There was something... rebellious, she felt, to what she was doing. Sneaking through the night, hood up, with a small pack of food, while trying to not be seen. She wondered why she took such precautions, ones she never took before. It was not like Andronicus to be subtle; none of her existence as a knight had been rather subtle. Yet...

She felt almost like it was necessary.

Perhaps it was because she went to Caedus for information that had nothing to do with the Castle or Rift. Perhaps it was because the other knights she generally hung around with had been so vehemently opposed to the whole idea. They were not in the search of something like she was, though. They'd simply seen too much go wrong too many times. Caution was important, but too much caution was just as bad and leaping straight in.

Andronicus no longer wanted to play it cautious.

The squire weaved through the trees until she came to where Caedus rested. She sweeped the area, pulling her hood off her head, and plopping down in front of the old man.

"I brought ya some food. Not exactly sure what your tastes are, but the grocery store has some really good premade sandwiches," said the squire, pulling out one of the celephane wrapped sandwiches and offering it to him.

She paused, unsure how to breach the subject on her mind.

Caedus originally seemed to have been resting; he was not swaddled in the blankets he had been brought, or any of the gifts the others had presented to help comfort him or aid him in passing the time. His arms were wrapped around himself, underneath the layers of fabric. Particularly in the shadows, his eyes seemed to glow. It was not a reflection of the moonlight; it was a light that they seemed to emit themselves. It was eerie, but not particularly menacing.

"At this point, I would eat anything," he said, though could not help but draw closer to himself when the Knight sat so near to him. He seemed to have some reservations about his personal space, but he had neither tried to move away nor requested she put distance between the two of them.

…Besides; the allure of food was too hard to resist.

"…Have you come for a reason other than just to feed me?"

Andronicus chuckled sheepishly, glancing at him briefly. It was a hard topic to bring up, but one she was infinitely curious about.

"It's... hard to explain, to ask I guess. I was wondering, since you've lived so long... My Knight's Code promotes balance, wanting us to restore balance to the cosmos, yet I find myself at an impasse. How do I do that while being what we consider order? Or what we think is chaos? So I ask..." she said, pulling at her fingers. She could not be 'order' anymore, and she would not go to 'chaos'.

"Do you know of any other cosmic powers in the universe? Any beyond what we consider to be 'light' and the Negaverse?" Andronicus looked at him again, green eyes hesitant. She wanted to spill everything to him and just vent her whole position on everything at once. Caedus, even if wary of his real motives, was the best possible person to talk to in this case. He was, actually, a neutral party here, having been trapped in the Rift for so long.

"I know it's possible. You exist, Zirconia existed, the Dark Mirror exist. I just... don't know where to go from here, to be honest," admitted the squire after a moment, scratching at her chin.

Slowly, Caedus' head tilted, as if he were trying to decipher what she had said. He was silent for a very long moment after she spoke, and then slowly admitted, "I do not understand parts of what you are asking. I will do my best to answer, but I know nothing of Zirconia, or the Dark Mirror. What I know of 'the Code' I learned from brief lessons and conversations. If my information is dated, please forgive me."

He cleared his throat and repeated her questions in his head before he attempted to tackle them.

"Chaos is…the desire to consume, or destroy, or intentionally harm others. I do not believe there is a true balance that would promote Chaos of any sort. We live in a chaotic universe, but some chaos is natural. There is conflict. And then there is resolution. Strife makes us stronger. It opens our minds. But the will of Chaos is not the same as natural chaos. Chaos, like Metallia, would disrupt all order, to its favor. Because it thrives in the disruption. Chaos, like Metallia, will never see a resolution. That is why I hate the Negaverse. They are not natural. They are manipulated, and warped, by a being that would remove all good that comes of chaos."

He was quiet, trying to determine how best to word any further answers. "I know of many Cosmic Powers. But I know not what exists and what is lost. I will need to inquire once I am home. But I know that here, and now, you have a being that is not 'balance'. I cannot tell you what to do or how to act. But you must do what feels right. The Negaverse does not feel right. It does not give room to grow, or improve, and it cares only for devouring as many souls as it can. For the balance to be restored, good must come of it. What cannot be redeemed must be destroyed."

Andronicus winced a little, realizing after the fact didn't know who Zirconia or the Dark Mirror were. It was such common place, she forgot not everyone knew of their existence, especially someone who was apparently under ground for a millienia or more. Silence followed his words, as the squire worried her lip in thought.

So many confusing points of view, so many paths open to her that over whelmed her. It was like staring down river that divided into a thousand different streams, and being unsure of which to follow.

"I... will admit I don't know what's 'right' or 'wrong' anymore..." she sighed, munching on her thoughts to tame them for a moment.

"Many of 'order', those who jumped to conclusions and antagonism when you arrived... are almost as bad as the Negaverse. Many kill without thought, many endanger countless lives, and others still see the only option to be the total destruction of the Negaverse." She distinctly made the distinction between the Negaverse and 'Chaos' in her head now. Chaos would always exist; the theory of entropy dictated it, and corruption spread even in the purest of hearts. The Negaverse was something entirely separate within that corruption.

"We are not as cut and dry, as I suspect it was in your era. We come not from other planets, but here. Perhaps that's part of the problem. The Negaverse has tainted us, even if our starseeds are... 'pure'." Even if it was not this life, she'd been of the Negaverse once. Maybe the reason the White Moon stood so fragmented was that everyone was born of Earth, and not their homeworlds. If Earth had been tainted for so long... then it was possible the Negaverse was not just a state of magical being, but a virus in their blood. In their DNA.

She looked up at him, setting her half eaten sandwich in her lap.

"... Do you think we can succeed in bringing down Metallia?" asked the squire of Uranus after a moment.

"There is no answer to 'right' and 'wrong'. It is subjective. But things were not 'cut and dry' in 'my era' either. But we are not closed minded. It feels like some of you think there is only one right answer." He was quiet for a moment, and then continued, "There is not. There are an infinite number of choices. I have known planets that think murder and torture are justified. I have known planets that have never known violence. They are too different to compare. But they all had their own version of peace. I do not know what has become of them…But I do know that, for whatever reason it has happened, you have more Senshi and Knights gathered here in this one place, than I have ever seen. I think if anyone could succeed in bringing down Metallia, it is you."

Once again, Andronicus fell silent, thinking. Caedus was right, she decided. It wasn't just one answer. It was a thousand possibilities, and futures, dependent on a million choices and circumstances. In the greater scope of things, she almost felt silly for being so... well, lost. And she was lost, wasn't she? She tried to walk a line she had no idea if it could exist, or if it was possible. She became hesitant, grasping at straws for any lick of possibility.

When it was not the only way.

"Sorry to sort of drop that on you... most of my fellow knights, don't really... approve of unknown things," said the squire, finally, after many long minutes of quiet chewing. "I admit, it's nice to have someone outside the greater Destiny City powered climate to talk to, even if a tad unkind to just start a conversation like that." Andronicus offered him a smile, filing away her problems for another day and place. There were more important things on the horizon to deal with; walking into the Castle, for instance. Enough serious talk, though.

"If I might ask, what was your homeworld like? I just have a twelve story tower on a desert planet, and have only been to a couple other knight wonders. And... I apparently was kind of a loner in the life I get snippets of sometimes?" Well, it was mostly true. She guessed. At least, every time she had memories of Alexia, it was in the tower and no where else.

"You do not need to apologize," he said absentmindedly, but the truth was just that he was quick to move onto the topic of his homeworld. It was a place he missed, and a place he was eager to speak of.

"My homeworld is…very different from Earth. We are very busy. Like your city," he said, nodding towards it. "Only, our air is much cleaner, and we are not so noisy. The lights make me think of home. We have many buildings. We are always researching and improving. We thrive on knowledge." He could not help but ask a bit of her own world: "Are they still functioning? Your Wonders, and planets. Or are they all…lost?"

"The Andronicus is not... completely whole. My first visit, I spent four hours just cleaning sand out of the foyer to gain access to the stairwell. Many floors of my tower are not accessible; either the floors themselves are caved in, or the landings have fallen into the floors below." It painted a bleak picture of her tower, which otherwise was whole, if lonely. She could not speak for the rest of Uranus, or any other planet really.

"That aside, the main office and the archives are intact. Can't read any of the books, but they're still there. As for other worlds... I suppose it depends on the person in charge of it. I get the impression that most senshi worlds, and knight wonders that are cities, are ghost towns." Andronicus shrugged a little, unable to give much else in the way of information. It was all dead, really. A dead world, with a dead princess, filled with sand. She did not mind it; the solitude it offered her was much appreciated.

Yet with all this talk of lively homeworlds, and returning to them, she couldn't help but wonder if they'd just gotten the short end of the stick out here.

"Do all of your people have slitted pupils like you?"

Caedus had seemed enamored with Andronicus as she spoke of her wonder. He had leaned forward a bit and tilted his head as he listened. He was imagining the location as best he could, and his eyes almost even looked sad when she mentioned how desolate and worn her Wonder was.

And then she asked about his eyes, and he seemed completely taken aback. It wasn't that the question was insulting, only that he had not at all been expecting it.

"Yes," he said after a second. "That is natural of them. Why do you ask? Does it bother you?"

Andronicus shook her head. "Not at all! It actually really makes me curious if other worlds had different features than what we consider 'human' here on Earth. I know so very little of what the past was like, besides the memories of my past life, I guess, that any sort of information about it makes me super curious." The squire smiled at him, munching on what was left of her sandwich.

She'd originally come with purpose, but it seemed almost easier to just talk to him as a human being, then grill him. He'd not told her anything she didn't, deep down, already know. It was just as good to talk with him.

"Is there anything you'd like to know about this world?" she asked him, head tilting with curiosity.

"Everything," Caedus confessed, almost sounding eager. He glanced to the city in the distance—to all the lights, and noise. "When I was last here, things were so incredibly different. Some of what I see over there…almost makes me think of home. I remember when Earth seemed so small, so…fragile. It was this blooming planet, full of so many opportunities. In a thousand years, I admit, I had imagined more. But I suppose it is difficult to grow when you have the Negaverse breathing down your neck. I want to know, though…"

He slowly managed to pull his gaze from the city back to her. "What about this planet do you hold most dear? What, of all the things on this Earth, makes it so great to you? …What makes this planet special?"

"I mean, we don't have flying cars or teleportation, but I think the ability to talk with someone on the other side of the world, or access the world's knowledge at your fingertips is kind of cool," she said cheerfully. It was better than having to take a ship for six months, just to get a letter to someone, so they could send it back on another six month ship. Or only have the knowledge of your country, or what your country told you was 'truth'.

Andronicus sighed a little to herself, thinking. It was a few moments before she spoke. Technology, music, art... it was all superficial. The Internet was wonderful, video games and books a world away from this one. But everything wasn't the heart of it. It was something Uranus' sands lacked, that Olympus echoed of, that the cosmos no longer held.

Its people.

"The people. We're flawed, we're imperfect, we do really stupid s**t at a government and societal level, but we are. We exist. We thrive. We may be tainted by chaos, but you said it yourself; chaos is always present. We make the most of what we have, and we fight for it. We protect our own, whatever 'our own' defines." She looked out at the city beyond the trees.

"We are blinded by the light, and tempted by the darkness, and we survive. We create, we destroy. We are children of Earth, and we will protect it from each other, outsiders, and ourselves. Because we are worth saving. We're worth existing." Green eyes flicked back to his slitted ones, determination and defiance in her eyes. Andronicus, at her core, fought for the city and it's people. That was her purpose, even if a quest for power overshadowed it at the moment. She had no desire for a world long since lost, for an Academy covered in crystal, or or the expanse of the universe.

"I wouldn't trade this world, this city, for anything. Not my wonder, not the Academy, not Cosmos herself. I'll fight for it until I die, irregardless of who I have to fight to protect it. Senshi, knight, agent, cat; endanger the people of this city, and I will not let you go unpunished. Too often are the populous left in danger for the sake of this war, and I'm sick of it." Her jaw set and she look out at the trees again.

"Only so much one squire can do against an army of light and dark... but I will protect these people until the end of time, regardless of what power flows through my veins at the end of the day. Without them, Earth's just another dead planet." She fell silent, aware she'd just sort of ranted about it. Yet her statement held true; no matter which 'side' she ultimately fell on the war, the city and it's people would come first.

They would always come first. Without it's people, Earth was no better than Uranus or Mars or the cosmos. Empty and lost to time.

Caedus listened intently, nodding occasionally. When she finished, he took a few seconds to absorb it. Finally, he said, "You are very passionate. That is a good trait to have. I suspect you will go far with that attitude. And yet…"

He watched her still. "Something is holding you back? You came here. You seemed to have your doubts. But when I ask you what is important, you know without a doubt what you are fighting for. What does it matter, then, what is 'right' or 'wrong' to someone else? What matters is that you protect what is important to you. You are your own warrior, capable of fighting where your heart tells you to fight."

"... Fear..." said the squire, glancing down at the ground beneath them. It was silly to her, to have to admit she was fearful. She was a squire of Uranus, she should not have to be fearful. But she was. So she searched for power, for anything, that would keep them alive.

"In a future not yet come to pass, I gathered a collection of people who were like minded. Order, Chaos, it didn't matter as long as their conviction for protecting innocents was strong. But... as the Negaverse began to move into power... they were eaten up from the inside. My Sentinels were either killed or corrupted, until no one remained. I couldn't save them then... What if I can't save them now?" She pulled at her fingers, anxious and twitchy.

"So I search for power, because I'm not powerful enough. I don't want to let them down, not a second time. I have to be strong, because what can one Squire do against the combined armies of Order and Chaos? I endangered them because of the mixed associations, but it's not as thought we can don a mask and be safe." Andronicus rambled slightly, her anxiety getting the better of her. "We're far too noticeable as we are, even beneath a mask."

The squire fell silent, worrying her lip and her fingers, feeling terrible she had to admit weakness. She couldn't be weak, there were people who depended on her. Yet how could she lead them when she'd led them to ruin in the future? When it was a possibility of it all coming apart at the seams? She'd gone to Caedus to try to keep from being just another sheep, desiring power, and had been disappointed. Though... maybe it wasn't power she needed, at least not yet. Maybe.
