User ImageName: Aradia Sinagra

Nickname: Dia

Age: 18 19 20

Birthday: October 28th

Sign: Scorpio

Gemstone: Topaz

Blood Type: A-

Fav. Food: Blackberry jam tarts with a cinnamon crust

Hated Food: Mangoes

School: DCU [Pre-Law]

Hobbies: Reading - Dia loves reading, both for fun and to expand her knowledge. Her mother was something of a bibliophile, and that passed on to Dia a bit. Dia, however, is rather picky with her books-for-fun. She LOVES a good story with action, adventure, and romance in it...but she prefers things dealing with brave knights, loyal musketeers, and damsels who prove themselves to be quite capable of saving themselves. She does have more than a few stories of darker settings (most still with a knightly flare to them) on her shelves...and one well-read, well-loved copy of Dracula. As for knowledge...lately she tends towards seeing how US law interacts with the various cultures immigrants bring and have brought with them.

Fencing - Picked up when she was little because of 'The Princess Bride' and (admittedly) the Star Wars trilogy (the first one), Dia loves fencing almost as much as she loves reading. Not only does it keep her on her toes and in shape, there's an honesty to a fencing match that seems harder and harder to find in the rest of the world. In fencing, there is only you and your opponent; your skill against theirs. And if you lost, it was because they had a skill you lacked. She strives to learn from her losses, and does not gloat over her wins. She doesn't get to fence with others nearly as much as she'd like to lately, but she still practices daily.

Singing - It started in church, and trying to sing along to the music her mother played, and grew from there. Dia has never had formal training, and sings simply for fun and pleasure, tending towards songs that have a more operatic or classical sound to them. She could be considered a mezzo-soprano.

Collecting - Dia doesn't collect JUST anything, however. She collects things others might consider odd or spooky: a pair of porcelain skulls, a jar with a strange looking...Cthulu-esque thing in it, the skeleton hand candle holder...anything of the sort is fair game, really. So long as it is well-made and Dia has the cash on hand for it.

Virtues:
[+]Polite - Since she was young, Dia has had good manners drilled into her. Generally, even if she dislikes a person, she'll be at least polite to them, minding her 'Mister's and 'Miss'es and being sure not to give in to the temptation to call the most snippish of commentators rude names. Or at least trying not to. She falters occasionally. Dia remembers her 'please' and 'thank you's, tries to hold the door open for those close behind her if she reaches it first, and is sure to return things on time or be punctual for a date or appointment. It's become especially important to her to be polite since she started expressing herself as 'gothic', because of all the negative associations people have with the subculture and fashion. And some might think her a little odd, since her speech is so...PROPER.

[+]Determined - Dia is not a quitter. Once she has said she'll do something, or has set her mind on a goal, she will keep striving for it. She will persevere through the challenges tossed her way, and...well, sometimes, life might make her a little late, but she'll get it done, darn it! She won't give up, not until every angle has been looked at, every side tried, and every contact called. Going hand in hand with her willingness to keep striving forward is a seemingly unending supply of patience. It most certainly has an end (though it is hard to reach), but she's used to dealing with disappointments, waiting for the moment, and tough sells.

[+]Honorable - Dia holds herself to a personal code of honor, and does her best to unswervingly follow it and make proper amends when she falters. She takes responsibility for her actions, speaks up when something seems wrong (even if she is a lone voice), does her best to be truthful, and does not look down on those that seem 'below' her, often standing up for the 'little guy'. She keeps to her word, and once her loyalty is given, it is not easily swayed. Some might say she's seen and read too many stories of Knights and Musketeers. And she doesn't always succeed in following her own rules, despite her efforts.

[+]Charitable - Dia is the sort of person who prefers to help, rather than harm. She has the resources, so why shouldn't she use them? She'll happily give someone the coat off her back if they need it, or usher them to the nearest diner for a good, hot meal on her bill. Even with her busy school schedule, she finds time to help those less fortunate in life than her. And her charitable attitude extends to her friends and classmates as well. If someone is struggling in a class she's doing well in, she'll offer to help them out; or if a friend simply needs an ear that won't judge, she's happy to offer it.

Flaws:
[-]Reserved - Dia has often been called aloof, despite her kindness, simply because she's not one to show her emotions openly. Grins and gut-splitting laughs and waterfall tears are not for this woman. Instead, she keeps her emotions very private, letting only a few see them or just dealing with them herself. This makes it very hard for many to relate to her, or they'll misunderstand her reactions, seeing them as 'too little' when inside she's trying to hold it together or jumping for joy. She has a bad tendency of bottling things up inside...if she DOES break down crying, it means she's in a bad place, most likely.

[-]This Isn't How It's Supposed to Be - Dia is...a little too optimistic with the world at times. She believes in the power of due process, in a fair trail for all, and that those who deserve punishment will get their due. It's why she started on the path to becoming a lawyer. And when she encounters the things that are incongruous with her beliefs in the power of the law...well, she's always more than a little surprised and shocked. She gets frustrated and irritable when someone who broke the rules gets off scott-free or with a lighter punishment than they should have gotten.

[-]Just a Little Creepy - This is something Dia truly doesn't mean...but it happens anyways. With her black humor, style of dress, reserved attitude, and fascination for the spooky and odd, a lot of people find her...well, just a bit creepy. At least. She tends to make more conservative people uncomfortable, and more than a few adults tend to steer their children away from her. Especially if she has her fangs in.

[-]Oblivious When Absorbed - Once Dia's attention is on something, it becomes hard to get her attention from it. Her focus is so solely on that one thing that she doesn't notice the world around her, often getting startled when someone finally snaps her focus. It's why she stopped walking and reading...she is the sort who will literally walk into something or someone while her nose is in a book.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Dark blue, almost black, and almond-shaped.

Hair: Blonde with fire red highlights, thick and wavy. Dia keeps it in a mid-back length french braid.

Face: This is a good idea of her face and facial features. Her skin is an olive color, and tends to tan easily. She does try avoiding the sun, or using a parasol to keep her skin from turning too dark.

Clothes: She's what one would call a 'Victorian Gothic', reveling in dark colors (especially black and darker reds and oranges) and Victorian-inspired fashions with a touch of the macabre. Her makeup tends to fit the outfit, and she's one of those goths who doesn't use anything to make herself paler. She favors silver and gold jewelry in elegant designs, once again with a touch of the macabre, and loves matching it to her outfits. She's also gotten a pair of custom vampire fang caps for her upper canines. She tends to reserve them for clubbing, Halloween, and 'spooky' gatherings, however.

  • Dia is originally from Manhattan. She moved to Destiny City when she was 16, when her father decided Destiny City was a better place for his family.
  • No, she doesn't have the 'New York accent'. Please stop asking her to talk in it.
  • Dia's family is one of those well-off ones, thanks to a combination of her mother's inheritance from a VERY well off father (now deceased), her father's inheritance from his former-politician grandfather, and her father's job as a lawyer. Her mother Cosima Sinagra (nee Fattore), age 50 and a housewife, has a very close relationship with her daughter, knowing that behind Dia's mask of reserve is a very big heart. It was Cosima that instilled a sense of giving back, and a dose of good manners, in Dia when she was young. Dia's father Massimo Sinagra, age 51 and a lawyer, is her idol. He encouraged her reserved nature, and is the one who suggested she go for a degree in law when she showed major interest. To Dia, Massimo can do no wrong. Dia also has three older siblings, being the youngest child and last to leave the nest. Her oldest brother Prospero Sinagra, age 29 and an engineer, works for New York City. He and Dia aren't particularly close, but when she's in town (or vice versa), he ALWAYS takes her to lunch during his lunch break (or when she's free) so they can chat and catch up. Second of the Sinagra children is Savio Sinagra, age 26 and a high school math teacher at Meadowview. He's married to Camila Sinagra (nee Estrada), 26 and a kindergarten teacher at Knightside Elementary, and the two have a baby on the way. Dia gets along with both her brother and sister-in-law, joining them for dinner a couple of times a month and getting coffee with Savio once a week. Her sister Filomena Sinagra, age 25 and a nurse back in New York City, is likely Dia's best friend, despite the fact they see each other rarely now. They have similar personalities, though Mena is less easily distracted and is quite a bit more outwardly emotional.
