STUDENT FORM
Name: Keegan Harper
Alias: Keeg, Keegs Age: 16 Gender: male Powers:
starting power - umbrakinesis power pool - pick 2 photokinesis , hypnosis
Aura: Primary: Purple (#7C49A3) Secondary: Red (#ED325A)
Appearance: SEE RIGHT - CUTIE
Keegan is of average height, and has a wiry, slim build. Much of his strength is in his legs, likely from years of dance practice and performances, which he participated in constantly before arriving to Majesco. He has a bright purple complexion and neon teal hair, which come mainly from his mother's side of the family. He has very eccentric fashion tastes, and loves to dress up. It's exceedingly rare to see him in 'normal' clothes, unless he happens to be lounging around at home (also a rather rare occurrence). He's not into 'fashion' as much as costumes, and isn't picky about what he wears as long as it looks interesting to him; this usually means something colorful, odd, or maybe even part of a costume. Unusual and flashy things are adored, and he couldn't care less what anyone thinks about it, either.
bright hair and complexion eccentric almost always dresses 'weird', not into fashion as much as costume, loves thrift store finds and is not picky or shy about the weird crap he wears bright colors, bright everything, loves unusual/flashy clothing and costumes, does not always have the best fashion sense but also doesn't tend to care what others think regarding that
Personality:
Outgoing and constantly chipper, Keegan's outward demeanor is just as vivacious as his appearance would lead one to believe. He's undeniably energetic, from the way he speaks to the way he moves, and can't help but be animated in almost everything that he does. Being a social creature, he always does his best to make himself seem open and approachable, always smiling and ready with a friendly joke. He is smart-mouthed and quick-witted, and never really grew out of being a class clown. Negativity is something Keegan simply doesn't like to deal with, and this serves as a double-edged sword; despite his constant optimism, his high energy can become grating or obnoxious at times, though he never means bad by it.
Following with his optimism, Keegan is also a fairly confident (and perhaps a bit stubborn) person. When he gets an idea about something, whether it's what to wear or something he wants to do, he will stand behind his decision, upholding an air of swagger despite any naysaying that may come his way. He takes pride in his appearance, and loves trying new looks and clothes, especially when they are on the more unusual side. He'll rarely leave the house without making sure he looks 'good' and can be downright prissy in this respect, though his fashion sense is neither mainstream nor particularly sensible most of the time. Having been bullied for his tastes in the past, he is hardly judgmental when it comes to others, and often encourages those he grows close with to have fun with what they enjoy, rather than giving into the pressures that surround them.
Keegan is a very artistic and expressive person. Before coming to Majesco, he regularly participated in a theatre group connected to his school. He was most interested in acting initially, but dancing and singing ended up being the most captivating activities for him. He can always be caught humming to himself, and will not hesitate to sing for friends as a playful gesture. He dislikes sitting still and often fidgets or wiggles, especially during school, where he sometimes finds it difficult to focus. Hands on activities are the ones he enjoys the most, and though he's not great at it, he loves to draw and paint. Despite his high energy, sport-related things are also not Keegan's forte. He is agile and graceful, but lacks the reflexes for most types of sports and can be incredibly flinchy. This has been a source of embarrassment for him in the past, as his older sister excelled at such things, and constantly teased him for it.
While he tries to maintain a positive attitude about most things, he isn't immune to frustration, and can sometimes be quite melodramatic in expressing his displeasure. When a bad situation boils over, his emotions tend to get the best of him, and he can even be a bit of a crybaby in a particularly bad spot. When these situations occur, he often tries his damnedest to hide it, usually to his detriment, as he often only makes himself more upset. It takes quite a bit for him to reach these states, fortunately, and he's gotten better at controlling himself as he's gotten older.
keywords for later confident energetic eccentric melodramatic/dramatic/expressive show off artistic improvisational mercurial obnoxious deceitful grudge-holder/bitter bossy prissy (maybe) diva???? baby/crybaby
stuff he's (possibly) about theatre/dance/singing, the arts, movies, design, parties, socializing, keeping active
stuff he's not crazy about having to wait or sit still for things (impatient or easily restless), 'boring' school subjects (mostly math), cooking (horrible at it),
History: Include information about their family, home life, when their powers began appearing, reactions to powers, whether they attended camp or not (event character, so no, and whether they had prior knowledge of psychonauts and psychic stuff before attending. Anything else is optional and encouraged.
Born the youngest of three siblings, Keegan was blessed with a relatively average childhood and a pair of caring, if not slightly oblivious, parents. Liam and Shannon Harper met at a large rock concert. Shannon had just started college and hoped to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher, while Liam belonged to the road crew of one of the bands that was performing. They had an undeniable spark, and though they were forced to part ways after a single wild night, they resolved to keep in touch. After struggling to manage a long-distance relationship, Liam decided to give up his wanna-be rock star aspirations and used his meager savings to move closer to Shannon and finish his own, previously abandoned, schooling.
Though their relationship had its occasional rocky parts (and one split that eventually reversed itself), the pair helped one another through school and managed to graduate before having their first child, Jodi. They married soon after, and proceeded to build a life for themselves, finding jobs and eventually buying a house in which to raise their children. By the time Jodi was four years old, Shannon had Lydia, and Keegan came a year later. Despite the occasional chaos involved with raising three kids, Liam and Shannon's approach to parenting was firm, but laid-back. Following a 'go with the flow' type of motto, they did their best to provide love and support while keeping Keegan and his siblings on track in school and life. They were not alone in their efforts; Liam did not have much immediate/nearby family to speak of, but Shannon's side brought several aunts and uncles and one eccentric grandmother to the mix.
Keegan was a rambunctious kid from the start, and his childhood was mostly a happy one. Being the youngest, and one of the two 'babies' of the family, he enjoyed attention, and quickly grew accustomed to receiving it. He was the most outgoing of the three Harper siblings, often competing with Jodi for the ringleader position (often unsuccessfully), while the more withdrawn Lydia was content to follow along with most of their shenanigans. Keegan definitely experienced most of his sibling-fueled friction with Jodi; her bossiness and seniority never failed to drive him up the wall when they were growing up, and her age always granted her the usual advantages, like being able to kick his butt at most games and sports. Their sibling rivalry faded as they got older, and Jodi ended up being a major positive influence on Keegan later on, as he dealt with school troubles. Lydia, on the other hand, was always the one everyone looked out for. Closer together in age, Keegan and Lydia were constant playmates growing up, and played off of each other's strengths and flaws without even realizing it. Keegan would often stand up for Lydia and defend her if he thought she needed it, while she was always willing to play with or listen to him after everyone else had reached their limit with his hyperactive ways. Lydia always had a special knack for getting Keegan to tone himself down, and Keegan always made sure Lydia got her say in whatever, encouraging her to make her voice heard.
While he had a good relationship with both of his parents, he shared a slightly closer bond with his father, and loved to hear stories about his mischievous younger days, most of which were spent touring with various rock bands and getting into trouble. Liam introduced him to the world of music, sparked his love for it, and even began to teach him how to play guitar. He enjoyed singing most of all, however, and loved to put on a show, taking great delight in pretending to be in his own band with Lydia and Jodi, when the latter chose to cooperate. His enjoyment of such imaginative diversions are one of the things that have stuck with him as time has passed, and though he could be very goofy at times (why is wearing your halloween costume after the holiday ends a bad thing, again?), neither Liam or Shannon wanted to stifle his creativity, and so avoided putting a damper on it.
Keegan's powers began to show when he was around five years old, and neither he nor his parents were aware of the possibility of psychic powers, or the existence of Majesco. Though his gifts gave him small advantages, their manifestations were very subtle in the beginning. It was always brushed off as luck or strange coincidence; avoiding falls with brief lapses of levitation that no one seemed to notice, or gleaning secrets and other tidbits of information through short-lived moments of telepathy. (?????? ASK ABOUT THIS, I DONT KNOW IF BASE POWERS CAN MANIFEST BEFORE THEIR MAIN POWERS) Keegan was seven when he began to notice something truly strange, namely the way the shadows twisted around when his emotions got the best of him. It took him a while to realize that he was the one making them move, and to his delight, he could even make his own shadow move about if he focused on it hard enough. Unfortunately, his control was inconsistent, and his wild claims were often dismissed by his siblings (especially Jodi, who he often butted heads with anyway) and parents as silly fibs or attention-grabs. The most frustrating part was that he could never seem to replicate his tricks for an audience, which caused him to begin to doubt himself. He found reassurance in the form of his grandmother, who always offered him encouragement, even when everyone else brushed off his antics as impossible nonsense. In secret, he began to practice, eager to prove that he wasn't lying.
Along with the emergence of his confusing psychic gifts, the few problems Keegan ever had during his earlier years stemmed from school. His high energy always made it difficult to sit still for lessons, and he was a relentless class clown. The older he became, the worse it got, and he always found himself falling behind, forced to deal with the consequences of his goofing off during detention and extra tutoring sessions. The only things he liked to actually sit still for were art lessons - and he excelled at things if he could turn them into a game. For better or worse (and to the frustration of some of his stricter teachers), his parents were always hesitant about being too harsh with him; laid-back Liam didn't want to turn into the bad guy, and Shannon always did her best to help her children with their schoolwork anyway. Rather than just doling out punishment after punishment, they also attempted to provide incentives to motivate him. At the start of sixth grade, Keegan made his choice - he would be allowed to sign up for his school's theatre and dance group in return for improving his grades and study habits. It was something he'd been wanting to do for ages, and was determined to make time for by keeping up with his schoolwork. Though there were plenty of rough patches and adjustments, the extra motivation was just what Keegan needed to help keep himself focused.
Part of the reason for Keegan's distraction in school were his powers, which he slowly became better at controlling. Through no small feat, he managed to hide them from everyone except Lydia and Jodi, who urged him to do so for childish fear of his safety. "They'll slice you open to see what makes you tick," Jodi always teased, only to be scolded by Lydia for saying such awful things. Young and paranoid, Keegan did just that, though the urge to show off grew worse as his control became better. His umbrakinesis, being his most visually obvious gift, was his favorite to use, and before long he realized he could control not only shadow, but light as well. Against his better judgement, he often used his powers for entertainment (he was pretty good at shadow puppets), or to pull pranks. He only learned much later that his budding hypnosis had played an integral role in convincing others (mainly adults) that there was nothing unusual going on, allowing him to carry the charade far into his teenage years.
Keegan might have gone on that way indefinitely, but the secret was simply too big for him to keep. With his natural sense of showmanship (aka, showoffmanship), he made the eventual decision to incorporate his powers of umbra and photokinesis into an audition for one of his dance group's performances. While he didn't fail in his execution of his flashy plan, the display left his teachers and peers flabbergasted and speechless, and the auditions came to a screeching halt. Needless to say, he didn't get the positive reaction he'd been hoping for. Accidentally invoking a brilliant flash of light to mask his escape, a panicked Keegan fled the scene, after which a flurry of the wrong kind of attention came falling down around him.
While his parents certainly weren't angry with him, they were worried and concerned, as all the oddities of Keegan's childhood fell into place and began to make sense. The prospect of their baby being seen as different was nerve wracking, and they didn't want him coming to any harm because of it. It didn't take long for rumors to spread throughout Keegan's school, but fortunately, not all the repercussions of his decision were negative. One of the teachers recognized his talents for what they were, and it didn't take long after that for the Majesco brochure to appear in the mail. Despite the fact that he would be leaving many friends and his family behind, Keegan acknowledged that something needed to change, for his own safety and others' - after a short discussion and a small amount of research, it was decided that the best option would be to allow him to attend the academy, where he could learn how to control his powers in a safer environment.
