The coffee shop wasn't exactly Basil's ideal spot to spend time, but it was at least somewhere that did not involve a lot of mess and noise. He'd already taken the morning off to take a few hours and read the newest of a series of books he was interested in, but eventually he would have to go back to his actual work.
And, as coffee shops usually went, this one was rapidly becoming rather noisy. Basil's quiet seclusion was being interrupted by large groups of giggling teenagers and loud voices, which were all in the very real danger of giving him a headache.
With a sigh, he collected his things, picked up the coffee he'd gotten, and made his way towards the door. Most unfortunately, however, he'd gone about two steps before, with Basil's head bowed, he ran straight into something - or rather, someone.
Hot coffee spilled out across his chest, and he let out a sound of surprise and annoyance, leaping back with a hiss.

He knew it was logical to expect a string of unfortunate or odd events after having a remarkable one of his own a few nights prior. He was honestly, if not pleasantly, surprised that his unfortunate accident was not his own. He may have had a part in it yes, but at least his shirt and jacket were coffee free, and it was this little blessing Hurst could be thankful for after that baffling night. "Oh dear. That's rather unfortunate, isn't it?" Napkins were seemingly produced out of no where, and offered to the young man. "Sorry about that. Could I offer you a coffee on me, as well? Not literally, of course. My day would just be ruined if coffee stained this Valentino coat." He smiled at the man.

Basil's sweater vest became the unfortunate recipient of a very hot, dark liquid that immediately sank into the tan fabric in a very unflattering splatter pattern. He stared down at this new mess with an expression of annoyance on his face, brows drawing together.
Before he could comment on this, however, a set of napkins appeared under his nose. Basil's head rose, and he gave the man he'd knocked into a quizzical sort of look before accepting them, dabbing gingerly at his sweater. He was relatively certain that it was a lost cost, but it didn't hurt to at least try.
"It's all right," he said, "It wasn't your fault. I should have taken the time to look where I was going."

"And that's why they're called accidents." The man replied good naturedly. "But I insist." He dipped his head back towards the counter. "I'll buy you another, and we can sit down with this one, hm? Just to ensure your entire sweater vest doesn't become coffee colored." Hurst didn't wait for a reply, and instead smoothly slid by Basil to get back in line to order another one, and something for himself.

There was something in the casual, lighthearted tone of the other man's voice that indicated he was not about to back down. Basil thought it pointless to argue, so he simply gave up in trying, and glanced back down at his sweater.
"Well, all right, I - "
But the man had already darted back into line, and Basil's brows drew together, his mouth opening and then shutting again before he stepped in after. He tossed the now empty cup into the trash and went to the counter to get some more napkins.

Hurst returned some minutes later with Basil's previous order in hand. He had glanced at the tag on the cup earlier. "Good choice." He complimented, lifting the cup a bit to indicate. "Got one for myself as well." He lifted the other cup a bit. "Let's find ourselves a seat, hm?" He didn't bother waiting for a reply, and smoothly transitioned into locating a spot. The man located a two-seater table near one of the large windows that just so happened to not be occupied, and placed the cups down. He pulled out a chair and took a seat, leaning back in it. "Been in this city long?" He asked conversationally.

Basil accepted the cup, somewhat reluctantly, in spite of himself, but at least the other man was trying to be polite about it. He opened his mouth to say something about not needing a seat, but it never quite made it out before he was being led to a space near a window.
He hovered awkwardly, then slid into the seat, Basil carefully sliding one leg over his other and wrapping both hands around his warm cup.
"Ah, a while now," he said, taking a sip. "What about you? Oh, I'm Basil, by the way," he added, somewhat belatedly.
