After everything that had happened for him, mostly his training, he needed a break from it all. Thankfully he'd managed to find some time to make something for the one person he seemed to always be thinking about. Now Gael just needed to find Kani so he could spend the day with her. It was something he had been looking forward to for a while. On this trip down the beach, however, he had a companion. A tan zanteer that was lopping along beside him with it's tongue lulling about. The goofy creature would swerve every now and then to bump into Gael's leg and make him stumble. This made the Matorian glare down at his familiar. "Stop that. You better behave around Kani too." He warned the beast. He'd not deal with the unruly thing doing anything stupid. Or so he thought. OpticPeach Throwing a FIN tag on this since it seems like a good place to end it. After the war Kani hadn't done much. She really hadn't wanted to do anything if she was being honest. She had failed her job, gotten injured instead of doing anything good for the weird alliance they'd all formed. Now she had found herself wandering the beach like she always did. Zoryn had stuck to hanging around her more and more, and she was honestly grateful for it now. She wasn't really sure if she could be alone right now. She'd been in a slump for a while now, and with she and Gael doing their own things there was little time for them to see each other. For now it would just be her and Zoryn and her thoughts. "At least I've got you, buddy."

It didn't take long before he spotted Kani near the water. Gael smiled when he saw her and picked up the pace a little. However when he got closer he noticed that she looked bothered by something. "Kani?" He called out. The young Matorian was worried now. Had something happened since he last saw her? He continued to walk toward her but his eyes looked her over to make sure there was nothing physically wrong. The zanteer at his side grew excited as he spotted the new person. He started to prance and hop until finally he left his master's side and went toward Kani with renewed excitement. Bastul didn't jump on her lie he wanted to but he did pounce around her in a circle.

Kani was surprised to see another zanteer running around her in circles, and even more surprised when she heard someone calling her name. It took a moment for her to ease Zoryn before she stood up to see just who was calling out to her. She hadn't expected to see him honestly. He'd been off training and what not, not that she was mad about it, she just figured he wouldn't want to stop back anytime soon. Yet here he was with the perfect timing. "Hi Gael," she muttered, embarrassed that he'd caught her moping about. "How have things been?"

"A bit busy for me with training." He replied as he got closer to her. Gael tapped his familiar on the nose and told him to sit, which Bastul did with some hesitation, then looked at Kani a bit more. "Everything alright? Something bothering you?" The young Matorian had to admit he was more than curious to see what it was that had her in such a slump. He'd noticed her mood even from a distance so he assumed it was something big.

She shrugged, unsure of how to answer his question. She didn't want to worry him when he had all of his training and such to worry about. It wasn't fair to him to drag him into her problems. Especially since she knew how he would worry and try his best to help. Though it was pretty obvious she had an issue, so it was either lie and say nothing was wrong or tell the truth and worry him. It was not a fun situation in general and she hated herself for it. "How has training been? I haven't seen you around for a bit. Not really since the Alki threat and all," she asked, deciding to just ignore the subject of her issues completely.

He frowned at her as she lied to him with her shrug and then ignored his question with her words. Gael reached into his pocket then and pulled out the sea shell bracelet that he had made for her. "Training has been tough, but I found time to make this for you." He held it in he palm as he moved his hand toward her so she could see. "Kani, I can tell you're upset. What is it?" Since she had asked about his training and mentioned that she'd not seen him in a while he thought she might be upset with him about the lack of time spent together. "I didn't forget about you. I would never do such a thing. If you want to spend more time together I can sneak away early some days."

"No, no. It has nothing to do with that, Gael. You're free to do whatever you want. You shouldn't be worrying about me when you should be working hard for your dreams," she tried to explain, fearing she'd just made things a lot worse. She took a moment to relax before picking up the bracelet from his hand and admiring it. It was incredible of course like everything he made was. She was just surprised to see he'd made something while off training. "You didn't have to make me anything. It is beautiful though. I love it."

He smiled at her and moved a bit closer so that he could reach up and cup her cheek in his hand. "I'm glad." Gael moved his hand from her face. "Now tell me what has you upset." He wanted to know so he could try to fix it. If there was something that was truly bothering her then maybe he could do something to make her feel better.

"You're not going to let up until I tell you, huh?" she questioned, though she knew the answer already. He always worried. She patted Zoryn lightly before settling down on the ground once more and motioning for Gael to sit beside her. If she was going to explain things she really didn't want to do it standing. "It's a silly thing to be so upset about really. There wasn't anything more I could do. I didn't do anything really. I just failed to do what I was taught. I didn't grasp something or maybe I just didn't listen. Either way the war showed me just how big of a failure I still am."

OpticPeach omg! Gaia didn't tell me you posted. T^T Sorry!!! He smiled at her and shook his head. "Nope." And it was true. Gael would do everything in his power to find out what was bothering her. So when she patted the place beside her and invited him to sit he did so. Kani meant a lot to him so he couldn't just let her be down about something. As she started to explain he was confused on what it was exactly that she was referring to. Then he understood. She was upset because of her magic and how things had gone at the battle. Gael reached out and took her hand gently in his own. "Whoa.. Kani, slow down. You did wonderful. I was impressed." The progress that she showed was amazing to him. Then again he wasn't a magic user. "If anyone was a failure it was me. I was supposed to protect you and I didn't." After all, she had gotten hurt because he had been unable to defend her. "But it was not your fault."

"Of course it's my fault. I learned nothing, so now I must work harder somehow. You just..." Kani trailed off, shutting herself off more from him. She didn't know what to say. Really there wasn't much she could say about it. She felt like she had failed and words weren't going to change it. "I'm being a big downer. I'm sure this isn't how you wanted to spend your time, huh?"Heras Box It's all good no need to apologize! biggrin Sorry it took me so long to reply. Been in a slump.

He shook his head at her then wrapped an arm around her to pull her close. "I refuse to believe it was your fault." Gael smiled at Kani. He was going to be stubborn about this subject. "I love spending my time with you, even if you want to be grumpy. It's kinda cute." He hoped that by teasing her she would come around. The he looked at his familiar as he was sniffing at them. "Would you believe I ended up with a pet?"

"Cute, huh?" Kani chuckled, leaning her head against his shoulder. It always amazed her just how comfortable she was around the other Matori, despite being in such a down state. "You really know how to make a girl feel special. Do you know that?" It was hard to tell if he was just being nice to her or not, but she'd always felt safe with him. The thought of another Matori having his attention didn't please her one bit. "I never expected you to be the pet type, then again I got stuck with my own furry friend myself after spending so much time with Aza."Heras Box Gaia never alerted me to this noooooo.

Since she chuckled he nodded his head. "When you want to be grumpy, yes." Gael winked at her. When she leaned against him he shifted so that she could sit more comfortably against him. "Do I?" As he asked the question he put his arm around her. "Yea, this idiot followed me during my morning run and never left." Gael reached back and rubbed at Bastul's ears. The Zanteer affectionately leaned into his hand.
