☢║Prologue
❝ No one knows how it happened. No one knows who was the cause. All anyone can confirm is that in the time span of three hours, the world was changed forever. A single instance all around the world brought forth the near extinction of humanity. On July Ninth [ 07/09 ], the time still fuzzy, bright lights invaded the sky. All around the world the sky above was lit up so bright it was blinding. No one could tell what was coming, for no one could see it. Some say it was bombs, others blame otherworldly forces, overall what impacted the entire world that day is still, 40 years gone, a mystery. In that instance the world was struck by explosive forces that wiped cities right off the map. Three hours ticked by and the earth was nothing but dusty craters. Plant-life dwindled with the number of human lives, now becoming a rare sight. Animals, wild and domestic, became beastly, praying on the few survivors in acts of instinct. Those lucky enough to survive the wreckage became faced with new and overwhelming challenges. The air was toxic from nuclear plants and other such chemical plants, the water becoming acid. Food and drinking water was a rare and sought after resource that lead people to kill each other. Those unable to find such resource forced to face the violent wildlife or making the ultimate choice, cannibalism. Humanity was on the brink, and people were losing it.
Or at least they were until one day. Months after the end times a man had come across an odd shaped chest. The chest itself was old looking and had very odd markings and engravings. When the man opened the box he found it empty, expect for a single note. Upon that note read: 'Ask for what you desire, and receive your gift, all at the cost of your sanity.' So the man asked. Without much else, there wasn't any harm. So the man asked for the world to be as it was. Nothing happened. The world was still a desert land of poison and death. However when he closed the box he noticed a figure standing behind it. It was a man clad in hex-tech clothing. The man offered information about the chest to the other, in order for his desire to come true. He explained, "The chest cannot undo what has been done. The world is out of it's reach. However ask for the power to change the world with your own hand and it shall grant you the strength you desire." So the man asked for strength. The sly man smiled tipping his hat then vanishing along with the chest. The now lone man stood in shock unsure what to make of the situation. So he left venturing into the wreckage of a once proud city. He had been promised the power to change things but nothing seemed different. Frustrated he punched a crumbled but still standing wall only to have his fist finish off what the onslaught had not. He had asked for power and he had gotten it. The man was as strong as ten elephants, his skin hard a steel. The man traveled the dead world collecting others and bringing promise to restore humanity, by displaying his strength. Thus a new world was born.
Soon after the grand city of Valkir was born, a city of steel. It had nothing like the times before but it was a stable home-base. People all around the world flocked to the city, some bringing with them their own new discovered powers. As the same chests the man had found popped up around the world. However, there came a price. For those who encountered the chests more then once or asked for power to great to control, they found themselves turning mad. Soon after they would become monstrous zombie-like creatures called Shaitans. And soon enough these Shaitans began to take over, ravaging the new world by storm. From then on the chests were known as "The Hangman's Chest, Pandora's Box" for those who dared to open them would be putting a rope around their necks. But even then it didn't stop people.
40 Years had passed since the end-times, and 38 since the birth of Valkir. Much had changed and much hadn't. The people had developed immunities to the reactive air where as food and water were cleansed. The world was working, but the threat of Shaitans still lingered. To compensate organizations known as Mercenaries popped up, looking for hire in order to exterminate the threats that hovered over the heads of the innocent. The new world is still a young one and the future it far from known.❞
