It'd been the same simple task. Report his quota, drop off the extra. Keep enough for himself to get out of a bind when things got bad. Prehnite found he would never tire of Char-no...Metalias halls. The ruins, the caves, the stalactites. The entirety of the Rift had always been fascinating to him. Despite the deadliness that encompassed nearly everything it touched down in the dark. There was always a beauty to it.

Prehnite knew better, truly, than to wander further than his rank would grant him safe passage. Not without a guide at least..maybe a Captain or General. He'd intended to do his job, and go home, like always; but the gloom called to him. He was tired, and sore, and the last month had been utter hell..

He just once, wanted to do, what he wanted to do, and damn the repercussions. So he strode out into the Rift...Ready to summon his trowel and communication crystal the moment something so much as twitched at him wrong. He wasn't above calling for help down here.

Something, not to far in the distance, caught his eye. A feint glow, the color different from any of the other crystals he'd seen smattered about the other structures. In fact there were quite a few of them..all neatly arranged..planted? Maybe if he just took a quick look...Prehnite didn't realize he was approaching a den.

The garden was not far from the Castle. Settled under a ceiling of sparkling crystals, the garden of crystal plants glowed softly against the dark stone of the alcove. It was an alcove instead of a cave, with a second 'room' off to the right side in which the garden's owner lived. A set of pillows and blankets were tucked into one corner, while parts of the floor and walls were covered in pads of paper, drawn on with what looked to be charcoal. How charcoal and paper, not to mention the blankets, got into the Rift, who knew, but there it was.

The youma stared up at the ceiling, drawing inconceivable constellations from the crystals. A goat ear flicked, moving pink hair over a horn, at the sound of someone approaching. The goataur youma tilted her head, attention brought from the 'stars' to the agent of Metallia standing at her doorway.

How curious...

"...You are far from home..." she said quietly, staring at him a little too long before blinking again.

Prehnite nearly leapt out of his own skin at the sound of the soft voice. A gasp catching in his throat as he stared back. Not wanting to so much as twitch, lest he anger her somehow...

Definitely..a her..definitely a youma. Not like any he'd ever seen before. This one was hardly the feral ugliness he was used to. She didn't seem to have any claws to rend with, or maw full of daggers. She even spoke real words! Prehnite was entranced, as much by her appearance as he was her striking glowing gaze, even if the way it lingered made him want to be cautious. After all, every rose had its thorns.

"I didn't mean to intrude, but I couldn't help but...admire..this.What is this?" Prehnite waved his hand vaguely at the, and now that he really looked at it; it did very much seem to be a garden. He'd never seen something like these before, not anywhere on the surface at least. Even if crystals grew throughout certain places, none of them looked, cultivated. They were nature made, these though..

Iolanthe's head tilted curiously, watching the human standing just outside her garden. He was curious about her garden, how interesting. The goatuar's head titled from side to side slowly, glowing green eyes flicking from him to the garden briefly. Ah, yes, her garden. Her carefully cultivated garden of crystal plants glowed softly. Many rest cycles it took to get to the grow, but grow they had. The rose quartz roses pulsed slightly, her head nodding in return.

Perhaps it would be worth to show someone...

Silently, she rose to her hooves, a fluid motion that seemed entirely impossible for someone with four legs. Iolanthe moved deliberately, the only sound echoing of the rock around them being her hair falling over the roses on her hips. She exited the cave and stood by the small garden.

"This is my garden... I have grown... rose quartz, perdiot, amethyst, even ruby into flowers... as the stars have dictated." She extended a hand, pointing loosely at each crystal gem with a clawed finger as she spoke. Each movement was deliberate and slow, as if Iolanthe wasn't sure how to act otherwise.

Staring on, awestruck as she stood to her full height. He couldn't begin to fathom how she managed to be so completely silent in her movements. Every step almost seemed planned; so measured and graceful.

"That is quite the feat." His mind burned with questions. About her, about the garden. The mere idea that anything was capable of growing down here; especially something so beautiful. He'd not thought it possible, given the darkness of the surroundings and the general lifeless vibe most places seemed to give off. Even in the castle proper. It was the primary reason he kept his visits short.

"It's beautiful, all of it. I want to know everything." Prehnite felt like the worlds biggest kid in a candy store. It was so hard not to touch, or stare, or take. They weren't true flowers, or were they? Could they be harvested, did they produce seeds? Was cross pollination an option? He would have loved to simply pluck one up and bring it to the surface with him. Test it until he had all of his answers; until he could grow them himself.

He knew absolutely nothing of crystals though..these seemed a might bit different from growing crystals earth style. This was not rock candy...

"I mean..I'm being horribly rude to you aren't I? I do have manners, I swear." He chuckled softly, not sure if it was better to stare at her garden or her. Which was more appropriate? Everything on her was as stunning and new as the garden itself.

"My name is Prehnite" Were those roses on her hips glowing, oh god phosphorescent flowers, or was it magic?! No, no, eyes up..higher up...

"I am known as Iolanthe, though the one who made me called me Briar Rose," replied the youma, turning her head to look at him briefly. He was a very odd human; most ignored her little corner of the Rift and cared little for her plants. It reminded her fleetingly of something, though she did not know what it was. A time before she grew crystal flowers, perhaps. A time when she walked among different stars.

"It is not something... others can do, unfortunately. Crystal manipulation is not... well known among the stronger youma. I do not know if they would grow elsewhere in the Rift, or on the surface..." she said slowly, looking back at her garden. His gaze was met with no reply; he was free to stare at just about any part of her, and Iolanthe would not bat an eye. The normal pulls of human emotion were lost on her, being as she was.

Iolanthe glanced up at the 'stars' in quiet contemplation. It was some moments before she spoke again.

"What would you like to know?" The stars simply told her to be cautious with her secrets. Perhaps he was worthy of them, as well.

Her name's seemed just as fitting, just as beautiful as the garden she was growing. It was a shame to hear that it wasn't a wide spread knowledge, though it explained the lack of their appearance throughout other parts of the rift, and generally traveled areas. There were crystals everywhere, but nothing like this.

The thought had him giddy, it was what he'd lived for in Sao Paulo, wandering out into the field and hoping to discover some fascinating new species of fauna that he could slap his name on. He'd thought he would be leaving all of that behind when he had to return to DC so suddenly..

"Well, I'd like to know if you classify the 'crystals' as being alive or not? You say its a manipulation; done with your magic, or some other way?" Maybe the seeds of the flowers were naturally occurring, or the crystals themselves were seeds and only needed some simple tending to become something else. Had she found a way to control their shapes with magic? Why plant them at all then..if she could have simply conformed any crystal into the shape of a plant.

He could have asked her questions for hours.

He briefly wondered why her gaze seemed to linger on the 'sky' so much, but let it go in favor of kneeling down near the garden in question, gently reaching out to touch-

The feel of them, he had to know. Something that appeared fragile and delicate, would they feel like true crystals, or something else.

He'd been a teenager, a fresh faced lieutenant of a thing, when he'd come stumbling in all those years ago. Had searched for a space away from everything else that had clouded and clamored around him. Cacophony of life and youth, new beginnings under increasingly dark and bloodied skies. He had found her - on the outskirts - down a path. A veritable cave of wonders, and of all the people he'd encountered - her - a thing that was hardly person at all, more other than strictly human.

Yet she had been the kindest of them. The best of them. Her and a garden of crystalline wonders. He's wanted to thank her for it, just as much as he'd wanted to take them home with him. Pluck the petals of glass, figure out how to grow them on the surface.

Had never managed it, he had however, managed something else. A present of sorts - long overdue - a little piece of himself he could give over to her in thanks of the brief moment of beauty in an otherwise dismal space.

Prehnite was hardly sure she'd be home - if she'd moved onto the rift entirely - if she made the spaces in-between her home still, with her comings and goings. Hardly mattered, he was a captain now, could plant it here - could go find her - could leave it as a surprise and let her wonder who'd left it. Come by occasionally to nurture it into fruition.

Those were his plans at least, as he carried the fragile little glass seed and cloth bundle..followed his aged map ripped from a sketchbook that had yellowed and thinned with time. Leather-bound thing that became twine-bound for having fallen apart with time and use...

Utilizing: Seed of Growth
- A small cloth bundle, tied off with a delicate ribbon. It appears ancient, but is still holding together despite its age.
This odd little bundle feels as if it is filled with dirt and seeds but it is impossible to identify anything inside. If the contents are buried in dirt, be it sand or soil, it will cause an immediate burst of growth in plant life in a three foot circle around it. Burying it in Destiny City will cause ordinary, seasonally-appropriate (if exceptionally hardy) plants to grow, but if it is planted in soil in any sort of magically-charged place—a Homeworld, Wonder, the Rift or Negaspace, or in Mirrorspace—the plants that grow will be strange and magical, reflecting the location in which it is planted. These may be flowers or crops, but not trees; the seeds are not enough to be sustainable in the long run, but with plot approval, a certain type of plant can continue to grow and be harvested in the area; players need only contact the Space Cauldron to outline what they are hoping for. The cloth bundle can be kept as a memento.
For this Approved Plot:
The seed was used to create: A Short and Stout Crystal Pomegranate Bush. The bush has bloomed from the seed Prehnite planted. The plant is located in the Negaverse, near a cave that is an offshoot down along a winding path that leads away from the castle proper. Due to its strange crystalline nature, it does not seem to whither or die with the passage of time. The plant produces 3x fruits a Month between September and January. The rest of the time it flowers. The fruits and flowers can be harvested - each player may only take one per month as a keepsake. Everything on the bush is inedible - entirely decorative in nature. The item's plucked from the plant make pretty gifts, and are completely crystalline all the way through. Better as a bludgeon or table ornament than anything else. If you bite it you will bleed!

Dredging this up just to put it to bed~ An ending an age in the making, with some pomegranate plots.

Time did not matter in the Rift. It's passage was marked only by the comings and goings of Metallia's agents. There'd been a large surge of them recently, making a whole ruckus and a whole mess of things. Yet her garden, her small corner had been untouched.

She was pleased of this.

'Today' as one who could only see stars made of crystal could only guess what today was even, the keeper of the crystal garden was resting among her plants. She sensed the approach of an agent and turned her head, long hair curling over her shoudler as she looked at his approach.

Prehnite.

He was stronger now, she could see, his uniform different. Iolanthe stood on silent hooves, bowing her head in greeting to the only officer she felt worthy of her time. The only one who took an interest in her machinations, her plants, her little crystal garden. Who talked instead of commanded.

"Prehnite. You have grown," she greeted him, a smile on her face framed by her horns and hair. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Timeless - the youma were timeless - A strange thing to realize. That she had remained the same. Ageless as the garden around her, ever beautiful, an evergreen eternal thing preserved in the Negaverse, a gift of the rift.

Like a flower under glass.

It was the easiest thing to smile for her, like he was still that stupid teenager who'd stumbled across something grand. Couldn't imagine his luck for finding her there to help as only she could.

"Iolanthe - and you - if you've grown it's only more beautiful." gave a polite little nod of a bow in turn. Emerald blaze for her, for all of lovely growth around her in a place so desolate.

"I hadn't expected to find you here still. I'm glad for it though. I've brought something of a gift? Ah, or maybe it's more of an apology for my absence?" had wanted to come sooner, but time was slippery like that.

"I ran across this - strangest little seed - I could only think of the one place to bring it that was worth having it grow? Considering the odd constitution of it." how it was like glass, but alive. It hadn't seemed right to plant it on earth anymore than he had, couldn't get it to take to any normal soil type. "I couldn't find anyone to explain it to me, so I thought of you, if anyone has a touch for such things?" easy enough to pull the bundle free of a pocket and offer it up to her reverently.

She could not love. She could not feel much affection. She could barely feel things that weren't bloodlust or hunger, but Prehnite was some what... special to her. The goatuar walked over to him, noting the blaze of fire in his emerald eyes and the small bundle in his hands. One large hand gently ran clawed fingers across his cheek before she focused on the buddle in his hands.

"There was no reason for me to go elsewhere," she said simply, taking the small bundle and inspecting it. A particular little seed, hm? Yes... yes this was rather particular. And old, and unlike anything she'd ever grown in her garden before. The roses adorning her hips and upper body seemed to quiver and open further in excitement, little rose vines wiggling.

"And you would plant it here, as a gift? You are kind to one who your masters would wield against the light," she said, all but gliding back to her garden plots and crouching down towards a patch of 'soil'. She dug out a hole for the small bundle of seeds and glanced back at Prehnite. "Yes, I think this will do well here."

Iolanthe placed the small bundle in the hole and covered it with the soil she'd removed.

Now to see what happened.

Stunning thing, and where others may have felt unease, Prehnite only found peace. Gentleness beneath her clawed touch, a breath held for the eager anticipation that swelled within his breast.

He should’ve known she’d be there, always - timeless creature of the rift that she was. “One kindness deserves another, and this will give me more reasons to visit.” he’d not lacked for them, only for the time it took to pursue them. He found that he longed for the carefree hours of before, when he’d had fewer responsibilities to tread over - more freedom for himself.

With this - the knowledge of something to tend to - the knowledge that she was there looking after something that could bear fruit? Propagate and populate her space…

He’d make the time for it.

“I’m hoping it will. All my past attempts at sprouting things from one plane or another - creating a hybridization of a thing? They’ve failed so far…” this place was different though.

Magical void that housed ancient things - that grew crystals like plants from the earth.

Prehnite tried not to hover as he watched her bury the seed - couldn’t help his curious watching, practically on his toes.

The little burble of diet beneath where the seeds touched soil, beneath where her fingers had planted them with care. As of her murmured assurance seemed to breathe life into the pods -

A snap of roots and sprouts that spiraled up, twisted into a bush of black crystal bark. Thick shellacking of branch-like rock that seemed to spring up around the core of the thing, glistened like obsidian and shale.

The plantlike structure jutted up from the earth and crawled towards the day-less sky. Purple streaks and dark dust laden soil that seemed to catch at the edges as it formed flowers and buds - grew like a plant, but shined like the rest of the treasures that spilled out through iolanthes cove.

Resembled pomegranate flowers - except for the coloring - except for how they unfurled rapidly - like living glass.

Prehnite wondered if it’d bear fruit…

It took some time, nurtured by the youma, but the crystal flowers gave way to crystal pomegranates that glinted in the light of the Rift. The bush was heavy with them, having grown far more of the fruits than ever would have seemed possible in other locations.

Iolanthe craddled one such fruit in her hands, before placing it among other various crystalline flowers near her sleeping space.

Then she was summoned by her lovely Captain and the garden was silent.
