Monsters?

With the recently discovered Yaeli, the land of Tendaji has been abuzz with talk and gossip about their new neighbors. They're odd, they're strange and skittish, their eyes glow - but that can't possibly be true most say - the word on the street is that they're starting to leave their island. Those that had met the Yaeli know that it's an odd thing to hear. They were terrified of the outsiders, why would they leave their safe villages...

Rumors are filling the toxic island where the Alkidikes extremists were banished along with the Matron. Rumors of monsters clawing their way out of the earth with oil black skin and glowing evil eyes that are even weirder than the strange monsters that landed upon their shores just one year ago. The Yaeli say that their gaze can steal the soul of any person dumb enough to get too close and they're vicious beings trying to take their children.

These rumors have reached the main land as well, mostly through the few Yaeli that have decided they would rather face the scary but similar earthling races than to have to find out what the terrifying monsters want with them and their land.

Is there any truth to these rumors or are the Yaelians seeing things?

Zuri wanted to go to Yael. She had accompanied the extremist, but was old she wouldn't be allowed to actually go on the island. Although she was annoyed with the choice she knew it was for the best, she hadn't been allowed to bring either of her companions on the ship with her and she wasn't about to go into unknown territory alone. On the ship she hadn't heard much about the Yaelian, or the creatures there, but as soon as she touched land once again it was like rumors flourished. Everyone knew all sorts of things about the Yaelians. It was annoying at first, but as time passed she heard more and more.

Pretty soon some of the Yaelians came and that was when things started to get wild. They were skittish by nature, so everyone worried about what could be so crazy that would make them leave their home island for the mainland that was full of strangers. Rumors of creatures that lived there were the craziest. There was talk of an oil black creature that came from the ground. It had glowing eyes, as many things from Yael did, and stole the soul of those it looked it. From her experience with animals there was no such thing, and she assumed that the superstitious Yaelians must have made it up to explain something they couldn't explain. That was normally where things of that nature came from. Fear.

"I saw one! I saw one!"

screamed a ice male as he ran into the bar she was currently drinking at. He looked mad and Zuri paid him no attention because of it. The words of a mad man weren't worth listening to.

"I saw one of the creatures with my own eyes!"

He continued, grabbing the coat of another man as he did so. Zuri rolled her her eyes as she drank her warm drink, only mildly pay attention to what was going on. If she was the bar owner she would have already kicked out the mad man, but it seemed he had the attention of some of the other bar goers. "Idiots..." she whispered under her breath. She was going to finish her drink and then leave, there was no point and staying and listening to more rumors about something she was doubtful existed.

      "Saw what?"

      "Where did you see it?"

      "What did you see?"

Came questions from all over the bar. They were hooked and she knew it. No way he was getting kicked out now.

"I just came from Yael..." The madman paused, as if he was letting everyone take that in. The pause was dramatic and Zuri began to wonder if he really was a madman or an actor trying to stir up some trouble. "I was there exploring when I saw it, the great beast! It was long like a snake, the skin black and shiny looking. It was despicable as it slithered across the ground. I could see it's glowing eyes, but when it turned to look at me I ran! I barely made it out of there with my soul!"

Quickly she finished her drink, drinking it much faster then she normally would have. It was getting annoying and the crowd was talking more and more about this monster. If the man's goal was to start a frenzy it seemed to be working.

Finally she could hear no more. Putting her glass down on the table, a bit a little too forcefully, Zuri cleared her throat. "People of Zena, are you really so silly as to listen to this fool?" Normally she wouldn't talk about one of her people like that, but this man was not only annoying her but getting their people worried about nothing. "How many 'monsters' have we face by now? How many that we not only destroyed but found that they weren't really as big and bad as some people claimed them to be." She looked the mad man in his eyes as she talked, the crowded bar becoming more and more quiet around her. "I'm sure this man believes what he is saying is true, but that doesn't make it true. I urge you to think back on the past and all that we've faced. Don't go running home spreading this rumor among the rest of our people and getting them all worked up. Let it die here, as it should, and go home worry free. We are not in danger from some monster from beyond."

With that Zuri nodded her head and left the bar, hoping her word held more weight then that of a mad man.
