He was waiting for her there, on the training grounds. He'd discarded his hunter coat (it adorned some hapless dummy), and cracked his neck. It had been an incredibly long week and this was as good a way as any to work off some steam.

She didn't bother with her jacket, she never did for spars anymore. Too rough, too many chances for something to happen to it. She'd left it in her dorm when she'd headed out that afternoon. Shorts and the shirt he'd gotten her for Christmas, paired with a pair of colorful sneakers. Her hair was up in a pair of messy buns. Out of the way and hard to use against her. She knew her opponent. When She say him Pey flashed the taller hunter a smile, fingers idly spinning the rings on her thumbs round and round. "Horace! You ready for this?" It was teasing, of course, but still carried an edge of a challenge.

"Aw Sugarspun, did you wear that so I won't tear it up?" He made a face a Peyton, but still summoned Jannisari. She crawled up his arm in sneaking tendons and bones that seemed to come from thin air. It was something Horace always marveled at, both summoning and de-summoning. He snorted. "Born ready."

She smirks. "It was a thought, though upon further consideration I realized how silly that was." Mostly she wore it so he could see it, because he'd done well picking it out, and he should see that she enjoyed it. Brows arched as he summoned, and as the weapon's form began crawling up his arms her lips parted in a soft 'o' of surprise. "My, that's fancy." It was certainly a big evolution from the last time she'd seen his weapon. More impressive than her own had been, though she'd never begrudged her small weapons. They'd served well. < Are you unsatisfied?> There was a soft rumble of something unhappy. Never.

"I would say age before beauty, but, well.." He trailed of, the corner of his mouth quirking up in a smirk. Then he was rushing towards her. Surprise was just about his only advantage - that and reach. Peyton was fast and fiesty and dangerous. Just the way he liked it. HP: 50/50 DMG: 6 CHG: 1/3

Fast indeed. Enough to jerk into action as he came rushing towards her, throwing herself backwards enough for the blow to be less than it could have been. Not quite glancing, but not as direct as his aim would have given him. She knew him, knew how he fought and the sorts of tactics he employed. Knew his reach was almost twice her own. Strength alone wasn't enough of an edge, she was going to need that speed as well. For just a moment she kept her distance, watching him, trying to gauge his improvement since she'd last faced off against him. Stronger certainly, that was a given, but she imagined he was faster as well. She was going ot have to keep on her toes. HP: 54 DMG: what is going on with my rolls lately. /twitch CHG: NOPE

He made a face at her. "You gonna hit me sometime, Pey, or are we just gonna dance all day?" Horace ducked around her again. She was fast, but he'd gotten a little better since the last time they'd fought. Not close to her level, but better than he was. He'd be sorely disappointed if she didn't start hitting him soon. He recognized that a part of him craved the thoughtless sort of pain sparring was - not completely thoughtless, but consuming, strategizing, aching. It was.... nice. It was a bit sad that her hair was up, Horace thought. Hair was such good leverage. Instead, he aimed low, catching her hip. HP: 50/50 DMG: 8 CHG: 2/3

The strike to her hop was a considerably harder than his last hit, and Peyton had to hand it to him, he was definitely getting stronger. It "Oh, don't worry. I wouldn't disappoint you." It was kind of exciting, having another person around that she could call to go all out in a fight. It seemed a rare thing on the island. At least among those she could stand to be in the presence of. What she really wanted to do was continue to gauge him, but that wasn't what he wanted, and this was a two way street. So she'd slip in past that long reach of his, skirting under his arm so she could draw a quick slash across his side as she moved past him. "Peyton," he said gravely. "I am already disappointed." He stared at her in mock disapproval. The small slash had stung, but that was all. Horace wanted more, of course. Things like trying to tip her over would wait until she'd hit him harder. For now, he countered her slash with one of his own, ducking around to slash at her back. While there, he gave her shirt a playful tug. HP: 48/50 DMG: 4 CHG: 2/3

"Oh baby, how do you know I'm not just luring you into a false sense of security before I destroy you?" It came out sweet as sugar, a smile to match, as she pivoted to the side and swiped at him again. Leaving a neat little cut to match the first. "Maybe I just want to see what you've got first." "But what if I want you to destroy me?" He grinned. "Maybe I'll be doing a little of the destroying myself." His foot hooked around one of her slim ankles and he pulled his full body weight into her. If it worked, he might end up on the ground, but so would she. HP: 46/50 DMG: 7 CHG: 3/3

"What if I want you to destroy me?" It sent a thrill through the dainty hunter, goosebumps chasing along her arms. Distracting, enough for Horace to hook an ankle and send them both crashing to the ground, hard. The force was enough to knock the wind from her lungs, but this time, at least, she'd retaliate in kind. Daggers had slipped between them as they'd fallen, and it wouldn't really take much effort of her's, not with as heavy as the intermediate was, for his own weight to bring him down on the wicked curved blades. From there it would only take a small flex of her wrist, a little jerk, to dragged the hooked tips down either side as a cold little smile lit up her face. "How can I say no, when you ask me so nicely?" HP: 35 DMG: 10 CHG: 3/3

He hissed, brought immobile for a second by the feel of runic-sharpened steel slicing into his shield. "Now that's more like it." He grinned and twisted away, resisting the urge to ask for more. There was only so much he could ask of Peyton - a few minutes of unthinking movement, nothing more. The runes on his arms glowed more and more brightly, until they seemed to crackle with energy. Electricity arced up around his shoulders and Horace leapt forward, slamming into the tiny hunter. HP: 36/50 DMG: 23 CHG: 0/3 beejoux SCREAMS IT WAS MY TURN ALL ALONG

That was better but this was really not going the way either of them had been hoping. Maybe her mind wasn't in it. Maybe she was distracted. Peyton wasn't sure, only that something was a little off, and she was having a hard time wrapping her head up in combat. It just wasn't like her. She blinked as the runes on his arms flared brightly, crackling like electricity. There was a second to think how pretty it looked, then he was jumping at her, fists slamming into her much smaller frame, and she was flying backwards with a pained grunt and a small yelp as she hit the ground and bounced, rolling twice before coming to a stop. "Jesus Christ," she wheezed, pushing up on hands and knees. "You hit a lot harder than you used to." Of course two could play the charge game. < You're losing your edge, Halfpint.> Peyton snorted as she got her feet beneath her again, giving Warrick a mental shove as she reached for Fear he'd been gathering. He gave it willingly, spilling it into his petite partner with a satisfied, eager rumble. Red runes gave an answering flare, and with a small little smile, she was off. Charging back at the much taller trainee in a blur of motion and a flurry of quick, sharp slashes. HP: 12 DMG: 24 CHG: 0/3

"That's a start," he said after he recovered, hand pressing against his side where he could have sworn one of her blade sank a little too deeply. But his shield had mitigated the damage of course, and only bruises would mar his skin. Bruises that faded far too quickly. He straightened, muscles bunching. "And this is an end." His own cockiness surprised himself, but his grin never slipped. Horace barreled into Peyton, fists striking out as he sought to knock her off blanace. HP: 12/50 DMG: 13 CHG: 0/3
