It was a market day. Nyiim did not have them often. He hunted and foraged what he needed to eat for the most part, but he found that trips into town really didn't bother him as much as they used to. In fact he sort of liked them, and now with his house finished and the war over it was time to buy a few unnecessary baubles to make the place seem more homey.

His face might have been off-putting for anyone who didn't already know the man; it was the same stoic half-frown he carried in all neutrality, although when he spoke to a shopkeep he offered a polite smile. It was like a switch, but he was getting better. He intimidated less people now, what with his height and fair musculature. He had paused by a low wall and sat, eating an imported fruit bought at a nearby stand. he wanted to taste one before he decided if he was taking any home. He hadn't been raised on much fruit after all!

Bosede sat patiently beside his master, watching for threats that would hopefully never come. Nyiim reached out and scratched the raptrix between the shoulder blades.

(( XD You liar! <3 ))

With a bag slung over her shoulder Syqvara heaved a heavy sigh. Her intent for the day was find something that her familiars would like as a treat so that she could at least work on getting them to leave one another alone. Since getting her kinfa Sy had had no peace between the two birds. Elyam always jealous and moody with the younger bird. The red head also suspected there might be some flight envy there as well.

In the market she didn't seem to shy away from people as much as she had in the past. Instead she moved with the crowd. Syqvara spotted a stand with some fruit that had been imported from other regions and thought that might be a good place to start. It was worth a shot. So she ran a hand through her hair and tucked it behind one ear before she navigated her way toward it. Sadly, she was unable to avoid that wretched habit of hers of running into people. Case in point, Sy managed to all but trip over Nyiim as he sat by a low wall. She'd not seen him there since she hadn't been looking down for a person. "Ah!" The young spirit worker flailed and tried to get her feet under her again before she fell.

Nyiim's foot must have been thrust too far out, because all of a sudden someone tumbled over it. Bosede stood quickly to get out of the way, but Nyiim could only reach up to try and help whoever it was from smashing their face into the well-packed ground. The hand tat held his fruit hit their belly and the other caught their shoulders. His arms were large and strong, so at least he could save someone a broken nose for today.

"I'm sorry!" he said, "I forget my own size at times--" A familiar face combined with the familiar yelp of surprise. Nyiim laughed. History did have a tendency to repeat itself! "Syqvara! I seem to always be in your way." He tried to help the girl to her feet before standing himself.

Bosede flapped his wings and began to rumble. Although he was growling, he leaned in to sniff at Syqvara's hand. "Don't mind him," he said, and then to Bosede: "Stop that. She's a friend."

The growling stopped immediately and the raptrix's tail wagged curiously. Really Nyiim would have liked for the hulking creature to have grown out of him over-protective and oft intimidating first reaction at the sight of people he didn't know or recognize.

Before she could right her own feet she felt a hand at her belly and one at her shoulder. And was that a fruit? "I'm so sor-- Nyiim!!" In the midst of apologizing she heard the familiar voice of the leaf man she'd met not that long ago! In much the same fashion, she might add. Sy broke out into a small fit of giggles and shook her head. "No, I am always tripping." Now that she was standing on her own she couldn't help but grin at him.

The growling from his raptrix made the grin fade as she looked at it but when Nyiim seemed to have the beast under control she looked at him with envy. "I wish my familiars would listen that well." With the small threat of being mauled was past she held her hand out willingly for the animal. "I'm harmless I swear. I don't think I could hurt Nyiim if I tried." Mostly because next to him Syqvara looked like she was still a prentice. Giving her attention back to the leaf man she looked him over, still very impressed with his physique, and smiled as a small blush met her cheeks. "How are you?"

Nyiim laughed with Syqvara and shook his head. "I didn't get any on you, did I?" He looked from the fruit to his young friend, "I'm sorry if you got a bit sticky. I've never had one of these before." He held the fruit up and turned it in his fingers.

"Oh! You have familiars now? What sort?" he asked. He didn't remember any at the rally or on the battlefield he had carried her from. Maybe they were new? He'd gotten unusually lucky with Bosede.

Nyiim nodded then in response to her question. "Well! I'm doing very well, actually. How about you? Just the same, I hope? Except maybe for a couple of rambunctious familiars?"

So it had been a fruit! Sy looked down at her stomach and noticed the tell tale shine of juice on her skin but didn't say anything about it. Instead she shrugged and looked at what he held in his hand. "I don't think I have either, you'l have to tell me if they are any good." And if there was a way to use it to train her birds, she thought.

"Ah.. well I've had the scorra for a while, but I left him at home during the battle." Mostly because she worried he'd get hurt. Syqvara also didn't want him to be left alone if something had happened to her, which was a good thing since she'd ended up in a healers tent. "I just rescued a kinfa. The two fight like rabid radaku."

"Glad to hear it!" And she really was. So far she'd gotten good news after good news about her friends. Dezani had stood up to his father and was enjoying more freedom and now Nyiim was doing well for himself as well. "I'm alright. I've not gone home yet.. I'm not sure how to face my mother and twin brother." Which of course meant that she had been camping out and roaming all of Tale. "Oh! I have been working on my spells though!" Rather pleased with herself she gave a confident grin as a hand went to her hip.

"They are, very good," Nyiim said. He'd likely be taking some home, but he wasn't about to interrupt their conversation with a transaction.

"Ah, I see. So you're more one for feathered friends." He paused and looked to Bosede, then ruffled the feathers by his head. "Not that I'm all that different, I suppose. I'm sorry to hear they fight. Bosede's really all I have, although there is a sailscale that likes to visit and follow from time to time. They definitely don't fight. It'd be rather one-sided if they did."

"Face them?" Nyiim arched a brow. Had she done something wrong? Well, they were family. Family loved and family forgave.

"Have you! Could you show me one?" He had stood nearby while she cast spells during the battle, but had been concentrating more solidly on the enemy until she'd been so woozy she'd needed to be carried to the healers' tent.

A good fruit to eat could be helpful. Sy would need to look into getting a few for herself and her familiars. "Well.. the feathers tickle but they aren't so bad." Then again she'd not really had a choice in the Scorra. He'd followed her home. A memory that made her smile. "I think it's jealousy that has them fighting. The kinfa is young and was injured in a fire.." So that meant she babied the little guy.

With a cringe she peeked up at Nyiim and gave a nod. "I may have left without really saying a proper goodbye or letting them know where I was going." And since she didn't return before the battle.. well, to say they would be worried and a little mad was an understatement. "I've been procrastinating."

Her face lit up when Nyiim seemed to want to see what she could do with her spells now. Though she did look around before giving a bit of a giggle. "Maybe not near so many people." It would be her luck that something would happen and she'd hurt someone.

"I thought it must have been a baby," Nyiim said, "At least it's only jealousy, then. Jealousy can definitely be worked-with. Is it alright? The kinfa?" Fires were no good for flying friends.

"Ahh. Well. I'd suggest going back quickly. You don't want them thinking you're lost out here, or worse. My guess is they'll just be happy you're safe, but I'm glad I got to see you again. Which settlement are you from? I'll have to visit and meet your fussy familiars." He hadn't had a traditional family for all too much of his life, but he had people who truly cared for him and he knew what it was like to not know what was happening in the life or someone you loved.

"Oh? Come on then," Nyiim said with a little smirk. He went over the back of the wall, which marked a sort of clearing behind the market proper. There was nobody there at the moment. He held up his arms as if to ask what her excuse was if they went back there? He patted his thigh and gave a little whistle and Bosede perked and jumped over the wall to be with him.

"Oh yea, he's fine. The singed feathers are almost gone now." Sy hadn't plucked them since she didn't want to add to the injury and she didn't have the heart to make the poor thing bald. "His wings are fine as well. I took him to a healer after we escaped the fire." She'd even taken Elyam, the scorra.

"I'm from Yera." One of the biggest settlements there were in Tale. "My house is on the outskirts of town though. My mother likes it quiet." Not that she blamed the woman. "You are welcome to visit anytime. You might even save me from my family a time or two if you do." Syqvara loved them but her mother was suffocating at times. Plus she was pretty sure her mother would try to lock her in her room once she actually did return.

As Nyiim basically walked over the low wall she stared after him with a sarcastic expression. "You would choose the one way I can't do without falling flat on my face. So evil." Sy laughed and shook her head but made her way to the wall and put her hands on it so that she could vault up and swing her legs over. When Nyiim said he forgot how big he was he wasn't kidding.

Oh, good! So the kinfa had only been singed. He had been imagining a much worse fate. "That was kind of you. When I found Bosede he had a broken wing, and it never set quite right. The poor boy can't fly at all." The raptrix perked at his name, though, and wagged his tail.

"Alright, I'll be sure to remember that. I'm from a much smaller settlement myself. Off that way," he said and pointed, "I'm not sure it's eve on most maps, but it's near enough to the market that I can't complain. I think technically we're a part of Yware?"

When he saw Syqvara preparing to launch over the wall he could only imagine her falling flat on her face again and laughed. "No no no, here." He came forward again and took her hands so she could step atop the wall and then step down. He knew already that he could support her weight so he wasn't worried if she slipped, and his height made it all the more simple.

Sy had to look more closely at the raptrix. She'd not noticed anything wrong with it's wings, so upon hearing that one had not set properly she was surprised. It looked good despite that. Or maybe the feathers just hid it well enough. The red head looked back at Nyiim and nodded her head. Yware she'd heard of. Though she'd not actually been there. If she remembered correctly though.. "I think I've gone past Yware but I didn't stop." Actually she didn't go into populated areas much anymore. Her familiars made that difficult.

Before she could flatten herself out on the ground again he'd come over and took her hands. She gave a cute snort and shook her head. "You keep saving me from meeting the ground and I might expect it all the time." Now she grinned at him. Amazingly she had grown enough to be comfortable and joke around with others. Still, she made it over the low wall with no problems since he was helping her.

It was true; Bosede's wing didn't look different from any other, but it had been obvous at first when he'd tried to fly and looked like a broken bird. He'd long since given up on trying, though, so there were less pitiful moments and more ground-chases than air.

"You'd probably have missed us anyway," Nyiim joked, and then helped Syqvara over the wall. "Of course. I'll always try my best." Once she was safely back on the ground, he stood back with his hands on his hips.

"Alright then. Try to not light me on fire, if you could."

A tsk left her lips and she shook her head. "I doubt that. If Elyam smells his favorite food he's on it." Sy chuckled at the thought. Her trying to walk along and then her scorra takes off in the direction he smells food. Not that it hadn't happened before.

Once Nyiim was clear, as well as Bosede, she took her staff out of it's holster (a loop really) and rolled her eyes at him. "Lucky for you then I don't know any fire spells. I might shock you though." It was here that she gave a mischievous grin toward him. Something that told him if he joked too much she might make his hair stand on end. "Now then.."

With a roll of her shoulders she cleared her throat and turned toward a rock that was not far from them. It was also within the clearing and away from people so she felt comfortable in summoning her magic to her. Syqvara made sure to focus and channel the energy into her staff. As it gathered in the crystal ball at the top she pointed it and released the static charge. Lightning leaped from her weapon to the poor rock and within seconds it exploded. Okay, she'd used a bit more force than was necessary. Likely Nyiim and his raptrix would be showered with small pebbles from the explosion.

Nyiim gave her a look back. Would she really want to mess with someone so much larger than her? Of course he wouldn't hurt her; he'd never dream of it. Hopefully she knew that. A minor tackle or lift in the air was not out of the question, however.

The whole process of magic was entrancing to him. He'd been with the local healer barely an hour when he'd been told that magic was not for him. That was fine. He'd found his calling. Most of the people he knew were healers, though; the type that used beads and certainly didn't put on such a display. This was impressive, and he watched the lightning strike and immediately ducked and held up his arms. "Spirits!" he yelped, but he was grinning. The flying pebbles bothered Bosede only enough to make him blink his eyes in annoyance, and then to shake them off. When the shrapnel had finished exploding Nyiim righted himself and laughed.

"I'm glad nobody was around for that! That's quite a lot of power!" It was a thinly-veiled compliment as well. The girl had always had talent, but that was intense!
