Personality Overview:
Tarot is a quiet introvert who prefers the secluded lifestyle of a hermit. It's not that she doesn't like people, but she finds most of them to be quite tedious at best. Some are full of questions. If the motives of the questions were purely academic that would be one thing, but then there are some questions that try to ascertain personal motives, and even more that are purely personal inquisitions meant to satisfy curiosity! She doesn't feel like she has anything to hide, but Tarot has just never liked talking about herself. Then there are people who seemed shocked at some of her actions, or, worse yet, feel like they need to "help" her. Try to get her "out into the real world" to interact with "real people." It's easier for Tarot in the long run to just keep people at a distance.

This is not to say that Tarot rejects all company. There are some people who finds interesting enough or who are persistent enough that eventually they do get to know her a bit better to realize that her bark is much worse than her bite. Since it's too much trouble to be stern all the time, especially with any exuberant personalities, one could easily get their way if they can figure out when Tarot means something or when she's just being cantankerous.

It should be noted that while Tarot has more than a bit of trouble in the "relating to others" department, she does make efforts. She does not have a ton of patience, but she saves her more barbed remarks for those she knows and tends to be more polite (if stiff and formal) around strangers. Underneath that crusty, solitary shell there's someone with a generous heart who isn't sure what to do with herself.

Positive and negative traits:
Positives
  • Studious
Tarot loves nothing more than to delve into ancient texts and old handwritten journals full of archaic maunderings. She has the patience and the drive to ferret out information that could satisfy a curious mind or help to solve a problem.
  • Analytical
Tarot doesn't make hasty conclusions. She has a way of thinking that can see straight to the heart of a problem without allowing her feelings or personal opinions to bias her. That goes for the thoughts and opinions of others. Tarot is in it for pure truth and facts.
  • Honest
Tarot rarely lies, if ever. If she doesn't know something, she'll tell you she doesn't know. If you want to know where you stand with her, she'll tell you. She dislikes duplicity, even when someone has good intentions.
  • Steadfast
When Tarot makes up her mind about something, there is usually a great deal of forethought or backstory behind her decision. She does not balk when things look bad, whether it's a field of study, a commitment, or a personal relationship. You can always count on Tarot to see things through.
  • Considerate
While Tarot has many firm opinions, she does not push them on others. Say a friend is prone to telling white lies. She will know better, but she won't call them out because she feels they must have a reason. Even if the reason makes no sense to her, she respects that person's choice. If someone is having scholarly troubles she's willing to help them until they find what they're looking for or understand the problem. She's not much help with personal problems, but she'll listen and offer her insights.

Negatives
  • Distant
Tarot is a true introvert who needs a lot of alone time to recharge. A lot. She gets very absorbed in her studies and tends to forget the everyday life going on around her. She finds it quite difficult to connect.
  • Perfectionist
Tarot likes every little thing just so. A place for everything and everything in its place. Leave no stone unturned. Etcetera. Her determination to have everything just so can cause her to miss out on the little pleasures of life, and she has yet to learn that close enough can be good enough.
  • Blunt
Tarot is not the type to mince words or soften blows. Granted she rarely will give a personal opinion unless asked for it, but once she gets started she doesn't hold back. She's a bit oblivious to the fact that some of the things she says can be insensitive or inappropriate.
  • Apathetic
Tarot doesn't have a very wide range of emotions. Her thought patterns and reactions all tend to be very neat and logical. Emotions are hard for her to grasp, feel, process... It makes it very difficult for her to connect, like there's a glass wall separating her from the rest of the world.
  • Curious
On the surface it might not seem like a bad trait to have, but when Tarot is curious about something she lets nothing stand in her way. She will pursue subjects considered sensitive or anathema, things better left unknown or forgotten.

Likes and dislikes:
Likes
  • Books (informative over pleasure)
  • Alone time
  • Plants
  • Home-cooked meals
  • Puzzles

Dislikes
  • Opinions presented as fact
  • Pretentious or judgmental busybodies
  • People who don't treat books with care
  • Messy surroundings
  • Waste

Hobbies:
  • Meditation
Tarot finds the practice to be good at relaxing her body and mind, and sometimes helps her see things she hadn't before because she was thinking too hard.
  • Gardening
Tarot loves potted plants. She's not exactly a natural and she kills as many as she keeps, but she enjoys trying and resolves to do better.
  • Cleaning
Maybe not what most would think of as a hobby, but Tarot likes her surrounding to be neat and tidy and finds the act of cleaning to be as its own form of meditation. She's gotten to the point where she can tell at a glance if something simply looks dirty or actually is dirty.
  • Puzzles/Brain teasers
Tarot likes to keep her mind sharp, so she always keeps her mind engaged and active so she doesn't lose her mental edge.

A brief overview of their life so far:
Tarot is from the cache. She was awakened and raised at the Academy, where she is (will be) attending classes. She's a naturally quiet and scholarly kid who struggles with social skills.

Tarot's stone was imbued by a solitary Litch, a necromancer with The Black Company. They wanted to leave behind a legacy, since it seemed likely they would die in the war, but they faced the problem of not knowing a safe place to keep her. They were able to strike a deal with an Imp/Geist hybrid; help her imbue a stone of her own, and she would hide both stones in a safe place that she knew about. This is how Tarot's sister Bliss was imbued. Bliss' mother was able to make good on her promise and got both stones safely in the cache before she herself later died in a firebombing raid.

Whether or not they're an orphan from the cache:
    Yes

How their status as an orphan or non-orphan has effected them:
  • IC: Not all that much, to be honest. Tarot is quite rational-minded, so wondering who her parents were or if they might even still be alive are just fantasies that serve no purpose.
  • OOC: With all the infants and freshlings around that need care and the fact that caregivers have to spread their attention thin, Tarot didn't get much focused attention. She's well-behaved and quiet, which helps her blend into the background so that caregivers spend more of their time with needy freshlings. If she'd been given more personalized attention she might not have developed such a hermit complex.

One event that changed their life or effected them:
Stumbling into a library for the first time. The fact that so many people's stories and knowledge could continue to exist long after they were gone to reach untold numbers fascinated Tarot. She spends most of her time either reading and soaking up knowledge or hunting down interesting books in search of particular facts.

How they feel about their race and house:
  • Race
Tarot is equally antisocial with all the races, though she appreciates the Litch value for knowledge and efficiency, and thus does strongly identify with her own race. She might be more willing to take advice from another Litch under consideration than if it came from another race.
  • House
Tarot appreciates Enoch's value of knowledge and precise facts. She finds Eldritch values fascinating, but can't grasp the personal applications. Arkham values fly over her head entirely.

Their goals in life:
  • IC: Tarot wants to be a scholar. She's not sure if she'll have a specialty, though she's quite interested in alchemy. Still, she loves learning and doesn't want to limit herself to just one thing. She's learning as much as she can while keeping all her options open.
  • OOC: Going to try easing into what she does for a living, since her interactions will help shape her. She might be a for-hire type, either for her skills with magic and alchemy or her vast knowledge and ability to ferret out information. I really want to work on her social skills. I'm hoping for her to find that one friend, maybe someone she meets as a freshling and they just grow up together, and while she might find people tedious she has one person to whom she can be close to. Whether it's just friendship or it develops into romance will be decided later, but I would like for her to slowly make more friends as she reaches junior and senior stage. She'll probably always be a loner type, but it would be nice to have a few connections that keep her grounded to the world going on around her.

Quote:
Your Nightmare has just woken up on a day where they have class. What is their morning ritual? How do they get ready?

Tarot squinted against the glare of the morning sun coming in through her window. She could have gotten curtains, but she was a early riser by nature anyway and the sun just helped her to get up at the correct time. She rolled out of bed and took a moment to steady herself as her body woke up, then started to collect her clothes. She groaned a little as she remembered her first class that day was P.E. The freshling Litch much preferred reading a book or making sense of numbers. What was fun about running around or playing games where the rules seemed half-forgotten as soon as the starting whistle sounded? She just didn't see it.

As she walked through the quiet halls, joined by a couple other larks on their way to breakfast, Tarot consoled herself that at least she had math to look forward to that afternoon.

Critique Incoming!!

Appearance:
Everything here looks good!

Backstory:
Everything here looks pretty good! Black Company outlawed having stones for their Necromancer operatives, but it is entirely possible for it to have been done illegally. Tarot will never be able to know that her parent was a BC 'Mancer, and will never know that Bliss is her sibling without getting DNA testing -- the Academy does not do this since it would horrifically expensive, hahaha.

Personality:
Everything here looks good! Thank you for including what you'd like to see happen with her in the future!

Prompt:
Looks good as well!

I'm gonna go ahead and approve this~

Is it a possibility that Bliss' mother could have left a note with the stones explaining they were siblings? I'm not sure how the stones were organized. Just a thought! Neither Tarot or Bliss would know the truth about their Litch parent (since both parents are dead they won't know anything about either parent).

If it's not possible I'm fine with having the girl's not realize they're siblings. I would just have to tweak Bliss a bit. (They'll still probably know each other, but it'll just be ironically so.)

WELL-- its possible that she left a note, but it has been 150yrs since the war ended, and the cache itself is literally just a cavern - the note likely degraded and decomposed over that time. So it's much more logical for them to not know they're related at all. <3
