The hair on the back of her neck was raised, because she'd seen how close General Labyrinthite had been when they'd escaped, when they appeared on the platform that was Denebola's welcoming dock. She felt the tension drain out of her when she looked at Regulus, cast her gaze across the withered vegetation that made up most of the planet, because they were safe.
"Well, I prefer to bring people here in better circumstances," Denebola laughed, harsh and bitter, "but welcome to Denebola, wasteland of trees and insects and whatever else I haven't seen." Despite returning multiple times, often accompanied, the dragonfly senshi hadn't really explored her world. Outside of the massive, broken temple in the center.
"Come on," she instructed, moving forward, stepping over a broken column that was strewn across the platform. "We can rest, in the temple. It's the only structure that's still mostly standing." She looked back at him pointedly. "Then, we should probably talk."

"We're not dead' is a pretty good occasion... And you have trees. I have... sand. Lots of sand... and like a really big random blue lion statue on an otherwise ridiculously beige sandbox." He muttered, mostly hoping to "...Yeah you're gonna yell at me aren't you?" He finished, trying not to make eye-contact as he let his eyes wander around the battered world. It must have been something in it's heyday.

'Oh yes, we're not dead let's celebrate on a virtually dead planet. Sounds like my kind of party," the woman snapped. Immediately her expression softened and she looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, that's not fair of me." She was irritated at him, yeah, but she was mostly just shaken up and frustrated about the situation as a whole. "Sand's better than looking at dead things."
"Yelling isn't the word I was going to use but, sure we can go with that." She moved forward, with her head held high, only glancing back at her companion to make sure he was with her. She didn't know what else the place held, she didn't want him to get hurt.
"Look," she said with a shaking inhale of breath. "I'm thankful that you saved my life, but I'm pretty irritated over the fact that you were content to let me think that you were just...ordinary. I put myself at risk for you and--" she stopped, both verbally and physically.
She turned to face him, lip pulled between teeth. "I mean, I was still willing it's just-- it would've been nice to know who I was defending."

"You were defending someone who has only -not- thrown his pen out because of nights like that." He admitted, letting bitterness spill out in his voice. "Stupid damn cat shoulda found someone else. And please -god- don't give a me a line about how it's my duty to go out every night and cause extensive property damage and maiming. I've heard it. I've also watched my relationships with literally everyone I thought was a friend go in the trash and been half murdered by an ex team mate because I made a rude comment about his girlfriend because he was getting up my nose about my ex I would rather lick car batteries than do this every night. It would be more relaxing!" It was a lot of venting. He hadn't meant to let out that much frustration, and that wasn't even the half of it, but 'I am apparently insufficiently a man because I didn't screw my ex, or decide I was ok with murdering strangers' seemed like more than he was comfortable with. Hell he wasn't comfortable with this much. She didn't deserve his frustration, or to be cornered into listening to his problems, but there it was, and he stared almost guiltily at his boots, scowling and embarrassed.

"I'm not going to give you any lines---" she hesitated, realizing that she didn't really know his name. She'd heard the power shout, but she'd been too distracted to catch the actual title. "I get it okay? This whole superhero thing? It sucks, a lot." She'd had more brushes with death than she'd care for in a life time and she'd lost people.
Sometimes, exhaustion won out over pride and determination.
"You lose a lot of people; either to them running away or they die or they switch sides. You've been forced into a war you've never wanted and you fight when you have to, not because you're eager to." She threaded gloved hands into her bangs, pushed them back with strands clinging to her forehead. "You're tired, exhausted bone deep and you want nothing more than to give up. Still, you saved me. You could've ran like I asked and left me to my fate but you didn't. That counts for something right?"

"I could've..." he admitted, dully. "But that would have been shitty. He had a scythe... not a... a squeak hammer." Everything kept coming back to that first fight it felt like. "Regulus. It's Regulus, Senshi of Pride. Jaimie if you prefer since you've already met me...unofficially." She wasn't wrong though, he was bone tired of it all. You'd think the ability to jump to the roof of a two story building would be exhilarating, but he felt like he'd lost the ability to remember when it wasn't being impaled with an arrow, being chased around by Europa yelling about their disastrous last date -while he had an arrow sticking out of him- (She'd later excused this surreal behavior on a concussion), or being assaulted by Castor... or...ugh. Angus Cowden. "Sorry, I'm.... not actually trying to take it out on you. I'm just.... every other person I used to know... I'm doing it wrong if I power up, I'm doing it wrong if I don't... I just can't win. None of which is on you."

"He's a d**k, the war is awful, and I wouldn't have blamed you." All truths and she looked at him earnestly. "Just because I'm willing to put myself in the middle of things doesn't mean -- it's not fair of me to expect the same." Once upon a time she had expected that of everyone she met, but the times had changed and she was not the same bright-eyed girl she'd been when she first awoke.
"Fiona," she offered.
"It's okay," she reassured him, unfazed by his misdirected anger. "It happens, we had a near death experience that forced you to power up when you'd rather not. I'm not-- I'm not the people you're talking about, but you can talk to me. If you want." Sometimes a willing ear was all that was needed.
"It sucks, having all these things to say and no one to say them to."

"I just... " He floundered, awkwardly, feeling tired in the wake of his outburst. "I'm just tired of hearing I'm a failure and feeling like one. I'm the only senshi I know who's eternal attack actually does less than -literally anything else I can do-. I mean I'm supposed to be the senshi of pride but unless the point is Pride Goeth before a Fall there is -not ******** much to be proud of-." He'd tried so hard to believe in himself, he'd given up so much to try and pursue his dream, to -stay- in Destiny... and all it got him was an cheap apartment, manuscripts that weren't selling, and tentative and prickly relations with his family. "Sorry again. I mean I just... I don't know."

Her lip was pulled between teeth and she worried down on it when she turned to look at him fully. "Jamie," she started, voice soft, sweet, and caring. "You're not a failure." Failures gave up, they walked away when got the chance and he hadn't walked away.
He'd stayed and risked his life for her.
"Have you ever thought that maybe your belief in yourself is affecting your powers?" Kam had been going through similar struggles. His powers were manifesting themselves in violent, uncontrollable ways and Fiona had felt that it was Kam's own lack of control over his life that had spread into his powers.
"Those people who are telling you that you suck, that you're a failure? They're wrong and they're projecting because it's easier to tear someone else down than it is to help them through a rough time or admit your own faults."

"I..." He didn't know how to respond to that, the soft tone was almost worse... no in a way it was, than the disgusted look on the faces of others. It was hard to remember the last time someone had looked at him that way, instead of looking at him like he was making an endless chain of mistakes. "...No. I never thought of that. I've never... I mean..." He'd never heard of anything like that happening, but then, when all this had started, he'd never heard of people having magical alternate identities anywhere but a comic book. He rubbed his eyes furiously and hoped she thought it was dust or some trace of aeons old pollen, because the alternative was embarrassing. "It's just everyone else I know has somehow kind of drifted into being alright with killing people and I -can't- and... Oh God, I'm sorry."

Fiona didn't know what she expected as a reaction but this had not been what she'd been expecting. Jamie, rubbing at his eyes and struggling to say what he meant. She stepped toward him tentatively, hands reaching because she wanted to gather him into a hug but she stopped, hesitated.
"Jamie," she said slowly, letting her hands hover just above his shoulders. "Why are you sorry? You're human. You're allowed to make mistakes, to have different opinions and to not be okay with killing someone else." Fiona herself didn't know how she felt about it.
She didn't think she'd ever actively seek to kill someone but it if was self-defense, then maybe but even then she thought it might ruin her. "Jamie can I-- Can I hug you?"
She didn't want to overstep boundaries, well more so than she already had. "You know me, I'm not like that. We can start over."

"This is why I don't power up." he laughed, uncomfortably. "They're not entirely wrong, I'm crap at this. I mean... yeah... yeah I'd like that." He barely had his own life together, he had no idea how the hell anyone was supposed to do this to begin with. "I accidentally blew up a car once." He offered, with a chuckle. "Well... half a car. A youma ate most of it first."

Fiona stepped forward, arms spread wide and pulled Jamie into a hug. "We can work on it, okay?" She offered quietly. "I know you don't know me very well, but I'm here and I'm going to support you okay?"
Fiona stood by the fact that facing life threatening situations with someone created a bond. They were friends as far as she was concerned.
She pulled away, stepped back and left a hand outstretched. "Yeah? I let some lieutenant convince me to get into a stolen car with him once. We got chased. It was a wild ride." But she wouldn't do it again, even if she was willing to have conversations with people on the other side.
"I'm assuming you blew up the rest of the youma though, right?" She smiled brightly as she could at him. "Look, this, our lives aren't easy, I'm never going to ask you to power up if you don't want to but--" her smile slipped and she sighed. "I'll be here, as Fiona or as Denebola, whenever you need me for whatever it is okay? You just need someone to lean on? Then you got it."
She thought about her flat and the space it had and she wanted to invite him over. "We could do movie nights or dinner at my place. I'm a decent cook. Or we could get coffee somewhere. Whatever you want."

"I make a pretty good burger... unless you're a vegetarian... in which case I make a god awful murder patty with extra murder on top."He offered. "I tried dong the vegetarian thing once. I can't stand it, I'm afraid, or at least I haven't met any I did. I think your stolen car sounds like a bit more fun than blowing one up though. It did take out the youma... apparently giant goo monsters are amazingly flammable, at least after they've consumed a gas tank. But then it blew up and it was -nasty-. I mean it ashed but first it glooped everything. It was like being sneezed on by Godzilla. I mean it was better than my first night out but I've tried to be careful around flamable things. ...There was this one time though with this crazy ice lady... someone else on the field I guess had some kind of funky powers because I threw my attack and they turned into -fireballs-. I thought I went like... Super Sayian or something." OK so... there were a few things to laugh at if he looked hard enough. Or maybe it was having someone to actually share that kind of story with again. Nuxaz It's Dene. She's adorkable.

Fiona laughed, light and brightly. "Don't worry, I'm not a vegetarian," she promised. "Though, I am not the biggest fan of red meat," she shrugged like it was of little consequence.
"The ice queen, Kaguya, right? With the snow dancers?" She remembered that fight vividly, especially since so many of them had scrambled to claim the rainbow crystals that appeared after. Arisnoe has almost gotten one.
Perhaps it was best that he hadn't. "Well, I think you're cooler than a Super Sayian," she teased. "Do you-- were you there for Elysion?" She remembered being able to fly, actually fly for a short period of time. "I missed all of the space travel besides coming here and going to space before what was I guess the center of Earth."
It was nice to be able to just-- talk about things. It made her think of Cordelia and the friendship she'd fostered there. "I got attacked by one of santa's reindeer. Twice, once on Christmas Eve. Talk about a shitty holiday."
