"Why don't you go in and grab something to snack on? I'll gas up the car and meet you inside." Mark Sterling said as he opened his car door by the gas pumps. "Alright!" Chailee unbuckled herself and popped out of the silver vehicle. Her blue and pink hair bouncing around her as she swung the door shut. The weather was still warm for the end of December and Chailee was quite content to be wearing jeans, a long, soft pink sweater, and brown boots with tall cream socks poking out the tops. They were going just outside of DC to see her grandmother for the day while her mom stayed home to begin to clean up the house from the holiday's festivities. They had to stop to get gas anyway, so might as well get some snacks for the ride. A bell jingled softly as she opened the door to the gas station. Green eyes quickly scanned the small convenience store before she made her way over to the short aisle where it looked like chips, cookies and other snacks were located. The variety may not exactly be large when compared to a bigger chain station, but it was more than enough to cause the 15 year old to pause and ponder over what she wanted. Walking in she had had no idea what she was craving and now having choices wasn't making it any easier. Did she want something sweet? Salty? Cheesy? Too many choices! Sighing she pushed her unruly hair behind her ear. "Maybe I'll start with a drink first..." She mused as she left the snack aisle to get herself a cup of hot tea. Thankfully the station had a small counter set up for hot drinks, and as she turned the corner to the aisle she nearly ran into a young man she hadn't noticed in her musings. "I am sorry." She said with a blush creeping across her cheeks at her folly.

Kazuo was in his typical red and black shirt with a pair of blue jeans and these boots Kraven convinced him to get. They looked chunky on him, way too big. The four-foot-eleven-inch man currently was sitting behind the counter at work, flipping through a magazine because it wasn't too busy right now. His hair was pulled back into a ponytail, leaving the illusion he had a mullet because the odd pieces that weren't as long as the rest were wild and going whichever way they wanted. Just as he licked a finger, he heard the chime of the door and he looked up to see a young girl prance through the door. With his head tilted this way, he watched as she scanned the store and closed his magazine. He got up to sort of follow her down a different aisle to watch what she did. He watched all the teenagers because, in Kazuo's opinion, they caused a lot of trouble. They tended to rearrange the items, steal, look at the 'naughty' magazines that weren't really that naughty, or they just loitered and littered, generally annoying the Japanese man. Thus he watched her, making sure she wasn't going to cause any trouble. What he hadn't planned on was the way she turned and ended up almost bumping into him. Kazuo gave a soft smile when she apologized and then held his hands up and shook his head. "No, no. It's fine. I'm shorter than the shelves some of the time.." It wasn't true, but he wasn't easily noticed with his size. "Did you need help with something?"

She smiled through the blush that was still staining her cheeks. "I just wasn't paying attention to where I was going." "Oh...um. Not really. I mean...I just need to make a decision on what to buy. I just thought I'd make up a cup of tea while I think about what I want." She brushed a piece of hair back behind her ear to keep the curl out of her face. "I am bad at making decisions sometimes." She shrugged slightly. She took a second to stand on tip toes to peer over the shelves to see her father through the large windows. He was still at the pump. Knowing him he'd also take the time to clean off the windows and check the windshield wiper fluid cause he always had a habit of doing that when they stopped. Lowering herself form her toes she turned back to the man in front of her. "Is there any kinds of snacks here you'd recommend?" There maybe that would help her decide? Otherwise she'd get her tea and stand in that aisle until her father came to get her and make a snap decision. "It's just for a short car ride out of the city and I am just not sure what I want."

"It's fine, it's fine," he said, waving his hands a little. "Don't even worry about it. No one got hurt and nothing spilled." He tried to offer the girl a helpful smile before she spoke again and mentioned tea. "Well, we have a few different flavors of hot tea. Since it's after Christmas, we still have a little bit of the peppermint, some pumpkin flavor I've never really tried.. But I prefer my tea green or black." He held up little packets to her and then just shrugged before she asked about snacks. Snacks were hard to figure out for a person. He didn't know if she liked salty or sweet, crunchy or soft, or anything else in between. So he tipped his head around and wandered down the few aisle for snack food they had and then bit nodded. "We've got some kettle corn. Sweet and crunchy, popcorn, that's what it is. We've got a ton of chips, but if I'm snacking, it's usually on something a bit more healthy. I eat a lot of baby carrots with ranch. We don't sell it, but we do sell ranch dip if you want to eat them with some baked chips?" He was so not helpful right now.

Looking at the packets so neatly fanned in the clerks hand it was really almost no contest which one she wanted. She was a girl of simple tastes. Without hesitation she reached forward and gently tugged the packet of black tea from the impromptu display. "I never really liked flavored teas." Glancing over at the hot water dispenser she noted the stack of creamers. The little blue packets were what caught her attention. Though she didn't care for flavored teas, French Vanilla creamer was always her favorite. It added that extra touch of sweetness that sugar alone couldn't add and reminded her of dipping sugar cookies in her tea. Cookies and tea were always the best. Chailee followed the ever helpful clerk around and back to the snack aisle where he pointed out his suggestions. She wrinkled her nose a bit at the idea of carrots and ranch. "I am not a fan of ranch...or carrots really. I mean, I'll eat carrots if they are cooked and have honey on them, but that's about it. Raw I think they have no taste to them." She shrugged but leaned towards the shelf to look at the popcorn that he had pointed out. She'd never had kettle corn in specific. Cracker Jacks, sure, but not kettle corn. Her parents had never been big into popcorn and as a result she never really ate it. That wasn't to say though she didn't like it. Plucking the kettle corn bag form the shelf she peered a bit more closely at it, intrigued. "Maybe I"ll try this. I remember smelling it at the amusement park." She glanced at the man. "That is kettle corn right? They usually make it in a big pot? It always smells so good!" Slipping the bag of popcorn and the tea bag into one hand Chailee held out her free hand with a broad smile. "I am Chailee by the way." She paused for a moment as a question popped into her head. "Um, I don't want to seem rude or anything but...how old are you? You seem young to be working here?" Mainly she came to this conclusion due to the young mans height but really, in her eyes, he could pass for someone around her own age. Well, then again, she -was- only a year away from 16 and could get a job then. A gas station seemed a more involved place for someone who was only 16 to work though.

So she liked tea, but also liked honey on carrots? What strange eating habits. Kazuo tilted his head at that and just laughed a little before shrugging a bit. More for him. He watched as she prepared her tea and then selected the bag of popcorn and moved to the cashier's area, lifting him up higher than the normal floor before she asked her question and introduced herself. "Kazuo Saito," he said, the name accented more than the words he usually spoke. "I am twenty-three as of this year." He gave a sheepish look and just bit down on his lip a little more as he straightened up his outfit and took her outstretched hand. He "It's nice to meet you... Chailee? That's a very unusual name. Pretty, though." He offered her a smile and then shrugged. "Your question is not rude at all. I am short and I have been told I look too young for a lot of things." The man laughed a little and shrugged, his cheeks flushed lightly. "Ah, will the tea and kettle corn be it for you?"

Chailee tilted her head slightly as Kazuo introduced himself, her brows furrowed slightly as she tried to place the accent but failed. She had heard something in his speech that was different but it hadn't been noticible enough to attract her attention until he introduced himself. "You aren't from around here?" She questioned hesitantly. 23?! Chay's eyes widened a bit. "I thought you were closer to my age. I am 15. Sorry." She blushed again slightly. The young man didn't look anything like someone who was 23 that was for sure. She wondered if it was an annoyance to look so young and be so old? She knew she wasn't a fan of being thought of as younger than she actually was but it was a common occurance as she grew into her teenage years. "Thanks." She smiled broadly. "I like that it's different. There's no one who has the same name of me in school." That in itself was a blessing in her mind. At Kazuo's question she nodded. "Yea. I think this is it." She glanced towards the door where she was just able to see her father who had moved to sitting in the car, probably waiting for her. "I think Dad is done getting gas." She reached into her back pocket and pulled out the $5 her father had given her and placed it on the counter.

"No, I was born and raised in Japan, actually," he said, giving her a little flush and cleared his throat. He got that a lot, that he looked a lot younger. Kazuo sighed and shrugged as if to say 'what can I do' and took the five dollars. He rang her up and slid the change back her way before bagging the item and slipping it back to her. "It is a very unique name. But I like unique names. I know someone named Kraven. I don't think I will ever find another Kraven, do you?" he laughed a little more and then looked down at her dad and raised a hand in greeting. "Thank you for your purchase, and I hope your day goes well Chailee!"

"Oh! That's so neat!" Chailee beamed at Kazuo. "I don't know anyone else who has even visited Japan!" She remarked as she handed over her money. She barely paid any attention to the transaction. She was far too focused on her new found friend. "Huh. Kraven -is- different. I'd be really surprised if you ever met someone else with that name again." With a smile she gathered up her change and stuffed it into a coat pocket along with the receipt. Glancing outside when Kazuo raised his hand, Chay caught her father giving a puzzled look before waving back. She laughed. "Thanks a lot for helping me!" She grabbed hold of the small bag her chips had been put in and took care not to spill her tea. "It was great meeting you! Have a good day!" She waved at Kazuo, the bag held on her thumb in the process before turning and exiting the small shop.
