'Go date.' 'Get out there.' 'Find someone'.
Marlo was sick and tired of hearing how he needed to get back to dating. He didn't need to, (he did). He didn't want to, (Slightly untrue). And mostly he didn't have to do anything, (actually he was semi on order to via his therapist). Begrudgingly, he'd finally given in.
The problem was that he hardly knew anyone outside of his secretary, and the wives of his shareholders. Not exactly a great 'dating' pool. So like any good sibling, Elzo had set him up on a blind date. Told him not to worry about it, just to dress 'good'. Naturally that meant a suit for Marlo.
The woman, (he was assured they were a woman), would meet him at their suite, and he could splurge on her- she'd not care for the wealth flaunting so much as having a nice time. They'd be going to a club, dancing, dinner maybe. But mostly, she'd know this was to help him get into the scene again. He was handsome, and if he tried he'd have women on his arm. God knew when he wasn't interested they threw themselves at him often enough. Now he was actually going to be looking.
So it was that Marlo Xanis was going on a blind date. Set up by Elzo.
He could only imagine it ending up either terrible or mildly palatable.

It had come up in conversation, couched as a favor to Elzo. Take his brother out, show him a good time. He was too wrapped up in work, too unwilling to wade into the dating pool. He needed to make some new friends and get out of the house. Sid had pretended imposition, but truthfully, she'd perked up the moment 'brother' had been mentioned, along side the veiled double meaning to 'show him a good time'. There was just something about brothers that was just so appealing to consider... she probably would have asked if she could ask him out herself, if the idea had come to her first. Really though, even if it didn't go anywhere, Sid considered herself one of the best avenues to get into the party scene in DC. She could open a lot of doors for Marlo and introduce him to a lot of lovely women. But she could still hope. 8 PM sharp, Sid was in the lobby of the hotel, lounging on one of the posh couches with her legs crossed and her coat thrown over the arm. Her outfit was courtesy of Elzo, a little more upscale than her usual punk-rave attire, but when he'd mentioned his brother's tastes, she'd told him flat out she didn't have anything like that in her closet, nor the money to acquire it. Lucky for her, he didn't seem to mind throwing around a little money, since it was for a good cause and all. The black over-the-knee boots were from Elzo as well, stiletto-heeled with a zipper up the back that made her thin legs look far longer than they were. She felt made up, for once, a little less trashy chic. She'd even gone lighter on the make up, leaving her wild rainbow hair to be the only sign of who Sid truly was. If Marlo wasn't impressed, there was no getting through to him. Not by Sid anyway. The elevator dinged and magenta eyes lifted, called by the sound. The blonde inside with the sharp, tailored suit bore a heavy resemblance to a certain hotel owner and Sid knew her date had arrived, a smile curving up her pink lips.

Marlo stopped dead in his tracks as he walked out of the elevator. The hair gave her away and in the pit of his gut he knew it. He didn't want to think it but he knew it, Elzo had set him up. Set him up with one of his casuals. Sid was at the very least palatable given some of Elzo's tastes but after you heard the man and his partner going at it at roughly 4am? You sort of just accepted that come morning, you couldn't be mad at her so much at your sibling for not having manners. Sid also didn't try to sneak into his bed which was in itself, nice. Walking over he looked her up and down, picking apart her appearance before mentally chiding himself. No, he was to have an open mind. No judging. Besides, she was doing this just for his benefit, not her own. "I see Elzo helped pick your attire." A great start, he tried his best to smile though it looked pained and damn it he was an a** already. "He knew I found the designer appealing. It flatters your figure nicely." Still, the small shuffle of his feet, the way his fingers folded and fidgeting betrayed his nervousness. "I was told you had a few places in mind? I am unsure if my attire is ill suited- I simply did not wish to under dress for the evening."

He seemed surprised to see her and more than anything, she was startled by how reserved and... nervous he was, in comparison to his confident and sexy brother. She hadn't expected this, but Sid figured she probably should have. After all, there had to be a reason he needed help dating. When he finally approached, she let him stop in front of her before she uncrossed her legs with a smooth motion and rose up to her full diminutive height. Luckily, not so diminutive with three in heels, but still... she had to tilt her head back to meet his blue eyes with her pink ones, a smile curving across her lips that was unruffled by his assessment of her. Even if the compliments had a hint of backhandedness to them. "Its not my usual style, but I'm glad you like it." Sid replied as she offered her hand to him. Might as well start things off on the right foot, hmm? "Marlo Xanis, right? I'm a friend of your brother. My name's Sidney James, and its a pleasure to finally meet you." "And as for your 'attire'..." She hummed as she gave him a once over, her smile warming her eyes. "You look gorgeous, but if you want to dress down a little, I don't mind. I think you might get a little hot in that coat, but no one is going to say anything if you keep it on. I'm not taking you anywhere trashy, but its probably not quite as posh as you're used to. Which is probably why your brother set you up with me and not some pampered trust-fund baby."

"Please- do not bother being politically correct. We both know exactly what you are to my brother. The walls are not exactly thick you know." He waved it off, figuring that it was just easier to state the obvious. "I don't mind so much as- find it like him. He's the sort to hook up with decent women. Where as myself?" He had to ask for this... pity date. A blind pity date. He'd sunk to a new low in his life god help him. "But it is nice to meet you formally. Marlo Xanis, Elzo's younger and better looking sibling. More well behaved as well." He couldn't help but smirk. " Chou." Just because he was better behaved did not mean he was not terrible in his own right. Marlo had a repuatation of having small moments of wit, and in such a moment, the crack of a man not so tightly wound by worth and slipped out. Still, he was curt, and at the confirmation that he was over dressed he in utter silence walked to the front desk, removed his jacket and tie, undoing a few buttons of his shirt before nodding. "Better I hope? I planned for us to take a cab, figured a private car would be a bit much, and then no one would need to be waiting on us and if you storm out-" He expected her to. He knew he was often offensive. "Well gives you the opportunity to without second guessing. But- Where do you want to go from here?" He peered down at her, uncertainty in his eyes. "I would think dinner then dancing but, some women prefer dancing- dinner coming after."

Her eyes shone as he admitted to having heard them through the walls. Well, she was not going to apologize for it. It wasn't her fault the walls weren't better insulated to sound; she knew Elzo could afford it, if he really wanted it. Rather, she suspected he enjoyed inconveniencing his brother, to an extent. A sibling thing, from what she understood. Not that she'd had any siblings for friendly rivalry with, to really know. Her stage name, spoken by him, brought a smirk to her lips and she watched passively as he went to remove his coat and tie. Even without the tailored coat... he looked good. The dress shirt fit his lean frame, accented his wide shoulders down to his narrow hips. And, despite her normal attire suggesting different... she did like how a man's legs looked in a good pair of slacks. "I hope not that well behaved." She teased as she moved to meet him, the sway of her hips giving her a little bit of a swagger. "And don't worry... I promise I won't walk for anything short of complete assholery. Which I suspect you are far too much of a gentleman for." Stepping into his side, Sidney slid her hand into the crook of his elbow and held it lightly, pretending for a moment she was high bred enough for that to come naturally. "I think getting something to eat is a good idea, because I, for one, plan on having a drink or two. Do you like Greek, Marlo? I know an adorable little Gyro place. Its a bit of a hole in the wall, but I promise, its the best greek food you've ever had." The short woman said as she leaned into his arm, flashing him a warm, winning smile. "Then, after, I have our names on the list for Trinity. I had a gig there a couple of weeks ago and made friends with the owner." Trinity wasn't exactly the highest of upscale clubs, but the point was to break Marlo out of his comfort zone a little. Sticking to the same venues wouldn't do anything positive towards loosening him up. "What kind of music to you enjoy, by the by? Elzo didn't fill in all the blanks for me."

To Marlo, being formal only went so far, and Elzo had warned him that if he teased Sid or tried to play his usual disinterested act he would find himself not enjoying the outcome. Given Sid's reaction he realized just what Elzo had meant. Sid was not one for shame or apologies. No wonder the pair got along so well. But, still, she behaved herself in the lobby, not acting like she would be arm candy or giving away that this was anything short of an actual date. The last thing he needed was his employees going around and joking how he was having his sibling's lover taking him on what was still to the man a pity date- all so he could feel comfortable again in his own skin. "Oh, I am-" he sighed, -"I am unintentionally that way. Their is a certain art to being blunt while your insult is not recognized until later, or done in a fashion that the target of your ire can't act. You forget, I am a creature of business butterfly. My entire line of work often involves dealing with people who'd like nothing more than to gouge into my business." He put his hand on the one she's wrapped in his own, leading her out to the waiting cab, offering her to slide in first before getting in himself. The cab was clean, and less a cab and more a chauffeur service. "Tell the man about your Greek place. I am fond of any Mediterranean foods." He smiled a bit, something flickering in sincerity. "I enjoy food. Taste is perhaps the most delicate and universal of the arts." Still he looked at Sid, thinking to himself before he rolled up his sleeves, attempting to make himself more casual in appearance. "My musical tastes are varied. Elzo and I grew up on Classical and our mother playing Classic American rock. I am fond of moth soothing electric when it comes to dancing. But-" He looked out the window, momentarily wondering if it would be a good idea to admit it. "'House' I think is the term? Very ah, sensual music. I find it nice? As odd as it might sound."

Sid walked comfortably at Marlo's side, letting him lead her like a gentleman. He seemed set on staying in formal mode, but the night was still young. She wanted to see if he relaxed as they went, or if it would take a bit more for her to crack that tough shell. "Well, no worries. I'm not looking to nose in on your business. All I want is for you to have a good time... so no reason for you to feel like you need to insult me." She smirked as she slid into the car, shifting to give him room to join her. Maybe later though... name calling in bed can be fun.The care was very nice, a lot nicer than anything she ever traveled in. Leaning forward to brace her elbows on the back of the front seats, she gave the address to the driver with a smile and a giggle comment that made him smile back at her, the casual flirting putting him in a good mood. Sid was happy as she settled back into the seat and crossed one knee over the other, her skirt riding high on her thighs. A glance at Marlo showed him fidgeting with his sleeves, but she didn't comment on it, just leaned a little closer with her hand braced on the seat between them. "I grew up playing Classical piano, so I get you there. I like really all forms of electronic music these days. House is good stuff to listen to, soothing, as you said. I tend to prefer step, but I'm an energetic person. I've done some House style stuff for my gigs at the clubs, to mix things up. I could send you some tracks, if you like." It wouldn't be to hard to put some of her mp3s on a thumb drive for him... and totally worth it, if he enjoyed it. She kept him on light conversation as they drove, sharing some of the places she'd worked and some of the interesting for funny people she had met. Sid took care to solicit his opinions and prompt him for his own stories, listening attentively as he talked. He needed to know she was interested in him, and not just the outer him he presented... but the person behind the fancy suit he'd worn. He'd made good steps, taking off the suit. The rest would come. When they pulled up to the greek place, Sid waited for Marlo to climb out before she followed him, swinging both feet to the ground before she rose. Her hand went into his elbow again and she leaned into him as they headed for the front door. "So, Marlo, tell me... what is you want out of a woman? What is it you find the most attractive? What are you looking for in someone to date?" She asked, keeping her voice light. This would be important... but she had to listen deeper than just the surface words. Just because someone said they were attracted to a certain type or personality didn't mean their head was agreeing with their heart, or their... ahem. Other parts. The restaurant was on the small side, sort of hole in the wall, and just a little run down. But Sid greeted the man behind the counter by name and they got a two person table by the front window, laminated menus in their hands in short order.

He swallowed as she mentioned having a good time. With his brother, that meant getting drunk and hooking up with whomever was wanting. It caused him to eye her for a moment before he felt the signs of embarrassment rising up, a warm flush heating his face the longer he looked. If she had intentionally shown off her hips or not he didn't know, but he realized Elzo was a lot more clever with asking this particular friend of his than others. Leaning to talk to the driver had shown him a little more than he'd wanted to notice. Marlo looked and people watched. Unlucky for him, the only one to watch was slightly wanting him to look. "Mm." He make a non verbal sound to show he was listening as she spoke, asking that if she had music she send it- he rather liked employing artists and newer styles. It was why fashion was appealing to him. It changed all the time, evolved. Once they arrived at the club however, their casual conversation turned a lot more 'intimate' in Marlo's opinion. "I- that is." He coughed, trying badly to hide just how unexpected the conversation had gone. "Well, I want what all men want. An agreeable partner." He very quickly brought up the menu to hide the fact his face was coloring much to his growing frustration. "Oh, they have octopus." He was avoiding the questions entirely.

Thin fingers toyed with the menu, but Sid had been here often enough she didn't need it to know what she wanted. Rather, she watched Marlo and his flustered attempt at blocking her out with a small smile. She'd made him uncomfortable, to the point he was avoiding her questions, and she realized she'd stepped over a line. Not that it wasn't a line that needed stepping over, but it was obvious by now that Marlo was far less out going than his brother and pushing too hard could be detrimental to what she was trying to do. Choosing to outwardly ignore his fluster, Sid set her menu down and smoothed her fingers over it, one foot bouncing idly under the table. "I would settle for: what sort of person do you like to spend time with?" She said with a soft chuckle. "For me, I tend to enjoy being around people who... have drives, or Muses, maybe. People who have something they care strongly about. Be it music, or art, or fashion, or even just other people. There is something attractive in watching someone get intent on something, or light up when they share it. Apathetic, sullen people are such a downer... and they rarely seem to like me in return." Sid giggled as the waiter brought them glasses of water and rolls of silverware, offering him a smile before she ordered a cheap craft beer. Once their drink orders were placed, she turned back to her date for the night, her arms crossed loosely on the table top. "I think humor is common in the people I tend to like too. Either they're someone who can laugh at my stupid jokes, or they can make me laugh too. Or maybe just smile at my stupid jokes... that works too." She teased.

He looked up at her then back down at the menu. This went on for roughly three times before the menu was shut down and set aside. There was not going to be a way to hid himself and shield himself from this woman through the whole dinner and the sooner he 'got it out of the way' the better. Small talk was not his strong suit. Not with anyone really. "I don't-" He cut himself off from saying he didn't have a preference but oh he did. The fact he loathed his brother's company half the time was proof enough of his bias. "I like people who have control of themselves. Restraint- I suppose I speak broadly when I say so but creativity and ambition as well as the intellect to support it are also traits I find..." He tapped his chin to think of the proper term. "Amicable." He was pretty sure he had described someone that Sidney was not, but then, Marlo was quite sure they things were going to go this way no matter how the night progressed. "Though am I correct to assume that you're speaking of non work related 'drives' and more passions?" He realized he knew little of the woman his brother and told him to go out with. "And I apologize but what exactly is you do? My brother did not tell me, well, he told me nothing really."

The young woman propped her chin in her hand and a small smile pulled up the corner of her lips as Marlo shared the little he was comfortable with sharing, though even that had been hard won to an extent. The man across the table described what he found pleasing and she found it faintly amusing. On one hand, you could say he was describing a work-a-holic snob that he could never actually be truly satisfied with, but on the other... there was something to be said for people who knew when to reign themselves in, who could problem solve and push for what they wanted. So it wasn't actually that odd of a preference list. It just marked him as someone who was not so flamboyant as his brother, but he was perhaps not as much of a stick-in-the-mud as Elzo had made him out to be. Everyone had many sides to them and she didn't take it personally that his manner suggested he didn't apply those qualities to her. Elzo probably didn't even know much about her yet beyond her wild streak in bed, so there was no way Marlo would know more than that. Maybe she could surprise him. "Work could be a passion. I would say that I have a passion for mine." She said as she reached out to trade a fingertip along the cold side of her water glass, collecting moisture on her skin. "I'm a D.J., among many things. I've played gigs for many of the popular clubs around D.C. In my free time I compose and create new tracks to play. Sometimes I do recordings both in the studio and out to find interesting sounds to work into my music. I specialize in Trap Step, but I do a lot of Chill Step and Techno too. I'm working on making a name for myself since moving here from New York, and once I've made a sufficient splash onto the scene, I want to find myself a producer. I plan to ride my musical career out as far and as high as I can take it... tour and play all the best venues, make some bank off my songs." "In the mean time, I'll play the gigs that come my way and work on improving my music. And making friends both in the industry and out." Her head tilted as she offered him a wider smile this time. "Music is my life and my passion. I've always been attracted to its ability to touch people emotionally and even physically move them with the right beat. Its an endlessly fascinating thing, discovering what can pull a reaction from my audience and what that reaction is."

He was coming to the conclusion that Elzo had set him up to feel uncomfortable for the entirety of this date. Sidney wasn't rude or crass but she was so.. confident and assured of herself that it was slightly unsettling for him. He meanwhile was. His hand gripped his napkin a touch tighter as the thoughts rolled in his head. He was lesser in his confidence. Lesser. A thing he loathed to be. Just perhaps why Sidney was a good person to drag him out, Elzo knew he'd not back down from such a challenge and- "Disk jockey? Somehow I am both surprised but not. Artistic creativity in a venue that seeks it out. Trap step and Chill step are terms I am unfamiliar with however." He looked her over for a moment. "Sadly, I don't think I have any venues under my company that would suit. My clients tend to be middle aged to elderly men with young wives. Business accommodations for one, and fashion for the other. Music and dancing isn't their forte." As the waiter returned with their drinks, Marlo took a fairly large drink of his water, leaving wine untouched. He had a feeling he'd need it for later. "Am I correct to assume that is in part why you found Elzo so agreeable?" He smiled yet it was forced. "The fact he is a rather reactive individual?"

Talking about music and her work was a comfortable subject, though it didn't strike a terribly deep chord with the man across the table. He appreciated it, but it wasn't perhaps as much of a passion for him as it was for her. Not surprising, actually rather expected. "A lot of those young wives like to go dancing on the weekends for their 'girls' nights. They rent out VIP sections and drink high end liquor." She chuckled, fiddling with her drink glass. "Trap step is a sort of dance music that combines hip hop and dubstep, to really boil it down. In general, its bright and energetic, which is what I like. Chill step is, as the name suggests, a more laid back version." Sid watched him drink his water, his nerves written all over him. He simply refused to relax with her, but Sid was persistent. His question though, brought up some warning flags and she smoothed a smile across her face. It felt important to be... diplomatic about her relationship with Elzo. There was no need to rub it in Marlo's face or risk making him feel inferior to his brother, which be the opposite of helpful. He'd smell any lie she told though, so she had to be careful about sticking to the truth. "Elzo is a very straightforward sort of person. He goes for what he wants in a sort of... both feet first way." She said as she lifted and dropped a shoulder. "But that's easy to get drawn into. I don't have to work very hard to get a guy like that and we can have a lot of uninhibited fun together. But there is just as much fun in working for it too. Reservation can build tension, make the end result more worthwhile for the effort." It wasn't normally a philosophy that she lived, but it had been one her ex had enjoyed. Holding back, practicing denial... teasing her with what he wouldn't give her. The peak had been mind melting. Magenta eyes dropped to her drink and she lifted it to sip, her lips curling when she set it down again. "I find a lot of types of people agreeable, for different reasons." The waiter approached their table and Sidney offered the woman a smile as she listed off what she wanted without looking at the menu. Marlo was left to order for himself, no judgement passed on what he did or didn't order.

He hadn't expected such an articulated response from her and his smile twisted in a predatory way. She was smarter than she'd let on, and that was perhaps something he might find worth his attention. "Perhaps. I avoid those night and tend to ignore requests to be spoken with. Young wives can be.." He realized where the conversation had gone and he coughed awkwardly. "They can be rather forward. Not exactly good for business." The waiter couldn't have come sooner, and after Sid had ordered, Marlo placed his own. Steak, rare, no gravy and when he says rare he does indeed mean red in the center. And to bring out the entire bottle of wine. After the waiter left he finally took a sip of his wine. It was definitely going to be a long night. "My brother is straightforward to a fault. Just why I run the company, he plays poster boy." He looked at Sid again before diverting his gaze to the wine. "You're correct though. Control and effort to gain reward is very much it's own pleasure. Both in terms of work and in basic ********." Blue eyes lifted back to Sid, this time blank. "I appreciate your tactfulness, but it's not entirely needed. We both know you ******** my brother for the sake of ********. He'd not be with you if you had indicated any greater desire. My brother does not have limits anymore, but he also no longer has no capacity for them." His words hitched slightly that the mention of limits. "You like him because he has no reservations, no self restraint. Where as I am the opposite. Just why I find this entire meal sobering. You are a woman I would like to enjoy the company of." Another sip of his wine. "But I am not enjoyable." His expression was blank, a mask of apathy.
