”You’ve changed,” Jet found himself frowning as he walked ahead of the person he thought he’d be closest to after being left without a family. At one point Jericho had been just as much a brother to him as Sorin. But now, if they didn’t have the Negaverse, he wondered if he would ever see him.

“If your family is so important to you, why don’t you just stay with them. Don’t worry about the Negaverse. I’ve got it covered,” he let out a low hiss as he made his way along the rooftop, trying to pick up on the Order aura he thought he’d felt. After all, he was used to covering for Aquamarine’s quota, so why not continue to make Seraphinite’s quota as well. Energy gathering wasn’t that difficult, and despite feeling as though they’d drifted apart, he was still loyal to him.

——————————

It was too close. The heavy weight of the Negaverse’s auras. There had to be at least two of them nearby. Varuna was tempted to power down, but then she would be completely defenseless. At least this way she had her magic.

The super senshi hid as best she could against the alley wall, hoping that the two Negaverse agents would change their minds about seeking her out. To make matters worse, she could feel another aura approaching, this time one from the Dark Mirror Court.

Soon she would be surrounded, but she wasn’t about to give up without a fight. Varuna lifted her hands, ready to cast her magic the moment she felt threatened.

He told himself. Again and again. He wasn't making some mistake by being there. He wasn't ******** everything up. Seraphinite kept his eyes to the back of the youth before him. Captain. Jericho had been flabbergasted when Ilian had gotten the promotion--especially before him--but ******** hell. He was proud of his best friend. Privately, far away from anyone else, any potential onlookers, any walls that might have eyes and ears... Jericho had grinned. He'd chuckled, thinking of how proud Sorin would have been of Ilian. Little, brat Ilian.

Which was probably why Jet's dismissals were so akin to being punches to the gut. Bladed and deep, it took a hell of a lot for Seraphinite to suppress the grimace. "I'm not leaving you behind."

The words were rougher than he'd meant, and the lieutenant... sighed. Cussed, shook his head a bit. Now wasn't the time. He'd briefly felt the Order signature as well--stronger than him, but not a deterrent. He could also feel another Chaos signature blipping here and there. Dark Mirror, or something? He'd not had the first hand experience with them, but he'd heard about them. "Words don't mean s**t. So just shut the ******** up and let me prove it," he grumbled.

To be fair... he did at least have his quota taken care of. That wasn't much of the problem. It was more... just trying to understand his own place amongst it all. But this wasn't the time or place to dwell, to discuss.

-----

It still felt weird as ******** being out and about there. He was... trying though. Not so much for the family--he couldn't help but think of The Godfather every time he thought of the court like that--but he was running out of excuses to not be out there. To not be searching for... well.

Ok so he had jackshit to look for. But maybe that was the problem.

The sensation of a Super Senshi grazed his mental radar and Loke blinked, looking towards the direction of the Order signature. Last time he'd followed that, it'd lead him to the dragonfly chick. Not the blonde he'd been kinda hoping for.

Second time's a charm?

Pushing off the rooftop, he headed down the street, trying to pick up exactly where the Order senshi was. The sensation of Negaverse energies made the back of his neck prickle and he cussed. "Senshi, look if you can hear me, I ain't an enemy," he hissed, hoping to find them before the agents did. "Where are you? ******** hell..."

The fact that he’d become a Captain before Seraphinite was not beyond him. Part of him hoped that his brother would have been proud. That Jericho would have been proud. But he was sure his own actions helped in pushing his best friend… his brother, for all intents and purposes, away.

Jet frowned as he glanced over his shoulder at the taller young man, but it wasn’t a look of anger. It was more determined than anything.

“Let’s get to work then,” he suggested, holding out his hands for his two knives to appear from subspace, hands gripping to the hilts. “We can take out the weaker of the two, first,” he suggested, having no issue with ganging up on someone in order to gain the advantage. If they were lucky, the Dark Mirror Senshi would be as inexperienced as he hoped.

“If you can keep up,” he added, his hazel eyes glimmering with the challenge.

A trick he was quickly growing fond of, Jet stepped off the edge of the building, dropping several stories before teleporting to his target, and swinging his two knives down to hopefully slice up the Dark Mirror Senshi’s back.

————————

Varuna was ready and waiting for the moment the Dark Mirror Senshi appeared in her line of vision, but the voice she heard made her immediately hesitate. She knew that voice.

She could also feel the auras of the Negaverse officers getting closer… and then one disappeared completely.

It was as if her heart suddenly stopped. Her eyes widened in horror as she pushed off the alley wall and towards the voice, just as the aura of the agent reappeared. “Snow slide!” she shouted in her panic, unable to reach Loke in time, but knowing the sudden burst of snow could very well deter the Negaverse officer’s attack.

Unfortunately, that meant Loke would be hit as well. But she was very pleased to see when the Captain was taken down in a wave of snow.

Seraphinite caught the look, a smirk answering the challenge as he picked up the pace to follow Jet. Didn't bring out his weapons. ******** weak as ******** those were. No, the lieutenant preferred his fists over breakable wooden swords. Though in a pinch, he guessed sharp splinters could be a b***h for someone to deal with.

"Just make sure you can move faster than your mouth," he bit back, the challenge met with a fiery gleam of his own. Of course. Jet had something Seraphinite didn't. Teleportation. "...that doesn't count," he grumbled, very much a pissy child, as he worked to hop down to lower, and safer for his power level, rooftops to not kill himself from a drop.

He knew where, generally, the Dark Mirror senshi was. Knew where he was heading. Helped that Jet's aura was a giant beacon to follow for him as he neared the streets.

Damn guy was already getting a strike in--one that was being joined by the strike of a stronger Order senshi. Cussing, Seraphinite leapt the remaining distance between him and the ground, hitting it hard but moving quick to try and ignore the sparks up his legs. The senshi was going to have to wait before she could use her magic again, that much he knew.

Working through the damn snow--snow? Jet was gonna get ******** sick from this, great--he reached down to try and fish the Captain out with one hand, while with his foot he landed a solid kick to the Dark Mirror's side, cussing. "Stay down."

-----

Obviously, the Order senshi wasn't talking. Or at least not answering him immediately. Not that there was really much time, he guessed in slight retrospect. One second, the energy signatures from the Negaverse was a decent distance away. The next? He had one at his back, along with the sharp bite of something through the fabric of his uniform and into flesh. His outcry was smothered by snow, and Loke hit the ground with the ******** jackass on top of him. Somewhat anyways.

Struggling to get the <********> away from the blade-toting agent, he was at least somewhat relieved that it felt like the snow attack had knocked the guy's weapons out of his skin at least, though the burning pain down a portion of his upper back wasn't comforting.

Gritting his teeth, he managed to wriggle somewhat out from under the guy and tried to get his hands and knees under himself to try and get to his freaking feet.

Till a boot landed square in his ribs and Loke choked out a swear, hitting the ground hard before he managed to roll onto his side somewhat--a painful procedure that at least enabled him to glare up at the tall Nega agent more on his power level. "Say that to the pipsqueak," he snarled. "Betrayal of the Family!"

His hands glowed orange for a split moment before a streak of the dull orange energy flew towards the Captain. He had no ******** idea if his magic would work on the guy. But ******** hell he had to try something.

Dimly... he was at least aware of one good thing.

He'd found the senshi he'd been looking for.

Effect: The single target is compelled by Loke's magic to harm one of their allies rather than a member of the opposing side. The compulsion lasts for five seconds. It is the target's will that determines the success of Loke's magic, repeated exposures does not weaken the compulsion's effect on them.

Downfall: The target can dodge the energy flare from Loke, and it is possible to break free of the compulsion. The attack is not necessarily a magical one, and Loke has no means of controlling how, when, or where the target attacks their ally... assuming they do at all. Those of a higher level than Loke have a far easier time breaking free of the compulsion. There is a cool-down period of a minute and he can only use this attack three times per battle.

Well, he wasn’t expecting the snow. He probably should have, seeing as senshi were notorious for having weird magic, but for one to be able to surprise him with the icy wave of snow? Yeah, he didn’t anticipate that one. He would know better for next time.

Thankfully, it seemed as though he had managed to get a piece of the Dark Mirror Senshi. It was a good thing, too, as he appeared to be a White Moon sympathizer.

He grunted in gratitude when Seraphinite came to help him back up, taking hold of his friend’s hand while the Dark Mirror senshi was kicked. But he didn’t have enough time to really appreciate the help, or even get a word in, when the downed senshi spoke up.

There wasn’t enough time for even a glare for the mocking name, before a sudden orange flare shot out and struck him. Suddenly, without realizing what he was doing, Jet ripped his arms away from Seraphinite’s grasp, and swung the knives forward.

One slash, and then… the other knife he’d managed to release his hold on before it could follow through, but he still felt his knuckles make contact with the other officer. “S-s**t,” he hissed in panic, his actions making him stagger backwards in surprise at himself. What the hell was that? Magic?

—————

Whatever it was, Varuna was thankful for it! She lunged forward to grab hold of Loke’s arm and try to drag him back out of the snow, doing her best to be mindful of the cuts he now sported across his back. He really didn’t have any luck whenever their paths crossed, even if it wasn’t her doing to put him in such a position.

She quickly lifted his arm up and over her shoulder, despite being several inches shorter than he was, and jumped back, away from the snow and the two officers that seemed to be affected by Loke’s strange magic. Strange, but thankfully useful in this situation, apparently.

They had to get away from there, and fast. Before the two officers managed to get their wits back about them. She could only carry him so far.

Helping Jet up, Seraphinite had at least managed to send a glare back at the Dark Mirror. Pipsqueak? Yeah ok, so Seraphinite could at least agree Jet was shorter than him but he wasn't going to call his friend a pipsqueak. Or at the very least, not tolerate someone else saying it. Gritting his teeth, he was about to land another kick to the jackass' side when dim orange light appeared around his hand. Startled by the light, he didn't manage that second strike.

Giving the senshi plenty of time to get his own in.

Seraphinite barely understood what was going on as Jet pulled back, the teen turning to his friend with wide eyes. "Jet, the ******** wro--" His words, meant to be in concern, never quite finished. A roar of pain ripped from the young man as a blade ripped through his jacket and undershirt, a splatter of blood welling up at the impact across the middle of his chest. Had the second blade continued, it would have struck his face.

It was then only by luck that Jet managed to release the blade, his fist instead impacting with Seraphinite's jaw and sending the larger boy stumbling backwards, falling onto the ground with a groan. Sparks of pain ricocheted around his chest and jaw, bright lights dancing across his vision. The rank up had definitely given Ilian a ******** more power behind that punch...

He scrambled back a bit though, trying to keep some distance between him and Jet. Stumbling, he finally got back onto his feet and watched his friend uneasily. he snarled, keeping his eyes trained on the faster Captain. At least he hoped that was the ******** senshi and not Ilian....

-----

If he'd been less injured, Loke would have been landing in a few more hits onto the fallen lieutenant to hopefully keep the jackass down. At least against a Captain if he and Varuna worked together... might not be impossible. As it was. He wasn't moving all too well. Making such an ideal almost impossible.

He let out a groaning yelp as Varuna caught hold of him, gritting his teeth to try and smother his responses to the pain. Loke at least managed to get his feet under him and help her right him up. Even if the pain was making his head spin, he tried to focus on just getting the ******** outta there. "Owe you big for that help," he murmured, holding onto her as she got his arm over her shoulder and leapt back. "Magic won't last long..." He didn't think it'd be fast enough for her magic to be ready for another go, so he was trying to keep himself together enough to keep moving with her to get the ******** outta there.

If he could get to a mirror... he could get the ******** out of there... but the idea of leaving Varuna without any form of assistance--or a possible distraction--from two pissed off Negas didn't remotely appeal to him. "Look, just throw me by a full length mirror and you can run. Power down, I'll let them come after me, then zip into the mirror before they catch me. They can't come after me once I'm there." He wasn't... he wasn't strong enough to take her through the mirror. So he could at least offer to be a distraction for her to get to safety.

The other knife fell from his grasp as Jet reached forward, as if to try and place his hands against the wound. He stopped himself, of course, pulling back as angry tears welled in his eyes. He didn’t know what had happened, but this was not the plan at all. Hurting Seraphinite was not on his list of things to do.

“Forget it,” he hissed, although he made a mental note that he would definitely have to eliminate the senshi in question for what he’d made him do. “The numbness is going to wear off, soon,” he explained, knowing his blades seemed to temporarily numb whatever it managed to cut. Soon enough, Seraphinite would feel the full effect of the damage.

“I’m getting you out of here,” Jet decided, his dropped blades disappearing into subspace as he reached out to offer a hand to Seraphinite. Although… the way his friend was looking at him…

“You don’t think I did that on purpose, do you??” he asked, lowering his hand again. The senshi were getting away, but even as a Captain, he had his priorities.

—————

Varuna shook her head at him telling her that he owed her. Hardly. It had partially been her fault for getting him in that mess. If he hadn’t been looking for her, or maybe if she’d responded to him sooner, then they wouldn’t be running for their lives. As it were, it seemed as though the Negaverse officers weren’t in pursuit at the moment, which would give her enough time to get Loke to the mirror that he requested, and hopefully give her enough time to escape as well.

It would be more difficult without being able to duck into a mirror, but she hoped she could manage to outrun them.

She took a moment to look over their shoulder to make sure they weren’t being followed, pulling her now blood covered arm from around Loke’s back. Varuna grit her teeth and forced herself not to take the time to try and look at the wound, hoping that he would be able to get the attention he needed once he went through the mirror.

“Where?” she choked, her voice thick with the emotion that she fought back from appearing in her eyes.

Ah ********. It was gonna get worse? Seraphinite gritted his teeth. He'd kept himself from backing up further when Jet reached out to him, though his eyes followed every move of the Captain. How long would he be... caught up in that stuff? Magic, surely.

The look in Jet's face made his posture relax... slightly. More from the spring of guilt that made his face fall a bit, despite the rage that boiled through his veins. His skin bristled, furious that they'd been put into this situation at all. ******** senshi. ******** magic. he snapped before wincing at his own voice, closing his eyes and taking a few breaths before looking at Jet again. "No. I don't. If you were pissed at me I'd sooner expect you to punch me, not slash me." He tried to smile a bit, attempting to bring a joke into the situation.

His gaze flicked towards where the senshi had gone and he cussed a bit more. "More for the list," he hissed, before sighing and holding a hand out to Jet. The other tried to press the fabric of his uniform to the slash, hoping to stop some of the blood flow. "Alright... I'm bleeding like crazy here so let's get out and get me patched up... and pain killers."

-----

The numbness from the slashes was starting to ware off. Loke had to bite his tongue to keep from swearing up a storm. Bad enough he was bleeding all over Varuna. Closing his eyes briefly to stop the world from spinning, he had to try and focus his thoughts on... on where the ******** he'd find a mirror near there. "Park," he finally grunted out, opening his eyes again--and having to blink them a few times.

"We keep a lot of 'em in the parks. Easy to hide in the bushes and s**t." He knew where most of them were in the different parks by that point--he'd used them enough throughout the city. Looking to Varuna, he cracked a small, slightly strained, smile. "Girlie, I really need to grab some ********' disposable cells or some s**t. Way easier to find you that way." That'd probably help solve future similar situations...

The arm around her tightened a little in a half-hug. "Plus I can harass you via text. Nothing better to pass the time, eh?" Once he got through the mirror... he'd be going right to Rem. The prince was the top on his list for whom he had to contact. He'd been attacked by a ******** Negaverse agent. Not to mention now had slashes across his back that had to be tended too--hopefully Rem knew someone who could help, or just get him to a freaking hospital... "I'll be fine," he finally said, having heard that... tone in her voice. "I know where to go for help. We got a prince. He'll get me fixed up. Pipsqueak'll get ********' hell when I tell 'em what happened..."

Jet’s frown deepened at Seraphinite’s poorly timed joke about being punched. While he could understand the concern, he didn’t think joking about it was going to make anything any better. He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and reached out to grab onto his friend’s hand.

Hopefully he’d cut that senshi deep enough that he would die before able to get help. Or maybe the White Moon senshi would just take the opportunity to finish him off for them. They were supposed to be enemies too, right?

He gripped rightly to Seraphinite’s hand, and in a blink of an eye vanished, teleporting back to negaspace where they would be safe.

———————

Varuna nodded, stumbling a little under the awkward weight of trying to hoist Loke as quickly and carefully as possible towards the closest park, but she didn’t say anything about the cells or texting or anything like that. In fact, this was one of the times she wished he would just shut up.

Luckily Loke knew where the mirrors were and they were able to get to one before they were able to be caught. In fact, the Negaverse officers’ auras seemed to have disappeared for now. But that meant nothing.

She pushed him towards the mirror, refusing to leave until Loke made his way safely inside, leaving her to stare at her own ghostly reflection — pale with fear and worry, and covered in Loke’s blood.
