Wrathful Demigod

He'd found her early on, it had just been a matter of getting to her when she was on her own. There were so many people within the prison, guarding, interrogating, trying to talk since into the ones that had started all this. Carving out a little slice of privacy had been no easy task. It'd meant sticking around the place longer than he'd have liked to, spending more time powered, sneaking around, watching, waiting. So much waiting.

It had left time to think, and he'd realized that when he did finally get in to see her, she wasn't going to recognize him, because he wasn't the civilian she'd saved at the carnival.

That wasn't enough to stop him though.

Late one evening he got lucky, and it was with quiet, quick steps that he hurried down the hall towards the cell she was contained in. He let himself in, closed the door behind him, and approached the bed where she was bound slowly. "Amphitrite?"

There had been no broken bones this time - yet. There had been no fondling of her starseed - they could not. How unlucky for them. She was sure it would've been a good time. Leucite sure seemed to love it. It'd been hard at first, but she'd grown accustomed to it too, and the power that came from grasping someone else's life in her hand was -

Silk or not, her wrists and ankles were worn bruised and raw from her more frantic struggling when there was no one there to see. Some had tried to bring her water; when she could stand to, she rejected it, hating the fact that she needed to be fed like a damned animal strapped to a slab. Her lack of sleep, proper food, and constantly subdued state of panic were getting to her. It was not a beautiful struggle to stay afloat; she knew she probably looked like hell. But she refused to act the part. Not again.

Her head was pounding as she heard the door close, heard someone call her name. His voice was softer, unfamiliar - many of the voices here were. But he knew her name already. Very likely someone had told him. "In the flesh, darling." The corrupt did not look at him; she was staring at the ceiling again, her subtle assertion of some will where there was none. She swallowed hard, dryly. "What do you want?"

They had her strung up like an animal. Baikal stiffened when he got a good look at her and the bruises on her wrists, and gloved fingers tightened at his sides. With as evil as the white moon claimed the Negaverse to be, how could they possibly see this as anything other than what they so adamantly claimed to be fighting against? It was disgusting.

She'd feel a tug at her ankle while he worked at the knot that kept that leg bound, his weight sinking down to sit on the edge of the uncomfortable cot. "I want to help." You don't know me, but I know you. He couldn't say it, it was too much of a risk. Maybe he couldn't break her out of there, but he could at least untie her, make it more comfortable. She wasn't evil, she didn't deserve this.

Did anyone?

"Keep your voice down, okay?" The last thing they needed was to attract any unwanted attention. If he got caught helping the prisoners, they probably wouldn't let him back in the prison.

That got her attention. Amphitrite stared at him, her eyes widening at first... then narrowing, suspicion taking hold where surprise had swept her away. "Why?" What did he want from her? - was this some ploy for information? Good cop bad cop, the same tired old trick? Or something more? Did he intend to try and catch her off guard? Or...?

He'd told her to keep her voice down, though; and that she did, although it made it that much more puzzling. So was it a ploy, or not? What was his angle? Was he a sympathizer? Someone like Hvergelmir, who wanted to talk and not fight? - although he was certainly built like someone able to handle himself in a battle. Pity in a way if he were a pacifist, but she supposed it benefited the Negaverse if that were the case.

"Who are you?" That seemed the most logical second step, coupled by, naturally, "How do you know me?" Had her reputation proceeded her? - no reason he should want to help, if that was the case. Granted, white mooners were an odd and fickle bunch.

A quick glance up, then back down at the knot he was loosening. "Because this is wrong." There was so much more to it than that, but that was a safe answer, an ambiguous one. Believable. Or at least he hoped so.

The first knot came loose, and he was gentle as he unwrapped the silk from her bruised ankle. She'd been struggling, he could see it in the discoloration of her skin, and a mingling mix of admiration and anger welled up in the poor Page. He wanted to demand to know which of them had done it, but what would he have done with the information? He'd already picked a fight with one knight well over his power level, and that had gone just swimmingly, hadn't it. Baikal's lip twitched, half a sneer before he managed to catch it.

He was unwrapping her other ankle as more questions came, and his motions slowed to something thoughtfully careful. "Baikal, Page of Mercury." That, at least, he could answer truthfully.

The problem was, he really didn't want to lie to her, but he couldn't exactly tell her the truth, either. What were the chances she'd been involved in other kidnappings and had to help free helpless civilians? Too risky. She was smart, she'd figure it out.

Setting her foot gently on the cot, he shifted closer so he'd be able to reach her wrists, though paused, briefly, to brush a strand of hair from where it had stuck to her lips. "We've met," he said with a soft smile, reaching for her wrist. It was cryptic, but even that seemed like too much of an admission.

Wrong, he said. Interesting. Almost laughable. "Well, you're right about that much, " she said in her tantalizing purr of a voice, and her stance had not eased, as much a cornered animal as she'd ever been. There was no way to say for sure whether to trust or not. But - "Granted, I hardly expected much better from the Order, " and she let her gaze drop to a side, even as she kept all senses honed to the knight. "Considering." She didn't get into the history; he'd have to ask, and inevitably he would. They always asked.

"Baikal... " Interesting name. Potentially interesting knight, if his comments and the look on his face just then were anything to go by.

She rolled her ankles as he released them, stretching her legs, bending and moving them to and fro as he worked as her wrists. It was half-deliberate, because god knew people loved an attractive woman rolling about on the bed with her hair strewn around her in a halo, although really it was more practical. It'd been days now, and her usually honed muscles ached in response to the neglect. It'd been so much work building them up after the last time.

Then, there was a surprising ounce of tenderness in the way he brushed her hair from her face, and that was perhaps the first time she truly entertained the idea that this was no ruse. "Where?" she asked, furrowing her brows - and then playing into it, assuming he was as infatuated as he'd seemed just then - she flashed him a coy smile. "I feel like I'd remember a face as handsome as yours."

Another pause as pale eyes flicked down to her face, fingers stilling on the knots at her wrists. There was a thoughtful moment of silence, the subtle twitch of a brow in curiosity, and then he'd return to his efforts to free her. "Considering what?" Of course he asked.

"And I can't tell you that," and he sounded genuinely sorry about that. Even his expression shut down a little more, the page retreating back into careful neutrality. He had to watch himself around her, least he let something slip that he shouldn't. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, it was that he didn't know her, yet.

But he wanted to.

Quiet again, he managed to free one of her hands, and his fingers were light and gentle as they wrapped around those fine bones, discouraging any movement that was too hasty, that could potentially hurt muscles that had been prone too long. When he was sure she wasn't going to jerk he went back to work on the other one, leaning over her out of necessity.
