Cadmus was absolutely ecstatic.

Who knew the crystal given at that meeting would be so useful? Especially when he had confused it for a measly trinket!

Ever since his mother, Fiora, moved away with her new beau, the chibi senshi's father had kept a diligent eye on him; popping in all hours of the evening until bedtime to check on his son. Without his mother there, Rigel's parenting duties were doubled, and he took them seriously when not at a job. It made sneaking out of the house difficult—until the crystal was employed, of course.

Using all array of planning, Cadmus would, time and time again, get the crystal to hold on his father for a while until he was drowsy enough to slip off to an early sleep. Given that he would be knocked out completely for the night, the boy would power-up in his room and bound off to practice his rooftop jumping and attack. It didn't cross his mind that the one to thank was the cloaked figure from atop the hill. Gathering his courage one night, the boy decided to pass up his training for that day and seek him out.

Bounding up the hill with the notable speed of a chibi, he stopped just before the thicket of trees. Gliding red eyes along the canopies and underbrush, he cupped a hand over his mouth and cried, "Heeey, cloaked dude! Are you here? Anywhere around here—" Hesitating for a moment, he searched his thoughts for a name. "What was it... Aghh, oh! Caedus! Caedus, are you around here? I wanna talk, if it's all right!"

Though Caedus was already responding to 'cloaked dude'—if only because it was a voice, on his hill, calling out for someone. When the voice corrected 'Caedus', he relaxed a bit.

It was not some stranger; it was someone from the meeting. Probably.

Slowly, he worked his way around the grove of trees he'd settled into, and carefully meandered into plain sight. "I am here," he assured. "…It is all right to talk. Company is appreciated. What have you come to talk about?"

When Caedus appeared, Cadmus let his energy get the better of him. "Ah, there you are!" he cried a little too loudly. "I really thought you wouldn't be here, but you are! I mean, there's a lot of things I want to ask you but, um— Oh!"

Remembering his main reason for coming there, he patted around on his person until he found the crystal provided to him before. Holding it up between forefinger and thumb, he thrust it out in the direction of Caedus and gave him a cheeky smile.

"I wanted to thank you for this, it has really helped out me out!" He didn't go into detail as he found himself struck for a moment. "But I... I'm not sure how to thank you. I don't have anything on me... Oh wait, would a snack be okay? I can probably conjure up a few cranberries for you to munch on."

"I have nowhere else to go. I intend to remain here until I am able to go home."

He blinked when the crystal was thrust towards him, and glanced from it to Cadmus' face. "You do not need to thank me. You are doing me more help, I assume." While the offer of a snack was tempting, Caedus seemed more interested to know what this child could have done to find such a great use for the crystal.

"Many were worried that my crystals were bad. But it has…helped you? What have you used it for?"

Cadmus scrunched up his face as he tried to recall the exact wording from the meeting he attended. "They really made a lot of noise about these things, but it's a great, what did you call it, sleep aid," the chibi senshi said, turning the crystal about. "But it doesn't seem bad. At least, I don't think so. Y'see, my dad's a bit of a jerk. Or, well, he doesn't know I'm a senshi and has been checking on me a lot. I have a curfew and all, but to train, I can't break that curfew. So I've been using this little doodad to put him to sleep. When he's in bed, then I can do what I want. It's really helpful!"

"Did you... Or well, your people have trouble sleeping, Caedus?" He tilted his head like a bird. "I didn't get to hear a lot about your world and stuff at the meeting, since there was so many... Err... More important-y and powerful people around you. I'm kinda new to this senshi business, so I didn't get a chance to talk to you then. But must've been hard, I mean... Coming from your world to this one. Earth, that is. It must've been different."

Caedus nodded absentmindedly as he listened to Cadmus talk about his father, as if he understood. In truth, he still probably didn't, but he was sympathetic all the same.

"Sometimes we have issues sleeping. It is very hard to turn out brains off. Once, we used to sleep for many years at a time. Nothing could wake us. But this was dangerous, and left us open to attack. We had to modify ourselves. By regularly sleeping, we avoid that situation entirely. It was the safest route."

It did not seem like information that could harm him, so he did not mind sharing. Besides; this one was so…small, and young. It was difficult to see him as a threat.

"I miss my home. But I am not unused to traveling to other worlds. I am unused to being trapped on them, though," he sighed.

Cadmus hooted in surprise. "Years at a time, wow," he said. "But you... modified yourself? Like changed your habits or literally..." He gestured to his whole being, as if that would explain the last bit of his question. "Like, if you wanted to be taller or something, you could just will it?"

He slid the question aside for a moment when his features softened. Digging the tip of his shoe into the grass of the hill, he said, "I... I miss my home too. I'm not saying I'm not from Earth. I am; I'm as human as anyone else. I mean, I don't come from here—this city. I miss the place that I called home, not this weird place. Sometimes I feel I don't belong and it gets under my skin. It's sucks, is what I'm saying... Though my month away from home can't relate to being trapped in a weird place with weird people you don't know. Especially when they were yelling and accusing you of things not too long ago."

Cupping his hands together, Cadmus furrowed his brow as he focused, and suddenly, a numerous amount of cranberries burbled up; some even rolling off his hand and landing in the grass below. He let out a breath then; had he not held back, his attack would've shot upwards like a geyser and probably frightened the cloaked figure.

Offering them to Caedus, he said, "Take some if they want. They're just regular berries and won't do anything to you. They're a tad tart, though, if you've ever had a cranberry before. I'm sure there was a lot of good food where you're from, yea?"

Caedus seemed surprised with the cranberries. He did not attempt to eat one; instead he picked on up an examined it. "We have very good food from where I am from. But I have found that I have come to enjoy Earth food substantially."

But food was not important right now. He answered the other easy question quickly—"To change appearance, such as height? "That is not so easy—to change physical appearance? I suppose if absolutely desperate you could undergo modification. But it would probably be painful and taxing. I would not encourage it."

He sighed and lowered the berry.

"I am sorry to hear about your home. I know it is not easy to leave behind a place you love. I hope you get to visit it again soon. You seem very nice, though. I am sure you will make friends. Perhaps I was wrong about this planet. It is not so miserable a rock as I had come to believe. I forgive those who yelled. People are emotional when they do not understand. It is hard to not have answers. It is hard to be met with something that challenges your beliefs." He shrugged. "I hope you make new friends. How long have you been a Senshi?"

The chibi's mouth grew to a small O. Pain. No thanks and, as per the cloaked figure's instruction, he dropped the topic when it was inadvisable.

Pouring all of the berries into his left hand, he plucked a few up and popped them in his mouth. He glanced away from Caedus and chewed with distaste. Cranberries, despite being his sphere, were disgusting to the senshi. Still, he needed something to get his mind off the current topic at hand, even with Caedus's reassurance; he didn't like to talk about the move, it was as bitter as the berries he ate.

Cadmus shrugged his shoulders a bit. "To be honest, Earth isn't so great, but I don't it's miserable either," he said. "It's just how you see it. Of course, there are going to be people who yell, argue, and stuff, but there are small things that make it better." He looked to the horizon where stars speckled the sky. "Just have to take the chance to look sometimes." His smile blossomed then. "Thank you, though. I like to think I made a few already."

When Caedus asked him how long he was a senshi, he tilted his head to the side in thought. "About a month? Give or take, though I met one who has been a senshi for seven! That's, like, ten times longer than me!" He let out a small huff. "I never knew it'd be this hard, to be honest. B-but, a month doesn't compare to how long you've been around, aha..." A few more cranberries entered his mouth. "Can you remember what it was like to be a kid?"

"Mm," the man mused thoughtfully, glancing up to the sky. "If I thought hard enough, I might. But that was a long time ago. Childhood is not the same on your planet as it is mine, I do not think." He shrugged. "You are young. You should not be fighting. There is a time for fighting, but it should not be when you still have such youth. But."

He looked back to him. "You have to fight for what you believe in, and you must never forget that. I am not used to seeing senshi so young. You must take care of yourself. Always make the right choices. I know it will be difficult, but you are a senshi. You have a difficult task. Does it scare you?"

Right and wrong, right and wrong... The boy was still at a crossroads when it came to what was right and what was wrong. There was supposedly some unspoken expectations of him and that he was "the future"—as so eloquently put by Lenka when they had met—but Cadmus didn't even known there was so much pressure. And then the cloaked figure was saying he shouldn't have had to fight, being so young. It worried him. Should he have accepted his powers as a senshi at all?

But one thing was for certain, it did frighten him. Not returning Caedus's gaze, Cadmus nodded his head toward the ground. "Yea, it scares me a lot," he said. "My first meeting with one of those monster—youma, was it—tried to kill me. If that guardian cat, Hadaya, hadn't been passing by, I'd be six feet under right now." He sighed. "I still don't get why we're doing this. Sailor senshi... The good guys, I mean. Why do we have to fight?" He looked up to Caedus. "A sailor I met before mentioned something about a war, can we really win it? There was talk of a," he searched his thoughts to remember the advanced vocabulary, ""decisive jab" against the Negaverse. Can we really do it? That's not to say that we can't, but... There were so many people worried that the good side of things wouldn't be able to."

A shiver ran down Caedus' spine at the mention of youma; he seemed disgusted by them, at the very least. But the action was fleeting, and Cadmus had his full attention at all times.

"I have faith in you," he said, and sounded like he meant it. "In all of the Senshi and Knight. You were chosen for a reason. No matter your age. The reason is not always clear, but I know that you must have been chosen for a higher calling. But with the power you were given, you will always be met with obstacles. Power goes to good and bad. And if there is no good to oppose it, the bad will always win out. That is why you must fight. I am sorry. It is not so glorious a fate when you think of it."

A feeling of good sense of pride burbled forth from the chibi's bosom, causing him to smile sheepishly. No one had ever said they faith in him, just telling him to fight. Just fight and continue to fight to survive. Despite his dark appearance, Caedus wasn't that bad a guy. Not at all. Cadmus really felt ashamed of the way the others treated him before.

Turning his head over his shoulder, he studied the night once more before settling his eyes on the cloaked figure again. "It's getting kind of late, so I should... go," the boy said, though quite reluctantly. "It was nice chatting with you Caedus. Honestly. I mean, I'm sorry to say I thought you were a bit... scary... but I'm glad to know I was wrong. Really wrong." Before he waited for a reply from the other, he dumped the cranberries in his hands and suddenly made a face-heel turn. Jogging off into the distance, he waved a hand over his head and shouted, "I really don't wanna leave, but I have school tomorrow! See you later, Caedus!" before bounding off into the night.

Caedus watched as the boy left. When Cadmus raised a hand to wave to him, awkwardly and without much thought, Caedus reciprocated the action. A thousand years later and Earth still meant the same thing. He contemplated their words and poked at the cranberries the senshi had left behind.

There was no one there to see it, but he smiled.
