Quote: Cosmos, my name is Valhalla. I was told you may be able to help me. My starseed was damaged. I don’t know if this will reach you or if you are even available to speak with me... even if it is to tell me nothing can be done, I would really appreciate meeting with you. I will be at the park near the largest oak tree at midnight tonight. Kind regards, Valhalla. He did not know what else to say. It was strange asking for help from someone he’d never met, but if there was the slimmest chance of being able to find out some information about what was to become of him, he would take it.
Valhalla waited nervously at the designated place, sitting below the branches of a large oak tree. He didn’t know if Cosmos even got his message. Maybe she was out of town or sick or doing more important things. Midnight was fast approaching, and he was still unable to sense the aura of any powered individuals.

It was still a few moments before midnight when a light appeared in the sky. Though she still had a few minutes to spare, it was easy to follow Cosmos' movement; she fell to the earth like a shooting star, but landed on her feet in all her radiant glory. When the light sparkling around her dimmed, she was looking at Valhalla, examining him. She clutched her staff as she watched him curiously. "You look nervous, Valhalla," she murmured. Slowly, she approached him, glancing towards his chest and the starseed held inside. "…You do not need to fret. I am here, and I will answer what I can." She did not promise that she could help him, but she was willing to try. She did not seem like she had time to waste, though, and jumped right into the conversation: "Your starseed was damaged. What happened?"

Valhalla wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but he certainly didn’t think a person would come down from the sky as this woman did. He stared at her in awe and disbelief, his hope in that she may be able to help him grew again. It was dangerous to be hopeful, he knew, but when she appeared as she did…
When she spoke, he scrambled to his feet, nervously brushing off his clothes as if there were a sudden accumulation of dust. “Sorry, I didn’t expect…” he started and then quickly shook his head, realizing that she may not have a lot of time.
“I was almost corrupted. General Queen Laurelite put her hand in my chest. I… think I could feel myself changing…” he explained, although it was obvious that his memories were fuzzy, if there at all. “Ganymede stopped it. She used her crystal… I… I lost my memories. Not my memories as Valhalla, but my normal memories. And my magic doesn’t work… I can’t feel auras… I didn’t know my starseed was damaged until it was taken out during a fight…”

Cosmos watched him with a careful expression, one brow raised. She was contemplating what he didn't expect, but she did not speak until he had finished answering her question. She nodded, slowly. "How damaged is it?" she asked, carefully. "…It must be in a stable enough condition. You are walking, talking. Even just standing here would be too much of a feat if it were too affected. She took a step forward and reached out, as if she intended to touch the starseed, but paused and lowered her hand. Then, she stood a little taller. "Are you asking me to heal it?"

Valhalla watched nervously for Cosmos's reaction. He didn't want to get his hopes up if nothing could be done, but if there was something then hopefully she would know what to do. "I'm not sure," he admitted quietly when she asked how damages it was. "I was told there was a crack, but I'm not sure how deep or what caused it." He paused, hesitant as he continued. "When Ganymede... my wife... saved me from being corrupted... would it have been her magic that caused it to crack?"
Part of him wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer. In his heart he believed it was his own doing, from trying to fight off the chaos that was turning his clothes black and corrupting him from the inside out, but he knew Ganymede was scared that she had been the one to cause the damage. Maybe his starseed was just weak.
"Hvergelmir said it was leaking energy," he tried, wanting to offer as much information as possible, hoping that it would help. "It hurts the most when I power up into Valhalla. After that, it's not so bad... but I can always feel it. Like something is trying to choke me but I can still breathe. I get lightheaded often. Sometimes it hurts worse," he recalled, remembering how many times he tried to hide how it affected him from Paris, lest she worry more.
His eyes widened when she asked if he wanted her to heal it, and he drew in a small breath of hope.
"Can you do that?" he asked breathlessly. Hver said Cosmos might be able to do something, but Babylon had been convinced the only thing that might help is sending his starseed back to the Space Cauldron to be reborn... which was not and option for him at the time.

Cosmos shrugged; she did not know her full capabilities, but she was willing to try. She moved to place her hand lightly over Valhalla's chest and seemed to think. "Yes," she said after a moment. "It feels like it is damaged. A crack would make sense. I can feel the energy bubbling out. That cannot be comfortable," she said, though she might have just been talking to give him some sort of comfort while she tried to examine what she could of a starseed she couldn’t bring out. "It seems more likely that the Chaos would have cracked it," she said, but her brows furrowed as she tried to read further. "…But I cannot tell. The more energy that passes over it though, the more it is hurting? It is the only explanation I can think of, for why it might hurt more when you power up. " Now, she almost seemed like she was stalling for time; she didn't want to give up, but even when she pushed her light, bubbly energy towards the starseed as if she would in a purification, it didn't seem to be responding the same way. She didn't want to tell him that she couldn’t help him, but right now… She was struggling to think of some other way she could help.

Valhalla held still as Cosmos placed her hand against his chest. He could feel the warm energy from her hand flowing into him, and he closed his eyes for a few moments. It was almost like an anesthetic, soothing the ache he’d grown used to over the months. It was almost like the shawl Hvergelmir let him borrow for a little while.
“You can’t fix it, can you,” he said softly as he opened his eyes again, but he didn’t look like he was upset with her. He had tried so many things and asked so many people, that he’d already come to terms with what might happen to him.
“Do you know how long I might have left…?” he wondered, his voice still soft and not at all accusing. He appreciated what she’d already done for him. She didn’t have to come and meet him, but he did want to find out how long he had left to live if there wasn’t a way to fix his starseed.

Cosmos was quiet for a long moment and slowly shook her head. "I cannot. I am sorry." It took her longer to answer the next question, but once more she shook her head. "I cannot give you an estimate. The more you strain yourself, the more likely it is that you're going to wear yourself out, though. You must be very careful. I do not know if there are those among your ranks that might be able to help. But do not give up hope," she insisted. "…And do not fear." Her voice was sympathetic and her hand finally fell from his chest. "I will research. Sometimes, the Cauldron reveals its secrets to me." She would not promise any results, but she would promise to try, at least.

Valhalla tried his best not to seem crestfallen as he felt. He'd hoped that this woman, Cosmos, of all people would be able to help him or give him better answers than others were. It seemed as though not many people have been in the same situation as he was in currently.
Cosmos has done as much as she could for him, and he smiled and gave her a small nod.
"Thank you. I appreciate your efforts, but don't worry if you can't find anything. I've lasted this long..." he started but didn't finish the thought. Even he could tell that his health was deteriorating, no matter what doctor he went to, there were never any conclusive test results. Which meant it had to be his damaged starseed causing his health to decline.
"Thank you," he said again, his smile widening. "It's no wonder people expect you to know everything and be able to do anything, with how you make your entrance," he joked, but didn't want to keep her when she already said she couldn't stay. "Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help you in return."

Cosmos watched him, sympathy in her eyes; she offered him a tired smile, but there was little joy in it. "You owe me nothing, and I would not ask for payment. We are all in this together. Do not lose faith, Valhalla. You have lasted this long, after all. Perhaps you will find your answers." She had a kind demeanor, but she was tired, and disappointed that she could not have been of aid. It reflected plainly on her face and she seemed distraught, for him, despite the fact that she held herself together well. "You must let me know if you discover anything, or if you have other question. I will try to aid you to the best of my ability. And I wish you all the best on your search for healing."

"I will," he promised when she asked him to let her know if he discovered anything. He didn't know what else he would do now that Cosmos didn't have any suggestions. From the back of his mind, something Hvergelmir said to him surfaced. If he needed to, he could always have someone remove the starseed from his chest to inspect it. He was sure it would be dangerous, and he didn't know if he should put his trust into someone he barely knew, but what other choice did he have?
"Stay safe," he said with another small smile as he took a step back to let her depart. He didn't want to mention his next plan of action to her, because he was sure she had enough to deal with. He'd called her and she answered. That was more than what he probably should have asked of her. Maybe he'd find a way to fix his starseed. If not, he would not regret if he died trying.
