Scowling at the sunny skies, Nadiya found herself walking along the beach. While her family had gone to market the girl had be drafted by her younger siblings on a "treasure hunt". So as she walked a basket, woven with dyed strands of teal and yellow, was balanced on her hip. Every so often the Matori would pause to stare at the sands and then bend to pick up either a unique looking seashell or a pretty stone that had been washed ashore. Grimacing, the girl currently had spotted something shining in the shallow waters and had placed her hand in a knot of slimy seaweed.

Uck.

Shaking her head Nadiya set down her basket on the sands so that she could get a better grip, "Gotcha." Pulling the girl let out a small yelp as she fell back onto the wet sands, "Great." Shaking her head Nadiya just ended up laughing before turning on her side. "My basket?" Her prize in hand, a lovely little shell, had distracted her from the fact that her basket had decided to surf along the tide.

"Oh no you don't!" Lips pursed in determination Nadiya splashed through the waters towards the floating escapee. Thankfully her collection kept it from easily being tossed away and despite becoming drenched in water the girl managed to grab the handle once more. The triplets owe me for this one. Sighing she brushed a string of wet hair away from her face before turning back towards the shore line. Time to continue her hunt.

Yitzah was not known for her patience, but if she wanted to eat in Matori, she had to fish, and that required patience. It was incredibly annoying how many food – and other - merchants would not deal with her because of her species, but the bright side was that it meant that she also didn't have to try to barter on her own; another skill she didn't have.

So, fishing. She was trying. She had scrounged herself a fishing spear, and had waded out into the water, but all she had found was seaweed. Horrible, gross, slimy seaweed.

”Augh!” she protested, stomping in hungry frustration... right onto a sharp shell. ”Ow, ow ow ow!” she exclaimed, hopping back towards the shallows.

She was trying, and it wasn't working.

She threw her spear down in frustration, noticing the Matori belatedly as it thunked into the sand. She glared at them as if it was somehow their fault. ”What?!” she snapped at them irritably.

Twisting the water out of her hair, Nadiya was startled by sudden noise. Perhaps it was because of the way her drenched hair had blocked her vision, but the girl truly hadn't realized another was nearby. As the alkidike's frustration appeared more like a funny dance to her, Nadiya had to stop her laughter. Not that it took much to stop her smile as the spear thunked into the sand, "Having troubles?"

Securing her basket in the crook of her left arm, Nadiya moved forward. Though she felt far from being safe around violent types the girl still kept her gaze forward. An Alkidike? She had briefly seen a few of them before, but this was her first time being so close to one. No need to be afraid, Nadiya. Still her heart was jumping in her chest as she glanced towards the other girl, "If you're trying to fish then jumping about will just scare them away."

She smiled lightly in an attempt of friendliness, "Not that I'm too keen on fishing myself, but from what I've seen the best way seems to be using big nets if you want smaller fish." Flushing she shook her head quickly, "I mean! Obviously if you want to use a spear feel free. I'm sure it just takes a bit of patience and practice."

Yitzah stared at her intently, trying to figure out if she was being insulted in any way before deciding that the matori had unreadable faces. That said, they would probably know how to fish. "I didn't think I'd catch any by jumpin'" grumbled Yitzah acidly, "Just can't catch them at all." She crossed her arms, wiggling her stinging toes as they smarted (and probably bled into the sand).

The Alkidike trudged out onto the beach, looking around for the pile of stuff that represented her things. "Fine. Where d I get a net." she growled, glowering.

"Fish are tricky like that." Nadiya replied lightly, undaunted by the grumpy attitude. She was obviously just wanting fish and the girl could only imagine how frustrating the concept was to a newcomer, "I do know that someone once mentioned that you have to hide your shadow from the waters if you want to try and spear the fish. They'll run if they see shadows and no offense, but your shadow will be far bigger than the shadow of someone like me. Not that it's a bad thing being taller than someone like me." She was super petite while the Alkidikes towered over most earthlings.

"There's a market nearby..." Nadiya paused thoughtfully, "Though you could just buy or trade for some fish from the boats there as well." Her family often traded their materials for local food since that was easier than worrying about currency, "I mean, I have a small net I use for gathering shells, but I'm not certain how well it could work." Yet the more she pondered, the more things came into play... She also had a some crumbs left from her breakfast that she had eaten on the shore...when she had been a child playing with her brother they would use crumbs to attract some of the smaller fish.

"Want to make a trap with me?" Nadiya's gaze lit up at the idea, "We can trick the fish into a net for you and all we have to do is pull the net once they swim in. It's something you can learn to do until you master fishing with a spear."

Yitzah looked down at her shadow, frowning with helpless anger at it's long, antenna-ed expanse. b*****d... she grumbled at it. So, it was it's fault. Partially it's fault, anyway. Yitzah couldn't help that, though - she wanted to be tall and strong, didn't she?

The market was sounding better and better, but she'd need things to trade, and she'd have to trade with people. She didn't know enough about the Matorians to determine if she wanted to deal with them, but if she wanted a fish meal, she'd just have to swallow her pride, grunt out some words, and maybe...

"A... trap?" Or that. She perked up. She could do a trap. Traps were very hunter-ly things to do. "Yah. That. Lets do that." So far, Matorians weren't so bad. Or this one wasn't, but to Yitzah, one was plenty.

"It'll take a lot of patience." Warned Nadiya with a light grin, "But let's see how well this works out for us." Taking her net the girl waded out into the waters - until she was almost shoulder deep. Finding some loose rocks with her feet the girl managed to move them, "I think this might be a good spot." She motioned towards the much taller alkidike, "We can wedge the net here between these rocks and I can put some crumbs there...we just have to wait on this rock.." She pointed to one that jutted out from the waters, "And when we think it's time we can pull the rope that I'll attach to it and hope that it scooped up some fish. Nothing big, but something is better than nothing - right?"

Nevermind - patience didn't sound like her at all. But, this was happening, so Yitzah decided she was going to try to reign herself in and see what happened. After all, hunters were patient. Maybe this girl would show her how.

"Yeah. Better than nothing. Are you sure it'll work?" she asked. It seemed to her that the fish could just swim away out of the net. Would crumbs keep them in?

She forced her impatience back - she was going to trust that this fishgirl knew her fish. In the meantime, though... "What's yer name, anyway? You have one, right?" They'd been slaves or something, so who knew? Yitzah sure didn't, and she wasn't going to assume.
