It was still something of a surprise to be contacted by a lower ranked officer asking for training. She was getting used to it, slowly.

This Chrysocolla was not someone she had met before, but from what she gathered, she was close with Amphitrite. The mint-haired corrupt they'd picked up last year had done well for herself thus far in the Negaverse, was even proving herself a reliable agent. If this girl was recommended by her, she had high hopes for her.

Since the girl was super ranked, Cin had arranged for their meeting to be in Negaspace, near Cin's own rooms. The room she had appropriated, she'd cleared out of most of its furniture and brought the mats she'd used to keep in her old apartment to lay down on the floor. It was the safest here, for the two of them, to practice combat without risk of being interrupted by nosy White Moon idiots.

Water bottles stood by the door with a pair of hand towels and beside that, Cin had discarded her heavy leather coat with its chains and fur collar. It left her in her body suit and tall boots, going through some stretches while she waited for the Super to arrive.

Chrysocolla was only barely on time -- honestly, she looked more tired than she had any right to be, hair thrown into a messy ponytail with a definitely unmagical hairband. All the same, she waved when Cinnabar came into view, cheeks only going vaguely ruddy because -- wow. Um. That was...quite an outfit! It really accentuated the General's...everything.

"Sorry, um -- General Cinnabar, right? Sorry I'm late, the alarm on my phone didn't go off and then I -" Well. Then she shut her mouth abruptly. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling...! Amphitrite said you were really good at training, and I've, um...I've been having a lot of trouble with Order lately. My magic's not really that reliable, so I figured I'd see if I could learn a little about fighting so I'm not..." Chrysocolla scuffed her shoes on the ground, looking down. "...so I'm not as useless. So I don't drag down people when I patrol with them."

Cin heard the voice as she was stretching, her body twisted to the side to loosen the muscles that ran from shoulders to hips. As ever, she was glad of whatever magical properties her magically created clothing had that kept her... assets contained while still allowing her freedom of movement. It didn't look like much, just leather and chain, but it was amazing material and not horrible to be stuck in for the rest of the foreseeable future.

Releasing her stretch, the general turned to catch side of a head of teal hair and bright eyes, her own red-black ones blinking slowly before her mouth curved in something of a welcoming smile.

"You must be Chrysocolla. Come on in. First things first: stop trying to make excuses." There was enough amusement in her voice to take the shop edge off what could have been a reprimand and Cin dropped her arms to braced her hands on her wide hips. "Apologizing once is enough, I don't need to know the series of events that led up to it. Be sure it doesn't happen again and I'm satisfied."

She waved a hand finally, indicating the space opposite her.

"Its good that you're brave and humble enough to ask for more training when you need it, rather than assuming you can scrape by on your own. Most are too prideful to do the same. I know I certainly was, back when I was a lieutenant. Come here and tell me about your magic and what training you've already had, so I know what we're starting out with. I don't care how little you might have had, I just don't want to go over things you already have down."

The general's tail swung in lazy curls behind her, comfortable and relaxed.

"Sorry, sorry -" Chrysocolla flushed in embarrassment, dropping her head - "I know I apologize too much, sorry, I'm trying to work on it...b-but it won't happen again, I promise!" Her voice was half-shrunken into a whisper, even if the humiliation was all self-inflicted. Great job, self, your very first meeting with the general Amphitrite told you about and you screw it up, you absolute idiot --

But. That was in her mind. This was here and now. She moved, meekly, to the space Cinnabar had indicated, forcing her hands down to her sides despite the urge to fidget.

"My magic messes with people's emotions -- but it's...not really reliable. I think it might just go off their subconscious? At first level, they can throw it off if they're aware it's happening...but, um, the second level means it won't wear off until around twenty seconds have passed. I...don't like using it in fights very much. And I, um -" another embarassed breath - "Amphitrite always seems busy, so I've learned a little from her, but I don't want to bother her...so I haven't learned too much. Mostly just...stance. How to stand. How to throw a punch, really basic things."

"Stop apologizing." Cinnabar said, her voice and face firm. "Resist the urge to do so. You are a Negaverse agent, that makes you above the normal people of this city. Apologizing is not for you, do you understand? Metallia has made you better than that and not living up to what she has given you is like throwing it back in her face. You're not in trouble, so stop."

Hands braced on her hips, the half-youma watched as Chrys took her place across from her, noting the lack of confidence in the way she moved and the way she stood. That would be the hardest part of this. The only way to be an effective fighter was to know your abilities. Their strengths and weaknesses, and act on that. Make judgements based on it. Doubting yourself was a sure-fire way to lose.

Giving her the confidence she needed would be critical.

"Distractions can be effective battle techniques if they are used properly, at the right moment, and you take advantage of the opportunity it gives you. Magic doesn't all have to be offensive." Settling into her own stance. Feet apart, she raised her hands up, fingers curled, but open. "Now... show me your stance. We'll work through the basics and then go from there."

...

Instruction from Cinnabar was hard, but patient. She ran through blocking maneuvers and defensive stances, showing Chrysocolla how to counter different punches, grabs and holds. She didn't snap at her for fumbling or making a mistake, but firmly corrected her, making her run through it over and over until she could do it properly a few times. She explained, as well, the why of it and the how. Why it worked, how it worked, and when to use it.

"Part of this is muscle memory... not needing to think about it and just do it. The other part is knowing how it all works so you know what you need to do." She said while they trained.

By the time she called a pause to it, she was sure the young girl was worn out from the activity. Straightening up, Cinnabar braced her hands on her hips, a smile curving over her face.

"That's not a bad start." She said as she let Chrysocolla relax. "We can work on cementing those moves next time, though I expect you to continue practicing them on your own."

There was a pause, and then she tilted her head, considering.

"I want you to try your magic on me now." Cinnabar said. "I'd like to see what it does for myself."

Shaking out her muscles, she settled back to wait, her arms and hands loose at her sides.

I skipped ahead, if that's okay <3

For a terrifyingly brief moment, Chrysocolla almost looked like she was about to cry from facing Cinnabar's firm statements, eyes shimmering - but she swallowed it down, squared her shoulders, and stepped into position. "I...I understand, General." Determination glinted in her eyes, and then -- then the instruction started. And she moved in accordance.

...

When a stop was called, Chrysocolla was panting, skin slicked with sweat -- but she did look notably more confident than she had before, even if it was the most subtle of shifts in the way she held herself. More comfortable, maybe.

"I'll practice," she nodded firmly - breathe in, breathe out - until her breathing was regular again. "Um, okay -- this is the more powerful version...I don't really use the first level anymore, since people can throw it off, and that's not really any good." A deep breath - "Warhol Mood Refraction-" and her hands were filled with an elastic globe of energy that she pressed into Cinnabar's arm, watching it dissolve into the older woman's skin. "Twenty seconds as far as duration goes. Effect isn't consistent."

Whimsical Blue
IM SO SORRY THAT BOTH THIS TOOK A LITERAL WEEK AND ITS SO SHORT...
ATTACK: it temporarily reverses the enemy's primary emotion for twenty seconds; i.e., bravery to cowardice. Unlike Warhol Mood Reversal, this attack cannot be shaken off prior to the natural timeout.

It was interesting to note that Chrys seem to have to touch her to activate her magic. The ball of energy didn't fly at her, it was pushed. It was a critical weakness... what happened if it didn't make contact? She could think of a handful of different counters to that move...

The energy sank under her skin and all of a sudden, Cin's face crumpled and she drew back away from the senshi. Her shoulders, once square and pushed back, hunched now and her brows drew together in a worried frown.

"Are you sure it only lasts twenty seconds?" She said, her voice thin. Her thick fingers wove together in front of her chest, her teeth worrying her lower lip. What... what was this feeling? It was... chilling and seemed to leech all the strength out of her limbs. She took a step away from the corrupted as she felt eyes on the back of her neck. A furtive glance showed nothing, but blank walls, as it had been before, but she couldn't shake the feeling.

"Maybe... maybe we should stop, just for now..." The general offered as she glanced at the door, wondering if there was ever the possibility of feral youma escaping the rift into the Citadel proper. Big ones... ones like Baal, the youma that had eaten her as a lieutenant. What if they came here? What if she couldn't command them, what if they wouldn't listen to her? None of the youma liked her... they barely tolerated her command as it was.

Ugh... if this was the magic, she disliked it immensely. She had never been worried about being attacked by youma before...

"Is it working? How much longer? Did... did I do it right? The training, I mean?" God, what was wrong with her... she hated this feeling. She remembered it... it was like she'd gone back in time to a younger, more innocent self. Back when she had been with her boyfriend... when her life had fallen apart for the first time. She hated remembering that time... it was like everything she had worked for, everything she had gained, was just gone... like she hadn't done enough to earn truth redemption. Was that why she felt like this? Was this really how she felt, down under all her false bravado? This part of her... this part was weak, and now someone had seen it. It was going to get out and then she would lose everything again.

Who wanted a General who was as weak as she was?

To her credit, Chrysocolla only looked mildly guilty when the General's posture did a 180 and she shrunk away. She was -- almost starting to get used to this. To what it did to people when they expected it. That was...well, that didn't vary too much - and even though she'd never tell, though -- it did seem to have a tendency to make people drop tidbits of their personality they'd probably wanted to hide.

She smiled meekly at Cinnabar, hands clasped in front of her stomach. "It has to make body contact...I don't really have a throwing arm, so if I'm not up close and personal with my enemy, I don't use it too often. But I never really know what it's going to do, since I can't really tell how people are feeling. And yes, I'm sure it only lasts twenty seconds...I've timed it on other people. Like I said, the first level of my magic is basically the same, but...if they know what's going on, they can ignore the effects." Chrysocolla shifted her weight foot-to-foot, tentative pride glittering in her eyes and in the way her mouth curved.

"We can stop if you want, General. A-and, yes, of course! I feel like I know a lot more now, I mean, as far as combat goes...I'm sorry -" she stumbled over her own words - ('stop apologizing') "- I apologize. I shouldn't have used second-level without asking you first, General." Her cheeks flushed pink with slight embarrassment. "But, um, just talking from experience: I'm not going to say anything about what I see while other Negaversers are under my magic -- I know it shows things people probably don't really want me to see."

Cinnabar shifted and fussed as the magic worked through her. Chrysocolla's words helped, a little, calming her as she worked through separating her true feelings from what the magic caused. She was able to do it, slowly, and she calmed.

"No, no... its okay." She said as she took a deep breath and let it out again. "I can see where this magic could be useful in battle."

Cin ran her hands down her corset and then up to run through her hair, pushing it back out of her face and shaking her head so it feel loose down her back.

"I asked you to use it so I knew what it would do. I can't advise you about how to use it if I don't know its limits and what it actually does." Her voice gained strength and steadied, her shoulders pushing back to their normal upright posture. "I think this would be best used on your most confident and aggressive opponents... remove that confidence and make them far easier to deal with. I would avoid using it against a cowardly opponent... they could end up being far more of a problem than you are prepared for."

Scratching her scalp, she finally dropped her arms and relaxed, feeling the last of the uncertainty fading.

"I can see that teaching you strikes will be important. You'll need to get around their blocking to deliver your magic."

A smile finally settled onto Cinnabar's face as she paced over and grabbed Chrys's shoulder, giving it a bracing squeeze.

"I think that's enough for today though. Come on. My room is next door. You can rest and drink some water before you head home." She said as she directed the girl forward with that hand on her shoulder.

"That makes a lot of sense," Chrysocolla admitted sheepishly, still poised as though she was ready to be shamed - but slowly changing from it, at least, slowly changing her posture to everyday casual. "I used to use it on pretty much everyone, but..if people don't really want to fight me, most of the time it jumpstarts them, and then I end up running away. Um - thanks again for being willing to teach me - I know sometimes I'm not really easy to teach, so..."

With that said, to her credit, she didn't flinch when Cinnabar grabbed her shoulder. "Alright, um - if you say so! Thank you," and she cut herself off there, because otherwise it would devolve into nothing but a stammering series of apologies for existing - and that wouldn't make Cinnabar happy, not when she'd worked so hard with Chrysocolla.

But this...she felt a little better about her chances, now.
