Quote: Mist Hunter The Miss Taken Tower General Information As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.
The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.
If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.
If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.
Part 1 Mechanics - roll your regular attack - roll your regular attack again - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable. - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.
- Trainees: 0 recoveries - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery - Hunters: 1 recovery - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries
Part 2 Mechanics - there are two steps worth of traps in this room, so you'll be rolling twice
- roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll list: (feel free to get creative about what the traps actually were) (-50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd)
01. horrible death 02. - 50% HP 03. - 50% HP 04. live 05. live 06. - 50% HP 07. horrible death 08. - 50% HP 09. horrible death 10. live

Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: roll 1d4 - Mist/Life Trainees: roll 1d6 - Hunters: roll 1d6 - Mist/Life Hunters: roll 1d8

Seeing as she'd been here nearly a year and still hadn't been assigned to a single training course, Scout was beginning to feel a bit useless. She knew for a fact that she wasn't particularly gifted in any one field (which is why, she'd been told, she'd been placed in mist), but at this point it kind of felt like they were shunting her and preparing her for death.
It was certainly a culture shock compared to where she'd come from; back home she'd been somewhat well known in her small town for her prowess as an apprentice mechanic to her mother. People lauded her for how adept she was even as a child.
Yet now they had her carrying coffee and lifting debris, at best. Very different from her life before.
That and the impending doom that was spending her very first Christmas alone. She didn't have to, she knew that. She had a small number of friends who would have probably invited her to their parties and get togethers. The problem was that the idea of asking anyone to include her was downright terrifying. So she convinced herself that she preferred her loneliness without risk, that it was easier than getting rejected.
She did, however, take a small step of bravery to ask someone to assign her to the mist tower. They looked at her somewhat rattled for a moment, confused as to why someone would request it (not because it was particularly hard but because it wasn't really something anyone usually needed to request- it was a commonly assigned duty for many hunters).
Scout wasn't sure she understood the instructions as there was a lot of muddled information about hit points and damage and defense, but she did get the basic information that she had to rescue a princess and bring it and herself back safely.
The first part consisted of taking out some shadows, and Scout actually performed remarkably well. Some of the hunters around her even applauded her efforts. That made Scout feel a little bit better.Status Stage: 1 Your HP: 40 Princess HP: 20/20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 1 Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 1 / 1 Stage 4 Bonus HP: +2

If there was one trait that described Scout it would be "cautious." She always thought about her options beforehand, sometimes spending hours debating things before taking her chances. When she was told she was going to be sent into an area with tons of traps, she was similarly fretful, afraid of her every step.
So when given a flag to test her steps, she immediately threw it down. She was grateful for it too; the step immediately opened a trapdoor into an area filled with lava. Even with it being lava, Scout took a gulp. What a great way to start this course.Status Stage: 2 Your HP: 40 Princess HP: 20/20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 1 Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0 / 1 Stage 4 Bonus HP: +2

She only had to take one more step and then she was on another level. Well actually, she had 4 or 5 steps to take, but she knew that if she took one big one she could skip over a few. Then again, maybe they had anticipated that and traps would activate even if you hovered over them. Like a pressure sensor or a temperature gauge ...
Scout's anxiety really wasn't meant for this kind of thing.
Seeing as she had too many options, she took the first one that had come to mind and took a big step. Her sensitive ears picked up the fine-tuned click-click-click of a trap going off and she stepped just in time to avoid it. She couldn't even see what it was because she was so hell bent on getting the heck out of dodge.Status Stage: 2 Your HP: 40 Princess HP: 20/20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 1 Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0 / 0 Stage 4 Bonus HP: +2

The final floor had the fabled princess, tied and shacked away. Scout had heard many excited titters about how hilarious it was to see your friends in a silly princess outfit spouting words and she had admittedly been a little excited to see it, but when her eyes focused on the figure it was a complete stranger. Well that was a let down, but she still had a job to do.
Scout might have been a good mechanic and she liked working with machinery, but she was never very good with abstract puzzles. Especially not under the threat of death from an explosion. She liked tinkering with things here and there but that was when she knew what the parts were and knew what they would do. She wasn't an experimental engineer.
The first time she thought she had it, it blew up and nearly took her hand with it. Her shield was definitely hurting after that.
As she worked, she thought about her momma, guiding her through the steps of fixing breaks or changing a tire. It made her wince a little, to think about her mother, probably devastated and having to spend Christmas alone too.
It seems she isolated herself again. Dammit.Status Stage: 3 Your HP: 40 Princess HP: 20/20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 1 Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0 / 0 Stage 4 Bonus HP: +2

Next came monsters, but that actually helped Scout. She took the princess by their hand and led them towards the exit. God she wished she had Dawson's girth to just chuck the person over her shoulder.
The monsters were only distractions. She quickly cleared the first round.

The second round wasn't as easy since they really covered her, but she eventually made it through and down to the bottom.
Her superiors were surprised to see that she'd made it in one piece on her first try. Maybe there was some hope for Scout after all.
