He didn't know how to feel about this.

A myriad of emotions was cascading through Thrymr like a tangled web of thorns and vines that twisted around his heart and sent it into overdrive. The arguments for this had been compelling, he knew that; the Negaverse had treated them all terribly, on many may levels that Thrymr knew all too well. He hadn't forgotten so easily the feel of the general's hand sinking into his chest before she'd ripped out his starseed, nor the way Mont Blonc's had been torn mercilessly away.

The sight of his still body still haunted Thrymr, deep within his nightmarish dreams, but he pushed past them, focused on the matter at hand.

In spite of this - in spite of all of the overwhelming evidence that the Negaverse was nothing more than a pack of cruel, vicious people, Thrymr could not help but wonder whether that fact remained true of all of them. And he could not see what stooping to their level - meaning kidnapping them - would accomplish in the long run, other than elevating a conflict that was already cresting at violent levels.

Still. He couldn't stand by and do nothing, even if he also could not manage to make his feet move in one direction or the other.

Thrymr's fingers trembled slightly as he pushed open the door to one of the cells. He did not know if what he was doing was wise, but it couldn't hurt to just - see them, talk to them. Maybe if he talked to them, he'd be able to understand their reasoning, their hatred off the White Moon.

A man was in the cell; the biggest man that Thrymr had ever seen, powerful and imposing in a way that made him stare with wide eyes and a slightly open mouth, a stunned expression on his face. He had not, in all actuality, expected to open the door and find...this, not when he, Thrymr, was not only much shorter than this agent, but also significantly smaller in build as well. Where Thrymr was slender, this man was muscular to an almost startling extent.

He was relatively sure, now, that the agent would be able to snap him in two in a heartbeat. Thrymr closed his mouth, swallowed hard, and tried to remember why he'd come here in the first place.

"What's your name?" He asked softly, ignoring the rapidfire beating of his heart.

Whether it was lucky or unlucky, 10mm x 60m non-dry climbing rope had been chosen for its impact resistance, its bit of give, and its thinness to wrap many times at points to lock his elbows and wrists, then again his thighs to his calves. It was smart going- even with powered strength and brute force, Titan couldn't get leverage or enough force to break them. He was effectively hobbled. Teleporting didn't work for some reason. He'd tried long and short length, focusing to pull the energy along each limb.

There were sounds of movement sometimes- more than just the count that had taken him hostage. Are there others?

His mind came time and again to that question. To who else may have been capture. To what Order could possibly want with any of them. He didn't know how long it had been. Then sound of the door and steps, a voice-

Such a small noble. Bright against the dim and drab of a cell decades abandoned. "Captain Titanlåvenite, little noble. "

"What is yours?"

He stood a reasonable distance away, though the man was bound enough that moving would be an obstacle. Still - Thrymr wasn't even assured by this, not really; he looked as though he could have broken free at any second, and without much effort.

The voice, however, that greeted him was startlingly quiet. Thrymr blinked in the darkness and felt his face flush a little as he took a singular step forward, peering at the agent with a mixture of curiosity and wariness, his hair falling about his face.

Captain Titanlåvenite. Thrymr committed this to memory, took a breath, and said, "That's...can I call you Captain Titan? It's a bit shorter, easier. My name is Thrymr," he said. "I'm the Senshi of Southern Lights - Aurora Australis, some might say."

He hesitated, absently tugging at the vibrant coat around his arms.

"Are you..." he asked tentatively. "Are you hurt?"

"Just 'Titan' is what people use. I have no rank here."

"I have never seems...no..seens the Southern Lights." Nerves. He breathed deep and tried to speak more slowly. This senshi wasn't Colin, who'd long ago grown used to how his accent turned his English awry with stress. "I have seen the Northern Lights often from Lofoten and Trøndelag. "

"I miss them." Maybe this senshi was nervous, too. He seemed out of sorts. What hurt I took is not so bad now. We heal fast. It was not a sword, or teeth. I am off schedule for meals and working out. "Not so much. But I am thirsty. There is no water, and I am bound. "

He didn't know what to expect of this captivity. His own kind had taken a very modern view of hostage, and leveraged hunger and thirst against their captives in interrogation. Of old, so far as Titan understood the stories he knew, captives and officers under ransom should be treated better. The jail cell itself wasn't encouraging that this was shared. Not that he had any inkling that the Negaverse understood or followed ransom etiquette- he didn't think that Laurelite would be paying anything, or signing treaties for any of their release.

He offered a tired, but genuine smile, "If it is allowed."

He gave a little nod, his heart in his throat. "The Southern Lights, they're...they're visible from the lower part of the world, in New Zealand and Australia and the like. I'm afraid I haven't seen them either," he added, a little wistfully. "I should like to, some day."

The I miss them made Thrymr's heart clench a little. He tried to remember the reason for this, the reason for them to be here in the first place, and yet his mind seemed not to want to comprehend it. His eyes traced the lines of the ropes, the to the small smile on the man's face.

"W - wait here," said Thrymr, and took a step back, sliding quietly from the cell. Within a few moments he had returned, a small, paper cup with water held in his hand, but he hesitated in front of Titan, wariness back in his gaze. He had so far managed to keep his distance, just to be safe, but to give water would be moving in close.

But it was an easy choice. Even prisoners deserved water, and Thrymr had no intention of being deliberately cruel.

He stepped closer and gently, carefully pressed the edge of the cup to Titan's lips, tilting it very slowly so as to not douse him with the contents of it.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly. "Truly. I didn't - I mean, I had no idea they were going to tie people up."

The sight of tiny hands around a tiny paper cup as a source of water was both blessed and ridiculous. Titan did not laugh or scoff, though. It was still a gift. A mouthful or two of water, what could it even be? Five ounces? It was something against the debt that the engine of his body worked up quickly. He seems soft in voice and manner. Maybe he is young. Maybe he would take message out from here?

As the hands were slowly lowering, the small lord keeping to an elegance of movement and plainly distracted some in thought, Titan leaned forward on the balance and hold of his stomach muscles to follow the drop of hands a moment and press his lips to some of the curled fingers. "Thank you."

Then the captain sat back again on his legs in the forced kneel. "There is not choice? Our hands are dangerous. We can pull starseeds. And we can call our weapons, wherever they are. It is a lot to risk on oath. There is not honor in this war."

"Will we be ransomed?" Even if it wasn't likely, there was some merit to asking. And he used 'we', hoping to hear if there were others.

Later, he might look back and reflect upon the fact that he probably should have brought a bigger cup. But Thrymr wasn't thinking of that, only of the fact that Titan was thirsty and he was trying to help with that, however small the attempt.

The soft press of lips against his fingers made his eyes widen, Thrymr staring down at the officer. Such a quiet, simple gesture of gratitude, and yet it was the farthest thing that Thrymr had thought possible from such a man. He didn't jerk away, merely closed his mouth and give a little nod.

"...you're welcome," he said softly, after the briefest of pauses. "If you need anymore, just tell me, okay?"

Thrymr took a step back, but this time did not go as far as before. He twisted the tiny cup absently in his hands and said, "That...that is true, I suppose, but I...still. Tying you up seems almost..."

Not excessive, perhaps, but Thrymr was not used to the violence, nor the cruelty of the war. And this giant man was not exhibiting any of the same fury as the one that had torn his starseed from his chest, nor the one who had taken Mont Blonc's, either. He wasn't sure if it was a trick or just his nature, but he couldn't help but compare his prior experiences with this...new...unexpected one.

Thrymr shook his head uncertainly. "I...don't know. They - the ones who started this, I mean, haven't said anything about what we're going to do with any of you."

He was silent for a moment and then asked cautiously, "Are you...angry?"

"I would like more when ever you would like to bring it. It is not a hurry."

It was a promising sign that he didn't back completely away to the door again, but stayed near. "No, I am not angry. We are enemies in a war. That can mean many terrible things are done."

"I knew it and accepted it when I kissed the hilt and blade of my Lord." When I served him. The melancholy thought followed immediately on the tail of the statement. "I am afraid. But that is different."

"Are you angry?"

He gave a little nod, glancing down at the little cup in his hands before back at Titan again, Thrymr's gaze flickering over him. For a man who was supposed to be terrible and cruel, he was...not. And it only made the confusion inside of Thrymr's head grow.

Enemies in a war.

Thrymr shifted, and then, after a moment's hesitation, crouched down so that it was easier to see his face. Considering his own height, it did not take much, and Thrymr rested his arms on his knees, his expression plainly troubled; he was not, as ever, the most secretive in his emotions.

"I'm sorry you're afraid," he said quietly, truthfully. "But no, I'm...I'm not angry."

A breath gusted out of him, Thrymr's head tilted slightly to the side, resting on his folded arms.

"I don't understand," he said softly. "I've had my starseed pulled, and I've seen it done to my dear friends, and yet...and yet...I don't know. The idea of keeping you and the others locked up seems...unnecessarily harsh, even with what's happened to me. I don't like it."

Thrymr contemplated the man in front of him.

"And you don't seem particularly...vicious," he said tentatively, as though saying it would make the opposite suddenly true.

"Sometimes harsh things are necessary in war. Sometimes. Not all times. It is better when the nobles can meet with words. " It was strange to hear of someone having it pulled who was still there, standing in front of him. It had been gotten back, intact, evidently. That was a rare and lucky thing compared to how many must be taken in any few months to provide for agents being expected to have one on them in the case of an emergency. "I don't want to be vicious. I thought...it was not the sword that chose how it was wielded. True enough, maybe...but the sword must be kept sharp and clean. That is a reflection of the hands of the noble that wield it. I have killed people, and fought in the name of the Throne of Earth...it has not been gentle. It was not good."

"I hope that is different than vicious? You seem very kind. Does it make a difference, to you, if an enemy is vicious or not when they have done what you think is wrong? "

He dreamed of it, sometimes. The feel of clawed fingers sinking into his chest and the feeling of burning, of drowning, and then nothing except blackness and pain when he awoke. Thrymr's fingers tightened a little on his knees.

"Words are better than blows, I think," said Thrymr softly. "Words can change things."

He tugged absently on a lock of his hair, twisting it around one of his fingers. The more that Titan spoke, the more that Thrymr was starting to believe that this - the appearance of quiet, brooding simplicity - was not just a facade. The lack of anger and cruelty was genuine, confusing.

His cheeks pinked a little, and Thrymr shifted slightly.

"No person should be cruel to another," he said quietly. "But...there is a difference, I believe, between being deliberately vicious simply because you can and being...violent when that is the nature of being in a war. And you...you sound like you fight for something."

There was a tentative, tiny smile on his face.

"You sound like you fight for something, not just to fight, not just to cause pain."

"Do you have a something that drives you to be in this? Words, or some other reason?" It was possible that was why someone gentle choose to spend time face to face with a prisoner. It could be that thing about two cops. Titan didn't think that was it? A rifling through any immediate memory and thought didn't produce anything that seemed like it should be worthwhile or wanted for against pain. Information was better sourced from information officers. The surprise that Titan himself wasn't vicious could have something to do with it. Youth frequently took to heart lessons that generalized all members of an enemy as monsters. He had had, in some degree, himself when Obsidian had first offered him some strands of information.

It had been confusing and alarming when Kairatos and Hvergelmir had come to Michigan Jack's just to see whether he was alright in the wake of Castor's declarations.

Maybe they don't really know about the divisions? But Realgar has joined them. And others? At least some of that has to be known. Maybe not who belongs to each with updated rosters.

"In the White Moon, or just...this?" Thrymr asked, gesturing around at the cell, with a slightly pained smile on his pale face. "I...I wasn't really...supportive of it, from the start. I heard of it, on accident I think, from just...word of mouth."

He lapsed into silence for a moment, his expression still troubled.

"I know I belong here, as a senshi, I mean. In the White Moon as a whole," said Thrymr quietly. "But this...this here...I thought that, maybe, if I talked to...to some of you, if I was able to...hear what you had to say, that I'd be able to understand why you lot do what you do."

He glanced a little shyly at Titan from under his lashes, Thrymr feeling a pang of anxiety and frustration at his own lack of strength, his own inability to figure out why everything he'd been taught about - and seen - from the Negaverse pointed in an opposite direction as this.

Thrymr tugged absently at his hair again, a subconscious gesture.

"Why do you fight for the Negaverse?" he asked, and then added hastily, a flush touching his cheeks, "If - if you don't mind me asking."

"It is good and difficult to know where we belong. I am glad you are certain." Titan looked down at 'you lot'. The words themselves felt unkind. It aligned with the fear that sad heavy in his empty stomach.

"I do not think any one officers is very like any other. I have not met any like me."

"My heart was moved for love of my lord. He spoke to me. He told me about the war, and the Throne of Earth. Then for its power and autonomy. There are many rights of lordship, vassalage, and consent that are broken. I used to read old stories- there are rules to magic in them. I don't understand so well. Belief and hard work could revive old promises. I hoped the Throne would come to power again with tending. I hoped it would protect the Earth again. A King or Queen makes their land flourish through themselves and their vassals." He kept his face down-turned. He knew none of that to have been accurate now, unlike when he had started. Obsidian would not have him. Metallia was a usurper and parasite. A grim, numb, oil like feeling crept along his limbs- it felt like it didn't matter.

He shifted so that he was no longer crouching with his knees to his chest, his legs starting to ache. Thrymr eased himself carefully down in front of Titan, sitting cross-legged now with his hands resting in his lap.

"You're right. And I think that could go for us, as well, come to think of it," said Thrymr softly. "None of us are the same, either."

He couldn't tell the tone of the man's voice, couldn't figure out what he was thinking. But Thrymr sat quietly and listened, toying with the rings on his fingers, but his gaze never left the captain's face, his expression intent. If nothing else - if all that he saw was this - Titan was, at the very least, in Thrymr's perspective, sincere. Sincere, passionate and loyal.

A gentle giant, thought Thrymr, biting his lip. The general was still looking down.

Thrymr sat there in silence for a moment and then cautiously, carefully inched forward. A hand reached out and Thrymr's fingers very gently, very lightly, touched the side of Titan's face, sliding down beneath his chin in an attempt at tilting his face up. He didn't know if it was too much, or if the gesture would be disliked, but Thrymr was nothing if not tactile the majority of the time.

"You want to protect Earth, is that it?" Thrymr asked softly, a distressed expression on his face. "Are you sad, Titan?"
