Chilled fingers run down Melvin's back, stirring him from his sleep. "Happy New Year," Rin's voice sounds distant, tinny.

It was not the first time Melvin have heard her voice, thought she was there, and woken with a start to the unnerving feeling she was still there with him, as if he was placed back in time to sleeping beside her.
The chill startled him as he jerked awake, blinking into the dark and looking around. His hand instinctively went to touch the side of the bed, but Jan wasn't here, and he felt only a cold emptiness there that he didn't want to get familiar with.
".....Rin?" He called out, and a fluttering pain came into his chest. Hadn't she left Jan's body? Didn't that mean she was gone forever?
Yet, maybe.....
Hadn't she survived outside of Jan's body until he channeled her? Was she looking for a door still? Was he still not done?
Did that mean he hadn't failed yet?
His eyes looked out to make sure Rodney wasn't awake as he stared about, trying to see some sense of her presence or feel her somehow again, even if a little bit. "Rin? Are you still here with me?"
One hand frantically snatched his glasses from the nightstand to put them on before he looked around, raising his hands out in hopes of receiving her again.
"Rin....I'm here."

A blue light gently illuminates the edge of the bed. On the floor nearby is Rin's bloodless features, lit up by the phone shoved awkwardly in her mouth. There's a dark smear of blood where the stump of her neck meets the thin shoulder of the other body on the floor. It doesn't belong to Rin, masculine and and almost petite in its structure. Even without the proper head, he knows it well. "Mel, it's okay," her voice seems a bit closer now.

The glow grabbed his attention, and he jumped to the end of the bed - only stare in horror back.
It was a body, but not the one he had caresses over a year ago, letting bare hands travel over soft, perfumes hills and mounds to the smooth valleys and rounded thighs between. The body was one he grew to appreciate, slender and delicate, a sharpened powder white, soft and smelling exotic like fresh white sheets in a foreign villa. It was one he held, pressed against as he heard a soft voice curl back to greet him.
But they were separate and whole now, and he stared down at the glow that he came to assume with life when carving, of success when the glow fizzled awake and showed he had done a job well done. It was the blue of horror, of sudden dread at seeing a mission and what may come. It was the blue of a morgue cabinet, and a warning.
Dropping to the ground, he scooped them both up, shaking as he held the body. Quickly, he pulled out the phone. "Rin?!" How was she okay?! How was any of this okay?
Where was her body? How did she get her head back?
Where was Jan?
"Wh-What happened? Oh my god. What happened to you?" He looked about and saw no other head or no other body. "Jan?!" He called out before looking back to the body in his arms, moving his hand up to brush back the thick curls to the face he had so long yearned to kiss again.
And he did, leaning in to kiss her over and over quickly as he felt every part of him break at seeing her like this, and yet to be here again with him. "Rin. Who did this to you? I thought - I thought you were gone. I thought you left when you let Jan go......and Jan.........." And Jan....
Where was Jan?
He looked at the phone and held it up to them, not sure what voice would come from where.
