If you could choose a Japanese name for yourself, what would it be? If you already have a Japanese name, do you like it or not?

I personally don't like my name, Ayame! It's wierd, few people (japanese people) actually recognize that its a Japanese name. Really annoying. And then everyone pronounces it wrong. If I could change my name, I'd change it to Kitsune or Akemi! Foxes are unlucky in Japan... so Kitsune wouldn't be a very good name. sweatdrop

i don't know what my japanese name would be if I had to choose. My french name in highschool was "Rochelle" biggrin i'm just used to being called "Rooren." My cat's name is Aiko, I call her "Yaiko" sometimes, though. or "Aikitty." Then I found out the baby princess in japan is named Aiko. One of my friends from japanese class named his cat "akira" I always tease how we should get them together.

I love the names Hideki and Takeshi for some reason (for boys of course). We had this adorable exchange student last year, and when I found out his first name was Hideki, I was like "oh, now you're so much more adorable!" On a side note I always wanted to meet a good looking guy named Sven, I don;t know why.

You should have "I already have one, duh!"
I have one...it's "Kaori"....it's okay....just.... redface when I think about my name it reminds me of Kaori Iida from Morning Musume. I rather have like a girly name that is short, with only two sylliables.

eek um...your teacher? You mean when you started school? Or is that your Romaji name? Like "Bob" is "Bobu" and "sally" is "Sari"...?

I'm not sure. I like Japanese names, but I like my name too... It kind of suits me now (I think you 'grow' into your name, so even if you later change it people can almost sense that something isn't right). However my romaji name is kind of silly, rushi... It makes me think of female kangaroo's, or reed beds and stuff xd

Hmm ... I sort've like my name, but it would be pretty neat to have a japanese nickname of some sorts. Oh I dunno ...

And I suppose if I were to have a japanese name it would be ... Aiko or Suki, since both mean "beloved" and that's what one of the definitions for my name is.

I've always liked Nami, for girls, and then there's Haru and Ryuichi for boys. Japanese names are just .. so very pretty *envy*

The story of Crown Princess Masako (Princess Aiko's mom) is really kinda sad, and not as romantic as you might think.

She did have a miscarriage because of all the pressure during her pregnancy. She's really suffered since she married.

But on a lighter note, I do have a Japanese name based on my English name. I even have kanji picked out (I have a book with kanji for names).

My japanese name is "Mitsuko". I don't know what it means, I feel stupid saying that, but I don't. I just got that name sent to me because it's a name that has been passed down for ages in my family, even though it's a common Japanese name.

I don't really want a Japanese name as I love my IRL name. I think Japanese names are really nice and pretty but I really don't think I have a favorite Japanese name . . . usually the names I really like from anime aren't really Japanese at all . . . eek sweatdrop Hahaha. There are few that I've heard that I liked but I can't think of any. sweatdrop

wisteria darling

PostPosted: Mon Feb 28, 2005 9:27 pm

I'd love to have the name "Fujiko" because wisteria is my favorite flower. But alas, I suppose I can give it to a daughter someday. sweatdrop

Technically my name in Japanese would be "Shinju" (Margaret = mar (sea) + garet (stone) ), but it really isn't a word for a name.

I really like more original Japanese names, I really don't like those two-syllable names... so boring kinda. sad

I'd love to name a daughter "Komako" which means "pony", because I LOVE My Little Ponies (and I could call her "My Little Pony" as a nickname, cute huh!?). But my husband pointed out to me how weird that name sounded.

I don't know much about Japanese men's names. They seem harder to remember for me, since they aren't derived from, say, flowers or other such symbols.
