The Gala of Osum, CXVII

It was an event known throughout the stars: The Gala of Osum. An annual tradition, it is a fundraising and trade gala to sponsor the works of the House of Osum, the premier fashion institute of the galaxy. At least, that is what Beauregard thought of the event.

Beauregard Constantine IIX, the reigning Osum Knight of Ganymede, hosted the event each year, a tradition passed down from the predecessors before him. Under Beau’s supervision, however, the event has blossomed to so much more than it once was: it was also one of the most lavish balls that Osum had ever seen.

The Gala took place throughout the city of Osum, although the main event and ballroom occurred in the House of Osum’s lavish and open interior, and its surrounding gardens.

Notable guests from all over the galaxies were invited to attend – royalties, nobilities, Knights, and Senshi alike – to dress up in their homeworld’s finest of finest fashions and dance the night away. The event was notable for being a key event in the fashion trade industry, where many new styles were premiered, and trades bartered. There was a competitive streak to it all: the more lavish and out there the attire was, the more buzz surrounded that homeworld’s planet, opening them to new trade opportunities.

It was an event that simply could not be missed.

It was not often that Alphonse got to attend such events. It was not as though Saturn were rich with extravagant balls and parties such as these, and even if there were such invitations, he typically had duties to attend to back at Mont Blonc. But the timing had been right, the pull had been too strong, and seemingly the moons had aligned for here he was, both enthralled and very much overwhelmed by the lights, colors, and sounds on every side of him.

It was no Methone, of course - it did not offer the exotic allure or either the planet or its senshi, nor the familiar comfort that came with Thrymr. But it had a charm all its own, and the white-haired knight was more than content to assume the role of wallflower and watch the goings-on, all the people and fashions and even customs he would never know beyond those who came to him to die.

To be here alone was something of a gift, and he savored it like a fine wine, all the while quietly hoping that perhaps the true pinnacle of vibrance and life would flutter before his weary eyes.

LOVE UR FACE

------------------------------

Zosime, the senshi of Eurydike, hated these things of things, all manners and poise and showing off. Not that she didn't have anything to show off; even if she hated the flowy pink dress the nobility had all but pleaded for her to wear, she knew she rocked it, her hair flowing down past her shoulders thick and laced with minute salt crystals much the same in color as her gown. It was no lack of pride in her planet (smaller as it was with hardly any reputation at all beyond once being a glorified prison), but with the recent riot down below and about twenty civilians dead, at least one of them a cousin to her, she didn't really feel much like playing the role of glorified salt peddler tonight.

Idly, she wondered if she would see her father tonight - or any of her sisters - that was enough reason to get a little excited, and that was enough to fuel her smile, coupled with the thought that there might be some beautiful ladies to grace her view.

-----------------------------------

Amphitrite was party of an escort party for the ruling party of her planet, three noble men who'd come into the position by birth. Intended to keep some semblance of balance and fairness. Almost laughable, really. They were all dressed to the nines, elaborate, their pale skin almost seeming to glow in the light of the room. She hung back at the flank of the three noble men, who would soon disperse and flit around and explore new potential trade options - more than that to show off how stunning they knew they looked.

She had no real purpose here beyond vanity, and perhaps something to sweeten a trade deal between planets - and she was fully aware of that, her gaze coyly averted to the floor and a smile etched across her face like a mask. The extent of her duties; stay quiet and smile.

(Still feeling out past Amphi a little so please bear with me! biggrin )

Pix didn't usually like 'gala's' or balls but it allowed her a freedom to roam off the planet and come to see other wonders in the universe. Though she ached to be home after being gone for as long as she had, when she stepped into the room, her gown sweeping on the floor, she had a pretty smile and her natural charm.

And wasn't it funny that her eyes would draw immediately to the wall flowers and a Familier face among them. Her aurora's gown swirled with green and blue as she rushed over to him.

"Alphonse!" she stopped in front of him. "I did not expect to see you here!"

Speak of the devil. Or the angel, more like it.

"Pix, " he breathed out as though truly breathing for the first time, the typical smile that seemed out of place and yet so fitting settling onto his face like a glove when the senshi of Methone was in his presence. "Neither did I - it was a bit last minute, I - "

The knight's eyes roamed over her, once down, then up again, yellow eyes warm as sunshine as he took a step towards her, his cheeks bright, flushed with pleased color. "You - look amazing, by the way." It was an understatement. Not enough, much like all the paints he tried to use to capture her vibrance on canvas.

Beauregard Constantine IX entered the ballroom with his first costume of the evening. He was dressed in a luxuriously breath-taking white tuxedo jacket with coattails that created a pool of silk behind him. The inner lining of the jacket was a deep passionate red of Ganymede. The lapels and collar of the tuxedo were wide and decorative with a trim made of real gold complete with erotica engraved into the metals for those who were highly attentive to the details. His prismatic golden epaulets drew in the light of the room, reflecting a flattering light back onto his beautifully chiseled face from any angle, regardless of where the light source could be found. Beneath the jacket he wore a finely pressed shirt and a waistcoat that emulated a corset in its snugness and gave his lean body an even stronger illusion of the ideal male figure. He wore silky white tights and a delicately crafted codpiece that left little to the imagination, with seven-buckle boots that completed the ensemble. As for his hair, he choose a wig that matched his fine blonde hair with perfect naturally, groomed to a high height and quiff hairdo.

He looked positively exquisite, he knew, and anyone who thought otherwise was an outright fool. And anyone who would tell him otherwise? They were the biggest fool of them all, and one who would surely be disinvited.

The bachelor grabbed a flute of champagne and made his way to the center the room - the center of attention, naturally - to await those who wished to greet him and make himself available, as any good host does. That, and it was the prime view to give snappy judgmental looks to those who arrived to the ball without meeting his high standards of fashion.

If there was anything Faelan, current senshi of Skoll and Wolf Mother to a great majority of the moon of Skoll wanted to do, it was not this. The feral woman was out of place with her furs and wild hair, to begin with. Seeing all the other dignitaries and people of power in fancy dresses and suits made her gag. How could anyone stand to be in something so confining? It was one thing to have had to have left her greatbow at the door, it was another to be told, and she quoted, 'feral beasts are not allowed on the planet nor withing the city." Dellingr wasn't a feral beast! So what if he'd snarled at the courtesy shuttle guards? It wasn't like he was going to eat them or anything.

Fae had, at the insistence of her second, wore her finest furs and left the pelt cape at home. Tight brown leather hugged her ample curves, while grey fur lined her shoulders and the inside of her boots. She still looked like she was ready for a fight, but at least it wasn't blood stained and covered in dirt.

Mostly.

The Skollkin kept to the outskirts of the room, leaning on a wall and scowling at every tiny glass of liquor brought to her. Where were the flagons? The bottles? The kegs?! This was a paltry party if there wasn't enough booze for everyone and then some. But trade negotiations had to be solidified, her second said. She had to go impress people to buy furs and leathers, he said.

"Damn Kuvo to the ninth hell I swear...." she muttered to herself, downing a full glass of wine like a flagon of mead. Pitiful.

Theseus did not like these sort of events. He was raised to be a warrior, a guardian, and not some socialite. But this was just another part of his duty as the knight of Hyperborea, there was a chance to make connections here so here he was.

The stone giant was dressed in a pure white silk chiton with a white chlamys embroidered with gold thread. He wore gold cuffs with Hyperborean symbols etched into it on both of his wrists. On his feat were sandals woven from gold thread. His black hair was tied up neatly in a braid and he wore a plain gold band on his brow.

His bright purple eyes scanned the room as he entered taking note of the others already there. His chiseled jaw set into a frown as he tried to remember if he had ever meet any of them or if his people had any trade agreements with them. He didn't believe so. "Well it will be a long night." He said to himself as he entered.

It wasn't like Signy had ever stood any chance of getting out of this. Her cries of oh, it's so far to go for just one night of dancing had died unspoken in her throat - that excuse didn't work when your destination was literally one orbit away. Besides, the chancellor had entreated her on the flight from Europa, the Gala of Osum was an incredibly important event on the galactic social calendar. The royal house of Jupiter would likely be in attendance, and for the second-in-command of the Jovian guard to fail to show would be a major snub.

So here she was, all dressed up with nowhere to run, her hair wrestled into a high updo that sought to defy gravity, and not a sign of Princess Jupiter anywhere. The chancellor had abandoned her some ten minutes ago, to go try to broker an import deal he'd said he didn't need her for, and Signy felt as though she was adrift at sea. No matter how many balls she went to, they never became any more natural for her. Her usual plan of attack was to find Liesel and cling to him, captain and second-in-command, but she didn't see him yet...

...and assuming he was here, she was certain he'd be too busy to spare a moment for her. The house of Ganymede might not have been tonight's host, but this was still their moon, and politics were complicated.

She raised her wine glass to her lips and scanned the room. If her captain was in attendance, she was sure he'd be right at the center of the party, dressed to the nines.

Crims had received an invitation to the ball, the letter finding him easily despite his constant travels and, after correspondence with Thrymr's Ahe, had decided that it was worth the risk of being caught to attend. He and his partner had agreed to arrive seperately to Osum-- to maintain the surprise of their dress -- and the knight had spent more time deliberating on what to wear than he would like to admit.

It had taken a few carefully place favors to find the outfits he wanted-- for himself and for Elu and Altais because Denebola's senshi had made the small request and he didn't have it in him to tell her no.

So, he stood beside the senshi of shockwaves with his hair carefully slicked back, dressed in primarily dark colors. He wore predominantly black, a long coat accented in the sunset colors of Thrymr over a vest who carried similar colors and accents, the mark of Crims decorated on his ornate belt buckle. He fidgeted with the lavender accented tie beneath his vest, unaccustomed to such a restricting piece of clothing.

"Well," he said lowly, glancing at the senshi beside undoubtedly buzzing with energy. "Should we find our dates?"

--

Upon receiving the generous invitation, Elu knew that she wanted to attend the ball-- if only because it was the first event she'd been invited to since her return and she was desperate for a bit of fun after everything she'd gone through. She'd requested that Crims find her and her plus one suitable outfits since she was concerned that the formal wear for ceremonies on Denebola was not fancy enough for such and event. In the end, the dress he'd had tailored for her was exquisite.

It was a pale green dress made of lace with a hi-low tail that exposed her long, slender legs. It was draped across the back with an accent designed to mimic dragonfly wings across her back in a transparent pale blue. Her long red hair was braided intricately, a bohemian-style braid, decorated with flowers and feathers from her homeworld.

Her face was free of the usual paint she wore upon Denebola, but charcoal had been used to line her eyes and her lips were painted red and her dragonfly symbol was painted in black beneath the transparent lace.

She looked a little out of place, standing off the the side on her own, with her hands folded in front of her and wearing heeled shoes she was unaccustomed to.

--

Midgard had originally had no intention of attending the ball, but after some heavy encouragement combined with her desire to stretch her legs and see a sight that wasn't the surrounding, she went. She wore a cream colored outfit, accented in the pale pinks, greens, and purples that recognizable as Chronos'. She opted for an ensemble that gave her pants, lest her movability be hindered by a constricting dress. Her favorite part was the cape draped across her shoulders, fluttering behind her as she crossed the floor of the ballroom.

Purple eyes drifted across the faces as they filtered in, looking for someone she knew, when she spotted the lovely seashell senshi and her entourage. Immediately her decision was made and Amelia strode across the floor with confidence in her step and her head held high. "Amphitrite," she called as she grew closer, a fond smile on her lips even when it faltered when she glanced at the three men. "Come, dance with me."

Liesel hated parties.

Perhaps hate was too strong a word, but he was growing increasingly uncomfortable with them. One would think he would have grown used to them by now given how frequently they occurred on Ganymede on a yearly basis. They were wrong. Each party brought its own set of anxieties. There was so much pressure to dress perfectly, to act perfectly, to speak perfectly, to dance perfectly—hell, even to eat perfectly—that Liesel felt progressively more weighed down by the obligations and expectations.

Naturally, he couldn't let his unease show. He would smile at the right moments, laugh at the right moments, and dance with whomever might ask rather than risk insulting them by refusing. He talked business, and trade, and alliances, and he pretended that these things interested him even when they didn't. He ate sparingly even when he was hungry, because he didn't want to look uncouth for eating too much. His only indulgence was the wine so freely passes around. It made the attention and the dull conversations more tolerable.

Currently, Liesel was in the midst of the crowd, talking to a representative whose name he couldn't remember, from a world he couldn't remember, discussing politics on autopilot. He said only what he'd been instructed to say, what he'd learned to be appropriate during the years of his rigorous education. After all, his opinions on the subject didn't matter. He was a representative of Ganymede and the Ganymedean government, and nothing more.

Eventually he managed to politely excuse himself by pretending to see someone else he'd yet to greet. Liesel took the opportunity to wend through the crowd with the intention of finding a quiet spot to hide out for a few moments, but changed his mind when he really did spy someone familiar he'd not yet had the pleasure of talking to. He grabbed another glass of wine from a passing tray as he went.

“Signy,” Liesel said when he finished his approach. “You look beautiful.”

He'd given out many compliments over the course of the evening, but this was one of the few he truly meant.

For his part, Liesel was dressed no differently that he was during inter-planetary meetings and other formal events. He wore a short red jacket with coattails, over a black waistcoat, over a white silk shirt with a black ascot. His fitted pants were white, as were his formal gloves. His black boots rose to the knee and sported a two-inch heel. He'd gone without the top-hat often expected of distinguished gentleman, thinking it a foolish and unnecessary addition. Part of his long blond hair was twisted into a braid around his head; the rest fell down his back in a curled tail. It was the closest he could get to wearing his hair loose without it being deemed inappropriate.

Altais fidgeted happily underneath the new and more stiff formal clothing that Crims had found him. His outfit kind of matched Crims, all for the colorful vest that would match with Elu's dress and the dragonfly cuffs and neck piece that clearly noted him as a certain someone's date.

Though he was the senshi of Altais, he was strictly here to have fun with Elu! And was very much thrilled to be part of Denebola's entourage.

To Crims, He slapped the man on the back playfully. "Yes! Have fun, Tell your pretty date Ahe, that I look forward to meeting them!" The name was only thrown in because well...it had been passed around.

Then he bounded off to find Elu. Once he had, he stopped to admire her attire. The dress complimented her and her bright red hair among all the others. Really, to him, she was the only one that stood out.

"Eluuuuuuuuu." He sang out, coming to stand in front of her. "You look amazing!"

"Yes! Well I am glad you are here, because that means I have someone to dance with! Though Ahe is coming too, and I expect to steal them away for some dancing as well." The light twins would be such a delight to see on the floor, she thought.

"Thank you!" She came back out and twirled for him, her long black hair swirling with the dress. "Fitting no? Of the Senshi of Aurora Borealis!" She came close and placed a hand on his vest. "Do I get a dance, Handsome Alphonse? Tonight on the ballroom Floor?"

It had taken the woman a minute to spot the man she'd asked to accompany her, because she was so accustomed to his senshi garb that she hadn't expected to be taken aback with the way he looked. Blue eyes drifted across his suit appreciatively, a smile spreading across her lips at the sight of him.

"Altais, you look so handsome," she breathed, pleased that Crims had been careful to assure that they would match even if he refused to let her see what Al would be wearing. She reached out without thinking, hand smoothing the front of his coat, trailing down his chest when she looked at him, head tilted and gaze fond.

"We should find more reasons to get you all dressed up," she teased, cheeks flushing under his compliment. "Thank you, I never thought-- the dress is so lovely, so personalize and you, you look so dashing." Her gaze had dipped to admire the rest his outfit before she met his gaze. "Thank you, for agreeing to come with me. I haven't-- I haven't been off Denebola since you left and-- having you makes things easier."

Aw shucks, she was complimenting him on his clothes and he didn't think he looked nearly good as all the others in here, but most especially her. His hair unfortunately was still the messy blonde, but at least the loose strands that fell below were tucked into a braid that was tucked in the back of his head. So it wasn't TOO bad.

"No no, It's toooooo stiff." He straightened up, "Crims gave me some brief...pointers though..." He looked around and then bent back down, "I can't dance though...soo....um, can you help me with that?" Also he didn't know what the customs of Balls were, like did he dance with whoever asked? Or did he hang out with Elu? Cause the second option was his first option but he didn't wanna embarrass her or Crims.

"I would only come for you!" He said simply, and happily. "Are you okay? Is this okay?" He looked at her, "I won't let anything happen to you, just so you know!"

The senshi of Thrymr was much too excited about the ball for a variety of reasons, though every part of their countenance suggested a calm, relaxed demeanor. A smile was on the pale face, pale lashes half lowered demurely as they swept across the floor, draping robes trailing along behind them in varying shades of sunrise. Beneath the gauzy, slightly sheer top layer, a halter-necked gown was looped neatly around their neck, golden jewelry clinking gently with each movement.

They were alone, for now at least. Heli had stayed back with the other attendants on the edge of the ball and left Ahe to commune with the others.

A few smiles were cast this way and that, but Ahe's gaze had found what they were looking for. A tall, imposing man in dark clothes, accented with familiar colors, and Ahe felt a curl of affection twist in their stomach, wrapping up around their heart. They fought the wide, bright smile threatening to overtake their face and pulled the quiet, simple one back, Ahe's hands tucked into their sleeves as they made their way across the room.

"Good evening, honored knight Crims," they said from behind him, eyes sparkling with mischief.
