Sergei's jog with Noel had led him to the more rustic section of the DCU lots, and he was passing by the stables where he could see members of something practicing their showmanship on top of various color and sizes of horses. He slowed to watch a couple race, or jump fences before picking up his jog. Usually Noel stayed close to him but in her curiosity, she wandered away from his side and into the stables.
There was a clear...
"Noooooooooooooooo." From Sergei as he trailed after her. He didn't want her getting hurt with all the bigger creatures around!

The bay gelding was Basil's favorite to ride, named appropriately Paloma for her gentle demeanor. Some of the other horses were much more vocal in their stalls, tossing their heads and whinnying as he walked past them, but Paloma was as quiet as ever.
Basil reached up a hand and patted her strong neck, feeling the muscle beneath as she shifted restlessly, nose pressing against his shoulder, clearly searching for some sort of apple or sugar cube or carrot for a snack. A low laugh escaped him.
"All right, all right," he said, and reached into a pocket. But before he could offer the treat, he heard an unfamiliar voice calling out, the sound of footsteps. Basil turned his head curiously, brows drawing together, and caught sight of a dog casually meandering down the stables and followed by a man who looked less than pleased to find it there.
"Hello," said Basil curiously. "Your dog, I presume?"

Noel responded to the no by going right up to Basil and his large animal, sniffing them and then plopping her hind down. She didn't bark, nor did she wag her tail in excitement. Instead, the husky offered a paw like a dainty female would.
She expected that Basil would take it.
"Yes." He stopped by her side and then looked down at her. There was no point in moving her and he tucked his hands in his pockets, looking off to the side. "She does not do this often." He added. "Her name, Is Noel."

Basil's brows rose. Obediently - or maybe automatically - he reached out and accepted the dog's paw, giving it a slight shake as though he wasn't quite certain what to do with it, though there was a look of curiosity on his face as his gaze flickered back to the man.
"Well," he said, "It's nice to meet you, Noel."
He did rather like animals. Basil's head tilted to the side.
"Are you here for a riding lesson, or..?"

"Noel." He pointed at her. "Led me down here."
He then looked at the horse, shying a bit away. "I am no good with big animals." He waved his hands. "No good."

Basil glanced back at the dog and bent to scratch behind her ears, blinking up curiously. The accent was unusual, not from around here; and while it was rather familiar in a sense, he couldn't quite seem to place it.
"That's all right," he said, "Not everyone is."
He straightened and held a hand out.
"I'm Basil, by the way."

"Sergei." He shook the hand and then nodded. "Noel likes it around here, Do you ride?" He pointed to the horse behind the young man.
"Are you student?"

"I do," said Basil with a nod. "I've been riding for several years now. And yes, ah, a second year student here. I study a great many subjects, but I take riding classes out here as well."
He gestured to one of the horses beside him, a beautiful bay mare.
"You said you're not good with them, but have you ever ridden any?"

Sergei's eyes actually widened.
"N...Nyet." He looked over at the monstrous horse.
"TOO big." But what was challenges if he didn't over come them in some way?

"They're big, yes," said Basil reasonably, reaching up to pat the horse's neck. "But they're rather nice once you get to know them. This is Delilah, she's very gentle."
He glanced at Sergei, eyebrows raised curiously. "Do you want to pet her?"

Sergei stared at her.

"No biting," Basil reassured, and Delilah gave a low whinny, tossing her head slightly so that her mane flicked back and forth, her hooves shifting on the hay strewn floor.
"I've ridden her several times this week, she's very docile for a horse. They can be dangerous, if you provoke them enough," Basil added thoughtfully. "But only if you're near her hindquarters or legs."

Sergei moved to stand just beside Basil, if not a little behind him and then reached out to....
touch....the beast.
Oh god, so scary.
But so soft. "Vhy the hindquarters and legs?"

"They kick," said Basil patiently, as he watched Sergei move uncertainly forward. "But not often. Only when they're uncomfortable and only when they're spooked. She's in her stable now, though, she'll be find. She's got everything she needs, so just don't scare her and you'll be good."
He gave the man was meant to be a reassuring pat on his shoulder.
"See? She's not so bad. Would you like to try and feed her a carrot?"

Noel seemed perfectly fine to just sit and watch her master and his sudden need to overcome his fear of large animals. In fact, the dog lowered her body and rested her paws over each other, watching the two young men.
"Do they like their stables?" Sergei asked curiously, "Is not small for them? She is not bad." He rubbed a hand over the mare's cheek and then looked at Basil. "F...Feed her?" His eyes widened.
"Is that okay?"
