Kaname had started classes a little late - they'd gotten a bad cold right as the new year started up and thus had to stay at home for a while. Thankfully their teachers had been okay with it, but they'd come back just in time to have to partner up with someone for a project in one of their classes - which... was not so great. The instructions said they needed to build a model, and that involved a lot of fetching things and trying to put them together. Moving around wasn't exactly something Kaname was particularly good at for extended periods of time...
Hopefully their partner would be alright with doing the moving. Speaking of said partner... they'd been told by the teacher that they would meet them in one of the empty science labs during a break period. Kaname had arrived early - a habit picked up from their parent - and had managed to settle themself into a chair and was just beginning to unpack their supplies... Ooh, the textbook was heavy.

With his little backpack decorated with eggs on it was stuffed with materials, and snacks, as well as the lotion and water he always kept handy, the little nixie hustled to go meet up at the designated spot. Swerving around bodies, with little 'excuse me!'s, he managed to skid to a halt when he got to the correctly numbered door. This was it! Pushing it open, he peeked in at first, making sure there wasn't a full class going on. But luckily for him, there was a single body there. Perking up, his bright smile lifted into place, stepping fully inside and shutting the door behind him.
"Hello~!" he chimed gleefully to the other freshling who he made his way over to, "Are you Kaname, my project partner? I'm Ebi!"

Ooh, boy... After a little bit of heaving, they'd managed to get the book up on the counter, and then opened to the correct page. They sat back in their seat, taking a bit of a breather. Hopefully-- oh! The door opened right as Kaname was beginning to wonder if their lab partner would show. They turned their head to look, and then squinted a little, crescent pupils having a bit of a hard time focusing immediately on the... nixie? At the door.
They nodded, delayed in reaction to the question. "Y--yes, I'm Kaname. It's n--nice to meet you, Ebi...!" They smiled a little, extending a hand once Ebi was close enough. They'd seen their parent do this when meeting new people, so, surely it was The Thing to do, right? "I'm so--rry I haven't been to c-class, I was really s-sick. But my zizi h-helped me keep up with the coursew-work...!" Kaname nodded a little more, hoping Ebi wouldn't feel like he was going to suffer because his partner hadn't been around yet.

With the confirmation, he gave a little 'phew!' of relief, and trotted right on over to his project partner. He'd found the right room! "Sorry if I'm late! I got a little lost finding my way." he admitted with a giggle. It was a big school, after all.... and directions weren't his strong suit.
Taking the extended hand, he simply clasped it with both of his own, giving it a warm squeeze in turn, "It's so nice to meet you too, Kaname! I can't wait to work together on this project!" he chimed, oozing nothing but positivity and excitement. Releasing the hand only to slip off his backpack, he placed it on the ground, and dug around inside for the necessary items for their get together. Placing a folder and pencils on the table, his tail perked ever so slightly with the apology that was given, his cheery expression instantly turning to one of great concern. Sick...? really sick...? "Oh no!" brows wrinkled, and mouth lowered, he instantly turned his full attention back to Kaname, retaking their hand in earnest, "are you ok?" golden eyes were flickering all over his partner for any exterior signs that may alert him to a current problem.
Shaking his head, he raised his tail to high alert, "it's ok, Kaname! do you need to rest? Oh!" letting one hand release, he dug back into his backpack and pulled out a small baggy of mixed fruits, "I have other snacks too, and juice boxes! will that help?" clearly Kaname's well being took first priority!

Kaname shook their head, "oh n-no, you're not late.. I c--came early." They smiled a little, returning the small squeeze with his own hand. He hadn't seen his parent do that before... maybe it was a greeting where Nixie came from? He didn't really know. They watched as Ebi got out all of his supplies... then blinked a bit at the question. Were they okay? They stared at their hand in Ebi's, then nodded. "O-oh, yes, I'm okay t-today. It's f-fine, really...! I might just um," They paused to cover their mouth for a small cough. "I might cough a little a-and get a bit tired... But that's it...!" They smiled a little.
Ebi was quite energetic. They watched as Ebi went back to digging into his backpack. A small twinge of guilt arose as Ebi brought out the mixed fruit, and then offered up one of his juice boxes. "O-oh, it's okay...! I'm f-f-fine, thank you for offering. Y-you're really nice...!" He smiled a little wider and nodded his head. "I-I'll let you kn-know if I need to take a re--rest... okay?"

The assurance made Ebi calm down from his mildly distressed and reactive state, lowering the little baggy, and his tail relaxing as well. Looking Kaname over again, he gave them a small smile and nod, "Ok, if you are sure, Kaname." tucking the snacks away into his pack again. Climbing onto a chair to settle in at the table, the Nixie opened up his folder and pulled out the page that held all the information of their project.
Entailed were the necessary requirements, and the basic goal of the overall group work. They were to make a poster and write out some notes for a presentation on what their likes and aspirations were. It was pretty open ended, leaving them plenty of wiggle room, and creativity!
Attention honed in on Kaname, naturally admiring their lovely wings, Ebi was back to his usual smile, "So Kaname, did you think up some things you want to include for the project? What kinda things do you like?" it was a fun exercise to learn how to both learn about others, and how to work with them!

They were thankful that Ebi took their word for it - reassuring people that they were okay was a lot of work, after all. "I'm s-sure, thank you." They nodded once more, then shifted a little in their seat to lean closer once Ebi had gotten all of his stuff set up. He couldn't help but sneak a glance at his fins-- they were just so interesting...! But their parent had said that staring was rude, so they quickly averted their gaze to Ebi's folder and handout.
"W--well, it's pretty open, huh..." They chewed at their lip, considering their options... They'd been troubled with this assignment since getting it - what did they want to be when they grew up? Or at least what did they like to do enough now that they wouldn't mind doing it when they got older?
"U-um, I was th--thinking, some pictures w-would be good. Maybe of p-people doing, um... whatever it is w-we decide to talk about?" He suggested in response to Ebi's first question, then fell silent for a moment to consider their next answer. "W--well, I like m-math. S-So maybe I'd like to do something with that... W-What about you, Ebi?"

With a decorative pencil in hand, Ebi lightly tapped it against his cheek a few times in thought, while looking over the scribbles for handwriting he had made along his paper. Peeking back to Kaname, he beamed, "It is! Can talk about what ever you want to!" for the little Nixie that was quite the treat. He liked SO many things, that it was exciting to put them all into one project.... or at least a few of them.
Perking up his posture with the ideas tossed out by his partner, a series of nods were to follow in agreement, "Oooh that's a good idea, yeah! We can put them all together like ..... like a uhm..." his brows furrowed, lips twisting a little as he tried to place them right for the proper word. "coll..... cold....ajj...?" he slowly attempted, eyeing Kaname as though they may be able to decipher the word he was trying to use. But after a moment of failure, he shook his head, and simply giggled, "a big mix up of pictures!" was his conclusion. If he couldn't say the word properly he could at least explain it or show it.
Math... oh! "How about some numbers? Oh and some math problems? we could use pretty paper, or paints.. oh and maybe sparkles and stickers!" his own eyes were sparkling at this point with all the ideas bubbling in his head. When it came his turn, a tickled little giggle peeped from him, "I really like food. I was thinking of getting a bunch of pictures of different foods. And music is really nice too, it always makes me want to dance." he seemingly chimed, swaying a little in his seat as though moving to some source of music.

Kaname nodded, listening to Ebi's idea. They couldn't help but smile a little when he fumbled with the word he was looking for - collage was a hard one! "A collage..? I like th--that! W-we could p-put everything together n-nicely." They nodded, then picked up their pencil to carefully write that down in their notebook. There. Now they'd remember to ask their zizi to help them get pictures before their presentation was due.
"Y-yeah..! I c-could print off s-some of the re--really important ones." They smiled again, wider than before. Ebi's cheerfulness sure was infectious! "O-oh, I li--like that a lot, Ebi. M-maybe you could shape music n-notes out of pictures of food?" They tilted their head, and hummed a little in thought... would that be too abstract...?
"O-oh..! Wha---what if, w-we described what th--the other wants to do and st--stuff? Instead of.. t-talking about o-ourselves...?"
