Remarque had been dutiful of late, between his duties at work, home, and as Prince of the Dark Mirror Court. He'd been gathering a surplus of energy after noticing they were a bit low, even if the process was rather monotonous. He'd been out for two hours already and had gotten a decent amount of energy—considering he'd only drained the lowlifes he could find lurking in back alleys, and the trouble making groups of degenerates and loitering teenagers.

Which were rather slim in the colder months of the year.

Still, he'd played his part, and now he was looking to spend a little time just taking it easy before he headed home and went to bed.

So he wound up in the park, dressed as Eternal Sailor Remarque to keep his energy signature down.

It was always nostalgic to be here; when he'd first started powering up, he'd spent a lot of time here.

…And it seemed like some other basic senshi was, too.

And a first stage senshi was Remarque's favorite. Especially if they were new enough not to be tainted by the rest of the White Moon. The Dark Mirror Court was struggling for new members, and he'd take whatever he could get.

He headed towards the energy signature; as soon as he saw a flash of color he began a greeting; "Nice night for a walk in the park. You looking for trouble or ust taking it easy?"

Encke admittedly didn't spend a whole lot of time on duty.

When he took this form, it was usually to get a speed boost for a run or get transport to his cometary home. Tonight? It was the former. Encke had decided to take a short run around the park before he headed back home for the night. The script read that day had been particularly stressful--

It was easy for Encke to lose himself in his runs, paying attention to nothing but the path in front of him and the wind through his hair. Sometimes, though, there was a sense in the back of his mind that rang, something he had some point learned to associate with things he generally wanted to avoid for his own health. A similar sensation caught him, and he paused for a moment.

Whatever it was, it was probably stronger than him --

There was a moment where Encke thought of turning tail and running away, but it was a bit too late for that, and Encke didn't run from direct confrontation. "Taking it easy," offered Encke, giving no obvious outward sign of his uneasiness. He raked his hand through his hair for a distraction. "You too? I like the peace."

He at least assumed there were a lot of different ways they could look, but this senshi in front of him was nothing familiar. He would have to keep on his guard.

Remarque seemed amused as he watched the male; he nodded. "It is a nice break from the norm, I suppose. Though, I have to admit, it's been a while since I've met a senshi so at ease. Especially a basic senshi."

He gave the male a quick look over. "Usually they seem so eager to jump into battle, or to tackle a threat they don't understand. I must say, I find the conversation so much more enjoyable."

If only because it meant he didn't go home to a fiancé who nagged over all his scrapes.

Well. That, and he found that the best way to convince someone to join the Dark Mirror Court was generally not to barrage them with fists until they had no choice but to consent. Of course, there was the option for forcible corruption, but…

When they remembered everything, what was the point?

No, conversation was the best way to win them over.

And Remarque was fishing for any would-be Dark Mirror Senshi he could find.

If he was a newer senshi, perhaps he might have raised his heckles more quickly, but these days?

It mostly just seemed like a good way to catch death.

Encke listened attentively, trying to puzzle out in his head what the man in front of him was. He was wearing black, that much was for certain, but how much did that really mean? He vaguely reached for his own bodice before deciding against it, shaking his hand out instead.

"I've learned it's better to evaulate a situation sometimes," admitted Encke. That much was true. He was still rather impulsive in general, but his therapist had taught him a few ways to rein that in, a bit. There were other ways to channel the energy --

Not that the therapist knew that he was some otherworldly comet-powered thing, but the lessons still applied.

He tilted his head slightly at the other senshi as if to get a better look, making it a bit more obvious that he was trying to evaluate him, himself. What was he, the senshi of eyes? "It can be a better move to talk, I think." At least, when he had no idea what it was he was actually facing. "So," he straightened out a bit and affected a comically formal voice to break the air, "to whom am I speaking?"

Remarque nodded; he could appreciate someone capable of rational thought before irrational action. They could make for a very skilled team member. Though, to be honest he'd really just have taken anyone who wanted to be involved in the Court or help them expand and reach their goals. Times had not been easy on the Dark Mirror Court, loathe as he may have been to admit as much.

"Remarque," he replied casually, as though his introduction was something he had given time and time again. But he always made a big show of it; he couldn’t help it. "Prince of the Dark Mirror Court. And you are…?"

He hadn't been able to identify the senshi's sphere by anything on his outfit; he held out a hand as if to shake.

Remarque, Prince...

Of the Dark...

Mirror?

Encke couldn't help the way he squinted for a few seconds, a bit baffled as his mind quickly spun to try and figure out what exactly that was. Prince of the Dark Mirror Court? What? He knew what royalty was, at least in general concept, but the Dark Mirror Court was something he had never heard of before.

He guessed the whole dark thing explained the black bodice.

He quickly snapped out of it and returned the handshake, attempting to roll back into a casual expression even if it likely was already too late. "Encke, of no fancy titles."

What the hell was a dark mirror?

Remarque quirked a brow. "No fancy titles at all?" he asked, seeming a bit amused. "We could start simple. What are you the senshi of?"

He wore a smug, somewhat knowing smile, as though he expected Encke didn't seem to know what ot make of him. He was partly gloating in his title, but he couldn’t help it: sometimes Remarque just liked to bask in the spotlight.

Especially when he suspected his audience wasn't entirely sure what they were dealing with.

"If you don't mind me asking, of course. You look like you've got some questions of your own. Have you…been acquainted with a member of the Dark Mirror Court yet?"

Would there be any harm in telling this ... Prince dude... What he was the senshi of?

He supposed not; at least, he couldn't think of anything obviously harmful about it, though he almost assuredly was missing something since he didn't really know what this guy was. What exactly could he do, though, with just a power source? Likely not much. Almost awkward, he rubbed his shoulder with the opposite arm, crossed over his chest. "Plasma," a simple admission. He quickly followed it up with a, "Yours?"

He knew he had been too late to cover what he did not know, and Remarque's next question made that obvious. No point in hiding that. Wouldn't get him anywhere.

Besides, this Prince Remarque hadn't harmed him yet. "And no, I have not been... acquainted." Honestly, he wasn't even really aware there were courts of senshi, but he wasn't going to add that bit. He would add, though, with a bit of a smile, "Dark Mirror isn't exactly a name I'd forget easily."

Was there a light mirror? ... Why were they named after mirrors in the first place?

Remarque's eyes lit up when his suspicions were confirmed; he even seemed to smile. "Plasma is an interesting sphere. I am the Senshi of Puppetry. There is nothing to fear, you know," he said, and even managed to sound friendly. "About the Dark Mirror Court, I mean. Depending on who you speak to, there are those that will try to paint us in a bad light. Mostly because of ancient history, but…"

He shrugged. "We are not bad. We are senshi, like yourselves. We are not controlled by Metallia. We care for many of the same things as those of your own Court do. Only…we have a different way of going about it. We both, after all, just want to keep those closest to us safe, don't we?"

... Puppetry? If he squinted, he guessed he could sort of see where that came from considering what he was wearing --

Though, if he was being honest with himself, he would have never guessed puppetry of all things. He pursed his lips and nodded in response, attempting to get his wariness back under control; the last thing he wanted to do is appear even more nervous than he likely already looked...

Besides, there was no reason to be anxious, even if he was in unfamiliar territory. This man was not being a threat.

Ancient history? Encke wished he had more perspective on a lot of this, and he frowned a bit realizing that, despite being a senshi for years, he really had no perspective. He was in a Court himself? He couldn't help but gesture subtly as he tried to figure this out. And who was Metallia? He had no idea. Was she their enemy as senshi? At least, he was assuming it was a she. Sounded like a woman's name, if anything.

"Of course," said Encke, even if he didn't exactly do as much on the 'keeping loved ones safe' front as he probably should have. "What do you mean by different way?"

"Well," Remarque began, as casual as anything, "The Senshi seemed hell-bent on eradicating the Negaverse. The Dark Mirror Court used to be allies—not my idea, mind you," he stressed, "But we have since parted ways. The Negaverse is incredibly dangerous. And treacherous. And I wholeheartedly despise their tactics. And youma," he sneered and shuddered. "Vile."

Remarque smoothed the front of his outfit out, as though it weren't already in immaculate condition. "But I doubt, in the time we will be alive, that the Negaverse will be the only threat. The Dark Mirror Court understands that. We are in a precarious situation; the Court's founder mislead us into believing the Negaverse were trustworthy. They know our identities." He seemed annoyed with the thought. "So we weave between the lines, doing what we need to in order to survive. While the White Moon fights the Negaverse, we look for an alternative: This world will not last forever. Either it will be destroyed in the war, or some greater threat will arrive down the line. But the Senshi, like yourselves, are so focused on saving Earth that they do not always consider otherwise. The Dark Mirror Court aspires to get into space—to create a safe haven off of this world, so that when Earth meets its eventual demise, we'll have a backup for everyone."

Negaverse. Youma. Those were at least things he recognized, and his eyes widened a bit in alarm when Remarque suggested an alliance between themselves and that.

But when Remarque added it wasn't his idea and he didn't like the Negaverse, he settled again. Good. No one who liked the Negaverse could have been any good at all. Their founder liking them was alarming, but it seemed Remarque had common sense.

He also seemed to make a lot of sense in general. Encke liked going to his comet. Trips to space, restoration of space -- that fit right in with what he wanted to do. He noticed Remarque said "get to," though. Could they not take trips like he could?

Interesting.

He assumed White Moon must have referred to his court. He wasn't sure what he had anything to do with the Moon, though -- or a moon, even. Encke was a comet. There was also an asteroid named Encke and some remnants near Earth that he found via astronomy research, but no moons.

"The Negaverse should be eradicated. They threaten everyone, especially those that can't protect themselves." He was referring to civilians, of course. Not that he was doing a very good job of eradicating them himself, though he tried to fend off youma when he ran into them. "What you say makes sense, though. Evil never ends."

He frowned.

"Can you go to space, like we can?"

Remarque shook his head. "No, we have lost that ability. We have a realm we can access—Mirrorspace—but it is unlike the natural homeworlds senshi usually have. To be entirely frank, we don't know everything it holds. But I suspect it has to have something in there to help us out. To give us the advantage we need."

He sighed and combed his fingers through his hair.

"We haven't made as much progress as I would have liked, but we're working on it. What about you, have you been to your homeworld?" he asked, seeming wholeheartedly interested.

That confirmed what he was expecting. It seemed a shame that the group that wanted to go to space instead got rewarded with, well, not space.

Having a mysterious realm seemed pretty cool, though. It also explained that Dark Mirror name, considering they had a "mirrorspace" location that was mysterious. Encke nodded his head with lips pursed, looking interested in the concept of Mirrorspace even if it wasn't as cool as actual outer space was. (Of course, if they figured out some way to use Mirrorspace to get to outer space, maybe it could be as cool...)

Encke cleared his throat.

"That's too bad, really." He frowned, but it was brief. Thinking of his homeworld made his eyes light up. "I have! Encke's Comet is awesome. I'd like to bring it back to its former glory."

Encke also liked space in general, really...

Remarque nodded knowingly. "You've been there?" he prompted. "I admit, I'm a bit surprised. More often then not, it seems like the senshi are avoiding their homeworld or don't know anything about it. Seems like such a wasted opportunity."

He shifted on his feet and looked at Encke. "What's it like?"

Remarque didn't seem like he any ulterior motives in asking; his eyes showed nothing but genuine interest. He was a good liar, but of that he didn't even have to try.

Though he wasn't quite obsessed with getting into space, his time on the Surrounding a few years ago had painted an image he hadn't been able to get out of his head; all he wanted to do now was get back out there.

He missed it. He'd have liked to visit again—only, on his own terms.
