It was a cold morning, but Vesper wore the minimum of cold weather outerwear he could manage as he biked his paper route before school started. All he really needed was enough to block the wind and the exercise would make enough body heat to take care of the rest. Still, he kept a heavier coat tied around his waist in case of an emergency.

There was snow out, so he couldn't just throw the papers to the homes like he could in drier weather. They needed to be placed where they wouldn't get wet. Vesper had gotten sternly reprimanded about that before.

He dismounted in front of the Black house, slipping a paper from his bag and approached the home.

Vesper nearly jumped in surprise, fumbling over his paper and his response.

"Yeah. Yes....Yessir!"

He paused an awkward moment, trying to figure out whether he should just proceed with his original plan to put the newspaper in the door or hand it to the man. His grip on the newspaper tightened as he realized that, first, this man did register as the person he talked to when it was time to collect the paper fee and, second, it was hard to tell but there seemed to be a bit of blood or something on his face.

"Are you okay, sir?"

He really, really hoped he hadn't just interrupted an attempted robbery. He took a step backward.
