The Tinkerer examines his machine closely, and claps. "It's finally ready! We finally have enough joy! Wonderful! Now, we just need to head head head to a suitable location and activate the machine!"

Relocated to what might be called a safe distance from the encampment, the Tinkerer looks around. "Is everyone here here here? Good! Let's begin!" The Tinkerer reaches down and activates the Generator. The snowflakes inside begin to dance and fly around inside the globe as the Generator begins to shine brightly. "It's working! It's really working!" The ground begins to rumble beneath your feet, and the Generator shoots a beam of light into the sky.

Suddenly, there is a crack. The Tinkerer looks for the origin of the sound. The Generator was shaking. A crack formed in the glass. "No! There's too much joy!" The Tinkerer presses his hands against the globe, trying to hold it together as the cracks spread. "It's not able to hold, hold, hold it! Everyone get back! It's overloading!!!"

A brilliant flash of light consumed the Tinkerer, and his screams were lost to the deafening sound of the Joy Generator exploding. When your eyes adjust back to the gloomy woods, the Tinkerer is gone, and shards of the Generator lay scattered across the clearing. Still dazzled from the light, you hear a chuckle. The chuckle slowly transforms into deep guffaws of laughter that echo through the trees. Turning your eyes to face the source of the laughter, you see a monstrous human, garbed in red and white, standing over ten feet tall and clutching his swollen belly as he laughs. His eyes are bulbous, and a beard of icy tendrils hangs from his red cheeks. A massive hammer made of ice appears in the creature's hand, and he aims a strike at the ground, shaking the earth. The sky darkens and the air grows frigid. "Ho, ho, ho."

The Joyful One

HP: 100%

The Joyful One puts his hands on his bulbous belly and turns his laughter to the sky. A column of mist rises from his mouth and begins to collect into a cloud of icy crystals above the group. Slowly, the crystals begin to grow larger, and soon there are massive spikes of ice in the sky. They begin to rain down like frozen razor blades.

Alyx followed the Tinkerer out into the woods, and he watched as the joy generator began to overload. "I've... I've got a bad feeling about this..." As the Joy began to consume the Tinkerer, Alyx cautiously armed himself with gloomguard, drawing Gloomshard from the sheathe hidden in his shield's inside face. The Tinkerer began to glow and grow in size until he became a grotesque, gigantic humanoid. He began to chuckle, and that chuckle began turning into insane guffaws that shook the air around them. As that laughter turned skyward, a cloud of ice began to form above them. As the crystals began to grow larger, Alyx realized what was happening. "Look out! Cover!"

Flight of the Gloomrabbit

Rota had followed the Tinkerer with Alyx, and hoped that the Joy Machine would do something very interesting and cool. He didn't know why he hoped that, but old habits die hard. When the machine exploded and made a festive juggernaut the likes of which he had never seen before, all he could do was laugh. If it wasn't one thing, it was another lately, so he decided to take it all in stride. As he smiled, his mouth began to glow red hot and flames eked out the corners of his mouth. He had lightly delved into the true function of his newfound breath, and it began to manifest in his daily life now. He still had to use it properly proactively, but it was an extra little flourish to himself that felt primal, untamed, and ready to burst at the proper moment. He saw the father christmas blow ice into the sky, and busted out an old tried and true method to stay light on his feet. His shins to his feet wreathed in soft black light as he made his way to the being, much faster than he should with the kind of armor that he was wearing. He was more battle worn than this creature. he would win. Rota stopped short of the creature and brought Neo Abyssian from his left ankle to above his right shoulder. His strikes needed to be decisive.

Rota's blade bit into the Joyful One's belly, but didn't seem to dampen his spirits much. The large shards of ice crashed into ground and shattered against the earth, showering them with smaller particles of ice, which were harmless on their own. He was still booming with laughter as he swept his massive hammer toward Alyx, the air humming as the hammer smashed its way through wind resistance.

Alyx raised his shield and the effect of his arte took hold. There was a subtle woosh as Alyx' feet were rooted into the earth. One could almost see a force pressing his stance down to give him traction. His shield raised and locked into position with another woosh, and caught the shard that had fallen to strike him. The size of a small child, the icicle shattered against his defense, and the powdered ice dispersed harmlessly around him. As the shower of ice spread around them, Alyx saw the Joyful One aiming a strike with his hammer at the Gloomking. Alyx lowered his shield from his vertical block and locked it into position, that small shockwave rippling from gloomguard and his feet again as he stood ready to absorb the monstrous humanoid's attack.

Breath of the blacksmith, Double Strike LV 12

Rota had hit his mark, but the impact had been barely felt. Laughed off in fact. Well he would make sure that this being would not easily laugh off THIS hit. He sucked air in deep and held Neo Abyssianangled in front of him as the holiday horror bore down on Alyx. Rota concentrated and brought out the aura of a Double Strike that was far beyond the concentration of what was on display in the dungeon. This aura clung very close to the blade, almost shrouding it in its light. It would be far more powerful than it trailing wildly behind its master. He then released a gout of flame up the length of the blade from hilt to tip and watched as the plume clung to the weapon, the aura keeping the circling blaze there. The demon blacksmith had used this technique in their battle, but Rota was determined to perfect it. He brought His flaming blade behind his left ankle once again and struck ankle to over the shoulder onto the beast, the flames trailing behind the whole way and tracing the trajectory of the pain he was causing, but followed up with shifting his grip and slamming the blade straight down in front of him. This would hopefully get the reaction he was looking for.

The Joyful One struck Alyx' shield and his hammer was stopped cold. Rota's burning blade carved deep into his belly, and flames licked the wound, dealing damage to him over time. The Joyful One's laughs became painful, and he began screaming into the sky, as large crystals began collecting in the sky once again.

Alyx' shield resounded with a rich hum as the Joyful One's icy hammer was stopped cold. A blast of wind exploded around him and his cape flapped in the current. The icy crystals around the party were dispersed by the force, and Alyx watched as the Joyful One backed away, staggered by the impact. Rota capitalized on the opening, and struck the jolly maniac with a flaming sword. Alyx stepped back to look around and prepare for the next attack. It looked like it was going to be a repeat of the raining ice spikes, and the Gloomking raised his shield, planting his feet firmly and calling on his arte to strengthen his guard.

Double Strike LV 6

The laughing that rang in Rota's ears was no longer as genuine as before, and that was all the signal Rota needed to try and seal the deal. Despite the icicles falling from the air, he needed to keep attacking this joyful beast if he they were going to make it out of this. The fire in his chest had grown significantly colder, but wasn't fully extinguished. He just didn't have enough heat to pull that trick off again. That was fine. He still had enough gusto to clean this sizable plate. Using the ending position of the last strike, the flames spiraled away in decay revealing the blood red aura underneath. Having a new independent wellspring of power had changed the way his artes looked. This prospect had excited him when he realized that. Embers flew from his mouth as he hefted his blade with a roar and slashed upward from the resting position to above his head. The aura, being a lesser form than the previously manifested one, trailed behind but not by much. The twin blades, astral and non, sang through the chilled air in a harmony of death to all that opposed their wills.

The Joyful One suffers another horrible wound from Rota, and seems to decide that the demon was becoming too much of a pain to leave free. Drawing in a powerful breath, collecting all of the crystals in the air, the Joyful One releases a terrible roar of laughter, icy mist exploding from his mouth. The cloud races toward Rota, terrible and frigid.

Alyx bashed the crystal aside, and it shattered around him. The tiny crystals of ice began racing past him, cutting his exposed skin as they flew toward the Joyful One's open mouth. Once they had gathered, they were expelled explosively toward Rota. Alyx didn't know what was going to happen if that cloud of ice hit Rota, but he did not want to find out. Running as quickly as he could, he tried to put himself in the path of the attack, activating his arte and planting his feet as solidly as he could under the circumstances. The mist closed the distance quickly, and he braced for impact.

Despite putting his all into that attack, the festive juggernaut refused to fall. Shards of ice fell from the sky and buried themselves deep within the demon's armor and flesh. No matter. Rota had taken bigger hits in his short time here, and he had all the time in the world to kill this thing properly. However, now the beast was sending some kind of flurry his way, or at least starting to. Thinking on his feet, he brought his sword behind his body from being completely vertical and with a roar that showed his inner fire's potential he aimed the flat of Neo Abyssian square at the right cheek of the joyful one. Hopefully that would knock whatever he had planned off course just enough to not hit him or Alyx. He wasn't going to be able to do any damage with this, but hopefully he would gain back some stamina at the very least so he could end this conflict properly.

Only ice damage can penetrate the ice to deal damage to Alyx, and regenerates the ice's hit points. Regular damage inflicted on the ice is dealt at full strength to the ice.

Alyx felt the cloud crash into his shield and flow around him, and he tried to roar, but the sound was stopped short as the mist formed into a solid block of ice around him. He struggled, but was unable to move. He couldn't even turn or close his eyes. He was forced to watch, wide-eyed, as the Joyful One's hammer swept toward him. And he was completely helpless. He fought with every muscle in his virtual body, trying to break free of the ice. This was not a situation that he relished being in for much longer. He just had to get free, and he'd be back in the game.
