Shesha lifted a hand to run his fingers through his wavy hair, a little smile appearing on his painted lips, "Hmmm, I really do love parties like this." He said to the woman whose arm he was on. They had come here together, to enjoy the party, to mingle with the other guests, and to otherwise show off all the new things that they'd gotten after their last shopping trip. The two of them were dressed in beautiful clothing, shiny jewelry, with their make up done in a fancy manner. Everything was done in a manner that would draw attention of those around them, something that the pair were quite good at.

Lady Alhana gave a smile, "Yes, I am a fan as well... though given that Lord Fiath is here as well I should likely meet with him, dance with him, show that we are still together." Though it was mostly a show put on for Lady Alhana's family. The two of them would never break up, they had uses for each other, therefore they kept it up for others to see. Giving a smile she released Shesha's arm, giving him a smile, "You have fun, I am going to go dance with idiot of a husband." Turning away from Shesha that woman walked over to where her husband was standing, mingling with some other nobles, to get her dance.

"I suppose that's understandable. Come on then, Amanita, let us mingle ourselves." Lifting a hand up he scratch the imp sitting on his shoulder under the chin before he sauntered forward, to see if there was anyone present that he knew. He liked a good party, liked integrating himself with the others, and wanted nothing more then to make many friends among the higher ups. The more friends he made the sooner he could count himself among them without needing someone like Lady Alhana holding his hand.

“I’d rather not go mother.” Karothdra said as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. They managed to wrangle her curls into a sleek hairdo after using hot stones to straighten her hair out. The whole process was painful and long, not something she would ever repeat if it was up to her.

“I don’t care.” Her mom gave a shrug and a small smile lit her face. That was the kind of attitude that her mother had taken up since Karothdra had been promoted. She didn’t care to ask Karo when she needed her for things; Karo simply had to help her. And lately, it included a lot of parties.

And so it was that the Oban was whisked into a dress and prettied up before being stuffed into a carriage and taken to the evening’s party. Karo never saw why she needed to go to such things, she certainly wasn’t looking for a husband and most of the time she felt rude when she was interrupting the older higher ranked men to gain favor with them. She felt dirty doing so, as if someone might think she were a mistress trying to cause a scene. The whole thing was aggravating really and she didn’t want to deal with it.

She didn’t even know whose party this was, her mother had entered with her and then promptly left her standing in the middle of the place. Karothdra glanced around, sighed and moved to find herself a drink. With one in hand, she found herself a wall and leaned against it to look at those around. Her eyes caught someone, a man who was lavishly dressed that was dropped by his female companion for another man. Curious, Karothdra pushed herself off the wall and made her way over to him.

“You wouldn’t happen to know whose party this is would you?” She whispered once she got closer to him by his side.

Shesha turned slowly to look over at the woman that had approached him, giving him a once over. She was familiar to him, a face he should know even though he hadn't met her himself, but he couldn't place her straight away. The mere fact alone that his mind said that she was one he had to talk to caused him to do just that. Giving her a smile he explained, "An older widow, Lady Serafima, is throwing a party of her oldest grandson and heir, trying to get him married I'd wager. It's why so many families with daughters of age were invited, looking for a match that will strengthen the families, and assure that her line continues forward after she dies."

He motioned to the young man that was standing across the room from them, leaning against the wall, seemingly reading while a man, likely a soldier, stood alongide him as though to keep him company, "The problem being that her son is the young man only has two loves in his life. One of them is his collection of books that is only rarely away from and the other would be the wall of muscle standing next to him. His grandmother is either oblvious, though one might guess she's just being selectively oblvious." Easier to just thing the young man shy and reclusive instead of acknowledging that he wasn't interested in women. Though when did that stop some people from getting married? There were a few couples that he knew of that married for cover, to hide what they were really into.

Turning to look over at the young lady next to him he held out a hand, "My name is Shesha, by the way, if I might so bold as to ask you for yours?"

“Tsk,” Karothdra crossed her arms. “That explains my presence here.” Was she surprised her mother was trying to match her? No, not at all. It was an old habit her mother had that Karothdra had learned to ignore. She let her mother do as she pleased at this point, soon, soon she wouldn’t be worthy of a husband if she could help it. The simply lie of saying the army was her everything would suffice and silence any who thought her a prize to take home. Perhaps one day she would chose a husband, but it would be on her terms and that man would be worthy of her. Never the other way around.

“Selectively oblivious more like it.” A common thing really among nobles, love marriages were scarce and far between. If she could she would marry for love, if not… Then she would find someone who was strong to produce the best hires.

When the hand was extended to her, Karothdra took it and shook it offering him a small smile. “Karothdra, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” She liked how this one thought; there were no hidden motives and no holding back of the tongue. He spoke it like he saw it and that, in her books, made him someone she liked. “I wish these things were more fun. I’d rather be training than here.”

Shesha lifted a hand up to smother a laugh, "Is that so? Well, if you ever wanted a husband that would be yours in name only and wouldn't often be underfoot I would say that you can't really go wrong with Yacen. He's not a bad guy from the few words I've shared with him... though his friend chased me off pretty quickly." Shesha would put his money on the fact that a female would have a better chance talking with the boy because she wouldn't be seen as any sort of competion. Not that Shesha was interested in the young man for such a thing, instead just finding him to be interesting to observe.

Nodding his head, "Most likely. It's easier for her to see their relationship as close friends because he's all she has as far as an heir and chance for grandchildren goes. She might be better off helping him to adopt those when the time comes though." It always interested him, how far people would go when it came to seeing their family lines carried on by family members, even if they weren't the best ones to take up the mantle. She'd be better off finding someone else to take over then Yacen but she wouldn't, because the boy was her blood even with all of his flaws.

"Karothdra? I see, it's wonderful to meet you." Alright, now he knew why she was on that he felt he should know. From what he recalled she was the daughter of a rather important member of Oba's army. Wonderful, definitely the sort that he enjoyed meeting at events such as this since he was here for that purpose alone, not as though he'd be the one marrying the Yacen after all... though wouldn't that be convienient for him if he could? He'd be more then happy to take over the boy's spot and leave him to his books and his muscle man. Since he knew that it would never happen though he'd give the idea no more thought then he already had. Giving a smile he said, "They can be quite entertaining in their own manner. I highly doubt any duels will be breaking out tonight, but one can find fun just observing those who are here if you know them."

"Training? What sort of training do you do, Karothdra?" He found himself asking, quite curious. She seemed to be quite strong at first glance, baring musculature that spoke of her doing more then just flitting around in a manner that a noble lady might.

“I’ve got better things to do with my time than find a husband, trust me.” Karothdra didn’t even want to entertain the idea. A husband would only get in her way, unless she found one that could advance her career that is. Use him just like he’d use her because of her father. It wouldn’t be such a bad trade off, but Karo still wasn’t too warm to the idea. A husband also meant she’d be having children in a near future and she simply wasn’t up to that task just yet. Too much to do still before she could have them.

“I’m sure she’ll get her own blood from somewhere if he won’t give it to her.” Perhaps a niece would find herself showered in gifts before whisked into a relationship and then pregnant. “Nobles tend to go to extremes when they want something.” Karothdra wouldn’t be above doing the same either, if her brother didn’t get out of her way… She was going to have to deal with him sooner rather than later at this point. She hadn’t quite figured out that part yet, it wasn’t exactly legal to simply go ahead and kill your sibling. That would take time.

“Right now I am a guard but I am training as a mastiff. Gauntlets are my weapon of choice,” she gave him a smile. “What about you? What kind of work do you do?” A spy? Assassin? Or maybe something else altogether. It was always hard to tell when meeting others at such occasions. People didn’t exactly show up with their swords hanging from their belts. However, she found it particularly harder when faced with those who didn’t show as much muscle. It was easy to differentiate those who used weapons from those who didn’t, but smaller folk like Shesha? She had no idea.

"Hmmm, is that so?" He found it almost funny that she said that she had better things to do and yet she'd dragged here nevertheless. He found himself scanning the crowd for a moment before he said, "I wonder how many other daughters in the room are feeling the same thing as you?" How many of them didn't want to be here, didn't want to find themselves a husband at the behest of their parents, where as Shesha was only too happy to be here mingling. A shame he didn't have the ability to snag himself a rich husband like the uninterested daughters could. Not that he wanted to be forever indebted to a single person like that, instead ever scheming on how he was going to become something without that large of a commitment.

Giving a smile he nodded, "Oh, I am sure that she will get her way in the end. It will be interesting to see how it comes about though as well as what becomes of Yacen." And what would become of his relationship with the wall of muscle? Not that he had any sort of interest in love affairs, finding the feeling to be an annoying one because of everything that people blame it for. Love was the cause and solution for everything, or so various people would have everyone believe. Shesha's amusement seemed to grow at the comment about nobles going to extremes to get what they wanted, "That's putting it lightly, but it always makes things more interesting."

"A massif? Interesting." Shesha mused, "I must admit I'm impressed, that someone with your looks would risk them by training in hand to hand, close combat when you could take an easier path." She could just opt to marry Yacen and live an easy life, instead she was doing the opposite, and it was greatly interesting to Shesha. As the young woman asked Shesha about himself he gave a smile, "What do I do? Well, I spend a lot of my time doing exactly what I am doing now, learning all that I can about those around me. I am a rather big fan of secrets especially." He glanced across the room to where some people were dancing focusing on one in particular, before he said, "As for the rest of the time I do my best to entertain Lady Alhana and keep her happy."

“I’m sure there are quite a few who are more than happy to be here. They all want that sappy love story with their prince or knight in shining armor. Ha!” Karothdra scoffed at the thought. Simple and weak minded woman who thought their lives revolved around a man. If they had bigger back bones they would be confident and strong and would look like actual appealing wives. If Karothdra was a man, she’d want her wife to be strong and capable, not simple minded and only looking to please her family but having as many children as she can pop out of her womb.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if she banished him to the countryside and killed his lover as punishment.” That was if the woman was truly cruel and if Yacen pushed her to that point. If he was smart, and Karo debated that, he wouldn’t anger the woman more than he had to. “If he gets on her good side maybe he’ll even get to keep his lover around and never have to deal with his family,” Karo chuckled. “It does indeed.”

“Trust me when I say that my skills would make it so that there aren’t many who get close enough.” Well she still had scars from the war, she had been powerless against spears and they were her weakest point. Well and probably a bow, but who was deadly against an opponent with a bow? No one. “Ah, so you are a master of secrets then, interesting line of work.” And certainly one what peaked Karothdra’s curiosity, she could always use more spies. “Do you work for anyone else?” She was more than willing to pay for good secrets. “Why lady Alhana in particular?”

Shesha gave a bit of a laugh, unable to help it, though it was one hidden behind his hand, "Yes, well, not everyone is as willing to put in the work to become something on their own. There are those too soft for work and feel that marrying their 'knight in shining armor' will get them ahead in life." How lucky women were to have such an option. Not that Shesha had any desire to get married, having seen only poor unions thus far since becoming a part of the 'upper crust' of Oba's social world. Not as though the marriage between his parents had been anything worthy of emulating either he thought to himself before glancing over at Yacen, giving a humming sound.

"Hmmm, that's an interesting angle. I wonder if the boy has thought of that. I wonder if the grandmother has." If she learned about her boy's man then it was a possibility, "I suppose it's possible that she might do that, or use him like a piece on a chess board. Get married and I suppose that you can keep him. Ah! I do love the way your mind works, Lady Karothdra." She really was the devious sort, wasn't she? Thinking so hard on such dangerous games, it made chatting with her rather enjoyable for certain. Even more so when she spoke of her skills keeping being so good that she could keep dangerous people at bay.

A smile appearing on his painted lips Shesha said, "Master of Secrets? I do like the sound of that title." He murmured, giving a nod, deciding he'd keep that one for himself, "Work for anyone else? I mostly work for myself at the moment, though I am more then willing to share some of the secrets I have gathered for other ones. Nothing is more interesting then juiciest of gossip concerning those I have my eyes on after all." He might not work for others but he was only too happy to trade with others if it meant getting dirt on those in his way. Which had him wondering about Karothdra, did she want access to his secrets? It was possible he supposed, which interested him greatly what one of her status had to offer to him.

"Hmmm, why Lady Alhana? It's actually pretty simple. She and Lord Fiath are together due to an alliance between their families, they will never leave each other due to the mess it would make. He has his women, plenty of them, and to get back at him Lady Alhana has me. She spoils me, brings me to grand parties like this one, makes sure that I am always at her side. It allows me many open doors." Which made it more then worth being her kept man for the time being.

“They’re Obans, they ought to be stronger.” Karothdra couldn’t help but agree with Shesha, the Obans had become soft in that manner. The daughters of wealthy nobles shouldn’t be squandered and traded around (or even paraded around for that matter), only to be given off as gifts. Hopefully the men wouldn’t start to get soft either. As long as Yacen did his duty for Oba she saw no problem with whom he slept around with, if his lover got in the way of things however… Well that was simply sad in her eyes. She would never let her husband or others placate her.

“Why thank you,” Karothdra answered with a chuckle. “The games I play in court are much more dangerous than these mundane ones, but I must say these ones can keep you entertained for hours.” Indeed, upspring her father and making sure her brother did not take his place was like walking for a hammer to fall. On whose head it fell was not for certain yet, but when it did fall Karothdra needed to make sure it was not on her own neck. “I think you’d enjoy the types of games played in court, many there are ruthless.”

“Hmm,” Karothdra wanted dirt on her brother, things she didn’t know yet. Then there was also her father or any other court official who got in her way. “I’ll most definitely keep that in mind.” Maybe he even had secrets on her! Granted she knew she didn’t have that many, minus of course trying to upspur her father. That plan had only been shared with one single person, if word got out she knew exactly who had spilled that secret and she would make sure to take him down with her.

“That is an interesting arrangement,” but it was also a common one. Karothdra would never allow her husband to bed other woman, and if he did then she would simply have to show him why he shouldn’t be sleeping with them by killing off a few. “Well, it certainly doesn’t do well for him if she’s going to parties with another man, but revenge is bitter sweet.” Karothdra fixed her eyes on Yacen and the bulk next to him. “Shesha, do you want to play a game?” She gave him a smirk, her competitive streak lighting up. “Do you want to see if we can seduce Yacen and his man meat away from each other?”

Shesha's eyes seemed to sparkle for a moment, looking quite delighted over her words. Obans ought to be stronger, eh? Was she one of those? The sort that thought the Obans were top dogs despite what he heard was a poor showing some time ago during the war against the north? A curious thought indeed but given he was having such a fun time chatting with her he wasn't about to insult her beliefs. Instead he merely gave a smile and said, "It's tough for some, not everyone is born with a fighting spirit. Nor is everyone willing to claw their way to the top. Some are just content to take the easy way out, the easy route currently being marriage." If Shesha had been born a woman would he have been willing to enter into marriage to get ahead in life? Possibly, though only if he had a contingency place to get out of it, an assassin, perhaps?

"Mmm, I heard that the games there are a lot more exciting. Not quite to the point of being able to participate, but one day, perhaps?" He gave a smile, looking as though he were quite looking forward to the dangerous games. It was a step up from where he was presently but it was a big and very significant step. The difference between those he was presently a part of and the nobility was vast, but he'd find his way in. Even if he had to be as Karothdra said, ruthless. He'd been willing to do what was needed until now to get ahead, what was a few more cut throat moves?

Such things were forgotten though as the girl before him commented on his arrangement being an 'interesting on' which had Shesha smiling, "It is indeed." Interesting with a lot of perks, so worth it even if Lord Fiath likely wanted to see him 'dealt with', the hypocrit.

"A game, Lady Karothdra?" He murmured, his eyes alight as she proposed what it was that she wanted to do. To break Yacen and his 'friend' away from each other? He rested a hand on one hip, lifting the other to tap his fingers against his lips, "Seduce them away from each other? For how long do you propose?" He was quite curious what she was aiming for, finding the one proposed 'game' to be far more interesting then anything else that had happened tonight. Ah but he liked Lady Karothdra, she was far too much fun, and far too good for a gathering like this one Shesha thought to himself.

“I’ll stop clawing once I’m old and can’t get out of bed.” She gave a nod of her head with finality. One day she’d marry, but that wasn’t the case right now. Her eyes moved to the other girls who were all giggling in their corner giving Yacen secretive glances as if one of them could catch his gaze. If only they knew what she knew, maybe she ought to tell them? No, they would all just pout at her and tell her she was jealous and trying to have him all to herself. Karothdra rolled her eyes at the thought.

“I suggest you try for a lower position in court, something that allows you freedom to move. I’m sure your lady could arrange something. Or maybe even blackmail an advisor into taking you under his wing if you ever got bored with your lady.” She shrugged. Karothdra had pushed her way into the ranks of the military herself and she didn’t regret it. It was easily done when someone knew what they were doing. She was sure he’d get there eventually which was why she wouldn’t mind having him on her side when the time was right.

“How about we see if we can even get them to get far enough that they can’t see each other? Just in the other room?” The guy was obviously his guard, but could he be swayed away if he thought Yacen was in good hands? Karothdra wasn’t just nay noble and surely even he would recognize who her father was. “What do you say?” She turned to Shesha. She wanted to make this happen, and then perhaps she would confront him about his choice in bed partners. Perhaps even push him into the group of giggling girls and see what happened.

"I am with you on that one, Lady Karothdra." A woman after his own heart... well, if he believed in any of that foolish, romantic drivel that people always chattered on about that was. Such emotions were a waste of time that clouded one's mind to what was right there in front of them. Better to see Lady Karothdra for what she was, an interesting woman with a sharp mind he enjoyed instead of thinking that it was something else, like 'love' or the like. No, this was something else entirely, like meeting a kindred with drive similar to his own. It was that, not more and nothing less he told himself.

Giving a slow nod Shesha said, "A nice, 'cushy' position in court would be nice." He murmured, eager for such a thing, "I might actually miss Lady Alhana a bit when we part ways, I have enjoyed by time with her, but she's keenly aware that I won't be around forever." She would likely just pick up a new little boy toy to use against her husband. It would still be a positon he'd be sad to leave behind though. If only because she'd treated him well until this point. He might consider helping her to find someone new were he to run across any one he felt was interesting enough for her. It had to be someone that could annoy Lord Fiath after all.

"Hmm, a full room away from one another? Whatever might they do!" He said, lifting a hand to cover a laugh. The way the two were standing so close might make one thing that they were stuck at the hip. Getting them apart though, it would be interesting to see them parted. Giving a smile Shesha said, "Let us see if we can use our considerable power to part the two supposedly unpartable 'friends' then." Even if it were only for a short time it would still count as a victory in his books.

“Let the games begin.” With a wicked smile, Karothdra stepped forward first through the crowd. She hadn’t decided on her intended target yet. Yacen or the body mass next to him? She zero’d in on the body guard instead. There would be no why he would allow himself to be distracted by another male if Shesha approached him. No, Karothdra would use her name to lure him in and then let Shesha work his magic on his own. She gave a quick glance towards the girls who were now fully focused on her as she approached the duo; she gave him a toothy grin.

The man next to Yacen saw her coming, stood up to straighten himself and looked about ready to tell to get lost until she narrowed her eyes at him.

“No need to be all up in arms,” Karothdra purred. “I’m not here for Yacen, what’s your name?” She glanced at Yacen none the less and gave him a curt bob of her head.

“Jabon and I’m not interested so move away.”

“Not interested? Do you even know who I am?” Karothdra frowned this time turning her attention to Yacen. “Do you know who I am?” She quirked her brow at him.

“Karothdra, daughter to the general.” He saluted her and gave Jabon a look.

“At least one of you recognized me.”

“My apologize.”

“This is my friend Shesha.” She said when the other Oban had caught up to her. It would be the only introduction she would give him before letting him work his magic. Karothdra moved to the side a bit so that Jabon wouldn’t have Yacen in his vision anymore. If Shesha got him away Jabon would not know of it.

Shesha came to stand next to Lady Karothdra, watching her closely as she spoke with Jabon and then Yacen, finding himself thinking that even if their game fell through that he didn't even care. Just watching her go about intimidating the pair was well worth the price of admission so to speak. She really was an interesting woman, wasn't she? Able to get even the wall of muscle known as Jabon to apolgize to her, it was quite impressive. Were it not for the fact that he didn't want to make the pair leave in a huff he'd of said as much. Instead he took her lead, turning his attention to Yacen as she introduced him as her 'friend', which was an introduction more then anything else at the party given who'd said it.

"It really is nice to meet you, Lord Yacen, I must say that it's a touch difficult to approach you with as devoted as your friend here is." He said, giving a glance in Jabon's direction, amused by the way in which Karothdra had situation herself between the pair, effectively cutting them off from one another. An interesting and amusing tactic that he'd have to remember the next time he wanted to get between someone. It would work on so many levels he thought to himself in a delighted manner before he held a hand out to Yacen, "Do grace me with a dance, Lord Yacen, and sate my curiosity about the rumors? I am told that despite how it might appear that you're actually quite graceful."

The man had the look of a scholar but Shesha would bet anything that his grandmother had seen to it that he learned important skills like dancing among the other things the higher ups saw as being essential. Yacen seemed to be looking to Jabon for help to get out of the dance but with Karothdra in between them no help was coming, forcing him to accept the invitation so as not to appear rude to Lady Karothdra's 'friend'. Grinning like a perzi who'd eaten someone's prized bird Shesha lead Yacen off for a dance, giving Karothdra a wink as he went.
