This is a PRP between my Miss Ethel Anne and Richard Head. Please do not post.

The winter was definitely Richard's least favorite time of year. Not only did the frigid temperatures kill his valuable smoking plants, but he stuck out horribly in the stark white snow. He grumbled, lumbering through the forest, pushing steam out of his mouth and nostrils just for fun. He was off to meet up with some of the other boys, who'd likely have some goodies to trade for what smoking plant he was willing to spare before hoarding the rest for the dreary, miserable season.

As he made his way along, green leaves continuously fell from his shoulders, leaving a trail in his wake. The trees rooted to him liked the cold even less than he did, and he rolled his eyes as he focused on giving them more leaves. "Oh, suck it up," he snarled. "It isn't like I'm going to let you die or nothin'." The half 'suti took great pride in his green thumb, and made sure everybody knew it. Plus, the trees were a good source of nutrients when the pickings got slim.

The day was fairly mild for winter: it was cold, but the sun hung high in the sky, unhindered by clouds, and the canopy of the forest had long since thinned with the losing of its leaves. However, somehow, Miss Ethel Anne had stumbled upon something that was simply unheard of. She followed the trail, both eager and confused. How was it, she wondered, that here in the middle of winter, on the snow, no less, lay a trail of beautifully green leaves? After a time, she couldn't curb her curiosity, and she bent down to nibble at one. It didn't seem to taste odd, or poisoned, or even preserved. In fact, it tasted like a perfectly fresh, delicious leaf! Who'd have left these here?!

Suddenly, a thought struck her. Perhaps this was a trap! Maybe someone was trying to kidnap her, or have her for a snack, or use the food as bribery for some treacherous task! She shuttered at the thought. But then again, she was already on this trail, and there seemed to be plenty of leaves... She bent down and plucked up a few more, savoring their flavor and longing for spring.

Increasingly unimpressed by his shedding, Richard stopped to have a serious talk with his trees. He glared at them and blew steam at them both to warm them up, wondering why he didn't just move to the rain forest or something. But he knew why. As little as he liked to admit it, old d**k was settled in and too set in his ways to make a move. He had his own little cave and his own little crop of smoking plants, and he was far too comfortable with that to move and have to start over again. He didn't have much, but what he had meant a lot to him in a twisted way.

Through his glaring eyes, though, he could see something. There, beyond the naked treas and through the sparkling snow, was something just as bright as he was, but... Orange? He saw where the Soquili was, then saw his trail of leaves and rolled his eyes. Oh, great. Not wanting the conflict, he booked it into the thicker brush and evergreens.

The thought of a trap continued to stick in her mind as she followed the trail of leaves, but she figured that once she'd gone a little ways forward, she could always go back. There was plenty of a trail behind her that she hadn't dared touch, and now that she knew it wasn't the food that was the trick, she relaxed. Her ears swiveled as she ate, and something not too far off set off an alarm.

She cocked her head up as quickly as she could, seeing nothing but a flash of green in the distance. This, perhaps, was the end of the trail, and she was walking right into the trap! She reared around and fled immediately from where she'd first come. Man, was that close!
