Life sucked.
It didn't take much for Caelum to draw that conclusion—from him having to move from his home to this weird city where he knew nobody, his parents arguing back and forth all hours of the day, and now, the river of red running down his knee from his fall from a failed grind on a handrail—the pink-haired boy just didn't know what to do. Splayed out on the concrete, but unable to move from his spot, the pain that throbbed from his leg and rump dissolved away as his thoughts took over.
His eyes watched the slow descent of clouds pass overhead through the knit together canopies above. Everything sucks, he thought. Mom and pep and being tight asses, kids are avoiding me at school, and now this. What else, universe? Huh? What else are you going to throw at me?
Caelum shut his eyes and let out a breath; the weight of his problems dispersing to the sky and somewhere beyond the clouds for the time being. Despite his pain, just laying there was the peace he had asked for, but it was short-lived when something suddenly growled. He didn't open his eyes at first, taking it for something like a passing dog, but when he heard the scratch of nails on bark and the rumble deepen, his eyes snapped open. There, above him, an odd creature crouched low to its haunches watched Caelum. The shadow of the trees kept it cloaked in darkness, but Caelum couldn't look away from its eyes—like small embers glowing in a distance, they flickered, and seemed to stare down deep into his core. He froze from fright, unable to move, with his once troubling thoughts halting at the sight of danger.
Suddenly, a few drips of saliva rained onto his cheek, breaking him of his chance. Flight or fight kicked in then and, without a second more, Caelum rolled to his feet, scooped up his overturned board, and ran.

Unoderi I'm really really really really really really really really really really really really sorry for the wait ;-;
Okay, helping people fight the good fight, and using his magical powers to do so, was pretty high up there... it was really hard to pick which one was better.
Hopefully no one asked.
Padding along as quickly as his very stumpy little legs would allow him to without breaking out into a full out, tummy shaking run. He always felt very silly, running, as he was not exactly built for it. Or jumping. Or anything particularly active, or that required grace and balance.
Walking on the ground, though, he had mastered. Pretty much.
He came up to the fallen future-senshi, tilting his head and feeling a sharp jolt of concern as he saw the blood. Something bad had happened to the senshi already! How bad could he fail as a cat to have his senshi injured BEFORE they were even awakened?! He yelped and forgot his embarrassment, running forward the rest of the way before he skidded to a sharp stop. Oh. A youma. Oh. The kid was running.
Oh god.
"WAIT WAIT!" Hadaya yelled, his little voice not carrying too far as he ran as fast as he could after the chase scene. He had no hope of catching up, hoping that one of them heard him. Maybe not the monster...

There are a lot of scary things to Caelum—ghosts, chainsaw murderers, that one time his mom lost it when he skateboarded in the house—but nothing compared to this thing chasing him. His chest heaved as he kept up his pace; the scrape of claws on the concrete from the youma inching closer and closer with each stride the thirteen year old made. Suddenly, Caelum heard a voice telling him to stop and he nearly did. Almost. Unfortunately, there was still a monster behind him.
"A-are you crazy?!" the boy cried out as his red eyes searched out the source of the voice as he kept up his hustle. "This thing won't stop, so why should I— Wah!"
Since his eyes were not concentrated in front of him, Caelum missed the slightly raised edge on the ground, and tumbled. He lost his grip on his skateboard and it went skidding ahead in front of him; the fall breaking one of its wheels. As he mentally cursed himself for his luck, he turned about to his front and noticed the youma gaining on him now that he was an static target.
"Oh crap, oh crap!" he cried. "I'm done for!"

Hadaya bounced up and down on his paws in frustration and concern, trying to figure out what to do. he shut his eyes tightly and called to the power he had been granted, creating for this new Senshi a pen to power up with. Unfortunately, he would have to get the magic tool to him before it would be useful.
And Hadaya was not exactly fast.
It was almost good luck when Caelum fell. Hadaya grabbed the pen into his mouth and took off running as fast as his incredibly stumpy legs would allow him to go. The youma was faster, but the guardian cat was determined and would not let this senshi die before he could even awaken! That was the complete opposite of what a GUARDIAN cat did!
He tripped and rolled, skidding to a stop near enough Caelum to toss him the pen.
"Use that! Yell Cadmus power, make up! Quick, quick!!!!" While yelling those direction, Hadaya ran literally face first into the youma's leg in an effort to distract it.

"H-huh?!"
The pen jumped between both of the boy's hands as he tried to get a grip on it. Giving Hadaya a double-take as he rammed into the youma, garnering its attention, Caelum pushed himself to standing and shouted, "C-Cadmus power, make up!"
Suddenly, Caelum felt his body be overcome with an alien sensation; a power that filled him with an unexplained strength. He didn't feel any pain in his knee anymore and, when the smatter of sparkles dissipated, Caelum was now steady upon his feet with renewed vigor.
It wasn't long before Caelum's mind dissolved into questioning. "W-what in the world?!" he tried. "What with this outfit? What on my head? T-tassels? Are these tassels?!" Apparently, this fashion faux pas was more important to address than the fact the youma now had its sights set on him again.

"You have power now!"
Hadaya did not have a lot of time to explain things, though he felt a rush of excitement and happiness to see the senshi power up for the first time. It was always fun to see, though he would have to consider the ethical issues of waking a chibi senshi some other time. At the moment, all he saw was someone who could not defend themselves from something scary.
He was back handed by the youma and sent flying like a fluffy, flailing projectile. Slamming into the ground, he skidded to a stop not too far away from Cadmus, but he was too dazed and aching to get up. He was hurting all over, and was confused about the orientation of the earth, kicking his little feet as he laid on his back, trying to find the floor.
Urgh. He had never been hit so hard before. Being a tubby, nonathletic kitty was not helping in this fight at all.

P-power? What does he mean power? Cadmus looked from his hands to the cat twice before lurching. "Y-you can talk? Were you the one I heard back there? Did you do this to me?!"
The chibi senshi winced when he saw poor Hadaya be flung like a ragdoll by the youma. Cadmus felt his stomach tighten when the youma's eyes locked onto his shivering form. He didn't know what to do—the talking cat said he had power, but what kind of power? What can he do? His mind was drawing a blank from being so scared that, when the youma came charging toward him, he acted on instinct alone.
"I, uh, B-bouncy Berry Blitz!" he shouted suddenly. Clapping his hands together and then thrusting his hands out, a medium wave of cranberries burst from them and bounced toward the monster. Overcome by the torrent, the youma was pushed back about the same distance Hadaya was. Cadmus could only look on in shock with only one thoughts, I did that?

Hadaya was not used to being hurt. He had never really been in a fight before where he got hit, and it was shocking. He pushed his little paws under him, wobbling, and looked around fearfully. It reminded him how little he was, and how easy he would be to eat.
He skittered, limping a bit, to Cadmus, pushing himself against the Senshi's legs, though that probably was not the most convenient thing for him to do when someone was fighting.
He just wanted to be protected and safe, and now he was very upset about being thrown, and his inner scaredy cat came rushing forward.
"Don't let it hurt me," he whined, ears down against his head, body coiled into a fluffy, mostly defenseless ball at Cadmus' ankle. "You can beat it, I know you can! It'll turn to dust, and be gone, and you can do it."

Cadmus felt his heart swell. He could search for answers later from the feline. "It's okay, little kitty," he said, grinning down to Hadaya. "I'll protect you. I'm gonna... I'll be the hero today!"
The desire to protect filled him with determination. As the youma, collecting its bearings, got to its feet again, he galloped towards the young senshi and the guardian with a fire in its eyes. Cadmus wasn't phased this time, though. Clapping hs hands together, he timed it just right, and rained down a plethora of cranberries onto the beast straight in its face. Torn apart by the avalanche of fruit, the youma dusted in a matter of seconds before dissipating into the sky above.
Cadmus breathed heavily at the launch of power from his little form before the repressed fear brought him to his knees. With a shiver, he took a breath, and looked over to Hadaya. "Hey, are you okay...?" he asked the cat when he reached a hand over and patted his head. "You're not seriously hurt, right?"

Hadaya watched as the Chibi Senshi used his new magic to effectively dispatch the youma. It was really impressive to watch, and he purred despite his fearful situation, keeping as close to Cadmus' legs as he could without physically tripping the young fighter up. Once Cadmus was a little closer to the ground, Hadaya immediately buried his face against him.
"I'm okay," he said sadly, though he was sure he would be bruised up under his fur and Navi would be angry with him for getting into a fight without her. Of course, that just meant many cuddles and kisses, so it would not be the worst thing, at the end of the day. Still, it sure did HURT.
He looked up at Cadmus after doing what he could to gather his nerve. There was not a lot of space for courage in the little cat, but he was doing his best to remind himself that he was called a Guardian for a reason.
"You did really well! For your first battle. You saved me! You're a great senshi already! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it and I owe you a lot now! I'll make sure to pay you back, I promise!!"

Cadmus cracked a smile at the cat. Lifting his chin high, he said, "Well, of course, that monster thing didn't stand a chance. I bested him because the hero always wins, heh!" To emphasize with more, he stuck a thumb into his chest and nodded his head twice.
Still, to thank the guardian cat, he stroked a hand over his ears. "You don't have to pay me back, it comes with the duty, I guess. Well, actually, you could do something for me..." The chibi stared down at his uniform again. "Can you... Can you explain what this is? I mean, what am I and why I just shot cranberries out of my hands?"

Hadaya mewed a laugh, nodding his head eagerly. He liked it when the heroes won, too, so it was good for him. He was glad the young man seemed to be excited about the way things turned out: it had all happened rather quickly.
At least now they had a second to catch up.
"I can explain," he said, nodding and taking a deep breath. He would do his best, though sometimes he got a little... confusing. "You're a senshi! Like you said, a hero! You protect the city. You had this power inside you and I felt it, and awakened it. That's my job, as a guardian cat. But now you can power up and defend the city from monsters like that, and other things from chaos, like the Negaverse! There are a lot of other senshi out there, and other good guys, too!"

Cadmus was a tad disheartened to learn there was more like him. Not just a senshi, as the kitty had called him, but apparently there were others. Being a hero seemed to have some competition, unfortunately. And the Negaverse? The very name made the pink-haired boy think of an evil syndicate from an anime. It was both bizarre and thrilling at the same time.
"Well, that explains a lot!" the chibi said with an exasperated sigh. "I mean, it totally cool that I'm this, what did you say? Senshi? Yea, senshi, but my powers are a bit..." He stopped right there. Beggars can't be choosers, right? "And you said you're a guardian cat? What's your name? I figure I should know that too since we've come this far."

He had said it before, after all, and awakened the chibi senshi, but it was good to make sure he had his facts right. He could be a bit on the... silly side, after all, so he tended to forget things. Or think he had them right when really he was way, often hilariously, off.
And he wanted to make as good an impression as he could now, after cowering in fear and being tossed like a useless doll earlier.
"I'm glad I was able to get you your pen, at least! It's important to keep that safe, because that's how you transform. And you need to keep that you have powers secret from everyone! Even your family! It's just like being a super hero."

"Hadaya it is!" Cadmus said. "And I think so? That's what you called me earlier. Sounds kinda cool for a superhero."
Cadmus nodded his head to what the guardian cat had to say, but he gave Hadaya a quizzical look afterward. "That's a very good point, but... How exactly, do I, uh, get out of this in the first place?" He gestured to his entire being. "If my mom saw me in this, she'd have a tiff. And not in the good variety; would want to take pictures and scrapbook and stuff." There were already mountains of photos of him in all matters of disarray and get-ups. Going home in something with tassels would cause his mom to squeal in delight.
