The coal around her neck burned impossibly hot, making it impossible for her to feel the cold. The snow falling all around her reminded her of the ash of the fire and she closed her eyes tight against the sight. The more she tried to ignore it, the hotter the ember became until she thought it would catch her alight and she'd burn into ash. Her eyes opened in a flash and she glanced down at it, standing knee-deep in the snow. She had tried to gain some distance from the fire, but hadn't managed to get truly far. When the wind shifted she could still smell the slight hint of smoke. She shook her head to clear it to no avail. She shook her wings to free some of the snow from them before folding them back against her body and trudging on through the thick snow - facing away from the fire that had changed her life.

Yellow eyes scanned across the skies in hopes that the snowfall would soon stop. Seeing that it would not, the alicorn snorted. Long storms meant animals and ponies could become hurt. He shook his wings out to test the air for flight. The brisk winter air bit at his feathers and his exposed sides. With a deep sigh, the male curled his wings back in toward himself and began trudging through the snow. Flying would have made searching for injured easier, bit it would mot do for him to get injured as well. Silently he prayed that no one would need his assistance.

Ember: She kicked up snow as she moved, but son slowed until she stumbled and fell into the deep snow. She lied there panting for a few moments, her lungs burning. She wondered how much damage was done with the smoke she inhaled. She began to slowly become aware that the pain in her body was from several burns, cuts, and bruises from escaping the fire. Her eyes welled up with tears as she thought about all of those that did NOT escape. Why was she spared? There was no justice in this world. She wanted to give up, but knew she couldn't. She had been tasked, sworn to the spirits to atone for her failings. The burning ember around her neck reminded her constantly, lest she forget what it is she owes. Still, she was tired and weak and hurting all over and all she could do for the moment was lie in the snow and cry.

He remained on high alert as he trudged his path through the cold. The wind howled but he tuned it out while his ears twitched for the faintest call for help. His eyes stayed in constant motion as well, halting only for a moment on something off colored against the stark white. Every once in a while the male would shake the fallen snow off his fiery wings. After what seemed like a long time, he spotted what appeared to be tracks in the snow. Not wanting to disturb the path he took to the air to hover above it. The tracks were deep like an older foal or smaller mare or stallion had been trudging much as he had moments before. Concern washed over him as he checked the direction the moved. Just as he saw the figure, he watched them collapse into the snow. Without a moments hesitation, the alicorn flew quickly to them.

Ember: Her eyes burned, still working the smoke out of them. Her tears were starting to freeze and crust over but she somehow didn't care. She knew she should, but somehow her body felt far away from her. Was she freezing to death? The thought flitted across her mind but faded away before she could grasp it. Then again it appeared, more insistent, forcing her to pay attention. She couldn't die, not here or now. She had things to do. She tried to shake it off and stand, but she collapsed instead.

Once he was close enough he could tell the collapsed pony was a mare. He landed next to her as carefully as he could. "Miss?" He questioned to see if she was conscious while visually examining her injuries. There were several which made no sense for their surroundings. He didn't wait for a response before lightly tapping his horn against her neck letting his spell slowly wash over her. He wasn't the strongest healer, but he could heal well with enough time. Right now he needed to get her healed enough to move back toward his temporary cave home..

Ember: She opened her eyes and glanced at the vision before her. It made no sense to her to see this strange face before her in the desolate surroundings. Where was her mother? She was confused and closed her eyes again. Suddenly she felt warm, but pleasantly so. It wasn't the horrific burning of fire. Her mind began to clear a bit. She was still tired beyond all reason but she felt slightly less pain. She opened her eyes again to look at her rescuer. "Who are you? Where are we?"

His ear twitched as her question came to him, but he did not respond right away. Instead he continued his spell a little longer now that he knew it was working. After a short moment He pulled away from her slowly before speaking. "Are you alright? Can you stand?" He had not tried to purposefully ignore her own questions, there would be time for those later. Right now he needed to make sure she was stable enough to walk back with him for better treatment.

She blinked a few times, her body tingling with what she assumed was healing magic, now that she got a better look at the stallion before her. He was an allicorn, and one at least rudimentarily trained in healing. She didn't have time for embarrassment at her lack of knowledge, however. Right now it really sank in how much trouble she was truly in, particularly with the concerned look in the stranger's eye. Instead of answering directly she attempted to get her hooves back under her and get to her feet. It took a couple of tries before she was able to rise shakily to her feet, but she felt steady enough. "I might be ok now. Thanks." She was tired and still in pain, but she suddenly didn't want to burden the stranger.

He let a relieved breath escape him when he saw her stand. Standing was just part one though, now he needed to carefully guide her back the distance to the cave and hope she wouldn't collapse again. "Good," he spoke softly before gesturing with his wing. "Fortunately my temporary home is not far that way, we should make our way there before the storm picks up." His yellow eyes looked into hers still full of worry. It was still obvious to him that she was not alright.

She tried to search for excuses to leave the stallion's company, but was falling short. There was wisdom in his words, which she recognized when she glanced up into the sky. There were clouds building and she knew how dangerous a snowstorm can be. She was in no condition to make it on her own, and she couldn't permit herself to die out here without fulfilling her purpose. She bit her lip in thought but finally nodded her ascent. "Lead the way." She hoped she could move under her own power and didn't need his physical support to get there.

The stallion nodded his head before moving to take a slight lead. He did not want to pull too far ahead of her incase she needed to lean on him for support. Every now and then he glanced back at her to make sure she was holding up, especially once the wind picked up. "We're almost there." He spoke as they drew nearer to his home to where it was within eye sight. It really was fortunate that they had not been farther away.

She didn't see where they were going. Between her blurry vision and the snow that was picking up as they went it was all just white to her. The stallion was easy to follow, bright as he was. She was thankful for that. She let out a breath of relief when he said it was near though. She was shaking, her muscles were exhausted and she was afraid she was going to collapse again. She just wanted to sleep..

He gently laid a wing over her to give her a little support as they made the last bit of the trek. The wind had picked up heavily as did the snowfall. His sigh of relief on touching the caves smooth stone floor was very loud. He turned his full attention back to her to see how she held up on the walk. "What all hurts?" the male went into full healer mode.
