It was the eight day of December and whilst it wasn't Christmas yet and wouldn't be so for a couple of weeks give or take, it was starting to feel super christmassy and not just about town, although it was definitely christmassy around town with all the christmas decorations and lights.

His Mum and Dad had put up the Christmas tree last weekend and some of the decorations and Briar had helped too. Okay so it had been mostly with hanging the tree decorations such as the Mr robin baubles and the lantern baubles and the sparkle baubles and he had put all the tinsel on too.

In fact the only thing that was missing was the lights and the golden tinsel star that went on the top of the tree, but those weren't going to go up just yet anyway because for as long as he could remember those always went up on the day before Christmas Eve.

His Dad hung up the christmas stockings above the fireplace about then too and there was one for each of them with his being red and having his name embroidered along the top.

Back when he was a kid Briar used to think that Santa came along in the night and filled up the stockings, although now that he was older he knew better.

Because there was no such thing as Santa. Santa was just a kiddie thing and the stockings were a Dad and Mum thing with the the two of them taking turns to fill them with bits and pieces - usually treats,

But despite Santa not being real, that wasn't to say that magic wasn't real - although rather than it coming in the form of overly jolly men dressed in red and white, it came in the form of talking cats with magical lasers and creepy monsters that did the dust thing with enough whacking.

Okay it also came with people like Scary Lady and the people with the creepy holes that he'd seen at the party with the stupid masks that he had been dragged to last year and it also came with space - at least he was pretty sure that the glowy lady that he had met on the night with all the fluffy puff thingies had mentioned something about being able to use the phone that Horatio had given him to be able to go to space, however Briar hadn't had a chance to try it despite it definitely being a thing on his to do list.

Although talking about things on his to do list...

Reaching for his advent calendar, Briar popped open the the day marked 8 and ripped the silvery foil to reveal the chocolate for the day - a snowman.

Counting the days down to Christmas was kind of fun - especially when chocolate was involved - and Briar could do it all the way down to the 24th as his Dad had gotten him a chocolate advent calendar that went all the way down to Christmas Eve, although there were times when Briar just wanted to open all the doors up and eat all the chocolate.

Popping the day's chocolate in his mouth he let the chocolate slowly melt.

Maybe he'd stop by the library later on or wander the park for a bit, because whilst it was too cold for tree climbing the park was still kind of fun and with it being cold that meant that there wouldn't be too many other people about.

Then again if he went to the park then maybe he could do superhero stuff for a bit - after all it had kind of been a bit since he had gone checking for monsters as Oort.

He considered it and then decided that it was a definite thing, although perhaps a later thing as it wasn't really as if he could sneak out right now.

Later he promised himself as he crunched the last small bit of chocolate and put the advent calendar away for the day.

Later he would go do superhero things.
