Some hunters on the island seemed thrilled with snow, others not so much. For those who enjoyed cold weather it was definitely a relief, though some found relief simply in the suspension of most duties that were hampered by the weather.

Bix found himself waking early as usual for his workout and jog only to find it impossible to get out of the buildings. He, like some other ambitious (or simply goofy) souls, resorted to leaping out of their dorm windows into the deep powder and flailing with summoned weapons until things were packed down enough to walk all over.

A few hunters with fire abilities seemed to be gathering to get charges and use their powers to clear the snow, others with less helpful abilities (such as one particular newbie- Chris) were stuck miserably shoveling in soggy shoes.

By early afternoon there was a slightly powdery, slightly icy path out of the main dorm building and a small collection of hunters had cleared a circular area in the main common for any sort of snow shenanigans!

Quote:
SNOWPOCALYPSE!! - The area cleared it's quite to ground level but they've packed the snow enough to walk over. Hunters with heat or fire powers are encouraged to lend a hand in clearing space.

Feel free to have snowball fights or introduce other snow games here (snowman building, forts, etc)! If you'd like to have me post game dynamics in this first post, let me know!!

There was snow for once, and Stormy couldn't be happier--which wasn't saying much, given her usual moods. While she was used to the tropical island temperature after years on the island, it didn't mean she preferred it over the cold. The delightful crunch under her boots lifted her mellow mood just enough to want to explore in the open rather than skitter the edges of Deus society.

And when she caught sight of Bix, she couldn't help but give into impulse. Taking cover by a dune of snow not yet plowed down, she gathered up enough in her hands to make a ball, peeked over, and threw it at him.

Attempted to throw it at him, at least.

- - -

"Ho-lee-s**t, this is awesome!!"

Dawson was among those gleeful with the arrival of snow, even if it was in heaping amounts that were unnatural. Georgia didn't exactly get a lot of snow to begin with, so he liked to think of it as a cash in on all the years of fun he had missed. And with Syntyche's heat, shoveling became a breeze. He even took to using the shield for the labor itself since that just made things easier, though his partner protested the cold entirely.

Every once in a while he did pause to try and help keep some of the less fortunate ones warm, and one soggy-shoed trainee soon gained the benefit of a miniature heater as the Moon, decked out in multiple layers that made him look like a fur and plaid moving ball, rolled over to let him warm up. "Ain' this a sight?" he asked with a grin as he held his shield out for the guy to warm his hands over. "Nice, huh?"

- - -

Jack was doing something quite un-Jack-like. He was having fun. By building a snowman no less.

Sure, it brought back memories of that strange time when he had turned into one, but that was in the past. Right now, he was catching up on more homey weather for this time of year, beanie and scarf and gloves and all.

- - -

And then there was Nora, who was amused if a little befuddled by the sudden onset of snow (and yet naturally as well dressed for it as if she had planned for such an event), but whom preferred to take a seat on a cold bench, nursing her tea as she watched the ongoing hunters outside with a curious eye.

Bix blinked as a snowball whizzed past his head.

"Oh hooo.." He turned to find Stormy and laughed, "Stormyyyy!!"

The pale young man (with a very pink nose) de-summoned his bow (he'd been drawing pictures in the snow with it) and dug in to make a snowball of his own to huck at the other hunter... and also miss.

Good job guys.

Chris had been subjected to Bix trying to be friendly but he hadn't been very keen on conversation. His room was in the basement and it was cold as ******** down there. Combined with the fact that all he had were hoodies (now layered into several) and flannels and he was only in sneakers, it made for a soggy and surly young trainee.

Dawson was a stranger but much more welcomed with the shoveling assistance and some sort of heat producing weapon.

"Huh?" Chris had been watching Bix and Stormy miss gloriously with their snowballs, "Oh yeah.. I like snow. Well.. in reasonable amounts I guess." His mouth quirked a bit but he did shift slightly towards the warmer seeming man. "I didn't realize tropical islands got blizzards... but I'm new."

The island being covered with snow was frankly rather foreboding to Lawrence when he heard about it from his over-eager son's text. The warming effect of tropical waters meant it probably should never have happened and hinted at something supernatural on the horizon which was defying conventional weather patterns. Under normal circumstances this would have been enough to unsettle him and he would have stayed where he was, the Russian base was - without a doubt - dangerous but seemed considerably more dormant than whatever was happening at the island at the moment. What did made him come back was not the snow - there was plenty of that right where he was - but the people, individuals he wanted to observe interacting with a stimulus they rarely encountered.

He wondered if Rodney could sculpt snow or if he would try given half a chance. And Melvin, well, Melvin was coping with a major loss and perhaps the snow would look like a gift from the long-passed Rin and the associated activities a chance to feel like a family.

Mikael was a well planned part of that family illusion and while the boy had outstayed his usefulness before the island, his stunted development served Lawrence now. Sending all the relevant individuals texts that he would be returning to the island and would be around headquarters in a bit (along with an additional text to Mikael reminding him to dress warmly) he used his pendant to head back to the island.

He had expected the transition from the underground to the brisk air on the island to be straightforward, convinced that surely his body must have built up some kind of tolerance to the chill being trapped in such a godforsaken refrigerator of a maze for so long, but it was revealed to be nothing more than a vain hope as outdoors once again proved to be as cold as he had always remembered it. It took about a minute for him to find himself shivering and bundling up a little more in his scarf, glad that he had brought his ushanka, gloves and everything else he'd packed for the bitter cold of Russia.

<> Butch said, grim and concerned in one of his unsettling lucid moments, <> And then with a snarl he was off again, somewhere else in his thoughts <>

Lawrence tuned the canine out as having nothing further of import to say, hugging himself and shifting from one cold foot to the other as he moved in the direction of HQ, picking his way through cleared paths from one building to the other, the snow in places piled far higher than he was tall. Half way to his destination, he noted the large cleared area outside the main dorms and decided this would be the simplest meeting place, sending another text to Rodney, Melvin and Mikael about where he would be.

He waited by the edge like a lost cat, steering clear of the snowball fight and trying to keep a low profile, his white attire almost like camouflage in the rolling landscape of snow.

Mikael didn't take long to arrive, in the highest spirits faced with his favourite weather and keen to spend some time with his dad just like they used to do. He hadn't even bothered to take the cleared paths, charging through drifts and kicking up clouds of powdery snow with his boots as he laughed and delighted in being the first to disturb the level whiteness. Compared to how he had been before Christmas he was dressed well (albeit cheaply) and had thick water resistant gloves on and a fluffy yellow parka topped off with a bobble hat of an equally sunny colour.

He picked Lawrence out even amongst the others, recognising the lean short figure even with the many layers he wore and giving him a delighted and over eager hug.

Lawrence was not expecting a hug out of nowhere and flinched, splaying the fingers of his hand as if to summon before relaxing.

"Mikael"
he said sternly in Swedish. "What did we say about the hugging?"

Mikael let go. "It is snowing!" he said, as if this excused all out of the ordinary behaviour.

"Snowed." he corrected. "And I did notice you know. Did you see Rodney or Melvin?"

Mikael tilted his head like a pup. "I don't know what they look like." he said with a pout.

"Of course you don't. Go erm. Go make an erm." he waved his hand vaguely. "..whatever it is you make."

"Castles!" Mikael cried eagerly and without further prompting ran to grab some snow and start building some walls. Lawrence watched him with the slightly concerned expression of someone not entirely sure about their own genetics and also someone who was very, very cold.

Rodney had already been out in the snow a little while, glad he'd kept his clothes from New York. At least, initially. Once he'd wrapped himself up in his scarf, his clothes had been transformed into...admittedly warm, but somewhat glittery, puffy, and pristine, with a ruff of (magical, he reminded himself, an illusion and not taken off any creature) fur. It made him smell vaguely like frost and pine, and gave the vague and embarrassing impression of a snow fairy. An old, wilderness sort of snow fairy. Or being part of the ground. Overall, in spite of the...embroidery, he blended into the snow so much that he was hard to pick out, especially from a distance.

This seemed mostly what the scarf was good at. Rodney was not sure why. It was...different from gray sneakers, jeans, and t-shirts, that was for sure.

He hadn't done anything yet, mostly pushed and moved the snow into piles. He had been happy to see Dawson, and some of the more senior hunters enjoying the weather.

His phone buzzed in his back pocket.

He took off his fur-lined, hidebound gloves and blew on his fingers before responding,

Great! I'm already outside! ^_^ Welcome back.

But it was Mik he ran into first, and he could hardly contain asking softly, "Oh! Do you know what you're making yet?"

It was rather amazing-looking to Horace; he'd never seen this much snow in his life! Oklahoma's snow melted on the ground, turning into shitty ice storms and the occasional inch or two. It was enough to make snow chickens or penguins. If he took off his glasses and squinted, he could imagine the entire ground was covered. But here, someone was even making a whole snowman. ******** sorcery, he thought.

Horace had immediately begun making snowballs and had a nice pile of them at his feet. There was something pleasing in shaping them perfectly. Maybe he packed a few too hard, but he shrugged. Despite his enthusiasm, he was cold, of course. Horace had gloves, but didn't really own a coat thicker than his sleeveless hunter coat. He had one his one, lonely shirt that still had sleeves and no hat. He would live, he reasoned; hunters were hardier.

Glancing around, he picked a target. With imprecise aim, he drew his hand back and sent a snowball flying at Mikael. It walloped the boy soundly in one shoulder. Horace sighed. He'd been aiming for his head. Picking up another, he looked around for his next victim.

This was his weather. This was his childhood. This was home, and to Melvin, he hadn't felt this happy in what felt in ages. It had taken him a while to even notice it had snowed, but as he sat in his room watching it snow, he slowly grew more and more excited as it just kept coming down.

He hadn't been that eager to get out of bed and get dressed in days, and he pulled out clothes he hadn't been able to use before. Giddy, he dressed in layers, put on his softest, thickest sweater, found his fur-lined clothes, and put on the thick jacket he had gotten ever since he went to help Rep in the Artic Base.

Lacing up his boots, he went out to enjoy the snow.

When Lawr texted him, it was just another sign that today was magical somehow. After spending the morning walking around and then helping shovel a bit, he had went inside to warm up and headed back out once Lawr called.

Dressed in a brown jacket, jeans, and boots, scarf tied about his neck, he had to spend some time trying to even find the other hunter. In white, he was hard to spot, but when he did, Melvin slid down the hill he was looking atop, moving to take off a glove as he went. Once behind, he slid one of his bare hands up under Jan's jacket, trying to find vulnerable skin.

Leon didnt expect this. He couldnt see it coming. Snow on the island. what was this, Canada? The entire time he spent cooped up in his dorm in disbelief, utter disbelief. He was getting stir crazy from the lack of sunlight and open outdoor space. everything was covered in white, sound dampening snow. The shore was frozen a few feet out. it was unrealistic.

Leon jumped out the window and into the poofy pile of cold. with an inner tube clenched in his hands above his head. "WHY IS THERE SNOW ON A TROPICAL ISLAND?!" the trainee spoke sternly, the confusion could not be held back any longer. If he was going to try and go sledding, he would like to at least know how this could have happened.

The science side of twitter could not explain this.

Considering Melody's room was in the dungeons, the moment she heard a path was cleared to the outside, she bounced. It was too uncomfortable to stay inside, so uncomfortable that the snow and ice above ground seemed like the logical choice by comparison, no question.

So there she was, dressed with a nice heavy fur lined hooded overcoat over her hunter jacket and a multi-layered dress with knit leggings and knee-high fur trim boots. Her scarf which she normally tied in a bow was loosened and wrapped around her shoulders with her hood up protecting her hair.

She was surprisingly comfortable and took a deep breath of the fresh mold-free air. It stung her lungs a little but was invigorating.

Oliver, hidden away as he was in the labs, didn't realize it was snowing until hearing second hand how much had come down. A part of him wanted to abandon his work as many hunters were doing and go see the phenomenon, after moving to the warm island from a chilly Canadian town he had often missed the cold weather.

But all work aside, he also had doubts. At first he thought people were playing a prank on him, and then when he finally believed the snow existed he stayed parked in front of his work. If it was some sort of FEAR-created mess and the entire island turned into yetis or something from getting this tropical snow all over themselves, there would have to be some sane people to help sort things out.

So instead of going to for a 'snow day', he decided to take advantage of the peace and quiet inside the labs. It was a good day for work.

No matter where Diana stayed it would be freezing, so instead of staying stuck in her room all day she decided to go for the better option and run around outside instead. Her warm winter clothes had all been left in Canada after the events leading up to her hunter status, so her new coat would just have to do for now.

"So, so cold," she grumbled, stomping out into the snow. At least there was a decent walking path for the moment.

Arorangi had been passing by the Life Labs on his way outside, saw a familiar head of scraggly auburn hair, backtracked, and redirected himself into the room. He was dressed in clothing that was probably not weather appropriate: a long-sleeved shirt with neon blue and orange flowers sprinkled merrily across, and a pair of sweatpants, along with a scarf flipped around his neck.

"LITTLE BIRD!" he boomed, crossing around to where Oliver sat. "Let us go out and play!"

And without a single word, Arorangi reached down, scooped up his friend, tossed him over his shoulder, and carted him out of the labs.

October wasn't even sure how he'd found himself outside and yet here he was.

He'd been trying to get back to his room, tripped, and promptly fell into a snow drift before staggering out, looking somewhat like a drowned cat and shivering madly before running into, not another snowdrift, but another person.

"Ack - "
