Goretti barely knew what he was doing these days, but he knew he needed to start taking things more seriously. It was getting close to the holidays, but even that wasn't going to stop him; his father was working overtime and Goretti was using him as a role model.
…But he was still avoiding all Negaverse signatures, and even youma were sort of creeping him out these days, so he wasn't doing a great job.
Ironically, nothing bad had even seemed to happen when you were avoiding Negas and Youmas; even the crime seemed to be avoiding him. Not that he'd ever gotten in the way of stopping a person—a normal, non-powered person, but…
That might get him in more trouble, so he might have been better off sticking to the youma.
With a heavy sigh, he continued to trudge around—until he felt a very peculiar aura.
Was that…a cat? It might have been—he still sucked at differentiating between certain auras—but he charged for it, anyway, looking around eagerly for some cute little kitty.

Despite the fact that it had been kind of quiet lately, it hadn't been enough to stop Liryn from continuing to go out and about on his rambles.
The small tabby bobtail enjoyed being out and about at this time of year and peeking at the festively decorated shops and investigating the odd interesting scent and whilst there were some who perhaps might think it cold, the cold wasn't really something that bothered him overly much - not with his fluffy winter coat.
He had been padding in the vague-ish direction of the park when he picked up on his first aura of the evening, the aura warm and strong, a senshi by the feel of it and one that was super level to boot.
It didn't take much thought for him to shift direction in an attempt to try and track it down because whilst Liryn was happy poking into things on his own, a chance at potential company was so much better.

Is it okay for me to assume that this happens before Ida's disappearance Kyu so that poor Goretti doesn't end up with sad kitty? Let me know and I'll tweak if needed :3
Goretti didn't immediately find the cat—it was smaller than he'd thought, but as soon as he saw a little body traveling in his direction, his mood soared.
"Hey!" he greeted excitedly, waving at the cat.
He hesitated for a second and looked around; he wasn't going to admit it, but he'd had full conversations with cats he thought might be powered only to learn that he'd just been rambling to a cat that couldn’t care less for him.
"—Hi," he tried again, attempting to sound just a little less excited. "I'm Goretti and I haven't met you before. You can understand me, right? —Because I just had a forty minute conversation with this cat earlier this week because it looked like it had a star, but I think now it might have just been some coffee or something that got spilled on it. Uh, but you have an energy signature. I think?"
He looked around again, just in case.

Yep, that is fine with me! <3

Perhaps the aura had been closer than he'd been anticipating or perhaps he had made better paw time than he'd realised... Either way it didn't seem to take long for Liryn to cross paths with the source of the aura that he'd picked up on.
Well it was perhaps more correct to say that it didn't take long to be 'hailed' by the source of the aura, the source turning out to be a dark-haired boy in white, blue and orange and Liryn's purplish eyes took in the white spots on the boy's white-tipped orange sash before looking upwards.
He'd intended to return the other's greeting with a cheery 'Hi' of his own, but the boy continued speaking before he could get a word in edge-ways as he mentioned having a conversation with a cat-cat earlier in the week.
"Hi Goretti," he said at last after it seemed that the super senshi had finished talking - or at least had for the moment given that he seemed to be peering about and around. "I don't think I've met you either but it's nice to meet you too." He paused for a moment before continuing cheerfully "I'm Liryn and yes I'm a mauvian rather than a cat-cat. Are you out on patrol?"
Goretti breathed a sigh of relief and laughed. "Oh, thank goodness! I was worried. I mean, I should have been able to tell by the bracelet. Or. Tail-let? I'm not actually sure what you call it. Jewelry!" He just shook his head and laughed at himself again.
"It's nice to meet you, Liryn. But, yeah. I'm out on patrol. Sort of. I guess…I was actually just sort of walking around, trying to clear my head. I'm not…exactly a very good senshi. Trying to be, but…"
He sighed and shrugged.
"Not trying hard enough, I guess, because I'm still a chibi and still only super."

"Well actually apparently some cat-cats have jewellery" Liryn said with a cheerful laugh and thought about it and amended it to "Or at any rate there are pictures of cat-cats wearing jewellery on Google."
It was hard to know how much credence to place on them however because whilst some pictures looked like they might at least be feasible, others had just looked flat out ridiculous.
The cheerfulness had faded to thoughtful silence as he listened to Goretti speak, Liryn waiting for the other to speak before saying "I can't say anything about the chibi thing because I'm not really certain about how being a chibi works.. However things generally have a way of happening when they are time."
His purplish eyes were serious "However I can say that from where I'm standing it looks like you're trying loads given that you are out and working on patrolling."
The cheerfulness slipped back into his voice "And on that note would you mind some company whilst you patrol?" One purplish eye slid shut in a wink "I always find that things are more fun when there's company."
There was also the fact that Liryn wanted to take a look at Goretti's phone, although that was something that could come later if the chibi was up for the company.
Goretti would have been lying if he had said he wasn't disappointed to hear that Liryn didn't know much about chibi things—and it scared him. People usually said 'all things happen in time', but that was just a nice way of saying that he had to wait and see.
Goretti didn't want to wait and see—he wanted to grow, and be better now.
His smile fell—just a bit—but he tried not to let his disappointment show any more than that. Instead, he nodded. "I'd like company," he said. "I'm not really going anywhere special, but I'm just sort of looking around for now, seeing if anything's going on…I don't usually find anything, so it might be kinda boring. But if you wanna stick around, I'd still be happy! Plus, even if you don't know much about chibi things, I'm sure you know plenty about other things! Maybe I'll find what I'm looking for that way."
He allowed a new smile to grow on his face. "Do cats patrol, too? Do you fight youma? Or have magic?"

Whilst Liryn had no idea of the thoughts going through the dark-haired chibi's head, it had been hard to miss the way that Goretti's smile had faded slightly - at least not given the way that he had been looking straight at the dark-haired chibi.
He had assumed that it was because Goretti didn't want any company however and so he had been surprised - albeit pleasantly so - when the other had instead nodded.
"Great" he said cheerfully as he brushed against Goretti's leg, waiting to see which direction the other was planning to go in so that he could pad into step with him.
"And whilst I don't know about other cats I definitely patrol and I've also fought youma before. Some of them try to do the hiss-hiss thing but they aren't any good at it."
It didn't occur to Liryn that there were perhaps those who probably would consider that he wasn't particularly good at it given that on the occasions when he puffed up, he tended to resemble more fluffball than cat.
"And I guess we mauvians have a kind of magic - well we have a kitty beam - but it's kind of tiring to use" he gave Goretti a cat grin and another cheerful wink "And my claws are plenty good for dealing with trouble."
And then because he was honestly curious and Goretti had asked about magic first he asked "By the way what does your magic do?"
Goretti glanced in either direction and then picked one to start walking in; he was careful not to step on the cat but walked with a bit of a bounce in his step. Having someone to talk to filled him with a little extra spark of energy and a smile seemed to have cemented itself to his face. "I make glue puddles," he answered, though seemed to laugh at himself just a bit.
"I know it's not anything really impressive! And it doesn't sound as cool as a kitty beam! I don't have claws, but that's okay. I feel bad hurting someone else. My dad always told me that violence isn't the answer, except, I think…"
He paused and leaned a bit closer to the Mauvian as they walked. In a hushed voice, he finished his thought, "Sometimes it is. But I don't have the heart to tell him that because he just wants to see the good in everything, and he doesn’t want me to get hurt. I mean, I try to see the good in everything, too? But some people just need a good knock to the face. But, I like my glue puddles, because it doesn't hurt anyone. It just stops them in their tracks! Which is pretty helpful if you ask me, especially if I've got someone else there to do the punching. I keep hoping I'll get a little stronger and be able to take care of things on my own, but…"
He let out an exasperated sigh, but the smile lingered. "I'm having a really hard time getting there. I feel like I'm so behind. I'm just so afraid of letting everyone down."

"Actually I think that glue puddles sounds pretty neat myself" Liryn said cheerfully as he padded beside Goretti. "And a good way to stop youma from causing trouble."
It sounded like it would also be a good way to hinder other out to cause trouble - like pesky Nega-Agents - or at least he assumed that it would be.
After all glue was sticky.
The cheerfulness faded as Goretti leaned in to speak to him, Liryn's voice serious as he said "Yes sometimes you have to fight" because sometimes there was nothing for it but to opt for claws or a good hard n**...
Or in Goretti's case a punch - since humans didn't really go for nipping and didn't have claws - at least none worth talking about.
"The important thing is to be smart about your fights and it sounds like you have a handle on that."
Although the same couldn't really be said for Liryn - despite the tabby bobtail's thoughts to the contrary - given his propensity to impulsively dash into things.
The cheerfulness was back in his voice as he added "I personally think you'll be fine though."
They had been walking together for a bit when Liryn remembered that he hadn't yet had a chance to ask Goretti about his phone, his purplish eyes tilting up to look at the dark-haired chibi as he immediately sought to rectify it "By the way Goretti would you mind if I took a look at your phone at some point?"
Goretti cast the cat a glance and it seemed like Liryn's reassurance really got through to the chibi. "Yeah?" he prompted, but it seemed like a rhetorical question. "Well, if you say so. I'm going to keep trying my hardest." He reached into his pocket and fumbled around for a moment before he pulled out his phone.
He barely knew how to use it; he didn't have a super smart phone in his civilian life, so his senshi phone was mostly confusing to him. He had scanned a few people, sent a few texts—but he hadn't even gone to visit his planet yet. He wasn't even sure how to do that, and even if he did, he wasn't sure he was ready.
But he was getting desperate; he wanted to get stronger so he could do a better job protecting Destiny City—and the people he cared about.
(And partly because he wanted to prove to Lenka that he could do it and he wasn't weak, but that was totally something else).
"Here," he said, handing the phone over. "Do you need to text somebody?"

"No" Liryn admitted cheerfully, because his communicator meant that he didn't have to rely on borrowing a senshi phone as he had had to back in the past.
"No I just wanted to check your phone version" he admitted as his purplish eyes studied the phone that Goretti held out towards him for a moment.
He didn't need to look long though since it was clearly the old version and so after a few moments he continued "We have a new version see - well Ash and ********* came up with a new version" he looked up at Goretti his cheerful voice enthusiastic "And it's a lot more efficient with apps and everything and I can totally upgrade the phone for you..."
His voice trailed off as he remembered that not all senshi wanted the new model of senshi phone, before he added "Well at least I can if you want me to."
And if Goretti didn't then perhaps he could at least get the other to scan him into his contacts whilst he had the phone out.

Ash turned Liryn into a total convert when it comes to the new model cat_wink
"Really?" Goretti asked, immediately perking up. "I didn't know that! But, uhm. I guess I don't use my phone a whole lot because I didn't even know it could do that much. But—yeah, if you want to upgrade it, if it's not a lot of trouble, I'd love that! Oh, but I don't have any money. Or even any snacks to pay you with. Uh, but maybe I could get some?" he offered, quickly fishing through his pockets to try and find something to offer the cat in exchange.

Liryn couldn't help but feel a little bemused because it wasn't the first time that someone had asked him whether they needed to pay for one of the upgraded phones.
Eurydike had asked him about payment too.
"I don't need payment" he said cheerfully "Although I will need your phone" because he was going to kind of need it for the upgrade. "But I wouldn't say no to a few scritches after."
He winked, his purplish eyes bright "At least if you want too." Because whilst he had a not so secret fondness of scritches and wasn't about to turn down any that might be going - it wasn't something that was strictly necessary.
He smiled a cat smile as he added "I can also go through the different apps once I'm done if you want." Because whilst he hadn't commented on it, he had caught Goretti's earlier comment about not knowing that the senshi phones could do that much.
"Oh," Goretti said, eager enough. He nodded and added, "That sounds like a good trade to me! You can do whatever you want. You think it'll help me be a better senshi if I have a better phone?"
He moved to make himself a little more comfortable, supposing that it might take the cat a little bit of time to upgrade the phone. He wasn't shy about reaching over to scratch the cat behind the ear—in fact, he seemed like he'd been waiting for the opportunity and couldn’t have been happier to have not only the chance but the invitation!
