The darkness was thick around him, a misty fog hanging over Destiny City and blurring the tops of the taller buildings. It was cold out; a chill breeze swept through and rustled the leaves of the trees, making the branches creek eerily, most of the stars above blotted out by thick gray black clouds.

Cerussite stood at the base of one tree, green eyes sweeping over the view in front of him, arms wrapped around one his waist to stay warm. The park was mostly deserted at this time of night, quiet and still, and his breath was visible in the icy air.

He shifted restlessly from one foot to the other, then glanced around, wondering if he would run into anything tonight or if he'd wind up going back home with having just taken a simple, easy patrol for once.

The energy signature wasn't going anywhere fast. From a distance, Eurydike realized that - and he could tell it was a weaker one. Probably less experienced, which suited him just fine. He'd had one too many close encounters with the bigger fish, and he still had the scars to show for it.

Still. Even in his less experienced days, he generally didn't just... stand there and wait around, unless this guy was waiting for back-up? A patrol partner? Possible, but he didn't sense any other power signatures.

Fine by him. Take out the ones he could, save someone for the night, seemed like basic logic to him. Make the city a little safer for the night.

The breeze was unpleasant, even with the whole magical-warming thing or whatever the ******** it was. His toes weren't red and numb, but it was still uncomfortable and made it toga-thing swish around in all the worst ways. He tried to get closer the sneaky way, creeping and moving slow, but... let's face it, the other guy could probably sense him anyway, and he was s**t at being sneaky. Just a fact. Guns blazing was what he did best.

So he accepted it, and wordless at least, the super senshi just flat out rushed him, hoping to tackle him and pin him to the tree or something.

He felt the power signature briefly, just out of the corner of his senses, but Cerussite was slow to react. Still not used to feeling them in the first place, it took him too long to realize just what it was - and by the time he had, it was already too late.

His breath escaped him in a sharp gasp, Cerussite's back crashing into the tree he stood near. Pain ricocheted up and automatically he pushed out, arms swinging in an attempt at pushing whoever it was off, and Cerussite staggered back, gripping his wand.

"Who - who are - " he started to say, and then stopped abruptly, because he recognized them. It was the man from before, the one who'd known his name, the one who had - could he even say save? It hadn't really been saving, had it?

(It had, insisted a part of his mind, but - )

"Who are you?" Cerussite said, voice coming out stronger than he felt.

Eurydike snarled, his eyes flashing to the wand the lieutenant clutched in his hand, making a mental note to keep track of it.

Although seriously like, what was this guy planning to do with that exactly? Stake him like a vampire? For ******** sake, he wasn't the goddamn senshi of vampires. Then maybe it'd actually do him some good. (As if.)

The guy was stumbling. Unsure. But probably because Eurydike had just totally gotten the drop on him. "Eurydike. Senshi of salt, " he introduced roughly - and he made as if to grab the officer's collar and drag him in, face contorted in a snarl. "An' you are? - how many people you drain tonight, huh, you ********' leech?"

The wand, sadly, was relatively ineffective - and altogether pointless. Cerussite's face was flushed with embarrassment, with shame, and he took a step back, reeling in a breath. He didn't want to think about how this was the one who had been there twice already for him in one way or another.

Think of Logan, he told himself desperately. Think of why you're doing this.

A startled squeak escaped as he was yanked forward, and Cerussite struggled against the senshi's grasp, kicking out with his good leg while his fingers attempted to pry his hand away from his collar.

"None - none of your business!" he managed to get out. "And I'm not a leech!"

Was it the upgrade that was making this easier, from senshi to super? - or was this guy just weak for an officer? Whatever the case may be, Eurydike just surged forward, attempting to slam the guy's back into the tree to force him into submission.

It didn't matter why. What mattered was getting one of these people off the street for the night.

"Uh, let's see - d'ya ********' take s**t that ain't yours' an' give jack s**t in return? - then yeah, you're a ********' leech, " he snarled, irrationally annoyed that even this p***k was taller than him; he himself stood taller, trying to seem more imposing. Thraen had a natural advantage that way. Wasn't really fair. "I asked for a name. Or what, are you a ********' name leech too, huh ginger spice??"

He was not a fighter. Cinnabar had told him that this would make him stronger, that he would be able to hold his own, but he hadn't had much of a chance to work on that. He had not yet gained the experience necessary for him to move faster, and the Cerussite felt his back hit the tree with a painful crack of bark.

"It's not - " he stammered, trying to remember what he had been told about being confident in his own abilities, about knowing he was in the right. " - it's not stealing. You make it sound like we're doing some terrible thing, but we're not. We're just - helping."

His foot swung out, Cerussite aiming for his knee.

"My name's Cerussite," he said breathlessly, desperately. "Not - not ginger spice."

Eurydike recoiled for a second, if only because he was taken aback by the lieutenant's words - not in the way Cerussite might've hoped for, more about to laugh than go through any big reform, but it was enough for that kick to find ground and send a jolt of pain through his knee. "Oh you goddamn sonuva- !!" he began to sputter out, backing up a little out of need for a few seconds before snarling.

"Helpin' who, yourselves?!" he snapped, and this time, he was aiming a swing of his fist at the officer's face.

The incredulous look on the senshi's face was almost comical - but then it transformed into something else as Cerussite's foot connected with his leg and sent him staggering back. A sense of mingled pride and embarrassment swept through him, and he hastily shoved himself away from the tree, feet slipping in the snow.

"Helping everyone," he said, a pleading note in his voice, and Cerussite staggered, the senshi's fist barely missing the majority of his face. It still managed to slam into his jaw, however, and he gave a cry, pain exploding across his face as he staggered. A hand flew up automatically, pressing against the swelling skin, and Cerussite swung a leg again, attempting to drive his knee into the other's stomach.

"This is the way it's supposed to be," he gasped out. "This is - we're being good, we're fighting against the bad guys."

What exactly was he pleading for? - who pleaded to enemies? What exactly was this guy's angle? Tryin' to make himself feel better about bein' a piece of s**t, that's what. Tryin' to catch me off guard and hit me hard, also possible. He knows he's weaker.

Man, though, did it ever not feel good to hit something? (Don't answer that question, it felt good right now, live in the moment.)

Eurydike tried to sway out of the way, but the knee hitting ribs, while it wasn't as bad as stomach, hey lo and behold that s**t still hurt. He grunted and backed up a bit, although his sandals slipped in the snow, too. Goddamn lousy footwear. "Hate to break it to you Ginger Ale, but you are the bad guy!" and ******** subtly; he just went ahead and made to tackle the ******** class="quote">

The unfortunate part of kneeing someone in the ribs was that the momentum carried Cerussite forward still after, so that he staggered ungracefully, his feet skidding to try and keep his balance. But it seemed not to matter, because hands were grabbing him, and the senshi was barreling into him like battering ram.

Cerussite gave a sharp cry of surprise and fear. His back slammed against the ground, the wind knocking out of him, and an immediate sense of cold shivered all the way from his legs to the top of his head, snow sinking into his uniform and chilling him.

"I'm not," he managed to gasp out, and pushed up, knee against the man's stomach, hands bracing against his shoulders. "I'm not the bad guy, I'm - "

He swallowed hard, his chest throbbing.

"I'm - doing good - "

"You keep ********' tellin' yourself that - " Eurydike snarled at the way he was being propped up like that, irritated not for the first time that this ******** had some height on him, enough to make that easier. But it was fine. Even with his knees sinking into the snow, bare and bound to be reddened by the time he got up. It was fine. This would not take long.

" - but for now - !" He just had to take his out of commission for the night. So he aimed to do it, swinging a blow at the kids' face, aiming just to go ahead and knock him right out if he could. Or at least send him scurrying back for the night. That would work too.

He should have expected it - and yet he hadn't. He'd gotten too concerned over things that he shouldn't have, and wasn't watching out the way that he knew he should have. Cinnabar had taught him how to defend himself, after all.

The crashing blow to his face sent stars exploding in his vision, and Cerussite dropped instantly. His legs gave way, his body folding, and although he was still conscious, it was just barely so, his entire body sagging as he fell forward.

He was dimly aware of the fact that he would have to find a way to explain this to Hitch, and the thought did not bring him comfort.

Eurydike cracked his knuckles after it was said and done. He wasn't totally sure why, but it didn't really feel as satisfying as it should have. Not like the time he'd beamed that other dickbag in the face with the bottle. (That'd been awesome, for the record, and totally deserved.) Maybe that's what it was. This guy was just so small and puny, even if he was taller than Eurydike... and he obviously didn't know what the ******** was really going on. Obliviously brainwashed, conditioned, something like that. Bunch of bullshit, really.

The guy was conscious, at least... disabled, but aware, however vaguely. That was enough. The salt senshi turned on his heels and walked away without looking back.

Didn't mean it was the last he thought of Cerussite, though.
