MUSICAL CHAIRS
The start of the new year has seen quite a few iconic people, most notably musicians, make their departure. From the loss of Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister around Christmas to David Bowie's passing just earlier this week, we at Mind Over Matter wanted to pay some small amount of tribute to those who have shaped the music industry and a generation.
This is an event for a semi-custom camper or student. There will be at least two winners, one in two separate categories, but there may be more depending on the turn out and inspiration generated from your entries. It's simple: you pick either one song or a particular music video (one or the other!) to submit. Please pick whatever you like and find most inspiring, it does not have to be a specific artist or genre. When you've chosen your piece, fill out the form below and post it here!
Regarding the semi-custom nature of this contest, you will not get to pick whether you win a camper or a student and the appearance of them will be entirely up to the artist. However, you will get to pick from any unique powers available rather than being restricted to a specific pool.

I've made one of the lines my personal anthem; "Crayons on walls, I'll color on them all, draw until I've broken every law." Yeah, yeah! Plus, it's upbeat and really singable. MOVING PICTURESMusic Video: Mystery Skulls - Ghost (the video is posted on a separate channel but it was commissioned by the artist and is considered official) What do you like about this video? What sticks with me the most about this video is how it manages to get in such a strong narrative and good characters within such a short amount of time, along with the general aesthetic (perfect amount of spooky for my tastes). I love all the characters to bits and pieces, the story is heart wrenching but due to possession and other factors no one is truly at fault for the tragedy, the visuals are gorgeous, and the supernatural stuff is just outright awesome. 👌👀 good s**t Desired Powers: Empathy, Astral Projection What kind of personality are you aiming for? Caring and affectionate, but also can get intensely into things and suffer from tunnel vision, and can be prone to rash decisions when stressed or upset. Also incredibly stubborn and can have trouble knowing when to quit and rest, though this does mean they work hard to be there for others. Is there anything you do NOT want? Unnatural skin color, any sort of cruel or nasty expression

STUCK IN THE SOUND Song: Shawn Colvin - Sunny Came HomeWhat do you like about this song?: To me, this song is about strength, redefining yourself, and recovery. The way the artist sings about coming home is a creative way to say "going back to start", meaning that Sunny is going back to the beginning and creating something new out of what remains there. The chorus continues this "back to start" idea with the lyrics- "I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire." - This is reminiscent of the legend of the Phoenix, which dies in a flurry of fire before coming back from the ashes of it's former self. However, despite the beauty of this line, my favorite lyric is- "Sunny came home with a vengeance"Vengeance itself can mean a lot of things, but in my opinion, this lyric indicates a "vengeful" act of change and breaking free. The things in Sunny's past no longer own her and her way of getting revenge on the past for what it did to her is to not allow it to own her again. She's cutting ties with everything that was and working toward rebirth. Desired Powers: Pyrokinesis, psychometry, scrying What kind of personality are you aiming for? Bruised and rough, but determined. This is someone who's clearly been through some rough patches, but they're not about to let that define them. I'm also getting an "aloof, but kind" vibe, but that doesn't have to reflect anything. Is there anything you do NOT want? Very negative expressions, unnatural skin colors, and pale skin

STUCK IN THE SOUNDSong: Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten What do you like about this song? Every time my sister or I are having a bad day we tell each other that the future is unwritten and I think this song talks all about that. It means that every day is a new opportunity to change you're life and be better then the day before. My favorite lyric is: "No one else can feel it for you, Only you can let it in. No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips" To me that really speaks to how everyone decides how they take things and how they react. It makes me think about responsibility and how you're ultimately responsible for what you do. Desired Powers: Umbrakinesis, Animal Telepathy, Hypnosis What kind of personality are you aiming for? What kind of personality are you aiming for? Kinda like Micheal Jackson's character in the Thriller video. A jokester that is very playful and kinda on the cocky flirty side. Very competitive and adventurous kind of person. Fearless. Is there anything you do NOT want? Please not a boy, not too girly and no bright skin colors (like pastel are fine, but not like neon)

MOVING PICTURES Music Video: Caravan Palace - Lone Digger (warning: violence and sexual themes) What do you like about this video? I'm a huge fan of animated music videos, as its one of few areas where they use the animated medium as something other than kid's media. Like many music videos, this one features many adult themes, and actually gets away with more by using animation to its advantage. The video itself complements the music very nicely. The design, from the colors and lighting to the characters and sets, mimics the colorful, high-energy jazzy vibe of the song without overpowering it. The music and the video don't fight for the spotlight, they work hand-in-hand with one another to give the audience the full feel of night life. Not to mention, the creators use every trick to tell a story in the short time given. Choosing anthropomorphic characters gives a nice edge of interest for the audience, and even becomes a creative tool to build drama between characters. The shot choices are incredibly concise, and every second has a purpose in the story. Overall, it's incredibly done, and super fun to watch (and listen)! Desired Powers: Animal Telepathy What kind of personality are you aiming for? Vain, short-tempered, headstrong, someone who doesn't look before they leap. A Type A personality, and doesn't really play well with others. Always willing to party. Is there anything you do NOT want? I'm open to anything! You have full artistic liberty.

MOVING PICTURES Music Video: Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc. What do you like about this video? In one way, I think it speaks about loss of innocence. Mostly, though, I think it's the lament of someone stuck in the world of a large music corporation. They're envious of those artists who are still free to create music on a whim, rather than being forced to fit an image. But, in the end, they know that they can't escape the corporation, and those independent artists have so much farther to fall. Desired Powers: Levitation, Photokinesis, Umbrakinesis What kind of personality are you aiming for? Desperately wants to be the 'cool kid' so others will like them, secretly just wants to be the kid who can do whatever they want, and not care about what others think of them. But they fear that no one will like them if they don't act cool. Is there anything you do NOT want? I trust you guys, have fun!

I saw this music video for the first time when I was still in college studying animation, back when I still thought that I could complete my degree and get into the field with no trouble. Before my depression and anxiety got really bad. Also like what isn't to love about sublimating animals into rainbow spaghetti right Desired Powers: Photokinesis or Electrokinesis, Empathy, Psychometry What kind of personality are you aiming for? uhhh I have no idea honestly?? I like playing LOUD personalities the best, give me some interesting features/expression and I'll work with it Is there anything you do NOT want? same as before, no average human skin tones and nothing too lacy or classically cute

MOVING PICTURES Music Video: Micheal Jackson - Thriller What do you like about this video? IT'S AWESOME! No but really I wish all music videos told a story like this one does. One of my favorite things about Micheal are his videos and the stories they tell. This one in particular is something my mother and I would put on when we had to clean the house and just watching the video or hearing the song always puts me in a good mood. The little girl, the urban to verdant utopia transition... It's so creative, uplifting, and accepting. I like the energy of the song more than the lyrics, it's bubbly slightly punk-pop vibes remind me of late 90s No-Doubt which gives me like, middle-school/high school flash backs in a semi warm and fuzzy way. Desired Powers: geokinesis, shield, precognition What kind of personality are you aiming for? Boyish, energetic/active, outgoing and friendly who just likes to run around outside and laze in the sun. Is there anything you do NOT want? Pink, long hair.

MOVING PICTURESMusic Video: Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - Look it Here What do you like about this video? I like that the video is not trying to be flashy, it doesn't need to tell a story or have intense visuals. It suits the blues-folk vibe of the song with just simple, clean black & white shots of the band playing their gig and people chilling out having fun. They just look like they are having fun doing what they do, a little drinking and a little dancing. Desired Powers: Astral projection, scrying, intuition What kind of personality are you aiming for? Chill as an ice cube, mellow and laid back take life as it comes. A lover not a fighter. Is there anything you do NOT want? Long hair, natural hair colors (other than white/gray)
