The crisp, cool night was suddenly broken by a high-pitched laugh as Cadmus fell to his side and rolled back and forth after having lost his footing. Ever since being awakened, escaping through the window of his room to the darkened streets of Destiny City had become a daily routine—anything to get out that house he was now supposed to call home. He was slowly situating himself to his new powers. Unfortunately, the only he knew how to do was run and take death-defying jumps from rooftop to rooftop. Even then, Cadmus could never make the landing, and ended up a laughing pile of ouch rather than anything heroic with each attempt.
That never deterred him, though. "It sucks," he said aloud to no one in particular, rolling to dangle his legs off the roof edge. "Eventually, I'll get really, really strong and save everyone. Every hero starts somewhere, right?" It was a cheesy enough realization that it nearly made the thirteen year old gag, but there was no one around to hear, so he didn't mind talking pompously to himself. Standing, he gave a fist pump to the air and sealed his promise then and there.
"I am definitely going to get better!"
With that, he began a running jump to the next rooftop only to catch his foot on the edge and elegantly face plant. Man, I hope... I hope I become a respectable hero fast...
a-disgruntled-dragon Hope this is good enough!

Heroics was not on Iduna's to do list. In fact, a good night sleep and trying to do well in school was top priority, not wandering about at night as a magical girl. It hadn't been priority for months; in fact, Iduna had all but hidden her pen and ignored it after hearing about the whole monster train thing. To be truthful it terrified her to fight monsters and sneak out at night to drop rotten apples on people's heads.
She wasn't even that good at fighting, to be frank.
But, when your house was just as dangerous, you took the lesser of the two evils. Iduna didn't really care that she'd wandered far from her normal patrolling, or that she'd figured out "oh hey I can actually jump really high". It was an escape from a toxic house where she had no other alternatives to, and she'd take it.
The rooftop was quiet, and she had to admit the view was really pretty. The city almost seemed peaceful and calm, though she could still feel blips of power moving about. One such popped up behind her, and then made a wonderful thudding sound into the roof. She turned to see a boy about her age with bright red hair getting comfortable with the roof.
"You okay there?" she asked, tucking a strand of blue hair behind her ear.

Above the pair of children, a rather omninous shadow circled, content to watch and observe. For the time being.

Cadmus sniffled and pushed himself back up to his feet. As he rubbed his throbbing nose, he said, "Yeb, I'mb fine! Jusb a bab fall!" It took a long, significant moment for the cranberry senshi to register that someone, high on a rooftop—someplace obviously not reachable by basic human standards—had addressed him. Someone, he hadn't realized, was also a powered-up individual. When he realized the little tickle in the back of his head wasn't from his fall, but from an energy signature, he gave the individual an incredulous look.
"Oh wait, you're—" he began, but then felt his voice catch in his throat. This person was the same size as him. And a girl.
A gurl.
"No way, what's a girl doing here?" he suddenly squawked out. Realizing that his words came out a little wrong, he added, "Oh, I didn't mean it like that... I mean, um." He scratched the back of his neck and glanced away. "You're the first girl I met that's, like, also a senshi. If you are a senshi, I mean."
Good going there, you idiot, he thought.
He was quiet for a second before adding, "I'm Cadmus. I recently found out I was a senshi. Who are you?"

Iduna blinked, frowning at him. What was a girl doing here? Did he not know a good portion of the senshi were girls? Which, admittedly, she only knew by proxy. Cadmus stumbled over himself and attempted to make up for his transgressions and made up for it as best he could. To be fair, Iduna only really knew very few boy senshi - this would be the second she'd met - and couldn't really tell him otherwise.
"Yes of course I'm a senshi. Iduna, I've been a senshi for about a year now. Do you usually get comfortable with roof tops?" she said, brattiness sinking into her voice. It was a defense mechanism, but one that usually drove people off.
She opened her mouth to continue when a screech broke the air, and a mass of black and darkness plummeted to the rooftop. It caught Iduna in the shoulder with one of it's talons and pulled her to the floor. One arm got stuck beneath her, and for the moment she was pinned down.
A youma?!Unoderi A vulture youma has pinned Iduna down!

Her words had a bite to it, that much Cadmus could admit. Just as he was about to open his mouth to a retort, Sailor Iduna was pinned down. The pink-haired boy's jaw hung open as he stared on in shock, trying to collect his bearings.
"H-ho-holy crap!" Cadmus shouted. "Whatisgoingon?! Ididn'tsignupforthis!"
His immediate action was to turn and run, but that monstrous bird thing had his new acquaintance in its clutches. He was her only help and, yet, Cadmus couldn't act yet. His knees knocked together as he shivered in fright.
I... I only faced a youma once. Once, when I was awakened, I can't do this again! his mind tried to rationalize. There's no way I can save— Wait. His legs stopped shaking. It's just a youma. I defeated the first, I'm sure I can do it again!
He bit his bottom lip and shut his eyes. Concentrate, concentrate... When he found the will to act, his eyes snapped open. Cadmus clapped his hands together and then thrust them in the direction of the youma. "Bouncing Berry Blitz!" he shouted. Cadmus still thought his power was lame, but it had its use—a medium wave of cranberries suddenly erupted from his hands and bounced towards the youma with hopefully enough power to knock it off Iduna.

Her first instinct was to scream. Her second was to snap at Cadmus to do something already! The youma tore at her fuku, intent on shredding her back wide open when suddenly cranberries knocked into it. The youma squaked and let go of the blue haired chibi's fuku, tumbling into one of the ledges around the roof.
Iduna winced, eyes squeezed shut to keep the tears from flowing and pushed herself up. The youma batted away cranberries with its wings, failing. Okay that magic was less lame than hers. Kind of effective actually.
She turned to Cadmus, tears welled up in her eyes and opened her mouth to yell at him for not reacting fast enough. How could he just let it tear into her and--- Iduna took a breath and looked at the youma instead. No, Iduna, he's just new and youma are scary monsters.
Even if he's a scaredy cat.
"One Bad Apple!" An apple materialized into her hand and she bit it, dropping a rotten apple on the youma's head. It landed with a squelsh, which only seemed to make it angry. Okay it was a little... stronger than most youma. Okay. Not to worry it was fine, it was fine, it was--
"Hit it again! Again! My magic only makes it angry!" And it was Iduna's turn to panic.

Cadmus was so struck he looked at his hands. He did that? He actually did that? Maybe he was made for this senshi thing after all! He nearly punched the air and gave a little woop when he realized, Oh crap, the youma was still there and the girl was, I don't know, really hurt?!
Cadmus did a double-take toward where the youma tumbled and where Iduna was. He wanted desperately to check on her, make sure his folly hadn't cost her an arm or a leg, but also, with great anger now, to rid the beast that harmed her in the first place. Thankfully, he foolishly did not follow his gut this time, and reacted on the other chibi's instructions. Rushing toward the edge of the roof, Cadmus's red eyes frantically searched out where the vulture youma was. It didn't take much effort when the avianesque creature looked up from its unstable perch, wings splayed in an intimidating display, and let out such a shrill shriek that Cadmus nearly tumbled from the rooftop.
He held himself stable and, suddenly figuring something, clapped his hands together again and thrust them out toward the monster. However, this time, Cadmus focused his attack right into the youma's mouth. It was silenced to chocking squawks as it took to the air again coughing up chunks of crushed cranberries. He took a breath before running after the creature.
T-that's twice now... he thought to himself. I got one more, so I... I have to make this last!
However, it looked as though the vulture youma was trying to flee. Cadmus wouldn't have that. It either was going to bite the dust one way or another.
"Hey, uh, I-Iduna!" he called over to the blue-haired chibi. He was reluctant to do so, considering he just let her get hurt, but he needed the youma's attention again. "Can you use your attack one more time? If... If it's okay, I mean!"

The younger girl watched as the cranberries smacked into the vulture youma again, to great success. She really was kind of jealous of that, but maybe her magic would get better someday. Or she'd have a better use than trying to not be vulture food.
Grey eyes snapped to Cadmus and she nodded sharply, summoning another apple. The rotten apple that followed collided with the youma's wing joint as it squaked and flared defensively. It darted it's head between both chibis, infuriated with choking on gross fruits and having them dropped on it's head.
Cadmus caught the vulture's attention as the bigger threat. Choking was hazardous to its health; rotten fruit wasn't.
"One more might do it Cadmus!" she said, creeping around the vulture as it stalked towards the pink haired boy to tackle it if necessary and start wailing on it with her feet.

"Right!"
Cadmus ran headlong straight toward the vulture, giving a rather embarrassing battle cry as he built up momentum. The vulture youma, as well, flapped its wings and glided swiftly toward the boy. Just as it looked as though the two would collide into each other, Cadmus readied his hands, and launched another wave of cranberries at the monster.
Suddenly, instead of running headlong into danger, Cadmus was covered in youma dust. He started sputtering and even sneeze twice; looking more like a grey ghost of the past than a future senshi. Letting out a breath, the pink-haired chibi marched towards Iduna to check on her, but ended up collapsing into a sitting crouch near the girl. The exasperated sigh he let out made his tiredness and frustrations come out at once.
"Ugh... I'm beat," he said, dusting some remnants of the youma off his shoulder. Even while looking like a walking statue with the film of grey over him, his smile was pearly white in the starlight. "I think all of my magic's used up for today. But hey, at least it's dead! Um, are you okay?" He tilted his head at the blue-haired girl. "I let you get hurt back there... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, I swear."

Iduna dusted off her skirts, sinking to the rooftop with a flop of skirts. She glanced over at him, dusting his hair and shoulders. She'd first thought him to be a brat (and still did, a middle school teasing sort of way) but he was kinda cool. And kind of cute. In a pink haired, magical boy sort of way. The chibi smiled at him.
"It's... not okay, but we're magical fighters of fruit and it happens?" she said, dusting more of him off. It wasn't right that she'd gotten hurt, but being hurt was going to happen. They fought monsters, after all. It was... silly to think people wouldn't get hurt. The vulture had come out of nowhere, after all.
"I'm okay. We seem to heal pretty fast, so... You did a really good job! My magic is not very... damaging... Sorry that I wasn't much help... and yelled at you..." Iduna winced slightly, looking down at his shoulder as she meticulously dusted youma off of him. To distract herself from the shame.

"Ah, you don't... have... to..." Cadmus began when Iduna started dusting the youma remnants from his uniform, but pursed his lips shut and glanced away shyly. Gently, he put a reassuring hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "It's okay. Really. You tried your best," he said with a smile. "If I had to take on that thing by myself, I would've wound up dead. You saved my skin and I had a right to get yelled at. My brain just stalled when everything happened... I can't let that happen again or I really will me monster chow."
Dropping his hand to his side, he looked passed Iduna and to the adjacent rooftop. "Do you, um, need help getting home or something?" he asked. "Or even not home just, I don't know, somewhere not here?" He glanced around wearily. "I don't sense any, but youma could still be prowling around these parts and I'd rather not fight another one."
Especially if it warranted the same results as this one.

She stilled at the idea of going 'home'. It was probably best to not go home right now, and staying here wasn't a great idea either.
"No but I... do have a park I tend to hang out in. I can show you if you'd like," she said, standing up and offering a hand to him. It was some blocks away, and she wasn't used to hanging out with other senshi but...
Maybe it was a good time to start?

Cadmus smiled. He liked the sound of that and, though he didn't admit it outright, he wasn't in the mood to go home just yet either.
"Sure, then. Let's go," he said, clasping a hand to hers and setting off whenever Iduna did.
