She hadn’t called. Ida hadn’t called. Why hadn’t she called? Chariklo couldn’t stop herself from checking her phone feverishly. From placing her own calls out to Ida and making tiny noises of distress when no one picked up. Oh sure, the tall blonde knew that something might’ve come up and the lack of communication might be because Ida had gone to her planet. Asteroid. Whatever.
But she still would have called me and let me know so I wouldn’t worry. Wouldn’t she?
After a moment, Chariklo put the phone away and forced herself to power down. Sitting on her couch, Bindhi buried her face in her hands and tried not to start bawling like a bereft calf. The most logical explanation was that an emergency had come up and Ida had gone to space to take care of it. She’d done similar things before where she would simply not communicate for a few days. Except. Except she promised to call me. And Ida wasn’t the type to break a promise to a friend. Much less a friend who was as admittedly fragile as Bindhi knew herself to be at the moment. So, did this silence mean that something was wrong? Or that Ida had had to make a choice between coddling a friend or rushing to deal with something more important?
What to do, what to do… Bindhi closed her eyes against the tears that threatened and reached a hand down to gently rub her dog’s belly. Oh, logically she knew that she could swing by Orah’s apartment and talk to her roommates. Who all happened to be senshi and Ida’s teammates. They might know more.
They might know who that Gehenna person that Ida had gone to help out was. And possibly where to find him. Or her. SInce she couldn’t remember whether or not Ida had said anything to indicate gender.
“I don’t know what I should be doing, pup,” she murmured as she curled her fingers under Sanskrit’s body and lifted him into her lap. She smiled a little as the dog pressed a cold nose to her scarred forearm before curling up and closing his eyes. “Orah did a good job taking care of you while I was out of commission, didn’t she. I wonder what you thought of Liryn.”
In spite of her worry, the thought amused her. She knew that Liryn wouldn’t have been that worried about a dog. She wasn’t so sure that Sanskrit had been as thoughtful. But since she hadn’t heard any stories about cat and dog fights, she had to assume that the dog had taken a talking cat in stride. Which was all very nice, of course. But it didn’t solve the problem of why she hadn’t heard from Ida.
She sat a moment longer, indecision gnawing at her gut before she sighed and moved the dog aside to stand up. She could always take a walk to Orah’s place and if anyone was home, she could try to find something out. Hell, there was even going out tonight and visiting Hver to see if she’d seen or heard anything. Brightening a little at the knowledge that there were things she could do, Bindhi snatched up her keys and headed for the door.
Hver might even be the best bet for information. She was a Knight and Bindhi knew that this Gehenna was as well. And as far as she’d ever been able to tell, Hver knew of most of the knights in the city. Yes. She’d go by Orah’s place first and then go visit Hver.
And then she’d go looking for this Gehenna.
