Today had been one of the better days; mom and pep had stayed off each other's back for once regarding the farm and he was slowly acquainting himself with his classmates. Maybe Destiny City wasn't all that bad, but that didn't stop the cranberry senshi from still being slightly perturbed. Something else had become a thorn in his side: the fact he was a senshi at all.
Having escaped to the streets once more through his room window, Cadmus walked the quiet park with his arms knotted across his chest and his eyes downcast in thought. Ever since his awakening, he had been using his powers more like a toy than toward the goal actually doing something heroic. Eventually, jumping from rooftop to rooftop had lost its charm, and it had caused Cadmus to really start thinking about this senshi thing. Prying his arms apart, he stared down into his gloved hands, and frowned.
I can shoot cranberries from my hands, he thought. What kind of power is that? It isn't even cool.
He then turned his eyes skyward and glared at the starry-speckled night. "Why couldn't you give me something useful?" he said to the powers of the heavens above. "Like super strength or something? Why me? I... I don't even know what I'm supposed to do..."
That was the key dilemma within him: What was he supposed to do? Just fight youma? Keep off this thing called chaos? He had so many questions and zero answers.

Lenka had been watching the chibi senshi for a few minutes now, and she had decided a few things. One, he had to be some sort of senshi based on something. Duh. Duh Lenka, that was a stupid thing to even think. All senshi were based on something…but maybe he was some type of fruit? Cherries or…something. Whatever he was…his fuku was just so…so red. The second thing she was sure of…was the fact that this kid had no idea what he was doing…and he clearly hadn’t made many friends on the right side of the war or one of them would have surely been with him telling him he had to be a good boy and patrol in pairs and…
And all that nonsense. Chibis were just as good as regular senshi. Better, even. If they would just be given the encouragement that they deserved.
“You know, you have more strength than the average human, and you can jump a heck of a lot higher, and you’re faster than most senshi right now. Chibi senshi have the benefit of a lot more speed than most. I tell you, I miss that sometimes. I felt fast as the wind.”
The eternal senshi plopped down next to Cadmus and held out a pink gloved hand. “Sailor Lenka, Senshi of Watermelons at your service. I’m guessing you’re pretty new to this…want any advice, or any questions answered?”
She grinned, kind of maybe hoping she would have startled the boy. Just because she was trying to be a positive role model didn’t mean she couldn’t have fun doing it.

Cadmus screamed.
Loud.
An ear-splitting, deafening bellow that would've shattered glass if his powered were based on one's voice, not bouncing berries. He whipped around and thrust his hands out before him ready to fire a wave of them should the owner of the voice be a threat, but he calmed immensely when he saw it wasn't a youma, but a girl. Another senshi, it seemed, but this one appeared to be older.
He blinked a bit at her explanation and eyed the offered hand wearily. "W-watermelon, huh?" he said, studying her uniform as he slipped a gloved red hand into one of pink. Just at a glance, Cadmus could tell. "I'm Sailor Cadmus, senshi of cranberries. Nice to meet you, especially at," he slipped his hand from hers, "such a convenient time. You see, um, I'm confused." His pause here seemed to be for dramatic effect, but was more for the fact he wanted her to explain. Realizing he wasn't specific, he quickly added, "A-about everything. Absolutely everything. First I was awakened in this really weird costume with tassels—seriously, tassels!—and then I fought a youma and met other senshi and I said I'd be a hero and I am just so confused." The boy cupped his face in his hands. "Why, though? Why the monsters? Why these powers? Is there... Is there something going on? Are people in danger? What the true meaning to all of this?"

Lenka didn’t mean to laugh, and she was really, really proud of herself that she kept her laughter to no more than a slight snort, which she turned into a cough. She really hadn’t wanted to scare this kid, she just…but oh, that was too good. “Sorry about that, but you really should keep on your guard a little bit better, I mean, if I was just a civilian, yeah sure that’s one thing, but if I can sneak up on you with my aura being so strong, what’s to stop someone who wants to kill you from sneaking up behind you?”
She listened to his questions and nodded. “I get it. They don’t tell you much when you start all of this…it’s kind of rude, to be honest, but…yeah. You are pretty much a hero. I was a chibi senshi when I started this, I was ten, and now I’m fourteen, and look at me, I’m a real senshi, so that’s a pretty cool perk. As to why…I don’t know why. Because there’s chaos, I guess. If there wasn’t chaos, we wouldn’t be needed, we wouldn’t need to fight…but there is chaos, there are bad, evil, awful people out there who want nothing more than to reach in our chest and rip out our starseeds. Um, if you don’t know what that is, it’s pretty much your soul in crystal form, at least that’s what I feel.”
The senshi drew in a breath and sighed. “As for the tassels, there’s nothing you can do about those except for get stronger and hope they go away when you level up to a super senshi.” She laughed and shrugged. “I mean…look, I’m going to level with you right here. There are going to be people who try to rip you down because you’re a chibi, and I am telling you now, and pardon my French but, ******** ‘em. You are as good as they are, and one day, one day you’ll be better. Chibis get the benefit of early training, we’ll get…er…you’ll get muscle memory and you’ll be a real fighter by the time you’re a regular senshi, you’re the future, and don’t you forget that.” Her voice was firm, and this was clearly a thing she wanted to fix now that she was no longer among the ranks of the chibis. Now that she had a louder voice.

When Lenka explained what a starseed was, the boy reflexively splayed a hand on his chest. It sounded like something out of a horror movie; ripping one's soul out of their chest. The fact that such a threat hung over him because of chaos made a tremble pass through his form. He glanced down to the grass at his feet, nodding his head in response to Lenka's explanation.
"I didn't... know there was so much to this," Cadmus said. "I mean, I was attacked before I was awakened. Nearly died! To think there would also be people who'd look down on you for even..." He didn't go into detail again, but that's because his thoughts were muddled for a moment. "I couldn't help it if I was awakened to save my life, but people would look down on me for that? Yea, f-f-ffff—" It was almost out. "F-fuh-feck them, honestly!" Eh, close enough. "I guess tassels are the least of my worries, ahaha... Thank you, though." He smiled to her. "What you said really helped... Wait, you're saying I won't be this way forever?" Cadmus tilted his head. "At what age did you become a "regular" senshi?"

“Well I’m glad that you didn’t die! How else would we have met!” She grinned, and laughed at his attempt at cursing. She remembered when she was so young and bright and…uh. Not so potty mouthed. “You’ll get the hang of this, I promise! It’s hard and annoying at first, but if you find friends and stick with them, you’ll turn out fine. I did. And I became…a ‘regular’ senshi when I was fourteen! I was up on my asteroid once and I found a wild watermelon and of course I smashed it and got some seeds, and I grew some of my own, and I went up with uh…uh.”
She paused, face reddening a little. “Well I went up there with the guy I like when my watermelon was all grown, and we had a picnic, and I ate a bite, and then I felt really strange…and suddenly…BAM. Here I was. No more Chibi Lenka, I was just…Lenka…and it was awesome!”
Lenka laughed and picked at her gloves for a moment. “Have you been to your homeworld yet, Cadmus? Do you know how to get there? It’s pretty neat, the fact that we can go to space…If you want, I can bring you to mine sometime!”

Cadmus returned her laugh at his attempt at being more adult with a sheepish smile. He'd work up the courage eventually. When she answered his question, his mouth drew to a small O, and he counted his fingers the about of months until his next birthday. He winced at the wait. "Well, it's not that far away, but waiting's gonna be a problem." The boy sighed. "So I have to eat a watermelon? That's... interesting. And it has to be with s-someone I... like? Blegh, no thank you."
The boy blinked next. "Space? You mean I can—" Cadmus pointed to the sky. "I can literally go to space? To Cadmus? Err, the Cadmus in space?" He shook his head. "I've never been there, but if I can, hoooly crap, that's really cool!" He nearly hopped up and down. "I would love to visit yours too!"

“Well, I don’t know if you’ll have to eat a watermelon…that’s just what happened to me! I’m assuming that it’s different for everyone, since you know…nobody’s the same, but it’ll be up to you to figure out what to do…honestly I haven’t met another chibi who’s become a real senshi yet so…I don’t have any other examples to give you at the moment!”
After a moment, Lenka drew out her senshi phone and held it up. “You have a phone right? The cat who gave you the way to unlock your powers gave you one, I hope. This is one of the best resources you have for being a senshi. This is the best way to communicate with other senshi you’ve met, and this is the tool that helps you get up to space…because yes, you can go up to space, to Cadmus. In space.”
She grinned and pointed at the center button on the phone. “All you have to do to go, is concentrate on…on Cadmus, relax and clear your mind, and focus on wanting to be there…and press this button, and you’ll go!” She did not press the button to show him, not wanting to head up to Lenka just now, but the message was given to him, so the eternal senshi snapped a quick picture of the chibi.
“How about you and I meet up again soon and we can take a trip up to my asteroid. I can send you a text with my phone…but expect it in about two weeks or so? That should be enough time for you to meet more people and to get more used to all of this crazy stuff! I’ll bring some food and we can have a picnic up there! It’s really nice up there, it really is. Maybe I can introduce you to my friend, Goretti. He’s still a chibi too, I’m sure he’d love to meet you!”

Cadmus put a finger to his lip and started to connect the dots. So I gotta do something myself... Huh. I have to be sure to look around when I eventually go to Cadmus. Maybe I can even become a full senshi before fourteen!
"Oh, ah, yea, I do!" Cadmus said as he pulled out the device from his pocket. He hadn't had the chance to look into what it did or, well, even remember it was a thing because he thought his own human phone was so much cooler. Running a thumb over the buttons, it stopped on the one Lenka pointed at at the center of the dial pad. "Huh, that's pretty convinient." He was incredibly tempted to give it a press and see what would happen, but the older senshi drew his attention away from it.
"Oooh, yea, sure, that sounds like a heck of a lot of fun!" Cadmus said, almost cheered. The wait for this planned picnic would take more of an arduous effort then him turning fourteen. "I'll be sure to bring something to, if I can and it'd be great to meet this Goretti person. The more the merrier, as they say!"

“Then…I’ll text you with the senshi phone a few days before the picnic…we’ll all bring something, and it’ll be great and we can talk about everything! He’s been a senshi for a pretty long time too, I mean, not as long as me or anything, but he is a super senshi, so clearly that does count for something.” She grinned and stood up, stretching and flipping her long raspberry colored hair over her shoulder.
“I think we should be getting home though, it’s getting late and I’m getting pretty tired to be honest.” Lenka looked the pink haired chibi up and down for a moment and nodded slowly. “I do have one last piece of advice, and this is only because it’s what I did while I was a chibi…I used to bring a bag with me when I would henshin up, and I would leave it on the ground so it didn’t disappear like my clothes…but in it I would bring one of my plastic lightsabers, and those things are pretty good against youma…if you hit them until they turn to dust, it’s better than having a lame attack that doesn’t seem to work half the time at any rate…so if you have anything like that, I’d bring it! Something portable that can aid you while you’re out here alone, either that or do try to have someone you can patrol with, at least until you’re super. They gave the chibis the disservice of making them less powerful than regular senshi, so even though we’ll…you’ll be the powerful ones in the long run…right now you have to work twice as hard.”
She gave an almost apologetic grin and waved. “I’ll see you soon, Cadmus. Don’t forget to bring food for the picnic! I won’t forgive you if you make me bring it all, just because I’m the oldest.”

Cadmus's mind was already thinking two weeks ahead. Could he ask his dad to make something? The boy didn't really know his way around a kitchen and with his mom gone, the only one he had to rely on was Rigel. Though he might get suspicious if the serving is too big. Hmm. He'll think of something.
Just before he turned to leave as well, even raising a hand to wave off Lenka, he stopped. "Y'know, that's... a really good idea." He reflexively looked at his hand when he said this. His powers really did suck despite its potential. Taking the time to carry a weapon around with him would be really, really helpful. "Maybe I can whack at youma with my skateboard. Worth a try in the future. But I totally have the strength to take 'em down. Those youma don't stand a chance against me." Cadmus was bluffing a bit (he was more scared than determined at that point), but willing to put on airs just for Lenka because she had so much confidence in him.
"See you later, Lenka, and I definitely won't! In fact, I'll bring the most food! Bye!"
With that, the chibi bounded off into the night looking forward for his future plans with the older senshi.

Lenka watched the chibi run off and grinned. This was going to be fun. Mentoring a chibi was going to be a lot of fun. Though, it really did still feel strange to be on the other side of it. To have to call the chibis them, rather than calling them us. It was strange…and sort of sad. Though, she could help them. She knew the potential they had.
And she could help them find it in themselves.
With that thought, Lenka made her way home. Ready to tackle whatever was to come in the future. And ready to plan an epic picnic.
