She stood on the shore watching as her mate was being rowed back to the mainland. He wasn't permitted to stay with her on the isles and wait for their daughters to bloom. V'demhe wasn't overly fond of that fact, but she didn't argue with it either. The sisters had had that rule for some time now and it wouldn't change just because she threw a fit. The young Alkidike stood there watching until she could no longer see Virain's face. Only then did she turn to walk away.
However as she did she felt her ears twitch at the sound of someone speaking. It wasn't to her but it was close enough. V'demhe paused long enough to over hear the conversation telling herself it was just to make sure there was no mention of her mate or her blooms. As if that justified eavesdropping on someone else's conversation.
"So you heard then? The rumors that are making their way north?" One said.
"About the Yaeli? Mhm, I heard they were leaving their island." The other responded.
V'demhe hadn't gone with the extremists to see them off, so she hadn't gotten to see the Yaeli but she'd heard all about them. The natives to the island weren't exactly bringing out the welcome baskets when the others arrived. They seemed to be more to themselves than anything, which wasn't such a bad idea. They missed all the wars and battles that Tendaji seemed to be so fond of. Reports of their appearance hadn't really surprised her either. Glowing eyes and all. In truth she was surprised more earthlings didn't have glowing parts. The forest and plant life around them glowed, so why not?
"They aren't leaving they are fleeing. There is something evil on that island." Came the first voice.
This made V'demhe draw closer, curiosity getting the better of her. What could be on that island that was so evil? More importantly, why leave now? Why not before? And then she remembered.. they'd just dumped extremists on their land. A cringe passed her features and she sighed. Well there was that. She was sure there was enough hate in the extremists hearts to create something evil on that island.
"They say that there is a creature that claws it's way out of the earth. It has oil black skin and glowing evil eyes."
A shiver ran down Dem's spine at this. How much of it was true though? Could it be that Aselia had summoned something? They had sent a mystic to the island of Yael with hate in her mind and heart. Could she have fractured so badly at being completely shut out? Turning she looked out into the horizon. "Oh.. Aselia..." Emotion choked her voice. "I delayed my trip to see you for too long didn't I?" She worried.
V'demhe had planned to go after the young mystic to try and speak to her. To show her that love was stronger than any hate and prejudice. But things prevented her from going right away. Mostly it had been her love for Virain and now.. she had two lotuses. An emotional pain gripped her chest as she thought about it. "You will never be able to ask Aisha for a child... I am sorry." Guilt seemed to lay on her shoulders.
If it really had been her mystic that had summoned the evil creatures then she would need to make a trip to Yael soon. It would, however, have to wait until after her daughters bloomed. She couldn't leave them.
"Do you think the extremists had anything to do with it? I mean.. they were pretty angry.." The conversation behind her kept on even though she was hardly paying attention.
Turning sharply she glared at the sisters. "Don't even think that! If we start thinking that then there is no hope for them!" Dem yelled. Of course she was being a hypocrite. Hadn't she just thought the same thing? Thought it of someone she knew, no less. The sisters looked at her with confused expressions and it only seemed to make her more angry, both at them and at herself. "There is no way one of our sisters would do such a thing!" By now she was shaking.
"Whoa, easy V'demhe, it was just a thought."
"Well don't think it! We have to believe there is good in them still." That they can be saved and brought back home. As the two other Alkidike moved on, whispering to themselves and eyeing her oddly she gave a frustrated growl and kicked at the ground. Turning her eyes toward the horizon once more she screamed. "Damn you Aselia! You better not have anything to do with this..." Her voice cracked toward the end as she felt her throat grow hoarse.
