Name: Robyn Anita Jansen

Nickname: None that Robyn is willing to recognize.

Age: 15

Birthday: June 17th

Sign: Gemini

Gemstone: Moonstone

Blood Type: A-

Fav. Food: Anything simple and portable, but especially string cheese and clementines. Robyn has had many a lunch consisting of string cheese and clementines, and she never gets tired of them.

Hated Food: All kinds of salad. Salad is just a code word for “stick everything in the one bowl,” and the results are never appetizing. If food was meant to be eaten all mixed together, it would all grow in the same place, and does it? NO.

School: St. Magdalena’s Seminary

Hobbies:

Trivial Pursuits: Robyn is the queen of useless facts. She can tell you who the first president to live in the White House was (John Adams), how many nautical miles there are in a league (three), or which film won the Oscar for Best Cinematography in 2013 (Gravity). She spends hours reading about random nonsense, trawling wiki pages and leafing through magazines. Her final goal is to know everything, and even though she knows this is impossible- or maybe because of that- she works on it constantly. Robyn seldom uses her knowledge for games or contests, since she’s uncomfortable with competition, but this is one of the few things she can be talked into actually trying. She’s good, too, but not great- despite her every effort, she doesn’t actually know everything there is to know.

An Adventurer is You: Video game characters get awesome powers, amazing friends, and important tasks to fulfill. In short, everything Robyn feels she lacks in her everyday life. She strongly prefers single-player RPGs with parties of cool, interesting characters: Persona, Chrono Trigger, and any Final Fantasy rank in her favorites list, though she’s recently discovered Fire Emblem Awakening and is in the process of matchmaking all the characters and raising her Renown. She only owns handheld systems, which limits her choices somewhat, but that means she can take her virtual life with her wherever she goes, and she can often be found playing on the bus, at lunch, and- if she’s feeling really daring- during her frequent detentions.

String You Along: While Robyn has a fondness for pretty and/or cute accessories, she doesn’t exactly have a budget to match her interest. Instead, she makes jewelry and hairpins out of found materials and bargain bin beads, enjoying the challenge of turning what she has at hand into something uniquely attractive. At this point, she’s more into the process of crafting new pieces than modeling finished products, though she can usually be found wearing something she’s made herself. The rest of her stock is kept on hand for birthdays, Christmas, and just-because gifts, and those who know her are often drowned in a succession of homemade trinkets, whether they want them or not.

Virtues:

My Word is My Bond: If Robyn promises something, that promise may as well be set in stone. She will do just about anything to keep her word, even if she has to do something shady or outright wrong. In Robyn’s mind, the worst thing a person can do is break their promise, and she’s determined to never betray anyone’s trust in that way. Because of this, she's careful about the commitments she makes, though it's still possible to manipulate her into doing something she might not agree to otherwise. Those who work with her know that she’ll hold up her end of the bargain or die trying- perhaps literally.

Sharing is Caring: Hungry? Robyn will split her sandwich with you. Cold? You can borrow her scarf. If it starts to rain, you’re welcome under her umbrella, and so on and so forth. There are very few instances where Robyn isn’t willing to share her belongings, if not gift them away outright, as is the case with most of the jewelry she makes. Even at the risk of her own well-being, it’s important to her to be as generous as possible. Not just with her possessions, but with herself as well; she always has time to help someone who needs her. Everything she gives is given freely- all she hopes for in return is to be liked, and she knows that’s far from guaranteed.

Food for Thought: Ever-curious about practically everything, Robyn is an attentive audience of one for anyone willing to teach her. She’s enthusiastic about learning, always full of questions, and willing to apply herself to make sure the lessons stick. She’s better at assimilating bare facts than life skills, but is open to finding out more about pretty much anything that comes her way. And if nothing comes her way, she’ll seek out whatever she can. In short, she’s a dream student for most teachers, and accidentally excellent at stroking the egos of those who like to lecture.

Flaws:

Curiosity Killed the Cat: The downside of immense curiosity is that it tends to get you into trouble, something Robyn knows all too well. Unfortunately for her, knowing about a problem doesn’t automatically fix it. If something is piquing her curiosity, she absolutely has to find out more. Even if she has to do something she knows is wrong, or it ends up hurting someone she cares about, she has to know; the bad feelings she gets when she sinks to a new level for her fix just aren’t as strong as the sick feeling that not knowing gives her. About the only thing she won’t do for knowledge is break a specific promise- beyond that, anything goes.

Everyone Out To Get You: Robyn is a prime target for bullying because she reacts exactly how most bullies want her to. Her self-esteem is practically nonexistent, making her take each and every cutting comment to heart. Fighting back, with either punches or words, never feels like a viable option. Due to past experiences, even if nobody is actively harassing her, she still sees everyone as a potential enemy, and will quickly jump to the conclusion that someone’s out to get her even if all they did was ask her for the time. Often, these are the same people she’s looking for acceptance or approval from, which makes her behavior all the more baffling to those around her.

Wave the White Flag: If you cannot win, why bother to begin? Robyn doesn’t really think that she can be successful at anything, so she has a hard time putting her all into any activity with a victory condition, because she’ll always believe it to be unattainable. This attitude sets her up for failure- if she doesn’t try, she really can’t accomplish anything- creating a vicious cycle that seems to prove her right. And if she ever seems to get close to winning at something, she’ll often panic and sabotage her own success, unable to deal with the possibility that she might have been able to achieve things she gave up on too soon.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: A rich honey color when they’re visible, which isn’t often because Robyn is usually looking down.

Hair: A dull strawberry blonde, falls just below her shoulders when it’s loose. Usually worn in Heidi braids to keep it out of the way- and to keep people from pulling it if she ends up in a fight.

Face: She has one!

Body: Petite. And by petite I mean tiny. Robyn barely hits the five foot mark while wearing thick-soled shoes, and is quite compactly built.

Clothes: Uniform. When not in uniform, Robyn likes cute clothes with fun patterns.

Negaverse Alias: Lieutenant Topaz

Challenge: Let’s wrap this up!

Uniform: Here!

Weapon -- Roll of Wrapping Paper -> Rubber Truncheon -> Lead-cored Blackjack

Hi DS! The only thing that I can come up is a hitch in her mineral name! Due to the mineral hitting too many factors, I don't think we can approve the name. Because the mineral itself is described as a Deeper blue Aquamarine, as well as being called the 'Blue Beryl' it conflicts with two characters already in play. However! I did some digging around and if you wanted to stick to a 'blue' mineral name I can offer these suggestions:

Phosphophyllite
Smithsonite
Sillimanite

Otherwise, if you have a different name in mind, let me know! Thats all on my side, <3

Before I go doing more research, may I ask what the deciding factors for ruling names ineligible are? I chose Maxixe for a few reasons, and checked to make sure it wouldn't overlap with Aquamarine before deciding on it. This wiki specifically states they're different, and other scholarly resources seem to confirm that while they're members of the same family, there are several differences, from ionic composition to absorption spectra.

So if the ruling stands, a little clarification on what not to do next time would help. If it's the fact that it's a type of another gem, where is this line drawn? Aquamarine (as noted) and Morganite are both Beryls, Pyrope and Tsavorite are both Garnets, and so on, so knowing what's allowed and what's not will help me keep from making any further mistakes.

Thanks for your assistance!

For shop standards and by reading what you wrote, Maxixe is actually just a very synthetic mineral that can only be produced by radiations of light, when the radiation of light is taken away, then the Maxixe becomes different forms of Beryl, most commonly referred to Green Beryl or Yellow Beryl.

In terms of the name, In our opinion is just a way of saying Dark Blue Beryl (which can only be seen by very rare instances of light exposure and radiation, and in the text you linked, it explains that when taken to the surface it looses color and turns to green/yellow/sometimes clear Beryl). We cannot currently approve a mineral name or mineral that requires certain instances/Very controlled situations.

So basically, in this case when the mineral requires a very controlled situation for it to retain its mineral name, then we can not approve it.

If you were still looking for blue gems, or perhaps a name, I can try to link some things again that might work!

... okay, now I'm really confused. Is the objection to the fact that the mineral shares a family with other extant Negas, or its composition?

There are existing agents who are named after entirely synthetic minerals (such as Hematine), as well as minerals that are typically synthetically altered (an example would be Prasiolite). That said, the resources I linked differently define Maxixe and Maxixe-type Beryl, the latter of which is enhanced through radiation, the former of which is named after the mine in Brazil where it was discovered naturally.

Decoloration of a stone upon exposure to light is rare, but it does happen! When this process is reversible upon returning the stone to a dark place, it's called tenebrescence (Hackmanite is probably the most well-known example), but some minerals lose their color permanently, unless treated with radiation: Kunzite is one such mineral. Proustite is another, except while Kunzite becomes clear, Proustite turns black and opaque!

So I'm not sure where to go from here, since no additional clarification on name overlap was given. I'm not concerned about doing the research necessary to find an appropriate mineral, but rather of having clear guidelines that I can follow when doing said research.

Thanks again!

The issue is that the ways in which Maxixe differs from minerals used for existing Negas do not, for shop purposes, constitute sufficient differences for it to be a seperate mineral. Maxixe returns to being Beryl or Aquamarine with light - therefore it is not sufficiently different for us to allow it, when Beryl and Aquamarine both exist.

In the case of Prousite, the mineral changes color but does not have a different mineral name or revert to being a 'basic mineral' when it loses its color.

Kunzite is a Canon character of moonshop, thus cannot be used for example since its a non playable mineral name as well!

While it's true that faded maxixe may resemble other forms of beryl (just like lots of rocks resemble lots of other rocks), it retains its other differences, such as ionic composition and specific gravity, and as such is still maxixe, just as dull proustite is still proustite. The fact that maxixe can look like other types of beryl when faded, and that other types of beryl can be treated to look like maxixe, doesn't make the two interchangeable.

While I wasn't bringing up Kunzite as anything other than an example of a mineral that changes when exposed to light, maybe this question will provide the clarification I'm looking for: would the name of Kunzite be approved under current shop rules, if such a canon character didn't exist? I'm sorry for dragging this out, but I really want to make sure I understand what the rules are, to avoid this happening again in the future.

Maxixe is losing more then just color, but its losing a chemical balance, making is composition to Beryl (of the Green and Yellow Varieties) where Proustite doesn't lose the chemical balance that makes it Proustite, it just makes it, as you said, duller.

For future reference as mineral names, So long as the mineral retains the chemical composition that its named for then its applicable as a name, where in this case because it does not retain a stable chemical composition.

Kunzite, would be a questable name because while it loses color, it still retains the final chemical makeup of Kunzite.

Maxixe unfortunately does not because it reverts right back into being Beryl.

Since my response to this would consist pretty much entirely of things I've already said, I think this is a good point to drop the matter. I don't get where you're coming from, you don't get where I'm coming from, and nobody wins, so all I can really do is try a different angle and cross my fingers it doesn't violate anything! Sorry for the difficulty, and thank you for doing your best to explain matters.

I've adjusted the name accordingly, and hope this works better for you!
