The relief was overwhelming, and for a moment Sarcel had to step back and wonder why. Sure, being reunited with Chinchillamom was cause for celebration, but this was the same creature that trounced all over her at the start of their relationship. True, their bond had been nothing but rocky and awkward and loathing in the beginning—Sarcel feeling more like a slave to Mother's whims than anything really—and yet here they were. Mother hated being touched, but she was surprisingly docile as she wriggled in Sarcel's hands, her plush fur feeling weightless against her fingertips.

Sarcel had only thought to bring her (or rather, Mother insisted) when she received that... bizarre letter. She wasn't sure who exactly wanted to keep trolls out of the nutrition block, but that confrontation between Schrad and Puchen gave her an inkling. At least, it seemed highly unlikely that there were two anonymous trolls sending out combustible letters, but in the same breathe it seemed absolutely bizarre that the queen would send such ridiculous orders to her too. Had everyone received one?

She was furrowing her brow now, transfixed in thought. Awassi's death still left a bitter taste in her mouth. It was true the Diva was hiding something—the sheer amount of incriminating evidence scattered around the hive was evidence enough—but it still felt wrong to convict them of Epratt's murder. Were they the culprit? Sarcel didn't want to say yes when she still felt herself wavering internally. Giving a longing look to the border of the ocean, she supposed they'd never really know for sure or not. Awassi's secrets were lost to the waves, and the only thing definitive they left behind was their flaming hive and the smell of gunpowder.

As it was, Sarcel decided it was a mystery worth mulling over later. At least, Elidae's voice was enough to snap her from her ruminating. What she had to say was almost astonishing.

Sarcel had never been thanked before.

It was a strange feeling, something that left her chest surprisingly warm. For the front she forced at the end of the Gala, she was decidedly weakened and battered down now, the weight of the night's events heavy on her heart. Elidae was kind, and caught between a moment of weakness... Sarcel allowed a tiny smile to blossom, tired and timid in a subtle contrast to Elidae's much more simple one. Ah, now she was laughing quietly. It was a soft sound.

"You're too kind Elidae... but I'll definitely keep that in mind, thank you." it was all she could think to say, because honestly it was true. Sarcel wasn't accustomed to praise (as badly as she craved it), and the show of gratitude left her remarkably speechless. Even with everything else on her mind (Lorata, Alifax, Awassi...) she allowed herself this moment of respite.

It was important to check on all her comrades, after all.

"It's important to have each other's backs..." she was talking more to herself, chinchillamom sniffling on her shoulder, chirping out little sounds. "I hope you realize that same offer extends to yourself, too."

"Ah, actually, how are you holding up?" she was sure the night was a whole hell of a lot for the yellowblood to take in, and the warm smile shifted on her face to something more concerned. "You aren't hurt or anything are you?"

Eostre and Tamiya had taken most of her attention up on the top floor, being shot and all, but... a lot had happened tonight. That in itself was an understatement.

While nodding in response to Sarcel, a genuine smile crept up on Elidae's features. The mere assurance of the mutual care for each other felt wonderful. When asked how she was directly, in truth, she did not know how to respond and blinked for a moment.

"Oh! No, I'm not hurt! I'm fine!" Elidae insisted with a reassuring smile, brushing a few strands of bang out of her face. Only mild fatigue and a few bruises here and there, but otherwise Elidae emerged physically unscathed. Emotionally, however, was a different story that would have to remain kept quiet. For now, at least. Letting out an exhausted sigh, Elidae started taking out a few pins from her disheveled hair, allowing the unevenly cut strands fall down from the bun. In a way, she still felt saddened the event had not gone the way she had hoped. The jubilant affair only lasted for a fraction of the night. She supposed there were some positives- for one, she confirmed Kursha was in fact alive and well (for the most part). Two, she became acquainted with wonderful trolls and reunited with friends. Three, she had a really nice dinner before the seadweller choked. But then the cons... well.

"Everything happened so fast." She blurted, eyebrows furrowing together. Before she knew it, her mouth began to move on its own. "So much happened- so many bad things happened, and for what? No one even really knows. Or really- no one seems to knows and isn't saying anything. And did you see how so many trolls were working tonight? We were all supposed to work together and it just seemed more like every troll for themselves. Ulterior motives. Some treated it like a game. And-and-and I know death is just a part of life and there's no point in feeling sad about it, but sometimes it just seems so unfair!"

Elidae huffed, finally taking in a huge breath of air. Running a hand through her bangs, the yellowblood girl looked away in embarrassment. "I'm so sorry." She said quietly, unsure why she even spoke in the first place, pouring out all her thoughts. Perhaps it was because Sarcel felt like a comfortable, yet disciplined presence. A kind highblood, who took things into her own hands. A leader; someone she could look up to. Also, great hair. Dropping her hand to her side, Elidae tiredly looked up at the burning hive. "There are just a lot of things I don't understand."
