So, this was it. Orin and Millie were going to go on a date. The mere idea made his heart flutter and his stomach flop and his ears turn red, but he felt flat out guilty that he hadn't exactly come clean to two of the most important people in his life.
He had told neither his father, nor her mother, and he was going to remedy that.
Well, find a remedy to at least one of those. His father wasn't home until late tonight, so he figured tomorrow was probably going to be a better day to inform him of their blossoming relationships.
But his dad would be easy. His father always supported him, and loved him, and liked Millie so it would certainly all go over well. It had to.
Bellatrix, though. He could only hope that she would be as supportive as his father.
So, here he was, knocking on her door, standing awkwardly and worriedly, for the second time this week.

Bellatrix had been worrying about Orin a lot recently. She cared greatly for the boy and when he hadn’t come back after the night he had stayed at her house, she began to grow even more worried.
Millie had been growing almost suspicious of her when she kept asking if he was doing okay, and she really didn’t want to open the can of worms of revealing that she knew of her daughters powered side…but staying quiet had been very difficult.
The woman paused when she heard the knock on the door and got up, putting the book she had been reading on the couch. When the unexpected visitor turned out to be Orin, relief flooded through Bellatrix and she hugged him tightly. “Oh I’m glad you’re all right. You haven’t been going out have you? Are you all right? Did something else happen?”
He was here at a normal time of day, so she didn’t know why she was so worried…she just…was. He was like a son to her. It was only natural.

"Huh?" he prompted, and then looked a bit guilty when he processed her questions. "I was going out, but I was being careful, I promise. I had some time to talk to some people and now I know I just want to get stronger so I can keep more people safe. I can't keep anyone safe if I'm just sort of hiding all the time, so I had to go out. But! I've met some nice people, so it's not all bad! And I was good and have been staying away from Negaverse agents. And youma, kinda. But I think…maybe I could do it again. I'm not sure. I might take a little more time."
He shrugged and then realized he could prattle on forever about Goretti—but he was here for Orin. "Oh, but—uhm. I actually wanted to talk to you about…something else. If that's okay? It's…it's kind of important. Kinda about Millie…"

“Well if you ever want me to go out with you, I would love to do so. I don’t want anything to happen to you.” She moved aside to let him come in and smiled warmly. “Can I get you something to drink or eat…ah…”
The smile faded when he mentioned Millie. Gosh why did he always make her think that something was wrong with the girl everytime he came over. “What happened? Is she okay? Did something happen to her this time?”
She was going to get so many extra wrinkles form all of this worry…and she supposed it was a good thing her hair was white already, or it would be going white just from Orin talking.

"I'm okay," Orin promised, flashing her a quick smile. "And Millie is, too. It's nothing bad, and nothing…" he looked around, leaned close, and then whispered, "powered."
When he was done whispering, he continued at a normal level, "But I'd love for you to come with me sometime, if you're worried. Maybe we could spar, too! Oh—but," he shook his head as if to clear his mind. Suddenly, he seemed sheepish again. "It's…what I came over here for is more like…well, it's…I…"
He swallowed, drew in a breath to calm himself, and then looked up at Bellatrix. "Millie and I are going to see a movie this weekend. But it's not like it usually is. It's a date. And…And I just wanted to make sure that was okay."

Of all the things it could have been, this was the one thing that Bellatrix was not prepared for. Not in the slightest. She stared at Orin and blinked slowly. “You…you and Millie are doing what now? Going on a date?”
Her mind was racing a mile a minute. This couldn’t be happening. Her baby…going on a date? The woman slowly made her way over to the couch and sank onto it, rubbing her eyes, seeming suddenly exhausted. “I thought I told Millicent that she wasn’t allowed to go on a date until she was sixteen. I told her no boys until she was old enough…but Orin…”
Bellatrix looked over, seeming so confused and rather heartbroken. “I don’t know. I like you, Orin. I do. I don’t want to tell you no…but she’s just not old enough to date. Neither of you are.”

Instantly, Orin's hopeful look fell. His heart was racing and his stomach felt like it had totally flopped. Of course he'd expected some nagging and worrying, but Bellatrix…had flat out said no?
"She's going to be fifteen in January," he protested meekly. "And I'll be, in February. And—" he faltered and swallowed. "My father didn't tell me I had to be sixteen to date. He said if I found someone I thought I liked, we'd talk about it. And I haven't told him, yet, but I wanted to tell you first because I knew he'd understand. I really, really like Millie, and I have, for a while. I don't understand how one year is going to make that big of a difference because I liked her a year ago, too. So it just made sense to date. I care a lot about her, so I…I don't understand."

“I just…” This was too much to process and too soon…but at least Orin was being honest and they weren’t sneaking around behind her back but…but they were just kids. Kids shouldn’t be dating…this was just so awkward…
Bellatrix drew in a deep breath and sighed, thinking for a long moment. Millie was growing up…and she was growing up so fast and…it was just so difficult to think about and she just couldn’t wrap her head around it…but…Orin was a good boy so…so it wouldn’t’ be so bad…at least Millie wasn’t trying to run off with some bad kid…and Orin was a senshi and he would help protect Millie…they would protect one another…
“All right. I’ll give you my permission…just…just be careful, Orin. Be careful with her. She’s all that I have and I can’t risk losing her, in any respect…”
And that included her daughter shunning her for not letting the two kids go on a date.

Orin breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help himself when he walked over and gave her a tight squeeze. "I'm not going to throw her over my back and run away with her. She loves you. And," his throat was suddenly burning and he felt warmer than he had when he first walked in here. His eyes were moister, but he definitely wasn't crying or anything. "…And I love you, too."
Softly, he added, "I never had a mom to look after me, but if I had I really wish she would be like you. I don't want to do anything to disappoint you. And I promise that I'll take good care of Millie and protect her and do whatever I can to make her happy. And—and I'll prove that I can be a good boyfriend! I'll do whatever you want. I'll learn to cook, and learn CPR, and get my permit when I'm old enough, and I'll get a job. And I'll never drink or do drugs or get arrested or cheat on her. And I'll remember every anniversary and we'll all get together for the Holidays. I'll do whatever it takes. I don't want to let you—or her—or dad down. I want to make everything perfect."

Bellatrix hugged him back tightly, resting her chin on his head, giving a little sigh when she had to strain to reach…he was growing up so fast…
“I love you too, Orin. Just remember that you’re just going on a date…you’re not marrying her…yet. Also, I’ve never had a son…but if I did, I would want him to be just like you. I’ll always be here for you, no matter what happens between Millie and you. You’re my family, Orin, and I am yours…”
She pulled away and poked him on the nose. “Now go and tell my daughter you have my permission to date her.” The woman paused for a moment and reached into her pocket, drawing out a twenty dollar bill. “Here. Your first date is at least partly on me. Have fun.”

Orin hesitated; he didn't want to seem rude and not accept it, but he didn’t want her to think he was a mooch. "All right," he said, "Thank you. But I'll make it up to you next Christmas." He carefully took the money and pocketed it, and then flashed a quick, hopeful smile. "And I know you don't have to marry a girl to want to treat her right. So I'm gonna do right by you and dad and Millie. Of course, if this new Star Wars movie is really bad, Millie might just break up with me because it was an awful first date, so you might not have anything to worry about at all."
He laughed briefly, still red faced and embarrassed, but gave Bellatrix another hug.
That hadn't been so bad.
Now he just had to worry about the date.
And telling his dad.
