Winter break had been nice and short, which had been so enjoyable. The small break from both powered and civilian life had let the woman recharge her batteries. At least, patrolling. Sometimes she felt the great need to visit her wonder and she would touch base on her sandy tropical paradise.
Sometimes she brought Thrymr to explore, or Aegir to talk and enjoy. Or there was Mont Blanc, and they would swim in the oceans and make love on the beaches or in the houses that still stood.
But winter break was over, and her hand was tucked into her boyfriends as they walked the campus of DC university. Bliss was clearly written on her face. Nothing could go wrong, could it?

Lorne had loved it, the break from Mont Blonc - minus visiting Methone, although he didn't know that that really counted. There was no risk to himself or his life there, no worry of who may or may not be looking, lurking around every corner. He'd relaxed some now with rest, but in the days following Xenotime's attack... it was an understatement to say he was a little jumpy. The nightmares had been worse. He'd spent as little time walking in the city alone as he could, whether as himself or as the knight.
It was better now. Slowly but surely now, it had gotten better. He still didn't know what he planned to do about college, or how exactly he planned to tell Nadia what a disaster this semester had been, if he'd even tell her at all.
Right now, though - side by side with the girl he loved with all his heart, her hand soft and small in his, Lorne was happy.
In spite of all the weirdness with the Code...
"What should we get for lunch? - are you in the mood for anything special?"

The campus of DCU may have been large to some, with thousands of students milling about - but Archer found it pleasingly small in certain areas. The grounds were well-kept, but not so enormous that it was difficult to find his way around them. Archer found that he never got lost, not that he ever really did even when he was not at school.
And he was not lost now, having just left his latest biology class. Archer slid his textbook into his bag, which was a handsome, leather messenger bag slung over one shoulder, and stepped out onto the grass, studiously ignoring most of the people he passed by. He was disinterested in their lives, in their affairs. None were of any benefit to him whatsoever.
None, except...
He caught sight of familiar black hair and height as tall as his own, perhaps even taller, and Archer felt a sense of satisfaction overtake him. He wound around two boys who looked as though they had no idea where they were going and stepped out onto the walkway.
"Lorne," he said lightly, slowing to a stop in front of him. "There you are."

Nadia tilted her head as another man joined them. Lorne hadn't told her that he made friends but it seemed after they had started dating, her boyfriend had become more open with people.
"I was thinking chinese." She looked up at him sweetly, "Do you want to invite your friend-" She waited for a name to be offered.

Lorne stopped dead. His hold on her hand tightened, suddenly, as it by reflex. His gaze was locked onto Archer, and like it always tended to be, the rest of the world went dim. But not dark. Nadia's hand was there, she was there, and -
"Archer, " he said softly by way of both greeting and explanation. He resisted the urge to run. He wanted to. He wanted to turn around and run away like he'd been for months. He wanted to sidestep and put himself between Archer and Nadia, didn't want him to see her, didn't want her to see what Lorne was like around him.
Instead, he was all but frozen, more paralyzed than bold. "Here I am - and - and this is Nadia." God why was his voice shaking so much? "My girlfriend." He tried to sound firm, resolute. Look, here she is, it's done. Walk away. Please walk away.

His gaze flickered briefly to the woman beside Lorne, as though noticing her for the first time. Archer's eyes swept slowly and deliberately from foot to head, then down once more, head tilted slightly, the expression on his face revealing hardly anything at all except a simple curiosity.
"Nada," Archer repeatedly lightly. "Yes."
His eyes went back to Lorne, Archer pulling the bag he was carrying up a bit further on his shoulders; and though he was smiling mildly, there was something distinctly cold about it, and it did not reach further than the curve of his lips upwards.
"Lunch," he said casually, "would be great."

Nadia wasn't sure why she go thte chills about the guy, and why Lorne would find his company good. Instead, she leaned into Lorne happily when he claimed her and then smiled at Archer again.
"Archer huh?" For someone reason that name triggered something in her, but it wasn't more then a awkward discomfort. Instead, she was more surprised by the behavior of Lorne, with his sudden riggedness and frozen.
Maybe he was just always nervous? She had grown so accustomed to him being so comfortable with the saturn team, and herself.
Or maybe it was a case of STRANGER DANGER.
"We were thinking cafeteria, but if you have an recommendations Archer?"FrayedFlower I think I remember that Nadia still doesn't know about Archer >__> BUT COLIN DOES SO

No. No no no no no -
No, he didn't want Archer coming to lunch. No, he didn't want this to drag out any longer than it had to. No, he didn't want Archer looking at him like that. He wanted to say 'no'. He wanted to say it was a bad idea. The words were literally on the tip of his tongue and just begging to come out.
But much like he couldn't hang up the phone, and much like he hadn't been able to push him away in school that day, Lorne couldn't say the words. Instead, he held tighter to Nadia's hand, trying to fight the way his stomach twisted at the way he'd looked at her - like maybe somehow he could draw some strength of will from her. If only everything was so easy as accepting the surge of soothing energy she offered as Methone.
His heart was pounding almost out of his chest, and in the end, he said nothing at all.

He turned his head towards Nadia, his expression cool and relaxed. Archer felt a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, and his gaze went easily back to Lorne, sweeping up and down his form before settling on the wide-eyes and the look of apprehension on his face.
"There's a Chinese place not far from here," said Archer mildly. "I could show you."

The nagging feeling of something wrong was getting stronger, but Nadia just couldn't place it. It was important to figure it out quickly because Lorne was more effected by this man then she thought, and she could barely budge him as he froze in place.
His hand tightened even painfully so and it was like a trigger. Archer.
Archer.
Archer was the douchcanoe that had hurt Lorne, that had demanded his love but gave nothing in return. Who had been....
Her eyes fluttered dangerously low and the of her voice casually changed. Maybe Lorne would recognize it as the underlining of anger, but her demeanor was still relaxed. Lazy.
"Chinese sounds lovely." She looked up to Lorne, "We would love to go, and deal in some good Chinese, right lover?" She then reached up and placed a very brazen kiss on Lorne's lips.
She was right here for you Handsome, don't let him intimidate you. She's protect you.

The smile made him uncomfortable. But not as much as Archer's gaze roaming over his body like he still owned it, making Lorne shift uncomfortably, folding into himself and rolling his shoulders in the way he did to make himself seem smaller. Their eyes met and Lorne's were the first to break away, falling to the ground beneath his feet instead.
Nadia, though - there was a shift in his girlfriend's stance, in the way that she spoke, that caught his attention. She had a hard glint to her eyes that hadn't been before, and then as she spoke -
- as she spoke she turned, placing her lips on his, and for a fleeting moment he wasn't afraid at all. His cheeks burned pleasantly and his eyes fluttered shut and then -
- then he opened them again, stealing a nervous glance at Archer, if only for a fraction of a second. Not because he was afraid of the other man getting the wrong idea (it was certainly the right idea, and something he'd been trying again and again to tell Archer), but more what he could be thinking, planning, doing at any given time.

He wondered if Lorne had told Nadia about him, and amused himself momentarily about the fact that he probably had. Archer's gaze swept between the two of them with a flat, relaxed expression on his own, and now the tension was high in the air, because it was a game, wasn't it?
It was all a game.
The kiss was to be expected, as well. Only the faintest flicker in Archer's eyes indicated any sort of disapproval, but the smile was still on his face as he shrugged his bag a little higher up onto his shoulder. He let himself indulge in a look once more at Lorne - he'd always been so open and obvious in his emotions - before Archer turned now, fully, to Nadia.
Girlfriend. Lover.
It was entertaining.
"Let's go, then," he said lightly, and gestured for the two of them to follow.

Her grip was a iron knot through Lorne's and she could almost see the calculating look of Archer's. At least that is what she felt for the man. He seemed cold, calculating and cruel. Especially from what Lorne had been wary to give.
But her smile remained.
"How long have you been in school here Archer? How did you meet Lorne? He's my shy little cutie, so I am always curious when he makes..." She paused, "A friend...."
