Remember the Wind

Today was the day!

Emerging from her secluded grove of birch, Seresai blinked owlishly at the bright morning light. Still early by any reckoning, which meant she had plenty of time to see to preparations for the feast to follow.

Today was the day her adopted son Gen underwent his adulthood trials along with the rest of the young colts and fillies from their herd. Unlike the others, however, Gen had already proven himself as a responsible young stallion - these trials were a mere formality following his training with the Angeni of Chivalry. Still, Seres was proud of him for making it this far, and she had made sure to send messenger hawks far and wide to let her distant family know that one of their own had cleared a major hurdle in life.

The message was short, but sweet. It let them know that they would be welcome to come and celebrate. To catch up. To stay awhile, if they wanted.

Wistfully she thought of her brothers, Tiarnan and Galahad. The first she was unsure of, but the second ...

Hopefully he'd come. Hopefully they would both come. Gen didn't know either of them, and it pained her that the only male in her family that her son knew was her cantankerous sire. Gen didn't know about Galahad's compassion, or Tiarnan's creativity ... he'd never heard their jokes or seen their smiles. Seres told him about them, of course, but she'd stopped when the black colt had asked if they were staying away because of him. How was she supposed to tell her son about her father? That the prejudice he barely kept in check these days had sundered their family years ago? Crousader was one of the few role models Gen had, and an important teacher. She couldn't diminish that, not when Gen was so afraid to hurt her.

No, she'd hope her brothers would come home ... just this once.

Wasn't sure if you wanted one of yours to find them (or just Galahad) or if you want Galahad and/or Kaiya to stumble on yours. xD I'm cool with whatever.

The journey had been long -- the fact that the hawks had found the at all was nothing short of a miracle -- but Galahad had been delighted by the news. He had been unsure how it would be recieved when he spoke of it to Kaiya, but the Angeni had found the news quite welcome. It was destiny, she had said, that they shift their journey closer to Galahad's homelands. If this was where the spirits wished them, then it was there that they would go. So, the duo had changed courses, and had made the trip back to the Elderwillow Camp.

It truly had been too long since he'd returned. While Galahad was happy to be in his current company, a homesickness had gripped him as soon as they drew close to his families lands. The familiar scents and memories had reminded him of his brother, his sister, his mother, and yes, even his father. While Galahad was unsure how Crousader felt about him walking a more spiritual path, he liked to believe himself mature enough to be able to handle any judgment that might come his way. The life he chose fit him well. . . and he wasn't going to let his father ruin things. Still, perhaps what was most anxiety inducing for the stallion, was the fear that he had somehow let his family down.

Or worse, abandoned them.

He had left under Kaiya's tutelage at a young age, and a day didn't go by that he didn't worry about his family, or wonder at his choices.

Bah. This wasn't a time or place to think about such things . . . All he wanted to do now was catch a glimpse of a familiar face! "We're not far now," he assured his mentor, his excitement clear within his hurried pace, and bright green eyes.

Kaiya herself followed along at an easy gait. She was never in much of a rush, and was enjoying the scenery. She had passed this way when Galahad was hardly an adult, which is what drew him to her side originally. Still, the dual eyed mare had plans of her own. Returning to these lands might fit well with what she'd been considering. . . . and the eagerness within Galahad was only making her more and more certain of what she would need to do.

Still, she would keep such thoughts to herself, until the time came to confess her plans. Giving her wings a bit of a stretch, the mare smiled warmly at her companion. "I remember these trees and these hills. By all means, young lad, if you wish to seek out your family first, than do so. I'd rather not interrupt a family reunion."
