Grandmother Spica's really was one of the nicest places to be. Not because her home was super fancy (and it was!) or that it always smelled so wonderfully (it really did!) or even that there was always something nice to eat in the kitchen (the tastiest!)- it was because it was her grandma's house and, therefore, better than most other places ever. (Though, abundance of sweet things to eat really did a lot to sway a foal's appreciation of a place.)
Sometimes it was hard holding back the tears from just loving a place so much.
However, a valiant attempt was made to keep the waterworks at bay, because she was playing a game! None of her siblings had come to visit today, but she had been in plenty of luck because a cousin had shown up, too! She liked him, so far, reminding her a lot of her siblings Lance and Dragon, making his habits nestle into the realm of comfortably familiar.
As of this moment, they were dead in the middle of a very intense game of hide and seek.
"Boo!" Damselfly threw open the linen closet door, but alas, there was no cousin to be found. The filly shook her hair back from her face, humming loudly.
"I'm gonna find you!" She sing-songed, little hooves clicking softly against the floor as she delved further down the hall.

The last thing Blade expected when he went to go visit his Grandmother Spica was to run into one of his cousins. His parents had been sending their new kids one at a time to their Grandmother so she could meet them and get to know them one on one without a tiny herd vying for attention. He'd seen her before in passing, a quick "these are your cousins" introduction, but now he knew this was Damselfly. Spica had ducked out to run an errand and let the pair of them to play till she returned. Hide and Seek was brought up and now Blade was stealthily hidden on one of their lower shelves of the pantry, listening to his cousin pop open doors looking for him. He was feeling pretty smug, she'd never find him here!

Yep, Damselfly wasn't very good at this game at all! But that didn't matter, winning wasn't what it was about. It was the suspense, the mystery, the trotting around her grandmother's pretty pretty bedroom three times before determining that no, Blade Waltz wasn't hiding in there, either. It was an adventure! But... a safe one. Not like the kind she went on with Royal. This adventure had lace doilies and nice-smelling candles. It was going to take her a little while before she worked her way back to the kitchen (having checked it not nearly thoroughly enough earlier.)
Little hooves clicked against the floor as she flittered about, wings flapping in excitement each time she was about to check somewhere- a dead give away both when she was seeking, and when she was hiding, unable to stop the little appendages from thumping against her hiding spot when the seeker drew near.
When she finally did open the cupboard with Blade in it, her pre-planned triumphant 'ah-ha!' quickly became a shriek of fright. The filly fell straight back onto her back, utterly surprised that she actually found him. Though the surprised noise faded into giggles just as fast, head craning around to look at her cousin.
"Found you!" She crowed triumphantly.

The surprise was mutual. While Blade wasn't surprised he'd been found, her shriek scared him witless. He jumped, though squeezed into a small space, his jump was more of a bump and rattle as his head and shoulder slammed into the shelf over him. There was dull thud over his head as whatever had been resting on the shelf over him toppled over. The colt didn't think much of it. "Yeah.." he rubbed his head a little. "Now it's my t.." He stopped. Something like a dark, thick, brown torrent was heading for his giggling cousin. "H..hey! Damsel watch out!" Luafien In my brain, Blade has accidentally knocked over a big ole jug of super thick maple molasses because that was all I could brain without resorting to some sorta glue.

"Wuh?" The little filly had just enough time to lift her head- and then spastically roll to the side before the goop and the whole jar came tumbling down from the shelving. The warning had been just enough time for the little filly to avoid getting hit right on the noggin with the falling jar- but not enough time to get completely out of harm's way.
For a moment the filly lay there in shock, eyes pressed shut against the definite crash that happened just beside her. However, when one owlish gray eye finally peeked open, all worries about getting into trouble or cleaning up a big mess dropped right out the back of her mind. The spilling jar had landed smack on top of trailing locks of blonde, white, and cyan, the hair now covered in a thick layer of sweet-smelling molasses and peppered through with glass shards from the broken jar.
Damselfly was too startled to even start crying. Which was really saying something.

"Are you ok??" The scene had been too surreal and the colt had been shocked into place as the jar landed and shattered on the floor with the loudest sound Blade had ever heard in his short life. After a moment, stunned, he barreled out of the pantry and grabbed Damself's hoof, dragging her away from the puddle of glass and molasses. "You're not hurt right?" He looked her over quickly, checking for any tell tale bright spots of red on her white fur. He heaved a sigh of relief as it seemed she had escaped unharmed. Sitting next to her, he made a face, seeing all the gunk that was in her mane. "Yech." he said. Tactful. "It's all over your hair. Oh man..oh man it looks really gross too." Comforting too.

Slowly, in a daze, the filly tried to sit up. Blade Waltz had been able to drag her across the floor, molasses-covered hair dragging out a snail trail across the tile, but the sticky mess didn't seem to enjoy being lifted up off of the floor. The longest ends were thickly coated, the filly huffing as she finally was able to sit up. She twisted her body oddly, trying to keep the dirty hair from touching any other part of her, gray eyes slowly widening.
... and going glossy.
The waterworks were inevitable. It startled with a wibble of the lower lip and spread, soft sniffles and welling tears falling in fat drops down her cheeks. Her hair was so gross and there was glass in it. They obviously couldn't touch it, which left a crying filly on the floor of their grandmother's kitchen, wailing her tiny, scared heart out, because of her hair and the mess they made and they were going to be in so much trouble.

Blade shrunk away from Damselfly a little, cringing. He wasn't good with crying. He had three sisters, one who of which who could turn on water works to get her way in a moment's notice and crying always triggered a flight instinct in him. But he couldn't just leave his cousin on the floor in a puddle of tears, glass, and molasses. "Uhm..hey.." he pawed in her direction, flustered. "Hey don't cry!" Please oh please stop crying. "We can clean everything up, I'm sure of it!" He had no idea. "Hey..hey..let's try and get the glass out of your mane first." He grabbed a kitchen towel and wrapped up her hair into it so she wouldn't trail any more mess through the house. "Come on, let's go to the bathroom and get in the shower." He helped walk her, trying to keep the hair and mess contained.

It was a good thing that Blade Waltz had some idea of what to do, opposed to Damselfly's entire lack of ability at the moment, because she would have just sat there crying until their grandmother returned from her errands. It was a comfort to have someone to tell her what they should do, and better yet, a distraction to the predicament. The tears stymied slightly as the filly tried to focus on getting up and wrapping her hair out of the way.
"Are you sure?" Every step was taken gingerly, one hoof nervously jumping back up to make sure her hair wasn't dripping onto the floor as they made their way to the bathroom. Tears still flowed, but silently aside the occasional sniffle or hiccup. "W-we made a mess."

"Messes can be cleaned up." he wasn't sure the two of them could clean it properly, but priority was on getting his cousin cleaned up first. "Come on then.." he shoved back the shower curtine once they reached the bathroom. Moving to the side of make room for her to climb in, he glanced over their grandmothers hair products. "These should get you clean!" Surely they would, they looked expensive. He got the water started warming.

Bathing times were normally quite the spectacle at any phony family, considering the amount of children phonies tended to have all at once. This, however, was an entirely different circus to the usual, no hollering and complaining about who used up the hot water. Just one shaky-legged filly slowly stepping into the tub and one colt trying to make the best of it.
It took a moment of angling herself, but Damselfly managed to get herself in a position to only get her mane under the water flow from the faucet. The first attempt to get a comb into the wet locks would only lead it to becoming stuck, practically glued to the molasses.
"Bladie, it's too sticky." Possibly the stickiest thing in the world, ever, of all time. And there went the waterworks again, pooling up in glassy eyes.Astraea Pandora It's funny how much this reminds me of something that actually happened to me as a kid.

"Ok, ok.." please dont let her start crying again. He warmed the water to hot and dumped some of the shampoo in her mane, starting to message in a large bubble mass. "We'll get it clean first and then condition then it will be easier to comb out like usual!" his voice cracked from the forced cheerfulness. He was relived when chunks of molasses started to sloth off her mane and he began to feel hopeful again.Maybe this will work after all. He managed to get the comb out from her hair and dunked her under the facet, trying to get all the shampoo out. Her hair felt stiff in his hooves, but thats what the conditioner would fix right? "Ok now for conditioner.."

The waterworks started to dry up as the water running off her mane took on a molasses-ey color, sparking a wider and wider smile on the otherwise miserable Damselfly's face. She hesitated to help along, little wings fidgeting and twitching and at one point, accidentally smacking Blade Waltz right in the face- which spurred on more apologies. No crying, though. She was trying to be Tough and Not Cry because Bladie was trying to help her not to.
Most of the color of molasses was gone, but the white of her hair was still notably stained a tea-color, and the yellow dingy and closer to brown.
"Thank you," she murmured, feeling better enough that by the time Blade Waltz brought over the conditioner she could help try to rub it into her locks. The material was much better at sloughing off the remaining sugary stickiness, though it would take many rises until the white of her hair would show white again.

Blade blushed a little. "Yeah, sure no problem. I know what its like to want your mane soft and manageable." He brought back out the comb and started to gingerly pull it though her hair. It stuck a bit again at first but after a few gentle tugs it smoothed through. After a few passes it began to comb like normal. Blade took a huge breath and his heart started to slow down finally. "Looks like you'll be fine." he said. "After your cleaned up, we can clean the kitchen and grandma won't know a thing happened!" he said this with confidence.

What a relief- Damselfly sighed softly as Blade Waltz finally managed to get the comb through her hair. The stickiness was gone, all the little bits of glass gone down the drain along with the molasses, and with it most of Damselfly's worries. But not quite.
"We... should tell grandma, when she comes back. We broke one of her things." It was only right. She'd never seen her grandmother upset before, and she could only hope that she wouldn't become upset by this, but Damselfly had to tell her. The water was turned off, the filly shaking some of the water from her hooves before stepping out.
"You didn't freak out at all." Damselfly mumbled from somewhere inside of a fluffy towel, scrubbing her head against it to get her hair somewhat dry- at least not dripping on the floor.
