A misleading name to say the least, Axe-Cutter Hill In fact is not a hill at all, but a small village built into the rock face of a gulch which split two forests. The name for the place was rather a joke among the dwarves, more referring to how the gulch looked as if a mighty axe had formed its steep angled sides. Quite the hunters, and strong enough warriors to have claimed the gulch for themselves, dwarves from 'the hill' as nicknamed are often more short-tempered than the average dwarf. Conversation is straight to the point, and if you misstep your bounds you might find yourself on the other end of a fuming warrior. Mead is abundant however, many suggest offering a man a drink before approaching without consent.

Lorena
Ain't every day you get to do something that's not a** numbingly dull. And it ain't one of those days. Or at least it seemed to be as the dwarven male was socked once and went sprawling to the floor. Men cheered and jeered around the tavern at their seats as Lorena had slugged another dwarf across his mustache strewn face. Flexing her hand and acting as if the blow hurt, a grin played on her face as she exclaimed to the man.
"How's that, eh, Reynok? Gettin' socked by a wee ol' woman are ya?" She sat down in a seat as the Dwarf called Reynok rubbed his jaw in minor disbelief before picking himself off the floor.
"Woman, you go around doing that and you may be mistaken for a man." He snarled but slinked back like a defeated dog. He sat down and tossed a leather pouch to the red haired dwarf to which she caught with her hand. The bet won and Lorena happy and an ego bruised, seemed this day was actually to a good start. Her fight with him almost didn't feel fair, but she was stronger for sure and that's all that counted.
Reynok spoke up, disturbing her thoughts as she counted the silver. "So just what are you doing, girl? Other than taking silver from me that is." he asked with geniune interest, if all he did was mutter. 'I hear you're setting out somewhere."
Lorena looked up and pondered for a moment, word always seems to spread. She sighed. "Yes. I need to start my training as a smith. At least so I can stop relying on others." Lorena said as she took a swig of the mead on the table, downing the last bit that remained in the tankard.
"Tab's on you by the way." Reynok piped up and Lorena barked a laugh.
"Fine, I guess it is. Another round?" Lorena answered and slapped down the last of her coppers, leaving her only now with the silvers and another round was served with the mead with her and the muttering dwarf.

As she enjoyed herself with drink and good talk, a hand clapped down on Lorena's shoulder. "Hallo," the owner of the hand greeted as he made no delay in stepping around from behind the dwarf and taking a seat in front of her.
It was Nocturne, the wandering bard and he was here as per arrangements he and Lorena had made the other day to travel together. He was dressed casually but also sturdily, light clothes that were durable, warm, and would not wear and tear quickly even when exposed to the rough conditions of the wilderness. Compared to the female dwarf he spoke to, he looked weak and prissy. His arms and legs had only a fraction of the meat and muscle that Lorena's did and the way he held himself just seemed so... meek compared to her robust form. Even his sharpened fangs, no doubt a threat in the mouth of anyone else, looked like they would break with a light punch to the appropriate cheek. All in all, he looked like he would be turned into juice by Lorena in a matter of seconds.
Leaning back casually in his chair, clearly in no hurry despite the quickly aging day, Nocturne simply asked, "Enjoying yourself?" in a manner that invited Lorena to take her time and talk as she wished. As relaxed as always, perhaps a bit too much, Nocturne didn't really mind leaving whenever Lorena felt like it. There was no rush, after all. Although, he was also mindful of the eagerness he knew Lorena had for learning her chosen trades, which was why he held off on ordering anything until after he had confirmed how soon his companion wanted to set out.

Lorena
Bogwash, that's what it was as she ingested whatever in the stone that been the mead. A clap on the shoulder had all but surprised her as she in turn slammed the tankard back onto the table and coughed a few seconds. The disgusting drink had gone down the wrong way in addition of her initial disgust but the last few were at least drinkable, but not in this sense. After the short coughing fit she fought the urge to chuck what remained at a random, innocent patron but here of all places would undoubtedly cause a stir.
She looked with an annoyance to the man that touched her but let it go gradually. " 'Knock knock' " she called him with a grin and acknowledged the greeting as she cleared her throat. The odd name was a play on what he went by with Nocturne, but her pronunciation of the actual name was always butchered and she fell to calling him Noc, or Knock knock. If a divine power had any way to create the exact opposite of her, she figured it'd be him; willowy and carried more of a dignity while she was short and just a rock. Coughing once more just so her throat is clear Lorena sat back as well, taking in the environment.
"You mean, am I enjoying this bogwash surrounded by dwarves that are, at any minute, waitin' to break each other's faces in, ya?" Lorena said to the man, looking at him with a mockingly serious gaze before she barked out a single laugh and grinned. "Of course I am. Tis home afterall. It wouldn't be a day if some haggard drunk gotten their bell rung a good one." Her accent trilled her r's with a clipped way of speaking.
So he was there afterall which mildly surprised the dwarf and hadn't expected him to come into the tavern. She took the final slug of the mead and slid the tankard halfway the table toward his side and gestured towards it with a nod. "Fancy a drink? Don't worry, tab's on muttery down by the corner there." She gestured with gesture with her head, pointing to the dwarf she was talking to earlier after slugging his jaw. "He can fancy a tab, or three." she grinned yet it hadn't occurred to her to up and leave yet.

There hadn't been a chance for a quick "Who's there?" in response to his nickname, but Nocturne didn't sweat the missed opportunity. He would have other chances, probably, and even if he didn't, meh. It was good to hear that Lorena was doing well.
Nocturne turned to look over to whoever Lorena was pointing at and smirked at the nickname given to the dwarf that was rubbing his jaw, a bruise already blooming on his face. True to his newly gained moniker, the dwarf was muttering to himself. His guess was that Lorena had been the artist to paint his face. He had no problem expressing these suspicions, "I don't suppose you were the one that gave him a good hook to the jaw? You've got a good arm. I've heard that there aren't many in this town that can give Reynok such a good bruising." Turning back around to face his conversation partner, he leaned back into his chair again, crossed one leg over the knee of the other, and settled his hands above the table where his fingers tapped on the wood. There was a thoughtful expression on his face for several seconds as he dug up memories about his previous experiences at this place. "Your offer is appreciated, but I think I'll have to pass on it," he concluded with an apologetic smile and a shake of his head, "While the brew of your home may be like water to you, Dwarven mead is quite strong for me, and I would like to be able to walk straight once we set out."

Lorena
"Comparin' me to fish now, are ya?" She joked on his decline but she understood -- dwarves were known for their tolerance. Alas she was finished with her drinks anyways. Lorena shifted in her seat and breathed out slowly at the mention of muttery. "Right, him an' his boasting gotten a kick to the stones of 'is ego bein' beatin' by a woman. Uncle did say my temper gets the best of me."
She leaned forward then at the table and rested her arms on the wood and sighed out loudly, one of the few reasons she needed to head on egged at her. Their arrangements was still fresh in her mind, both had business to attend to but she didn't know his reasons now that it occurred to her. Waving off a fresh serving of the mead, Lorena instead went without another round.
"So, tell me Noc'. What's your reason to set out? All I know is I'm setting out to further my craft, uncle sort of disowned me as an apprentice. Surprise, eh?" She chuckled dryly and then wrapped her knuckles on the table and leaned back in her chair just then. "Don't mind me, just thinking."

"Did it have something to do with your temper?" Nocturne teased with a raised eyebrow. He didn't pry with his joke, though, and promptly moved on to talk just a little about himself, "As for my reason, I don't really have any. I just like travelling. You know that this isn't my first time coming in and out of this town, and it won't be my last. This is just what I do."
Nocturne's hands moved off the table as he lifted them high above his head to stretch. Before Lorena could say or ask anything more, he suggested, "Well, shall we get going? Any longer, and we'll end up spending the night here, and that's not really travelling." He was already getting up with his last few words, but while he did stand, he did not leave. Instead, he gestured to Lorena with a bow and a sweep of his hands towards the exit, a clear indicator of "Lady's First."
Once she left, he would follow.

Lorena
Well said she thought. The dwarf spent the last few minutes now to recount her new coin, clinking the silver pieces in her hand with satisfaction and grinned. If this wouldn't start her off well, she didn't know what would. Lorena proceeded to take her leave along with Noc. "Aye, it is best we travel, yeh? Rather not spend a moment longer 'fore he discovers how large the tab is."
As they had proceeded to leave, he prompted her to leave first and to that she grinned. First human courtesy been considered for her, but all's well. "You lead the way, aye?" She said as she hoped he would know a decent path out of the town.
